Single Camera DR650S-1CH

My car has the BlackVue DR650S 1CH fitted with Magic power Pro, recently there is an issue that after it worked for the day and parked overnight, it wont work after starting the car next day, there is no GPS nor Wifi lights on which means no power through, I have to unplug the wire connection and plug on again to reboot the Cam, then it works for the day and parking at night, but again the cam doesn't turn on itself when starting the car next day. I understand the magic pro may have stopped the power because of low battery level but shouldn't it will reinstate the power once I key start the car the next day? Please advise if there is a reason for the issue and what can I do to get it right. Thanks a lot! Raymond

Hi Raymond,
I would check how old the car battery is and all the wiring to the car and the camera. One other thing would be to check the timing of the how long you want the camera on parking mode on. It may vary from car to car, if you have done all of that I would contact support from Blackvue Australia for advice

My car Porsche Macan S is less than 8 months old, the Power Magic Pro setting is 24 hours and 12.5 volts, I am pretty sure that the wiring is correct as such issues only happened previously. Now I have to manually activate the cam by unplug and plug on the cam after key starting my car, then it works for the day and overnight parking, just it wont work the next day after key starting. I recently installed a blackvue DR650S-1CH together with the Power Magic Pro. All seems well but I heard a rumour that if involved in an accident this camera does not protect the relevant file from being recorded over. Can anybody confirm or deny this. If true, is switching off the camera the only way of retaining the image?

Hi Terry, I can confirm that the DR650S-1CH does not have 'Event Locking' so all files will be overwritten when the SD card is full. We have asked the manufacturer to include this feature in future firmware updates, we hope they add this handy feature :)

DR650GW / DR650S

Hello sir I have recently purchased Blackvue 750S-1CH for my truck. The guys also sold me some hard wiring gear to go with it claiming it would not work in truck without is as it is 24 volts. My understanding is that it should and I need the gear only if I need to keep recording on battery power when ignition is on. Anyways the camera does not record with or without the hard wiring kit in truck or in car. The firmware is up to date, The recording and GPS LEDs come on when the camera is started and the sd card is the one that came with the camera. The SD card is correctly formatted in FAT32 using the Blackvue app for windows(latest download). The camera says recording normal when switched on but still no recording files. I have checked using App for Mobile as well as Windows app. The card stays blank. Please advise

Hi Tika, are you sure you didn't alter the firmware to display the files in reverse order? If not, please try reinstalling to the latest firmware.
You will need to format the SD card and download the new firmware from https://www.blackvue.com.au/support/downloads/

Hi Robin, It sounds like the GPS is losing connectivity intermittently. Can I suggest performing a firmware upgrade and seeing is this fixes the issue, failing that we may have to inspect the camera and GPS module. Can you please confirm where you purchased this model camera - the DR590-2CH is not an Australian version.
Thank you.

Thank you for your quick response.

The DR 590 2CH was purchased in Singapore without the GPS receiver. It was only recently I decide to buy online.

GPS reciever s/no: SGMKNH0001761. (purchase online was sent directly from Korea to Singapore)
and Dashcam - DR590K1GBE00176.

1. my current firmware is the latest V1005.
2. as base on your advise, how do I re install the V1005 again.

Just for your info, the last time I upgrade the firmware (before having the GPS receiver), I did the following

1. on my Mac book Pro, I download the V1005
2. format my SD card using the DR590
3. insert the SD card to Macbook pro and drag the blackvue folder (consist of subfolder: config, system and record)
4. insert the SD card to DR590 and restart the DR590. After firmware upgrade. (realised that the subfolder (item 3) left only config and record) - is that correct?

Single Camera DR650S-1CH

Hi to everybody,
I have bought the dr650s about 1 year and a half ago and now it doesn't turn on.
What happened was that I sent my car in for some repairs on the engine and left the camera connected. The garage had the car for almost 4 weeks and when I got it, they said they turned the camera off because of privacy rules.
The camera was working fine before I left the car with them but now when I connect it to the power supply the blue led for GPS turns on it stays on but doesn't record or anything else. No voice startup, wifi/card format button doesn't do anything and I can't connect to it so now I'm wondering if the camera is dead or there is a way to actually turn it on or off and I don't know.
The camera was always connected via PMP.
I tried connecting it to a friend's car who has a dr750s but the same thing happens ( blue led for GPS on and nothing else further).
I have no warranty left on it and any advice is more than welcome.
Thanks and advance!

Is there a card in it?. If GPS light is coming on then you would think there is power. No card no recording. If not contact Autoblackbox in WA even though it is out of warranty there is a consumer warranty if it is a warranty issue.

VoloviX

The card is in and working, I've formated it with blackue windows app but still no luck. I've tried running without card as well but nothing, not even the voice of the camera doesn't start. As for power, yes, it does receive power because if I disconnect it from it's plug the gps led turns off after a few moments and when I connect it again it goes on but only that led, not the front or back for recording.

Dual Camera DR650GW-2CH

We have a DR650GW-2ch with a Magic pro (set to infinity and 12 volts)
Is the front white/blue light (seen from outside) meant to keep flashing or after a while is it supposed to stop?
Also when we park in our garage at night - parking recording files stop after a few hours - until we 'start the car'
Also the dashcam will say 'powering down' whenever a door/hatch is opened (say you put something in it then return to the shops and come back later on) it will not have recorded anything until the car is actually started up again?
Any help would be appreciated Sally

The blue led light can be turned on or off in the firmware settings if you don't want it flashing a security light. You may need to check your voltage at the fuse where the power wire is linked. If you say your files are stopping after a few hours this could mean voltage is dropping below the 12 volts set or wires could be around the wrong way if not recording in park mode. If the unit says powering down it is turning off. Check your wiring connections are correct. Ps if you want your card to last longer disconnect power wire from the camera at night. The only problem is the date settings will change if being shown (firmware selection)

Sally
Sally

Thank you for your comments - however:
We don't wish to turn the light off (it is a good way to know if the unit is working or not !!!)
The cars battery voltage has been checked as is exactly as it should be
Why would the voltage drop (switching off the unit) is it not designed for use in a car ?????
The auto electrical company has re-checked all the wiring and is as they have done on many other vehicles
I don't want to disconnect anything - I just want it to work

Sibron
Sibron

I would have said your car is not charging the battery fully, but you have had a sparky look at it already, perhaps the power supply is coming from somewhere with volt drop. Your camera is saying all the right things, and its because the power is (or it thinks it is) getting below 12V at the supply to the magic pro, that it is shutting down.
I set my magic pro to 12V because my Ranger has "smart charge" and doesn't always top up the battery to it maximum. But it lasts all night and well into the morning most days.
Perhaps the Magic pro is faulty. You would need to put a multimeter on the supply wire once it has shut off. If it is over 12V, ask Blackbox for a new Magic pro.

Dual Camera DR650S-2CH

I am a driving instructor and use the DR650S-2 CH dash cams which I am very pleased with. However, when searching through recordings, quite often there is a file missing (for example: 1 min recordings jump from 20180619_155141_NF to 20180619_155433_NF with the first of those files having just 30 seconds recorded). Very often the file I am looking for is when I have had to use the dual-control (or stop sharply). At first, I thought it was a coincidence that these files were missing (I expected the recordings to have the ocassional problem)... but too often now it is when I am looking for 'incidents' that I find the camera failed to record.
Is it possible that when I do have to stop sharply that some sensor in the recording fails to complete the recording of the file due to a setting I have?
I rely heavily on these recordings to provide feedback to pupils but I'm also worried now that if I do have an accident then the relevant file I need will be corrupt.
Please can you help?
Thank you

Hi Davec,
Just a guess, but do you have the files labelled EF and ER selected when playing back?
These are the EMergency front and rear recordings made when the G force (up/down/side sensors) are activated due to sensing a sudden stop etc.
Up the top of the BlackVue viewer there are two pictures of front and rear, plus NEPM. (Normal, Emergency, Park, Motion).
Ensure that the E is selected as well, or else there will be no files with the EF or ER shown in the list.

Penrith DS
Penrith DS

The purpose of the cameras is to record constantly and you should not have to expect that some recordings don't work. The files should follow after each other so NFNREFERPFPR etc or choose the tabs to watch F-R-E etc. If you also look at the bottom where the timelines are there should be no breaks in the recordings. If you have gaps in the timeline you could also try to format the card and if it continues you will probably need a new card. There is a date stamp on the card almost transparent. We only use Lexar 666 or Blackvue cards. As a driving instructor, we rarely get the 650s cameras recording EF/ER (factory setting) if they do it is usually on down a driveway but not much from sudden braking. Maybe your settings need to also be adjusted. If you continually hear "impact detected" then adjust sensitivity settings.

Really appreciate feedback - I can confirm the following:
I DO have all "N", "E", "P" & "M" files elected during playback. When the problem occurs, I get the eaxmple following message: "Playback failed. [20180621_124439_PF]" (I can send a screen-shot if required)?
Additionally, the file before the CORRUPT file always ends short... so my files are in 60 sec segments... so the previous file will only record up to 20, 26, 34, 48 secs or so on (for example)... then jump to the corrupt file with the "playback failed" message. Once I click on "ok" to acknowledge the corrupt file... the next file starts playing which is like 2 or 3 mins later...??
Appreciate any help.

Hi,
I have noticed that the factory settings are a bit too sensitive, just change them to suit yourself.
Change them by say 10 each, then see how it behaves.

Hi petebloem,
You can use the "reset" button to reset the settings to default - this will show what the factory settings are. Dependent on what firmware version you are using will depend on the factory defaults for the G sensor.

Reduce the G force sensors' sensitivity in the settings.
The first three settings as shown are the normal driving ones, set them closer to zero. Especially the up/down one.

Hi Graham,
This is because the "event beep" is enabled in your camera settings. This can be changed through the WiFi app in the settings section.

If you want to keep the recordings, suggest you first copy the SD card to a PC.

Then follow these directions:

Change the dashcam's Wi-Fi SSID / password using BlackVue PC Viewer (Windows or Mac):

1. Turn off the dashcam and remove the microSD card from it.

2. Insert the card into the microSD card reader and connect it to a computer.

3. Run the BlackVue Viewer program.

4. In BlackVue Viewer go to Settings (Windows) / Windows Viewer-> Preferences (Mac) to access the settings panel.

5. Click the Wi-Fi tab and under Login credentials change the password.

* The dashcam's Wi-Fi password is case sensitive which means that upper case " A " and lower case " a " are considered different letters.
* If you click on "Reset", the password will be changed to default password: blackvue for DR650S/GW

6. Click Save & Close.

NB: If you do not want to keep the recordings, just reformat the card. It will become the factory default password at next reboot.

Hi La Beba B,
The above reply from had enough is largely correct. However formatting the card will not reset the password.

Dual Camera DR650S-2CH

I’ve just fitted my DR650S-2CH and it really interferes with my DAB too the point I can't use my radio at all.
I did the firmware up date but that didn’t fix it.
I will try a ferrite cable core and fit it to the rear camera cable and see how that goes.

The other problem I'm having is that the camera does not use the whole of the SD card, a 32GB Blackvue SD. It just writes a few MB's. If the parking mode is used for a couple of hours it writes over all of the video collected that day. I’ve formatted it and its 32GB.

Recording times are set to 3 mins and settings are “normal “with "HD@30 + HD@30"
I don’t know why it would be doing that and would like some advice on how to fix it.

The last thing I'd like to know is, if I have an event happen whilst driving will it save it or will it just write over it?
With it only using a small part of the memory the recording may have gone before I even get home making it a bit of a waste of money.
I hope someone can help me with this.
Thanks
Darren

Hi Darren,
Although we do not have DAB on the Gold Coast, I would imagine that your rear camera is mounted at the top of the rear window, and that the window has a built-in radio aerial!
There seems to be interference with the signal used between the front and rear cameras getting into the aerial..... Check this by unplugging the rear camera and seeing if the interference stops. If so,
Option 1.
I strongly suggest you update to the latest version on this link https://www.blackvue.com/downloads/#1460710341510-e242903f-5343 and pick the DR650S-2CH update V1.012_2018.04.03 (the very latest-March 2018 release). They changed the frequency on the link to the rear camera to stop interference to DAB.
Option 2.
Move the camera to the bottom of the rear window, with the cable coming from the floor of the car if possible -(rather than via the roof area).
Normally the recordings are set for 1 minute.
Parking mode. I assume you have a Power Magic Pro or such to have the unit powered up when ignition is off?
Also, do NOT use motion detect, this will virtually ensure continuous recording -filling up the SD card very quickly and overwriting within hours. Instead, use the parking mode's impact and vibration (G sensors) method.
The 32 GB will be recording multiple MBytes per minute, (GPS,front video, rear video, audio, plus others) around 360-400 MBytes per recording, plus logs.
Best way to ensure less stress on the SD Card is to set it for 1 minute recordings and reformat the card monthly. (Just hold the button in on the front camera till a beep is heard, it will reformat the card in a few seconds). It will not take long to fill the 32GB if motion detect is on. (Any movement in any pixel will trigger it. Leaves, trees, dogs -anything at all)
Any event that happens will be recorded as an Emergency recording, but will be over written eventually. (Assuming NO motion detect).

BlackVue
BlackVue Australia T.BlackVue

Hi Ana,
Weak WiFi can be caused by a few different factors, some of the more common ones are:
1. Low power, if the voltage is getting towards the lower end required, this can cause a weak connection, make sure the car engine is running before downloading any files.
2. WiFi interference can cause a poor connection. If there are many WiFi networks in the area it may be an option to drive around the corner to reduce the number of interfering networks.
3. Distance from the camera unit. The mobile device should really be within 3 meters of the camera for a good connection.
If you are still experiencing problems after exhausting the above fixes, feel free to get in touch with our tech support team.

Hi Michelle, Sorry to hear you having issues with your camera.
This scenario normally means the SD card has run through is servicable life and can no longer write information to the card quickly enough, causing the camera to restart. The best thing to do is replace the SD card by either purchase or warranty replacement if less than 12 months old.
All BlackVue SD cards have a 12 month warranty and are available from our authorised dealers. https://www.blackvue.com.au/dealer-locator/
Please only use compatible SD cards that are "MLC Class 10 Endurance". BlackVue only recommends genuine or Auto BlackBox SD cards.
