Great, basic unit
I mostly use this to make pizza dough but have made plenty of bread as well. It's quite basic but does the job well. I never have to worry if the weather is too cold to rise properly. I use the recipe for pizza dough, from the book and it's great.

Not a Baker's Delight
There’s nothing more impressive and sure to generate accolades and admiration from your guests than serving them home-made bread. Sadly, this is something you're unlikely to experience with this bread maker. After spending a fortune on different bread mixes without success, I consulted Breville for advice and was told the answer lay in the volume of water I used. However, despite using the exact same ingredients, the volume of water that works well when baking one loaf, fails to do so with the next. In the end I’ve had to resort to start baking with the machine and then transferring the loaf to the oven. To top that off the handle on the baking tin has broken off. Save yourself the trouble and frustration and give this product a wide berth.

Awesome litle unit
This is brilliant. It makes great bread and pizza dough. It is easy to use and has been very consistent in the short time we've had it. They are great value as you would expect from a Breville product. The kids love it and have made some very creative tastes. Great recipe booklet. Well worth it.

Great little helper
We received this for Xmas as husband has been wanting one to bake his own bread. I have to admit the instructions was clear to follow and almost fool proof, consistent performance on the result, perfect loaf from first time. But we have only tried white loaf so far and I was going to try the whole meal next. 1kg white loaf raise too high and stick on glass, though can be resolved by adding a piece of baking paper on top to stop the sticking. So far so happy.

MMM Bread.
This is my first bread maker and I am enjoying it. I received it as a gift and have made many loaves of bread with it and find it super simple to use. I don't use it to bake the bread as I find it has a funny texture, I prepare the dough in the bread maker, then cook the bread in the oven for a nice, crunchy finish.

Morning Bread Aroma
This bread machine is great and easy to use. The recipe booklet has a great guide to features and recipes. Great for making all kinds of bread and I've even made dough for pizzas and rolls then cooked in oven. Only thing is the loaves could be a bit bigger.

Great once you figure it out.
My first basic white loaf was perfect but the next three 50/59 wholemeal loaves had a lot of the same issues that people are experiencing here - sunken centre, overflowing over the pan or rising so much it touches the lid even though I followed the recipe perfectly. I then tried the same recipe on the basic setting (which is 40 minutes less than the wholemeal setting). The loaf is perfect! If you are having failures with the other settings try the same recipe but on the basic setting. It just might work.

Good while its lasts.
I have had 2 of these over the last four years and both baked great bread. The machine has good features but it does have some limitations:
- the paddle should be called a crater maker, it sticks and rips a hole in the bottom when you take the loaf out the pan.
- You can't make a big loaf -it will hit the top and make a mess.
-Be gentle on the tin- it needs seasoning to stop it wearing out and sticking.
-The machine has a limited life of just 2 years at 3 loaves per week. Both of my failed with the same symptoms, randomly stopping through the cycle and either resetting or beeping in error.

Happy with result
Bought this second hand as a second machine. I already have the top of the range sunbeam custom bake for over 1 year and never 100% happy with the crust. So, I baked my first loaf today in this Breville machine. Followed the white bread recipe for 1 kg. I am really happy with the result. Nice crust, better than the bread from my sunbeam. I used ordinary plain flour and the bread rose well, fluffy and soft. I know the yeast I used was still active and flour was fresh, as I made lovely soft bacon and cheese rolls on the weekend (with a food proce...Read more
ssor and in normal oven). So, if you haven't got a good result, maybe check the flour and/or yeast. Also follow the recommendations in the recipe book, in the order it's listed (liquid, fat, dry/flour and yeast). I will try the pre-mix Laucke wholemeal another day. I haven't had success with this pre-mix in my sunbeam, always dissapointed by the result. Will see how this machine compare. A few things I don't like are minor things: paddle got stuck at the base of bread and it doesn't tell my what stage it is at (knead, rise or bake- like my sunbeam does) and no automatic fruit/nuts dispenser. But, it's all reflected in the priceSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Ancient model better
We've had 2 of these. The first lasted a couple of years while the second not as long. The sprocket thing in the base broke. We contacted Breville but they couldn't replace the part so we reverted to using an ancient but large Breville Breadmaster Big Loaf, which is many years of age! Never misses a beat and makes better shaped loaves which are longer rather than higher and the dough doesn't hit the lid which happens regularly with the other model. Shame they don't make the big ones any more, but they lasted too long for businesses to make money out of them.

Love it.
What an incredible buy. Got it at the Factory Outlet in Collingwood for just $55 as a factory second ... was cautious about my expectations due to what I'd read ... but we are over the moon with it.
We have made dough for scrolls, pizza base dough and bread both white crusty and savoury ... every one utterly fantastic.
The only slight negative is that the larger loaf does touch the glass so the crust does not form on top and it does move around on the bench on the dough setting ... otherwise could not do better for the money. We mostly use the Laucke crusty bread pre bread mix ... taste is sublime.

Served me well
I earlier posted a bad review but after purchasing a new machine and finding my recipe still failed I decided that I needed to get new flour! Sorry if anyone was put off by my earlier review. Hopefully, new flour will solve all my problems! But for my sins I've ended up with two machines!

hopeless
I bought mine a few years ago and have never had a good result! Mostly sticks to the lid and yesterday I got it out determined to make a good loaf Followed instructions exactly and guess what bread rose that much it raised the lid so consequently the bread was a soggy mess on the top Not sure whether to throw machine or give it one more try ?

Disappointing Bread Machine
After using an old Breville Breadmaker machine we decided to purchase the new Breville BBM100 due to being a smaller size. It was ok to begin with and of late is very noisy when kneading, a squeaky noise and knocking noise. I decided to give it another go today, and again the appliance is noisier than when new so I left the room to grab the receipt. (We purchased Dec 2015) Whilst out of the kitch for only a minute the machine jumped off the bench and crashed to the floor! I called Breville, they referred to a service centre, and guess what, no...Read more
t covered by warranty as it fell, even though it probable jumped off due to a fault. $69 plus parts to look at and fix so not worth it, it cost $88.00 new. Sadly I sold my old breadmaker machine, stupidly thinking this new one would achieve the same longevity, am very disappointed and won't be buying another Breville!Similar opinion? Poor quality
We were given a new BBM as a gift and used it for five years making on average one loaf per week. It seemed to work OK except for the annoying habit of the paddle sticking in the bread. Then it suddenly stopped with an electrical bang! We thought it should have lasted a bit longer, but recognise it is a 'cheap' machine.
Purchased a new one and had variable results with the bread often not rising. Then when it was 22 months old it blew up - there was a loud bang, strong smell of electrical burning and machine went dead.
Seems to be a problem with quality control, and the only positive is that we got the first one free and had only paid $100 for the second one in a sale. Will be trying a different brand this time.

Execellent bread maker
The bread maker I got from Heathcote Appliances, the Base, Hamilton, NZ is execellent. Making 2 gluten free bread a week, using the books recipe, but have changed the flour to 1 cup tapioca-1 cup brown rice, 1 cup chickpea
1 cup potato flour. No milk powder. It comes right till the top of the bread pan. Using spices or herbs. The bread is nice and moist. Very nice

No problems at all
I have been reading some negative comments, and I think in a lot of cases, it is user error, doughy all the way through, try putting it on wholemeal, or less water, bread not rising, try using fresh ingredients, don't buy bulk or if you do keep it in an airtight container, and definately do not use bulk yeast. Yeast is a living thing, and it starts working when it gets fresh air, and it will go off, and hence your bread will not rise, when it says cold water, I have a problem with that, I always use room temperature water, about 18 to 20 degree...Read more
s C, I have used many machines, from different makers ( I used to work for a service agent in SA ), and 95 percent of the time, it was not the machine, but on saying that, it doesn't matter what brand, you will always get the odd dud, and with wholemeal breads I always found, 3/4 premix, and 1/4 white, also weigh your mix, don't do the cup business, as that varies. I have an old Breville BB200, the only reason I bought the new one is, I couldn't buy a new paddle, but this machine is great if you do the right thing, pretty well do what I have written, and you should get good loafs of bread, and trust me I have literally made thousands of loaves of bread, and can honestly say with all the so called faulty machines, maybe a couple of dozen crook ones, and from different makers of machines, it was how the customer was doing the bread, and their ingredients, usually bulk every thing.1 comment

Waste of money and time
Tried 4 times now after reading the instruction manual from start to finish and following the recipe exactly as required only to have uncooked dough all through the machine. It's going back today for a refund.
Much easier and cheaper to go buy a loaf from the shop. . Very disappointed

Not the best one
I've had 3 Breville bread ovens and have to say not the best there is. The elements constantly failed so the bread was not browned well. Although I followed the recipe for many years the dough was often not entirely cooked. Removing the bread from the tin needs to be done straight away but always comes out with the kneading hook inside the bread and the bread torn at the bottom. After years of cleaning the hook actually also failed and became stuck. I've bought a different brand and it's like chalk and cheese. Have not bought a loaf of bread from the supermarket for 9 years though because home baked bread has an entirely different taste. Makes you realise the rubbish that's passed off as bread now days.

Fabulous machine! Lots of potentials to discover!!
After reading many bad reviews about the most expensive Breville the Smart Bread Maker, I decided to buy this cheaper model, just want to give it a try. Surprisingly, it never failed every single time, unlike what I read in those bad reviews. I think probably those people did not read the User Manual & follow the recipes. It is easier to blame the machine but not themselves? LOL.

okie dough successfully last week, and I think it can make a shortcrust dough too. It kneads very well, folds in nuts and dried fruits beautifully, makes the perfect crust, bakes bread to perfection every time. I do not mind to manually put in nuts and dried fruits etc. Thanks to this beauty, now we enjoy freshly made home bread every week, as well as many other things that need kneading! I do not know how to knead by hands, although I tried to learn but no success. Now with this machine, I will not need to learn :) After I have gained experiences using this machine, I have progressed to the next stage: muck around with different recipes. I love this machine, as it brings so much joy and achievement into my life. Its kneading sound is truly music to my ears :) Great price, so cheap, works so well, very reliable, looks nice on the bench. Really great value for money. I have already recommended it to some friends.2 comments

Hi Elizabeth - thanks for your comments. The Breville team
Just some updates on this bread maker machine:
I saw couple of people said their Breville bread makers stopped working right after the 12-month mark. So I sorta expected mine to die at 12-month mark... Read more
too & I was prepared for that day to come. BUT, this little fella continued to work very well like a charm. When my families visited us and stayed with us for a longgggg time in 2017, they learned how to use this bread maker to bake bread and make different types of dough all the time, yes, ALL THE TIME!! Even my husband feels bad for this machine, as it works way tooooo hard compared to other nice small kitchen appliances I have. LOL.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Never seem to be able to get measuring right. Are the recipe measures US or Imperial?
2 answers
Measure by weight and you will not have any problems
Imperial but take note the Australian Tablespoon is different. NZ Table spoon is 15 grams where the Australian Tablespoon is 20 grams. I find the best way to measure correctly is to weigh the ingredients including the water as it measures the same.
