Breville, as always - your product is absolutely brilliant!
Bought the BBM100 baker's oven from Harvey Norman last week. I am not a novice when it comes to baking bread, but found that a busy lifestyle severely hampers my baking (especially when having to bake bread). This product has blown me away. Baked a basic 1kg white loaf yesterday. Just followed the instructions (resisted adding my own flair) and the result was a perfectly risen and baked bread. Did I mention that it tasted fantastic as well? Baked a 750g French loaf today (adding chopped pepperoni, mozzarella, olives and pesto) when prompt...Read more
ed to do so. Again, a perfectly risen and baked loaf which was devoured in under 15 minutes by the two of us. I always belief the trademark of a good bread is when you can eat it just like that, with only margarine spread on it, and it tastes good. I am really over the moon with this bread-maker, and recommend it very, very highly. You don't need fancy scales to get a perfect result - just common sense to measure the ingredients correctly, and to remember to keep your yeast in the fridge. Kudos to you, Breville - I can now juggle a busy life AND have perfectly baked bread, every time. Who said you could not eat your cake (bread) and have it? Packs a punch for a basic machine!

Awful machine
Used Laucke bread mix. All ingredients accurately measured but the bread rose to the lid and over the sides of the pan. Loaf was doughy. Lid cannot be removed to be cleaned. Cut my finger trying to clean it. Going back tomorrow for a refund. I will not buy another Breville bread maker.
Did not work as advertised. Will not make a 1kg loaf without overflowing.

i had the same problem then I realized that the Laucke mix is for a large 900g loaf. They say on the packet that for a standard loaf you use only 500g flour and less water.I also use less yeast, works perfectly.
Fair comment Evelyn. However, this machine is advertised as, and packaged as being able to make a 1kg loaf.
once again, this is the worst breadmaker that I have ever used.
I am having the same trouble with the Laucke mix, I have a mixed grain one, followed the 1kg recipe on Laucke packet but before the cooking time was up it had hit the perspex top & then went soggy & d... Read more

Disappointed at the inconsistency of loaves produced
I am not having very much success with this machine...I can only use one brand of bread mix, tip top kitchen collection, to produce a good loaf, and as my local supermarket inst stocking it at the moment I can't buy it, so even more frustrating...all the others I have tried either don't mix together properly or come out sticky and doughy on the inside...I have tried adjusting measurements and it doesn't seem to make any difference...I've also tried making a loaf from scratch following the manual and this failed also...so disappointing especiall...Read more

I like it
I sympathise with the other reviewers: this was my first bread oven purchase and I too had a trial and error period adjusting the amount of water for the bread to come out right. The helpful customer service staff (one lady, one gentleman, both baked their own bread and shared freely with their own experiences with tweaking the water content) put me on the right track and we've had home cooked bread and foccacias on the farm in the two years since. Also we trialled different flours and settled on a baker's bread flour (available from supermarke...Read more
ts) that sealed the deal for us. Now our only grizzle is the loaf isn't big enough. Works every time, no fuss baking, the timers let me push a button and come back later cooked The pan is on the small side for our food requirements1 comment

Terrible Machine
This has been a terrible purchase. I have tried to make at least 5 loaves of bread and it is just a big waste of ingredients. Every loaf comes out doughy despite trying to adjust the recipe according to the previous loaf, but nothing has worked. Had left the bread maker in the cupboard and thought that I should return it, only to forget and see that my warranty has run out so I will be stuck with this machine.. I would never suggest purchasing this bread maker considering every other machine I have used, the bread has been amazing.

Have tried 5 loaves and I'm still left with dough after nearly 4 hours. Have tried everything reducing water, a different pre mix and still nothing. I'm taking it back for a refund and will buy a different brand - this one is awful and I don't think much of having to travel back to the city at my cost to get it replaced - bit unfair for regional people
Didn't heat up properly

Won't buy another one
Bought a Breville Breadmaker about 12months ago. After 1 month had to take it back because the paddle mechanism had frozen (we thought). Was replaced no problems but new one did the same thing periodically. Would have to get pliers to turn and free it up ready for next loaf. Doesn't make a good loaf because mechanism doesn't turn freely enough to knead dough properly. Bought second hand older model from Salvos for $5 mainly for paddle (normally $24) as ours had lost a lot of the 'non stick' coating. Decided to try out the older model to see if it was any better. Now using the second hand machine which is making a brilliant loaf. We make a loaf every day. Would you buy one?????
Easy to use.
Paddle mechanism kept freezing up.

I love it
I've had this bread maker for almost a year and it is great.. I use it for the basic bread recipes, the bread tastes good not great like the expensive brands you would buy from the supermarket.. but the reason I bought it is to produce healthy bread of basic ingredients not to produce the best and fluffiest bread. the feature I like most is the dough option!! I just put the ingredients of any dough I want (pizza for example) and it just comes out perfect every time!! another reason we love the bread is the smell!! it fills the house, the neighbours think we run a bakery:)

An awesome bread-maker
I've just recently bought my Breville Bakers oven and am very happy with the results. I used the Laucke bread mix with mine and have produced perfectly risen, fluffy on inside and nice and crusty on the outside.
I also made some flavoured savory bread, adding chopped olives, grated cheese and chopped bacon as per recipe instructions. The family devoured it.

Love it! So easy to use!
We received this as a wedding gift nearly two years ago and it has been used at least once a month since then. It is very simple to use and whilst it may not be cheaper to make your own bread than to buy it, it is certainly much nicer, fresher and can cater to your taste. Instructions & recipes manual supplied with the machine and all ingredients are readily available at the big supermarkets. You need to be a little bit organised as it takes 2-3 hours to bake a loaf of bread but it makes life easy when it does all the kneeding, rising and baking without any help required from you.
Reliable and handy.
Can miss some ingredients when mixing.

Very unhappy
My daughter bought this particular oven from Harvey Norman. I made several attempts to make a good loaf of bread, but to my utmost disappointment it did not come right. I fully adhered to the instructions given in the manual.
its handy to use
It was not mixing even.

The correct flour or a premix is essential to make good bread.
Yes Dawn, I adhered to the manual instructions too, but after many attempts - even with packet mixes - the results were dismal. Did not rise and was pretty darn soggy. It's like the bake cycle doesn... Read more

Breville breadmaker BBM100
Have had two attempts using all the correct ingredients in the correct sequence and the bread is not rising. It cooks the dough into a brick. Even the birds had trouble eating it after I had soaked the bread in water over night. Taking back to the shop tomorrow for a replacement, in case it was a dud machine.
Will let you know how the replacement goes when i get it.
Haven't had any success to speak of.
Didn't cook edible bread.

I've had that too. The yeast was not working, called the manufacturer, sent new jar and it's OK
My first experience with the same machine was the opposite. It rose so much it hit the lid (a 1kg loaf).
Sounds as if your problem may be the yeast and not the breadmaker. I used Laucke bread mix and its associated yeast.
Yes, I have changed the yeast with better results, but still not light and fluffy bread, more like Maori bread consistency

Trouble from day 1
Didn't work properly on the basic setting, did not punch the dough down and rise it again. Result was dough all over the inside of the lid which we then discovered does not simply lift off for cleaning. Also, paddle lodges in the loaf rather than staying in the pan. Pan is difficult to remove.
Tried the other settings which seemed to work but no matter how carefully the recipes were followed we did not get one successful loaf out of it.
Sorry Breville, maybe it was just a dud machine but it has gone back to the retailer and we took a refund rather than a replacement.
Compact size
Faulty, poor design

Mixed bag.....
This was my 2nd Breville, and the direct model successor to the previous one. The old one lasted a few years, mainly 'cos it was used only every now and then, and finally in earnest until it failed.
The Good: once I got the hang of its 'character', I could produce a range of loafs 'on the edge', ie defying it to rise even though it had one cup of any of rolled oats, soy flour, linseeds, rye, spelt, mixed into 3 cups of Lauke German grain. Timer was reliable, mix predictable and always well kneaded. In short it made the bread....., but the down...Read more

Works well, very happy with it
Our first breadmaker and we have found it works well. Lots of settings, never had a problem with loaves not working out. A little noisy but I would guess most breadmakers are. We like having preservative free, hot home made bread to feed our family, it's a winner! The recipe book that came with it is also helpful.
inexpensive, reliable, makes nice bread
A little noisy

Need to buy some more ingredients. QUICK
This is the first bread maker I have ever used, followed the recipe to the tee and the result was a perfect loaf of white bread which we devoured in about 10 mins with home made pea and ham soup. The reason for choosing this machine is its not too big, fits perfectly under the cupboard and light enough for us to get out and use. Very Happy so far.

Easy bread making machine
I bought this machine when it was on special. I love it. So easy to use. Never fail once on me all these years. Compares to the one I bought my dad (another brand), mine still make fluffy bread with crunchy outside :) I make white, wholemeal, whole grains and other types of breads too. The recipe comes with the machine is fantastic! With details of ingredients and instructions.
Couple hours is so worth to wait. Every time, we end up baking two as we would almost eat the whole loaf :P
If you use the timer, make sure you are around to open it. otherwise, the bread would be flatten with the moistures from the heat.
This machine still work the same as the 1st day I used it.

Problems problems problems
For the first week the machine worked well, I was thrilled - but we started having problems soon after, it was expensive to fix. We fixed problems twice, at a cost of over $100, and have now decided that it isn't worth it anymore. I loved having a breadmaker, but would NOT recommend this one.
Lovely bread when it worked
Just didn't work most of the time!

What was the cost to you? It's coveredby a 12 month warranty.
We had to buy a new pan, which wasn't cheap, and then it needed a new motor - after the 12 month warranty had expired, and they said it would be at least $130... so I've bought a new Panasonic breadma... Read more
ker, which I'm really happy with so far! It's much easier to use - the bread comes out of the pan more easily, the knife doesn't stick in the bread. So I'd buy a slightly more expensive Panasonic than go with this one - though saying that we got ours really cheap as Retrovision was closing down...So what just did you do after the first week? It appears you did nothing till after the warranty ran out so it must have been ok for the next 12 months. This story is not believable I'm sorry to say.

I bought this oven to make bread for my son who has food allergies-it is great! So easy! I thought I would have to make dough etc but it does it all for you! I love the preset timer and there are plenty of different functions including one for gluten free breads.

Bad
I baked my first loaf the same night I purchased this bread maker and it turned out perfect. I went to make another loaf the next day and it reset itself about 5 minutes into the cycle which I was hoping would be a once off glitch as that loaf came out ok too. Ever since those first two loafs, the timer reset problem just got worse and worse. I exchanged it at the place of purchase and found the SAME problem except it was even worse than the one I had originally purchased! It wouldn't even get past 2 mins without resetting. Back to the store ...Read more
again.. the staff in the store tested another brand new one while I was there which had the same problem.. The staff at the store offered to get it fixed on my behalf through breville but I settled on another brand all-together. Price. Ease of use. Good size viewing window. 13 hour timer. Keeps resetting itself during first cycle.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Never seem to be able to get measuring right. Are the recipe measures US or Imperial?
2 answers
Measure by weight and you will not have any problems
Imperial but take note the Australian Tablespoon is different. NZ Table spoon is 15 grams where the Australian Tablespoon is 20 grams. I find the best way to measure correctly is to weigh the ingredients including the water as it measures the same.
