Execellent bread maker
I bought this one 2 months ago, read the reviews before buying it about not making good loaf, I was a bit scared but I am really happy with the this product so far. I almost make a bread every 2nd day. I used the exact quantities mentioned in the book for different recipes and it gives me the desired result. When ever I differ the quantities mentioned in the book, my loaf gives me different result. So far tried basic and sweet bread and found all good.

We love it!
We were gifted the BBM100. It's our first breadmaker & intro to breadmaking. We love & recommend it. It's simple to use & it bakes delicious bread. We've used the Defiance breadmix. So good to smell & eat home baked bread. I wrote a blog post about it at [link removed]

Two heating element failures
First failed after 6 months with heating element problems. The repaired one has failed after approximately 16 months with the exact same problem. It's pretty good when it works but too bad it fails so quickly. The problem now is finding a replacement bread maker as there aren't many in the Australian market.

Good but does not last long
Used it about once a week for making bread and dough for Naan bread and Pizzas which were great.
After about 12 months (out of warranty of course) the seal around the bottom of the bread pan broke down.
Cost of a replacement pan is about the same as the original cost of the whole item which is ridiculous.
This has now happened to me twice for the same product, so I am obviously a slow learner.

Broke after two uses
No power after the second bake, bloody waste of money! Was very disappointed, especially after the way that my second loaf came out. My advice is pay more for something that should last more than five minutes. If you are going to buy one of these then they might be a good boat anchor?

Heating Element Fails Agin
We have had three of these Breville machines and make bread usually twice a week but almost on cue the heat element fails at 12 months, the breads and doughs made in the oven when it works are fine but the reliability over time is poor. The manfacturers need to review their product quality

I recieved this from my sister and have baked two loaves with the lauke flour mix which is 600 g of flour..u add water and yeast..first loaf i used medium crust but did found it to pale...second loaf i used dark crust which was way better.crisped up nice..i added cheese to the top of the loaf and in mixture as the top has no element to make it brown.. ive had no problems with mine at all..cheap machine that does its job as it should do..crispy bread in just 3 hours

Soooo sad, it died on me after only 5 loaves
I had it for my BD in May. Didn't use it until 3 weeks ago. bought all ingredients to start. First white loaf was gd, 2nd try with laucke premix turn out gd, then 50/50, then bacon n cheese n lastly white again.
After these 5 loaves, I tried the next 7 loaves, it died on me. Got a feeling the heating element not hot anymore. Called up Breville n they say they can't do anything... Very sad BD present.

Hi Charlene, thanks for your query. Our only suggestion would be to cut the bread a little thicker and make sure that the butter is not straight out of the fridge, even if it is spreadable as fresh ho... Read more
memade bread is much softer than store bought as it doesn't have the extra ingredients that keep it 'fresh' for longer.I've been making my own bread for about a year now, my old machines bread didn't have this problem, so that makes me think there is a certain ingredient I should be putting more /less in? Thanks

Hi Charlene, There is a bit of trial and error when it comes to breadmaking. Maybe reduce the milk powder down a bit?

Very good for first breadmaker
I used a BBM100 twice a week for 3 years, mostly to make dough for rolls, now and then made loaves in the machine
Very reliable
Small capacity, ideal for small fresh loaves often, not good for sandwiches
Loaf is small and upright shape, tricky to slice for taoster
Cooks well all over, browns top quite well

OK if you only want to make plain white bread
When I have added seeds and/or nuts thie bread maker just does not cope. I tried adding them in the middle of adding flour, on the bottom, on the top and when the bell rang during mixing It either spat most of them out or the loafe ended up with a partly white and partly seeded loaf or the seeds and nuts were mainly on the bottom. once or twice the dought did not mix properly at all.
White bread was ok.
Mixing was not good. The bell to add extras was too late in the mixing programme.

weird chemical aftertaste
I've only used this breadmaker 3 or 4 times, because every time its resulted in bread that has a strange chemical/soapy smell and taste, especially in the crust. it's just not nice and I'm sure its not good for me. the smell is coming from the machine itself. I've given the tin a really good clean, and even wiped down the inside of the machine, but I can still smell that horrible smell! I've contacted breville and they just suggested for me to return my machine, but unfortunately I've lost the receipt. So basically there is nothing I can do. I'm quite unhappy that I wasted $ 130,,,,most expensive loaf of bread ever.
The machine has a strange chemical smell that stays on the bread

Frustrated Baker
We bought this machine as a replacement of another one of another brand that ran faultlessly for ten years.
Using the same Gluten Free Serrol pre-mix flour that we have bought from the Coeliac Society the new Breville ran faultlessly.
However, as sodium level in my blood tests has risen we decided to experiment with a recipe that omitted salt and baking powder.
The recipe is as under:
Wet Ingredients
Water 430 ml
Virgin Olive Oil 3 tbs
Honey 2 tbs

1/2 cup White Rice Flour 1 1/2 Cups Brown Rice Flour 2/3 cup "White Wings" Cornflour 1/3 cup Almond Meal 2 tablespoons Dark Brown Sugar 1 teaspoon Xanthan Gum 1 packet "Tandaco" Dry Yeast Mix the dry ingredients together by hand in a bowl (not the bread pan). Wet Ingredients Place into a measuring jug 2 Eggs 2 tablespoons Rice Bran Oil 1 cup Full Cream Milk Top up to 450ml with Hot Water Mix the Wet Ingredients by hand ensuring that they are between 49C and 55C Add the Wet Ingredients into the Dry Ingredients in the bowl mixing by hand as you add them. If the mixture is too thick add hot water a tablespoon at a time. Mixture should resemble a thick cake batter (Too much liquid in the mixture will make it sink in the middle). Add these ingredients into the bread pan then use a flexible spatula to smooth the top of the mixture taking care not to scratch the Tefal coating. Settings Gluten Free Colour - Dark The above settings usually ensure the loaf takes at least 2 hours 20 minutes to cook. When the baking cycle finishes, tip out on to a cake stand and cover with a tea towel to cool. Remember to remove the paddle if it remains in the bread before slicing! so easy
Just bought my first bread machine . Was nervous about making first loaf after reading different reviews of flops .After reading user manual from cover to cover, made my first loaf and let me just say it was soooooo easy. I bought a bread mix(DEFIANCE) so all I needed to do was add the bread mix, water and yeast, press start and 3 hours later a loaf of bread emerges from the machine. The first loaf had a funny taste in the crust, I think because it was the first time the element was used. No funny taste with next loaves.
One tip - as I was ner...Read more

Inexpensive workhorse
I've bought the Breville BBM100 four times as I'm used to it. I only get 1-2 years out of each machine before it wears out. I cook a loaf about every second day so I can get up to 300 loaves, say before I need to buy another machine. One trick I learned over time was to put 50mls less water than recommended on the packet. I'm sure each different bread machine has it's own fine-tuning.
Inexpensive, not too complicated and just works
Only last for about 300 loaves

Would very much like to know why you use 15mls less water, having problems with very uneven top of finished loaf, still love my machine a BBM800 and the bread tastes great, Gemma
Ah! 50 mls less, not just 15mls otherwise loaf will hit the roof. Warmer water makes loaf rinse more, too.
It can be annoying trying to get the 'kneading blade' out of the loaf of bread when you tip the finished hot bread out of the bread pan. My blade always slides off of the drive-spindle and stays in th... Read more
e loaf. What I often do is wait until the timer count-down says 150. The machine gives the dough it's final knead (5 flips). I wet my hand so it won't stick on the dough and reach in to remove the blade at that time.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

This machine does everything I ask of it.
I had ordered this bread maker from Harvey Norman and placed a deposit on it. It was after that I decided to check some reviews on the machine. After I had read a couple of pages here I really started to think I had made a bad mistake. I have been baking bread for more than 35 years, back in the days of doing it the hard way, then using a Kenwood mixer with dough hook to take out the hard work, and more recently with a Black & Decker breadmaker that finally decided to lay down and die. Have had perfect results every time with the Breville. I be...Read more
lieve it's not the machine that is the problem, but the operator. There is not much room here to fully comment, so if anyone would like tips, feel free to email me and I will try to help. Never seem to be able to get measuring right. Are the recipe measures US or Imperial?
2 answers
Measure by weight and you will not have any problems
Imperial but take note the Australian Tablespoon is different. NZ Table spoon is 15 grams where the Australian Tablespoon is 20 grams. I find the best way to measure correctly is to weigh the ingredients including the water as it measures the same.
