Breville has rebranded their Cafe Venezia Espresso Machine to the Compact Café. The product remains otherwise the same.

Makes OK coffee
We have had this since last year and its simple and very reliable. If I had my time again, I would buy a machine that can get more pressure as I think that is what is holding it back. I cant quite get the delicious coffee I am after and I have tried all different parameters. It produces OK coffee just not fantastic. It looks good and is compact.

Not bad
the only problem with this coffee maker is that in the end the metal filter bucket that holds the coffee ( for want of a better description ) blocks up and you will after about ( in our case every 10 months or so )need to buy a new one as they are unserviceable .If this was fixed I would give this machine a 10/10 rating

Simple Is Best
I really enjoy the simplicity of this machine. My family members have some extremely over the top bells and whistles coffee machine but this little thing makes coffee just as good in my opinion. It takes up very little space, looks good and is very simple to operate. So long as you use good quality coffee and a little patience to fill the basket correctly, you get very nice results every time.

Value for money
As an entry level machine, I think the unit is excellent value for money. We've had ours for four years and haven't had any major issues, although initially we did have issues with lukewarm coffee but that's because we didn't follow instructions which said you need to let run water through the brewing head first. We had no problems with frothing either - it's great having that function as I am able to make babycinos for my toddler. It definitely met my expectations for what it's worth.

Good Little Coffee Machine
I use this daily to make my heart starter in the morning. I have it down to a fine art and have the coffee done before I even think about it. The machine is neat and compact and very simple. Water in, grounds in switch on coffee out - that's it. The steam wand isn't the greatest but I just have fresh milk so all good. Simple to use a decent machine.

Love The Great Coffee
Love this machine. I can brew up a cafe style coffee any time I feel like it.
It's an easy machine to operate and clean. There really not much to remember except to keep the water topped up and empty the drip tray. It does carry on a bit with noise while you are actually making the coffee but no big deal. The milk is a bit more tricky to master but it didn't take too long. You have to remember to very carefully clean the wand afterwards though because its difficult to clean once it cools down. Overall a very simple and effective coffee machine that looks good on the kitchen bench.

Hmmm.
Bought this because I only make one or two coffees a day. No matter what I did the coffee was never hot enough. I could not get it above 70 degrees. Took it back and exchanged in case the unit was faulty. New unit was the same. Breville were no help at all. There were a few other glitches with it, so I gave up, I took it back for a refund, but bought a different brand machine that cost a bit more. Now I have hot coffee in the morning.

I love how you can use any time of coffee for your enjoyment of your morning coffee! It is quite noisy & does take a little effort to clean but is very simple to make a coffee & use. Would highly recommended this product to my family and friends very much so.

Value for money
Excellent value for money, coffee is good and the machine is easy to use.
Easy to clean and the machine is compact, not taking up too much room on the bench.
Milk frother works very well and the machine is ready to use in a short space of time. Recommend

Easy to use coffee machine
I have many coffee machines in the past but i have never encountered one which is this easy to use, stylish, easy to maintain and consistent coffee every time. Very happy with this purchase and been using this every single day. One small issue it that it may not fit cups that are generally taller.

Gets the job done
This entry level machine does a great job. The milk steamer does well to make that cafe style coffee, making coffee art a breeze. Sometimes my coffee does taste a bit watered down though; passing through the grind without extracting the taste or over steaming the milk, I'm not sure. Definitely worth considering on a budget.

Excellent little coffee machine
This is an ideal, easy to use coffee machine for beginners, although I am still happy with mine after two years. In my small household of one person this coffee machine is excellent! It's compact design requires less bench space. Makes great coffee! Minimal cleaning required. Can't live without it now.

Perfect machine that does the work
Easy to use machine, instructions easy to follow. Would recommend this for any beginners who wants to try and make coffee at home. The only downside to the purchase was the instructions was not really extensive on how to make a good cuppa. Would appreciate more input from breville. Other than that would recommend it for the price

Good product, not excellent.
Have had no issues with this product over the last free years. it is a little slow to heat up but does a good job. I wish it came with a better tamper however as it just comes with a light plastic one and it is a bit clunky to be called compact. But overall it does the job, it isn't amazing though.

Great but not fantastic
I purchased the specific coffee machine about a year ago from JB hi fi. I found it very easy to use and also to clean. However in order for you to be able to taste the coffee (and not the milk), I highly recommend that you buy a very strong cofee.

Large footprint. Took forever to heat up
I owned this for 2 months before returning it. This unit is large, slow, clunky.
But my biggest gripe.. is that it just never fully heated up. I'd be midway through making a coffee and the temp gauge light indicating it was hot and ready, would turn off.
I would leave it for AGES. Followed instructions perfectly. Nothing seemed to work.
Back to the French press for me.

An improvement on the Cafe Roma!
UPDATE after 6 months use – all good except issue with single cup filter, detailed at bottom.
A bold claim, but I think the Venezia is better than the mighty Roma.
I can use a finer grind of coffee and thus use less coffee for the same taste. I can now get a strong coffee using a single cup filter (EDIT: but not with the Breville supplied one).
The milk frother is more powerful and creates better froth, without using the 'froth enhancer' tube (I have removed it to make cleaning easier). Venezia heats up steam before opening the valve, so...Read more

Overall great machine
This is a great little machine. I bought it to replace another Breville machine that was a little more advanced that lasted me a good 10 years before it blew. It is compact, heats up quickly, is very easy to use and clean, has a decent sized water reservoir that clips on the back, and is self purging. The drip tray comes out easily and the excess water flows cleanly into the tray with no mess. The frothing wand is easy to clean and works very wll in frothing the milk. The coffee from this machine is good, and I usually find with most es...Read more

Still going after a year.
I got this coffee machine just over a year ago and it is still going strong, which I am happy about since my last coffee machine lasted about 6 months. Easy to use and clean. Milk frother is loud, but works well. No complaints from my end, simple to use and enjoyable.

This is a step up from the coffee machines I have purchased in the past
fairly easy to use, just remembering to prime the machine first so the coffee is hot, easy to clean, taste's good, milk frothing easy to use as well, just remembering to clean out coffee grounds after each use, it has some good features as well, all in all a good machine so far only purchased a week ago.

Does the machine use ground coffee or beans
1 answer
Only ground. If you purchase beans you will have to grind them yourself, which is a bit of a chore really. Best to get already roasted ground beans.

Hi there,
I have just inherited this machine, and when trying to make coffee I get a fine strong jet of water spraying into the cup from the center hole instead of coming out of the two sides of the filter eject system. Sorry in advance if this is an ignorant question, but this is surely not normal. I have tried cleaning the filter but no change. What am I doing wrong?

Never happened to me before. Suggest you contact Breville to get assistance. Sorry can't help more. Good luck.
