It helps
cooler works ok but MAJOR issue with it spitting water into the room. As I write this I have been on hold for 2hours 12minutes waiting to ask about the issue.

For adelaide its great.
Great unit in hot dry weather. The hotter and dryer the better. Wouldnt work in Sydney or Brisbane though. i use it in an uninsulated 6 x 9m shed and I am genuinely surprised how good it is. Running cost at medium is 12cents an hour.
Purchased in October 2021.

this product is not up to its good looks
I had a 4500 it worked well ! so when it died i thought the 5900 would be much better, WRONG !!!
Oh it works but not as good as the 4500. When i got it the pump was no good ! Bonaire gave me a new pump . To install it you better be sharp, cuz you just don't plug it in! Oh no you have to remove front cover
then pull out a electronic tray full of wires. Then you have to remove 3 of those wires and replace it with the ones on the pump carefully. Plus no handles to grab on to help handle casing. I see a lack of good
design in eng dept . not really planned well. Best i can say is it's better than nothing ! Joe K . Pahrump NV

Love love love it !!!
Love love love it !! I would like to purchase a pump and motor to have on hand just in case either has to be replaced. Its to hot in the California San Joaquin Valley to wait for any kind of shipping. I purchased the down/side draft 7000 and made it to side draft and put it up to sliding window. Used plexiglass and cut hole for the air. In the winter. I just slide the window closed. It has 2 speeds and it has gotten to 100 degrees already and i haven't turned it on high yet. It's
Amazing. Highly recommend.!! I did purchase this last year and it sound like they have made some changes after reading the comments. But i Will order those extra parts just in case.

Cooler Leakage
I have sent messages to Bonair directly via e-mail, but there has been no response. The unit that I purchased leaked on the left lower corner because of excess water flowing on that side of the cooler, and water ran onto the siding on my house. I called your USA reps in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they sent a new water pump to me in case the original pump was pushing too much water. I replaced the pump and still had the same problem. I called back, and one of your reps said that if the house voltage is more than 110 volts, that the pump would push t...Read more
oo much water...but the pump is rated at 120 volts...my electrical outlets measure 120 volts. He didn't know what he was talking about. I had to use a water flow restrictor (although I was told by your reps that a restrictor was no longer necessary in your current models), and that stopped leakage, but the filter pads did not soak properly/completely. It blew cool air, not cold. Because I never received a response to my e-mails (I even sent a video showing the leakage issue), I finally gave up and returned the cooler to Home Depot in Reno, Nevada, U.S.A. - I'm not happy with the lack of email response and customer support. One more comment: The Durango does not have switching to allow running the pump with the fan off. It would be nice to be able to soak the pads before blowing air into the house.Similar opinion? Fan motor defective
I installed the Bonaire Durango 5000 3 month ago and we were excited about how powerful it was on low speed. Then one day we turned it on and the fan started to turn slow at first then suddenly kicked in to high speed and was so loud we couldn’t hear the television unless we turned up the volume very high. I thought it was the toggle switch at first but it worked probably. I went up on the roof to check the wiring and everything was fine. The motor was very hot and it smelled like melting insulation. I turned it off and went over to Home Depot ...Read more
where I had bought it 4 months ago. They told me that since I had not purchased the extended warranty and the 90 days HD warranty had passed there was nothing they could do but they gave me a 1-800 number to Bonaire in Nevada to call for customer support. Boy was I mad! I called them up and they took some info and said they would ship a new motor out ASAP and it would get to my door within 3 days. 3 days have gone and passed and still no motor. I asked the rep for a tracking number to be sent to my email address but it was never sent. It Sunday so I’m hoping and praying it’ll get here by Monday. The temperature in my house during the day is 87 degrees and at night it drops down to a sweaty 79. Just lovely! I won’t buy another and can’t recommend one.Similar opinion? This Thing is Perfect for the Arizona Desert
My Durango is as old as the hills and has run like a champ for over 10 years! Pump went out a couple of years ago but that is to be expected. It cools better than my A/C. In fact, in can run you out of the house. It has paid for itself many times over.

Instructions written by an 8 year old
The instructions on how to install the bonaire Durango 4500 are the worst instructions I have ever had the pleasure of trying to decipher. First I guess the Australians being below the equator print instructions backwards. They tell you how work it before they tell you how to install it. I even went back to where I bought it and the plumbing manager couldn't even figure it out! When it says easy installation they really should take that out before they get sued. After two days of total frustration I took it back and went American. At least we ...Read more
in the US can write right. It might not have been so frustrating if all the hardware came with it but you will make a few trips back to the hardware store just to get what was supposed to come with it. DON'T BUY IT!!!!!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Cools Well. Needs A Lot Of Adjustment
Update: 10/5/18
After a lot of frustration this season, I took the thing out. I wasn't about to spend another nickle on it nor was I going to do any further adjusting of it. I'd do not recommend this unit.
This is my fourth season. The cooler does its job well no problem. It's issues are several.
1. Keeping the float adjusted correctly is awful. Big pain and I'm an expert at cover removal now.
2. Had to replace the float once.
3. Pump went out this year and replaced it. Disappointed.

Doesn’t get cold.
We live in arid Albuquerque, New Mexico. We bought a Bonaire Durango 4500 two years ago, and it blows plenty of air, but has never cooled satisfactorily. We were led to believe that it was equivalent to a regular 3-pad window cooler. Since it doesn’t work well, we are replacing it with a regular cooler. I contacted Bonaire, and they offered no recourse.

Engineering brain fart
I bought n Bonaire 4500cfm Durango last year. I attempted to remove the outside housing that also encompasses the cooler pad so I could clean it now that it has started getting warm. We have hard water and the pad is very crusty. I took out the 2 screws on the top and the 2 retaining screws on the bottom. The outside cover is supposed to slide upwards past four plastic fingers in slots on the sides. That's not happening. The outside cover will move about a quarter of an inch up...then stops...will absolutely not go any further. All the fins in ...Read more
the air openings are pointed up (instead of down)..so that you have no leverage or grab holds for your fingers...and there are no hand holds anywhere in which to pull up with. So how...pray tell is that cover coming off...when there is no where to grab..with hand nor tool. Bonaire's website product help is as worthless as the product. I suppose the only thing to do is take a sledge hammer to it then go buy a user friendly cooler. Now to top off this frustration they replacement pad for this product is $100.00 Yep..$100.00 for a cardboard pad. Would not have bought the cooler had I known that.Similar opinion? Fan motor Problems
I think this is a good cooler but be aware of the trick they play. My fan motor stopped working and smelled up the house like fried wires. When I checked it out I found that the motor was fried, as I looked around for a replacement motor there where none to be found, Home Depot said you have to order it directly from Bonaire, in Australia!! I've had this cooler for a year and a half with the warranty only being 1 year. I called them, $109.99 for a new one, it was designed differently so you had to buy THERE motor, only there's. I think Bonaire needs to help out the thousands of people who buy there product, make the motor last longer or make it not so expensive and make it available.

This is perfect. Can't live without it.
High power fan blows the house down on high. We have installed it in a small room and it pushes the door shut so its hard to open the door but with the door open it cools more rooms. For its power you have to turn the TV up slightly if its close to your head but well worth it.
Cheap as to run. Haven't noticed any change in the electricity bill. I guess there must be some change. Totally recommend it. Put it in myself in an old air conditioner hole. Easy as. No plumber required. Just a hose to the tap. No electrician as it has a normal power plug.

Works excellent!
I live on the central Wheatbelt in Western Australia, the temps usually range from 37-43 degrees, my house had two reverse cycles already installed when I moved in, but neither could ever keep up with the heat, it was usually only a few degrees cooler inside then outside. Since installing the Durango which was very easy, the house is actually cool !! Today is a 39 degree day and I have it running on 1, I usually only use 2 or 3 to cool the house quickly when I get home then knock it back to 1, I highly recommend the unit to any one living in a ...Read more
dry heat area, it is much more effective and cheaper to run then refrigerated. Just make sure you have a few Windows or a screen door open for exhaust air to flow out and this unit will work perfect. I bought mine for $770 at Jeff Mouritz gas and air in Willetton WA. This product has not been discontinued like it says above, a friend just bought one recently.Similar opinion? Exceeded expectations!
It is July 28th here in Desert Hot Springs, CA. and the outside temperature is a typical 108 degrees for this time of year with a 44 dewpoint. Fortunately for us, we installed a Bonaire Durango last year and the inside temp of my 2,200 sq/ft home is a comfy 80 degrees and the a/c has been off for nearly 2 weeks.
Pros: Excellent air flow and cooling. Clean design (we had our unit professionally mounted in the bedroom wall) and easy operation with the included remote control. Significant electricity savings.
Cons: As with ALL Evap Coolers, ...Read more
the effectiveness is considerably hampered by higher humidity (dewpoint) and this unit does require annual or semi-annual cleaning to maintain peak efficiency. Water bill will rise a little. Overall, we are so happy with this unit that I am constantly recommending it to my fellow desert dwellers. I can promise you will find this an excellent investment.Similar opinion? Real Happy With it
I live 80km east of Perth WA were summer time gets into the mid 40's. I installed the cooler in my house last summer and have been very happy with it. It keeps the temp about 14 deg. cooler than the outside temp. I am so happy with it I have installed a second unit in the other end of my house. With two of these units at both ends of my house, I will be keeping cool this summer.

Great evaporative unit!
Living in the relatively dry heat of the Riverina, evaporative cooling works well. This is the first time I have ever seen an alternative to the roof "swamp box" version of evaporative cooling. We have installed it in the wall, rather than a window, and it is cooling our BIG, old, farm house very well. My only issue is that, having bought second hand (though barely used) I don't have the winter cover, and my enquiries via email to the Australian distributor, wanting to know where I can buy one, have gone unanswered.
Cools well and quickly, reliable, energy efficient
Note: Will not cool effectively in areas of humidity!

one problem is that the winter cover is no longer being made so the wind blows thru it in winter.
