Does leave a hole in the middle of bread

1 answer

Yes it does leave a hole, but only the size of the mixing blade. It has never been a concern for me.
My greatest problem is just in learning how to place the settings right, which they must be!
Thankfully my friend can set the machine and we have not bought bread for quite a few months now.
I really enjoy this bread and crust when fresh, but later toasted is even better.

My bread maker won't allow selections with the dial and although it turns I can't alter the size or color of the loaf. What can I do?

I have exactly the same problem. I have a smart daughter who seems to be able to do this, however her instructions to me go over my head. Study the booklet seriously and contact the company. It really is possible to do but I have found it quite a puzzle, but there is a solution. I wish I could send my daughter to you but she is unwell and asleep.

SELECT push-dial (turn to scroll, push to select)
- Scroll through 14 settings, 3 crust colours and 4 loaf sizes.
- Use in conjunction with the MODIFY button to change the
default temperatures and times for the preheat, knead,

Can someone tell me in the custom mode how long or the maximum time you can adjust the rising time for? I know it can have 3 rises its the actual time they can be adjusted to I want to know. Reason I want to be able to adjust the rise time to allow for loaves like sourdough that have a long ferment/rise time :) Thanks

You have probably worked it out by now. I make sourdough breads all the time, and have several programmes in, depending on the state/age of the starter. Checking in rise 3 if you are not doing an overnighter, is the best plan. If its not risen to your liking, press pause, restart after half to 1 hour, and it will go through.
Current program is
Preheat, 0 knead 1, 5min. Knead 2, 20min. Rise 1 temp27degrees, 60min. Punch down, 10sec. Rise2 60min. Punch down 2 10sec. Rise 3 1hr40min. Bake 1hr10min. 142deg. Total time 5hr15min
You can also put in a bake only program. 142deg 1hr 10min.
Happy baking.

This sounds like a problem with yeast. You MUST have yeast that has not been killed by heating.

We have had this breadmaker before & it made good fruit loaf (raisins or dates & figs). We just bought a new one & the fruit disintegrates. We even tried putting dates & figs in whole. All dates & most figs disintegrated. (We put the fruit in when it beeps)
The result was a sweet but fruitless loaf. Any suggestions?

I have purchased The custom loaf pro and it Is fantastic. Is it normal for the kneading to be very noisy with the bread basket (yes it is in properly) moving loosely. I have made the smallest loaf today and it was very noisy to the extent that I thought it would rock off the bench. The bread comes out yummy.

How many loaves roughly have been made?
Was the shaft that turns the paddle getting worn (can rock rather being tight in the bearing)?

I love my bread machine, use it twice a week but just recently my bread has come out as if punched in the mddle and the loaf not cooked. I stood and watched it and a short time after it started baking it started kneading the dough again then finished baking. Any ideas and can it be fixed?

Best to contact Breville but you could also take out the paddle at the start of rise 3, this would prevent more kneading during baking. I always do this to get a smaller hole in the loaf, just pause when rise 3 starts, take the pan out, remove the dough and paddle then return the dough to the pan and put back in the bread maker.

Thanks Tam I'll give that a try, but I sometimes bake my bread overnight so I may have to see if I can get it repaired. Thanks again.

I haven’t had that, maybe unplug it and plug it back in? Also try pushing the knob in a couple of times for the size/ colour selection, then see if it works. If not best to contact breville. Also make sure you don’t still have the sticker on the display like the person below haha

Maybe this question has been asked already.
I love my bread machine, and used it quite often to make delicious breads all my friends love. However, lately, the machine has been flashing and beeping while making the bread. It did it in the past for a couple of minutes, now, it lasts longer.
The machine is not in a hot place, so I think it must come from within the machine itself. If it does, how can i find out ?
Thank you,

Patrick.

I cannot give an answer as it has not happened with our machine. There is a short beep on transition from one process to the next, but not long. If the excess beeping and flashing is not mentioned in the trouble shooting part of the manual, I can only suggest to contact the Breville Customer support. The number will be in the manual or on the Breville online site somewhere.

Unplug the machine, get a vacuum and clean where the cooking bin area is. The small breadcrumbs and residue cause this problem. I had the same problem, and just cleaning and vacuuming solved it. Good luck :)

Sandy McC

This sounds like the same problem that I had. When I investigated, I became aware that many people have had faulty circuit boards that cause flashing. Breville refuse to fix this, unless the maker is within the first 12 months.

Is it safe to eat bread from the bbm800xl if the bread pan non-stick is flaking off? Is the metal underneath safe for food consumption? Is there a way to get a pan that does not have the non-stick coating?

1 answer
Ozwelder
Ozwelder

Both the following answers are just my opinion.

If the teflon is"flaking " off rather than being easily scratched off, that is a manufacturing fault and I would be inclined to return The BBM800 for warranty or replace the pan if not under warranty. Literally millions of people cook with teflon coated frying pans and saucepans with no reports of harm from them, that I am aware of.

As for the underlying metal being food safe, would the manufacturer risk using it, if it were not safe.

To the best of my knowledge there is not a pan made from alternate materials.

There are no 100% rye recipes that can be made in a bread machine. You are thinking of the dark Danish rye breads perhaps? They are made very differently and baked for long periods at low temperatures.

What makes the fruit and nut dispenser open? Mine has stopped working. It has been cleaned and I see nothing that would prevent it from opening. The latch that hold the lock from inside goes in and out if I press it but not sure where the actual control is.

I've only used the dispenser a couple of times and it worked fine. I make bread 2 or 3 times a week but it's usually plain wholemeal. It sounds as if you've done everything right. It's really frustrating when things don't work. It might be time to contact the company to see if they can suggest something. Otherwise you'll need to go back to the store, which is annoying. I hope there's a simple fix.

It is activated by an electric magnet. If you hold a magnet against the black disc on the side of the lid, it will spring out.

I haven't used my breadmaker for about 12 months. I have now made 3 loaves are flat solid and not raised, I am using fresh flour and yeast. My breadmaker appears not to be proving at all? Is it worth while my taking it to a repairer who might find a simple answer or just buy another. which being a pensioner I can't afford.

Hi Patricia,
Let's start with the basics. If you mix just the dough in the mixer, does it then rise in a reasonable time? If not it's probably water too hot (killing the yeast) or too cold (long time to rise) or another batch of dud yeast (it can happen that the new yeast you bought was already dead when you bought it). Let us know how you go.

Patricia
Patricia

I have bought all new ingredients, also Lauke bread mix complete with yeast, followed instructions both on packet and prior to the BM recipe book,(cold water) all 3 loaves cook the size of the mix. Doesn't appear to have a proving ( rising) part of the program any more, seems to mix then cook. No problems when last I used it. Could this be a fault in the machines programming?
I know bread, as I used to make my bread by making a master yeast plant from potato/sugar/flour method. before dried yeast became readily available.,

Miffed

Hello Patricia.
It sounds as if you're doing everything right. If your water is not too hot or too cold then it might be a problem with the machine. I wish I could help but I've not experienced this problem at all. I'd love to hear how you solve this. It could happen to any of us.

I just purchased this machine after my old Breville breadmaker ceased after 10 years faultless operation (twice a week).
Followed the instructions and the dial does not work. It is stuck on 'basic', so started the machine anyhow. It was kneading for 22 minutes, probably is rising now, but the time is still stuck on "3:05 Remaining" and the bar at the bottom still shows "Knead 1". I am very disappointed. Taking the machine back to the store. I will get a replacement but also ask in the store to plug it in to make sure it works. I fear this new machine will not last as long as the old one. At this stage I think it may be a waste of money and should have researched other manufacturer's products.

Has anybody else have problems with the dial and choosing settings?

Let me guess: you didn't know that you had to press the button in after turning it? I was using it for a week before I figured out how to change the crust colour. I think the problem is in the manual, not the machine.

delphii

No, worse than that! :) This is really embarrassing, but everyone can have a good laugh now at my story:

My kitchen is not really well lit and the machine is in a corner, so I switched the light on the machine on and, of course, the screen lit up. I kept turning the dial and nothing happened. So, as mentioned above, I just let it work when I realized it was working. Then, I noticed a little bump on the screen which annoyed me, so started to scratch it. Only then did I have a closer look. Hey, the screen felt like a sticker!!! An opaque screen protection sticker that was bright enough but not clear enough to see the actual display underneath :) As it turned out the dial just happened stop on "Crusty bread" and not "jam" and, despite being whole meal flour the loaf turned out nice. I mean, every machine on every website shows that same sticker! Do I feel stupid? Yes, I feel stupid indeed, but having a good laugh about it now.

I would love to edit the question but don't know how.

Hi Breville,
The paddle on my machine is stuck in the 'up position'. I carefully wash it after each use in warm soapy water as recommended. Is there a way to remedy this problem?

The paddle is probably seizing up due to incompatible materials. Rusting inside or flour buildup. Cleaning wont help. You can never fix it. I tried myself. There are a couple of push in pins that would be great if they went all the way through so they could be removed....but the collapsible paddle is of no use whatsoever. A retracting paddle might work, but they havent been able to develop that yet....so I'm returning mine. Its not fit for the function described.

Sandy McC
Sandy McC

I've had 3 of these machines and my paddles ALWAYS jam like you describe. The most recent one was treated VERY carefully but still jammed.
Now I set a timer to alert me exactly when Rise 3 starts, and I remove the paddle so that it don't rip a huge hole in the loaf as it comes out at the end.

Press and hold the START / PAUSE button for 3 seconds to pause the machine. My current technique is to flop the dough to one end of the pan and rotate the shaft from the underside of the pan. When the paddle is pointing up (away from the dough) I stroke the edge of the paddle until the dough parts. Grab the paddle blade and pull it off the shaft.
At that point I usually scatter sesame seeds on the loaf, then I tilt the dough to the other end and add more seeds. Press the START / PAUSE button to continue

Bread mix sticks to diagonal corners in the pan. If we do not help it mix, the loaf comes out floury on two corners. If and when it mixes ok we get a good loaf. Why does it stick to the pan, as the inside of the pan is in very good condition?

Anita

I am a daily automatic bread maker of 18 years experience.
You need to increase the water by a tablespoon. Or two. Test and see. The dough should 'come together' if the water is right. You can add it if it is half way through kneading, and it should improve the ball of dough. Sometimes I use a plastic scraper to bring the dry bits in. Note the water increase on your recipe and you are done.
Wet mix sticking to the sides and not coming together is too much water, in case you are wondering, add a teaspoon of flour.
