Hi Cazz
Falcon, I think is the Brand that looks similar at a premium price.
Good luck with your hunt for an oven.

There is a brand called falcon, it doesn't go on sale and the cheapest started at $6000.

Not sure why u don't want to buy it but I love my oven, I got it in the black and it is so easy to clean so much better than stainless steel

I would love to get it but the negative comments were a huge put off. Particularly the fact that the steam one gives off burns/scorches itself and the labels on the nobs wear off in under two years.

Hi I am about to purchase the Belling BR900DF from Harvey Norman at the suggested RRP of $4,000 as I love the look and expected functionality as with all major appliances I am purchasing for my kitchen I will expect a minimum of 10 years usage (all current appliances have achieved 10 years with no major faults other than normal wear and Tear most have been Whirlpool, Westinghouse and Fisher and Payckel)
I am concerned at the amount of negative reviews I have read so far and common themes seem to point towards the control knobs, large oven door not shutting properly, excessive heat from the sides (which is not normal!) and rusting! Given these comments what sort of warranty and after sales service can you Guarrentee for my purchase ? I appreciate that things can and do go wrong but if these are fixed in a timely and positive way then as a purchaser I would have confidence. Are you as company happy to provide that sort of after sales care as this will influence my decision 100%

considering buying A Belling Richmond but now concerned by negative reviews, my current stove is 10 years old with no problems, worried by 2 year only warranty, surely a oven of this cost should perform longer

Please don't waist your money, the oven in the Shop looks great but the one you get delivered won't look like that one, bent scratched doors are very common, wet floors are another common problem with this brand due to condensation build up on the inside of the oven that leaks and pools on the floor below the oven door. Customer Service is handled for Belling by a company by the name of Grandimlex, to be honest, I don't understand how this company is still in business, Belling are either oblivious or very stupid for allowing this company to handle there repairs, they never get back to you, they are extremely rude and will blame you for as much as they can.
How do I know all this you may ask ? Please let me tell you, I have been an Oven repair man for over Fourty Five years now, and believe me, dealing with any Harvey Norman store and Grandimplex combination is a recipe for disaster . Belling as an oven manufacturer, great design ideas, the worst workmanship on things like doors and electrics and as hard as it is to believe, even worse with repair and warrantee issues. Stay away.

I am very concerned now after reading the reviews. I was about to purchase this oven today. Very glad I had a look at reviews.

Can you tell me the amount sold and the amount that have had problems?

Hi Carolyn
I'm only a client who has bought one. I have no idea of how many sold and the percentage of faults. I was smitten with it in the first few months, but soon after 12 - 18 months the problems started. The other thing to look at is that it is hard to clean on top. Some stove tops are also that deep, but smooth. This one has a "seam/joint" which makes a crevice for food and grease to stick. Mine has also started to rust in around the temp gauge and in other spots. These are facts and not my opinion. Good luck with your purchase!

we have our sterling installed for a month...so far so good.
1. I agree the manual is terribly confusing. Just winging it with cooking at the moment.
2. Is steam meant to escape the 'main oven', it feels like the door isn't shutting properly at the bottom. When I put my foot on it to close it there is no steam escaping (worrisome when you have toddlers). Anyone else experience this?
Thanks

If the door is easily "twisted", there needs to be a magnetic catch at top and bottom. Call the manufacturers representative.

How do I get rust protection as you exclude this from your policy and I think this may indicate it is rust prone?

1 answer
Belling
Candice C.Belling

Thank you for your query.
Rust is excluded from our warranty (and most other general insurance/ warranty policies) as it can be caused by variables other than manufacturing practices. Environment and maintenance also play a key role.
You may wish to discuss this further with your home/ contents insurer to see whether this option can be added to your policy as it is not currently available through our office.
Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Folks I was planning to buy the 900 Belling Richmond, however, the reading poor reviews Has made me feel rather hesitant especially the lack of customer service statements. As I have just gone through a similar experience with another make I am not likely to purchase one without better warranties than currently offered. If you believe that your product is superior, what alternatives can you offer? I was looking at the 900DF

After spending 6500 on a new oven, I'm totally stunned at how shocking the oven is and customer service is non-existent. After saving my hard earned money, getting the Richmond model with induction top. Was in my new home for 2 weeks, heard a massive explosion. Turned out the door exploded open, it was replaced with a new door apparently a known issue. 6 weeks later I was cleaning around the oven and noticed my gloss cabinets melted. After having a nervous breakdown just about they covered the cabinets after 4 months of emails and calls and shouting.. 2 weeks after having new cabinets noticed the same issue. Took doing some self tests the external door was reaching over 130 degrees and climbing. The oven felt like a heater in the room while cooking. Service agent said it was a fire and safety hazard and leaking heat. Belling to this day refuse to say it has a failure and failed to repair or replace. Forget ACCC or fair trading they don't want anything to do with it as they cannot force it. You are on your own, so you can take them to court if you have the time. I've spoken to 3 different people so far online with the same issue. I say buy anything else, if I had the time and money I would take belling to court. What gets me is this oven could of caused a fire in my home or hurt my young child due to the extreme heat, I expressed this to them, couldn't care less. The unit is coming up to its 2 year warranty, I contacted where I purchased it from which have been great. I'm finally getting a refund and my kitchen fixed again. 2 years of a nightmare!!!.

Trevor, the unit we purchased was a BR900SS Belling (double oven with an induction cooktop ) it appears from the reviews that the Belling ovens have a problem with the insulation in the external side which Belling do not want to know about or take responsibility for, I would not purchase another Belling product as our kitchen cabinet next to the oven is severely scorched and Bellings after sales service is not satisfactory.

We have had our Belling Richmond for around 4 years and love it. We have noted though that the condensation seems to becoming more frequent and greater amounts of it out of the back of the unit (forming on the splash back and venting around the stove as well as forming on the tops of doors).

Has anyone else noticed this or is there something that we should have checked?

Glad to hear you have had it for 4 years without the door opening issue. I had a replacement fitted on Friday and the door does appear to stay shut better while cooking....but there was a dent in the front of the door sob sob! I didn't notice condensation but I'm sure there was a section in the troubleshooting examples at the back of the manual on this if that helps

Looking to buy a Richmond BR900 but none of my current trays fit in- they are too wide. Does anyone have trouble with this or can tell me the size of trays that they use?

1 answer

just roaming

hello,
yes some of your old trays will need to find another home like mine did. you can't go any bigger than 395mm wide in the smaller fan forced and only 320mm wide in the long oven. I tend to use the small fan forced for baking (the smaller 6xmuffin trays just fit for example). You also need to use a 320mm pizza tray for the long oven which is good if you want to cook more than 2 pizzas at a time. I use to have a large (900mm) single oven style before and it took a little while to get used to the Belling. But I prefer the flexibility of multiple ovens including less heat up time and electricity particularly when using the smaller oven for just to 2 of us. On large oven jobs for entertaining the ability to work the ovens at different temps is good.

Can someone trouble shoot this problem for me? My bottom left oven won't start, I have made sure that the clock is not flashing.

1 answer

Candice C.Belling

Hi there

If you have set the time on the clock and it is not flashing, the clock may be in the Auto function rather than Manual.
Check your display and if you have a small 'A' appearing in the top left hand side of the clock, this means that you have accidentally set it for a programmed timer start. Simply press the middle function select button until you see a small 'steaming pot' symbol instead and this should correct your issue.

If you find that you have checked these points and have no change to your issue, please contact our Customer Care team by phone: 1300 556 816 for further assistance.

I cannot figure out the instructions. What is each knob for? I am a busy person and this is an expensive item. With all the complaints about how terrible the manual was to follow, I would have expected Belling to have fixed this. Think I might take it back. Hasn't even been used!

Hiya, I am not the Bellings expert but I DO own one and it is HARD to figure at first but please persevere as this is the best I have had, and I have been thru a lot. There is also a facebook page for Bellings and they are really helpful too. I have the 'Victoria' model so the top oven on the left is what i use for grilling (also an oven). The bottom oven for small bakes (and also grills), the larger oven on the left for big batches of biscuits, roasts etc. With my model, going from the left hand side, the first 2 knobs are the left side stove tops, The next knob is bottom oven temp, which must be set with the 4th knob- to the 3rd click (for top and bottom heat). The 5th and Last knob on my left hand side is for the top grill/oven. The grill is :turn the 5th knob to 1st position, and ALSO the 6th knob (on the R) for how hot you want to grill (1-8), 8 is very hot. The7th knob is the big tall oven on the right and that is straight forward to what temp you want. Knob 8 is your wok burner, 9 and 10 are your right side top burners. Hope this helps, its worth it. cheers RR

Sorry, No, Not the Victoria, I own the Richmond model sorry for any confusion, but cant edit the above post, thanks, RR

sorry to hear you are having issue. I am the least tech savy person but I found it easy to work out. Each gas jet is clearly marked on the knobs. So if you look at the knobs you will see above the knob is a square with a circle so the front left gas jet is shown by a square with a circle in the lower left corner.
The long oven on the right is shown by a long line and below the line is the know with all the temperatures on it. It is Convection so easy to use you just turn the setting to the temperature you want and the red light goes out when it has reached the required setting. The grill is also a convection oven and again is marked by a line running left to right but in the top right hand corner of the square above it.
OK now the bottom left oven. You will see a know with different symbles on it you will have got in your instructions what each symble means. Once you select the symble you want then just set the temperature using the knob which is next to the knob with the symbles. I love my Richmond, best cooker we have ever owned and we have been through a few. Way better than Smeg. If you really cant work it out go to Harvey Norman they will be able to help you.
