Audi Q5 8R.I TDI (2009-2012)
Excellent
We have the 2011 3.0TDI V6 Diesel, it has been amazing with nil issues, has high kms now 240,000kms now and it’s absolutely faultless, such a nice car to drive and comfortable, if you are looking to buy a Q5 the 3.0TDI is the way to go. Also holds its value well. Compared to the TFSI petrol models.
Purchased in January 2021 at Audi Dealers.

Bad Bad Vehicle- Mechatronic issues from Day 1
First three years and was always worried when I tried reversing- sometimes it would shoot forward. Not a good idea when parallel parking.
Audi won’t fix under warranty cause I missed one transmission oil change a few Years after first reporting the issue. If I could turn back time, I would never buy this vehicle.
Very expensive to repair and service - not sure if this is just the case in Perth, but either way - a sour taste in my mouth.

Good amount of grunt and luxury but not without some issues
Driving is great, I've got the 3.0TDi version. It's got more than enough grunt to make smooth transitions onto the highway. The interior is great...comfortable seats, good A/C, decent audio...but then there are some drawbacks. I think the transmission is on its way out, the EGR has been replaced and still has troubles, and some other filter is pretty bad. I have spent a few k's on fixing this issues while my Honda has had 0 issues since I purchased it. This is my third Audi and I must say...I'm not as impressed with it as my first two.

Expensive junk
This car has only done 140000 klm uses oil, the transmission just packed up at a cost of $9500 to fix, this problem was recalled in USA and China, but not in Australia.Just got car back and the drive belt broke, replaced it now car won't run engine management system light flashing, need to get car towed to be repaired, we now hate this car and will be selling it when it's fixed. Will never buy another Audi again, we have learned a very expensive lesson to buy a car with less features, things to go wrong.

Q5 TDI QUATTRO is an excellent car
I am not sure where does this negative rage about the car come from, as for me it runs perfectly, no issues what so ever. Runs well, safe, fast, comfortable and fuel efficient. I guess some people have to learn how to drive and handle a European car.

Quality finish on the car. Good car for cruising on country roads - BUT !
The 3.0 TDI is not a good city car. Turbo lag is annoying and can be dangerous at roundabouts when you want to get off the mark quickly. The transmission is jerky and it hold the gears too long for my liking before changing to a higher gear.
Seats are hard and flat and not comfortable on long trips.
The real annoyance for me is the rip-off for parts and servicing. As soon as I bought it I went to spare parts department and wanted a rubber cargo mat. They quoted me over...Read more

Absolutely rubbish Audi Q5 Tdi 2011
This year I have changed Mercedes-Benz ML 320 and bought Audi Q5 Tdi 2.0L I am very unhappy about my car because it takes after 300-400km one-litre oil.I am sick of it
My recommendation to all people do not buy never ever any Audi.This type of car is 200% rubbish!!!!!!!

Transmission problem with Audi Q5 3.0 TDI
The car is 5 year old 51,000 and it has been a fantastic car, but a shuddering in accelerating in low gear and decelerating has been diagnosed as a transmission problem caused by a seal going in the differential causing the oil to spill into the gear box . The cost for the Audi dealer to repair quoted $26,000 yes thats right $26,000, What a bloody rip-off.The car has been serviced properly and looked after and Audi Australia are thinking about helping me. What are the chances.

Q5 shudders changing down 2 to 1st
Great car to drive but I have had the same problem with the car changing down from 2 nd to 1 st. Shudder and sometimes a stall. Have talked to audi service centre at Brighton . They say it is unusual (ummm) and quoted me $7000 to fix ( I don't think so )

Good but expensive to service
Purchased new in 2011 the 2.0 TDI has been a pretty good vehicle and never let us down. The first three years of services were "free" but then I feel Audi attempt to recoup it all! So at the 60k service they attempt to scare us into fitting a new timing belt and water pump which drives off this same belt (actually due at 90k...) and the usual "front brake rotors need replacing". eplacing so do not be conned into having this service until it is necessary. My suggestion is to own these cars for 4 years +/or get them serviced outside Audi after the warranty expires. There are plenty of reputable mechanics who can reset Audi car computers and use only Audi parts and charge around 50% of the Audi rates. Otherwise the cars are prohibitively expensive to service. Exactly the same problem with jerking and stalling
I have the same problem with a 2010 TD 2.0 that has done 220ks. Audi do not want to talk to me as the servicing has been done by others as well as Audi. As i pull up the car jerks forward, i can control it by slipping the car into manual just before stopping, this seems to confuse the gear box and the car does not jerk forward. The last time i spoke to Audi they told me that at 220ks the car is at the end of its life, really??? i have a 1996 Pajero that has done 550ks and it is still going, there comment, "yes but its a Pajero, not an Audi" arr...Read more
ogant people. Now the car comes up with a gear box malfunction when the car starts going up hills, i can again fool the gear box by going back into manual or stopping the car and restarting it. I told Audi with their service costs of between $1200 and $1500 per service and the amount of ks i do i would spend 1/2 the car on servicing and thats why i need to get accredited european service dealer (not an Audi one as they only do their own service).... Interesting they told me that if the car was serviced all the time at Audi then they probably would have fixed it for me FOC. Basically i would not buy an Audi again, trade in value of the Q5 now $8k, your kidding i can get that much for my Pajero, so it looks like i keep the Audi until it dies and then start putting bullet holes in it with my 22, just for the fun of it. Love it!
I purchased my Q5 2.0 TDI when it first released in Australia 2009. I used to drive Pajero, so Q5 is kind of small for me. Beautiful driving experience, good handling and good soundproof (you wouldn't hear diesel engine noise in the car at all) Only disappointment I found is diesel engine seems has acceleration delay, you won't get respond after 2-3 second. No major problem for me, Audi Gold Coast is an excellent dealership, they take care of any issue and concern immediately. Fuel consumption for my car is around 9.9L/100Km, I only drive around locally to pick kids up from school and do grocery shopping :)
Interior comfort, reliable, compact.

How can it have such poor driving dynamics?
My wife bought her Q5 2.0 TD 2 years ago. Actually it is her second. The first was written of after an errant car ploughed into it after 1 month of ownership. My wife loves this car. I hate it with a passion.
The engine is a gem but the fly by wire / ECM decides how much & how fast throttle you can get.
Want to slip into that stream of traffic? Not in this car. The delay is palpable and when the car decides to move its winds up like a turbine. How this is was ever considered conducive to safe motoring is beyond me.

cars including other Audi's in my job & this is the worst thing to drive since their Q7 stop-start diesel. The Q5 is underpinned with excellently designed forged aluminium suspension. Considering that it rides on 17 inch alloys with generous 65 series rubber, it beats the hell out of me why the ride is so harsh & choppy. Spring & dampener rates much too high for an SUV, at least for Australia's roads. Dual clutch auto relies heavily on complex electronics to function smoothly. Shifts slow and unresponsive.I have driven the 3.0 TD and is much better. Don't get me wrong, I would love to like this car. The quality of the fit & finish of both the interior & exterior is amazing. The paintwork is flawless.3 comments

Dangerous Audi Q5
I have a 2009 Q5 3.0TDI, i have had a problem now for almost 6 months and getting nowhere with Audi fixing it. Unfortunately the problem is intermittent, and hard to find. When the car pulls to a stop i get a large jolt as though i have been hit from behind, then on occasions it stalls the motor. I had a very close call last Friday when the traffic lights changed to green just as i stopped, the car stalled and the big semi trailer coming up behind me had to lock up to avoid hitting me.

nything, i have contacted Audi Aust but all they did was ring the dealer, not once has the dealer or Audi Aust contacted me back to discuss the problem, i have had to do all the running, i get the usual line that i am the only person in the world that has a problem with the jolt and then the stalling, even though an Audi serviceman said he knew all about it and told me "feels like you have been hit from behind". I have read many forums where Audi drivers have described the same symptoms but not the stalling, either Audi are not telling the truth or they are living under a rock. My concern is that next time i might not be so lucky, I can imagine the lawyers having a field day with Audi as they have not been honest in trying to sort it out.3 comments
VWs and Audi do have grabbing brakes normally. Seems they cant be adjusted much! But yours sound a worry. A letter from a lawyer usually gets things moving! To both Audi and HQ. throw everything at em!

erent driving conditions/ roads in ESP Europe and USA. May be Worse if first drive off road ! Fords Mazdas holdens &Toyotas are usually more involving Family cars (to drive ) in Oz. Can't stand the knuckle scraper when reaching into the centre bin! For phones/ devices - cant be removed!? Electronic handbrake...... V.v expensive former icing and optional extras esp. reverse camera (Should be standard anyway)
