Hello. I just bought this and tried for first time. Tried to make sorbet. It won't stop churning. It was over an hour and I hit pause, to test texture, and it was good. After I unpaused it, it rang and flashed add mix-ins. That wouldn't stop flashing. I could tell it's been done well before the mix-ins flashed, way late. It just kept going and going. Any ideas?

Hello Mark. I experienced the same last week while making Sorbet (mango & peach). It was going for nearly 75 mins until I paused it. Not sure why it does when it set to sorbet. The ice creams came out wonderful every time. As for the sorbet this could be something the Breville team reading this could answer to both of us. Thank Mark. And yes, the sorbet was nicely textured though.

Hi, We have a problem with our machine. The Pre-Cool function is not cooling at all and the temperature remains at 24 degrees celsius. I have only made ice-cream with this machine 3 times before. Very disappointing!!!!

Mine has worked perfectly so far.

Yours definitely doesn't sound as if it is working (at all) so I'd suggest calling it in as a warranty claim.

what if mixture spills outside of the bucket? what happens? is it hard to clean?

If the mixture spills out of the bucket, it will freeze the bucket to the machine - the centre churn should still work but the bucket will be frozen solid to the machine. Turn off the power, remove the centre stirer and carefully scoop the frozen ice-cream out of the bucket. Wait for it the bucket to defrost and it will come free. Wipe out the casing with a damp cloth and dry it and the bucket thoroughly before re-assembling. DO NOT force anything in the meantime.

Sorry for the delayed response. No worries at all with the spillage. Its easy to clean. Mine spills all the time as I tend to fill it to the limit or more and have to wipe off. I hope this helps clarify your query, if you have still been holding your decision to go for it.

As I know the bowl is made of aluminium metal it’s not safe to dishwash....but don’t worry you can make it like before by adding lemon and vinegar water in a bowl untill 6 hours...your bowl will be ready to use

My smart scoop has stopped working, it turns on when the power button is pressed, but then if I press start it does nothing, if I press pre-cool button it powers off....is this a common problem? Purchased 10/1/2016...is this still under warranty? I think it should be 2 yr warranty?

It’s because the compressor needs correct electrical input there are two types of specification in breville 1- 110-150 v 50 hertz and 220-240 v 50. Check yours and plug to a correct spot

Hi, we have this machine and find it to be noisy when churning. Is it usual for it to make a squeak/squeaking noise when churning?

Yes, ours wasn't quiet at all but check the seals. There is a little opaque one on the spindle that came off ours one day and it seemed to make everything noisier. In saying all that ours still broke after a few weeks so we took it back and thought it wasn't worth replacing. You spend that kind of money you don't want to have to keep mucking around with it. Good luck with yours!

Sam
Sam

The loudest noise I hear is the compressor pushing through the cold air, you do hear the churner but I don't think a squeaking noise would be normal. Whether or not it's still under warranty suggest you get it looked at, if the seals are gone it can only cause more damage in the future.

Hi Breville, I have had my ice cream maker for a couple of months now and love it - but just wanted to check why the bell doesn't always ring at the end of the cycle? I get the bell to add ingredients, just not the one signalling completion. I've checked and it's not on mute... any ideas?

1 answer
Sam

Is the churning actually finished or does it say remove paddle? If your ice cream gets too hard to churn it won't finish the cycle, stops and asks you to remove the paddle (which I don't know the point of, it can't churn without the paddle).

When making non-dairy ice cream should the pre-chill feature be used?

1 answer
Sam
Sam

Pre-chill only speeds up time to churn ice cream. If you pre-chill the mix before churning you can pre-chill the machine. Just remember to take the bowl out beforehand.

Used the ice cream maker less than 10 times and the last time it made a strange knocking noise. I removed the basket - no change. I selected pre-cool - no noise.
The ice cream maker still works but it does not sound right.
Any suggestions how to address this issue?

Have the same problem. Looking for answers to find out if this is normal or if my machine is defective and should be returned under warrantee.

I have the exact same problem... Near the end of the cycle... continuous thunk thunk thunk sound as the motor is challenged with a thicker ice cream consistency. This happened after two month's use (about 5 batches). Very disappointing coming from Breville. I have so many Breville products that I thoroughly enjoy.

I will return this back to where I bought it.

This is a long shot seeing as you’ve posted some time ago but, have you resolved the noise issue. It’s happening to mine now. Just bought last month. Could it be overfill? Choc chip getting stuck?

The indicator was already blinking at the last Gelato setting, when i opened the cover to add mix-ins. After that, the indicator went back down to Cooling and it didn't progress past that for over 15 minutes. At the end of 15 minutes, i simply turned off the machine and removed the ice cream. Can anyone shed any light on why the indicator reset and didn't move? Thanks!

Lots of fatty lumps in my icecream after using thickened cream and pouring cream. Could the machine be over churning and faulty?

I use whipping cream and it doesn't do that.
I did however use thickened cream last night and it did the same. I'm not sure if its because I whipped it until stiff and then added to the machine once it was already churning, when maybe I should of done it before pouring mixture into churner

Im sorry but you dont whip cream before you add it to the churner. I followed the recipe to a tee...anyway I have a new machine and only time will tell.

It does take a while to completely cool down the zoom it freezes quickly so keep an eye on it.what I sometimes do is do a pre cool,so just hit the cool button while you are making your ice cream mix first.
Hope this helps

Is my icecream supposed to be frozen at the end of the cycle? The bell always go off, signaling that it's done but my icecream still feels really runny, like melted icecream or milkshake. This is already on the hardest setting. It's been advertised that you can eat your icecream straight out of the machine so I am very confused!

1 answer
Hales
Hales

The consistency will be like a soft serve ice-cream. If you think it's way more runny than that perhaps review the recipe you're making. Too much sugar can be an antifreeze and other elements of the recipe that you're using can be imbalanced. Once the mix obtains the 'soft-serve' consistency transfer mix into a container so you can freeze it to a firm or how you prefer to eat it. Hope this helps! I've loved my machine!

I have never had any issues with the churning or dials either,it goes like a dream. Only thing I would say us the alarm to let you know to add "extras"is not loud enough and sometimes miss hearing it. Great machine

We recently purchased one of the machines and have had problems both churning and pre-cooling. I pressed the pre-cool button, and the initial temperature shown (27°C) didn't reduce but increased by 1 degree after a few minutes. I tried without the pre-cool setting, and the temperature remained the same (27°C). Both were tested with no mixture in the bowl. We had this problem initially and had our machine replaced, only for it to occur again. Hope you can help with this as it would be greatly appreciated :)

Same here, mines been fine. I think you may have hit a faulty batch. Got mine in New Zealand. Most of the complaints with this fault seem to come from Australia. Get onto breville direct.

Hi Harry, i think you're right to pressed the pre-cooling button first as the machine need to be cool before you put the mixture in. i have been using this machine for 3years now and everything is fine, you should bring it back to the store and get a replacement i think. harvey norman is very good with warranty/replacement as i have problem with airfryer and they just replaced with new one.

Hi Breville,
I got this machine at the end of 2014. When it churns, it makes a loud whistling/squeaking sound. It used to be intermittent but now it's happening every single time I make a batch of gelato or sorbet and it lasts for the entire time that it's churning. So annoying! I posted on your Facebook about this a year ago but never got any reply and I've not had a great customer service experience from Breville over the phone with my BES900 espresso machine.

Any tips or suggestions on what the problem might be?

Is this machine meant to be loud? I've used mine 3 times now and the third time in just the beginning it sounds like it's churning its hardest. When I first used it I was in glee because it was so much quieter than my cheaper icecream maker. Now it's only a bit less quieter than that one.

2 answers
Monika Bagby
Monika Bagby

I don't consider it to be too loud....it gets louder as the mixture gets thick but not excessively so. I think a certain amount of noise is normal. Hope that helps .mine is about the same as my cheapie machine was . However, remember the smart scoop has a compressor...not just a tiny motor for the paddle.

Catt
Catt

It is definitely not a whisper quite machine but not too loud. My machine got louder when it churned harder towards the end of the mixing. Unless its making a clunking noise the churning noise it makes is normal

Hi, has anyone tried making ice cream dairy free with this machine, apart from the recipes in the book? Purchased this machine as I don't eat dairy but my first batch of ice cream was sloppy even though I used a recipe that I found online. Any ideas? Thanks in advance :) I'm hoping this machine was worth its money.

Hello, yes I make dairy free ice cream since following a dairy free diet to help try and clear up skin issues I suffer from. Coconut milk and cream in place of the dairy work well when used in the machine. Adding a bit of vegetable glycerine to the mix helps it from going too icy. Most dairy free ice cream recipes you find on the web seem to work well in the machine

Debbie
Debbie

Thanks, I did use coconut cream. Will try the glycerine, too icy once frozen.
