Good when it works
Hey guys, I know it sucks when it breaks down, but it's an easy fix: it's just the thermal cutoff, most of the times.
So, obviously if it's still under the warranty, send it back.
Otherwise, if it breaks after one year, like happened to me:
unscrew the bottom, there are three screws, one is hidden under a black rubber plug.
Open the bottom, find a white cable. You'll see it gets wider at some point: under there, there is a thermal cutoff you wanna replace.
It's kinda similar to the procedure depicted here.

The model of the thermal cutoff is different though: sefuse sf169e

Good while it lasted
Mainly bought to cook rice though my wife did not use as much as it was too big for two people, i enjoyed the versatility of a slow cooker, but one day it just died hot plate will not heat up, and 6mths out of warranty, for a unit that had light usage, not good. I'll be thinking twice about purchasing any Breville products.

excellent until it suddenly died on me
This was a great appliance while it lasted. I used it all the time to slow cook, and make rice and risotto. However like other reviewers have reported, all of a sudden the hotplate stopped working and it was useless. And just outside of warranty too, so no point trying to get a refund or replace it.
I won't be buying another at this stage and I'll just stick to making rice and casseroles the old-fashioned way.

Not worth your money
The slow cooker function is rubbish. Only used rice cooker function & only once a week. After machine stopped working (out of warranty but still within reasonable use), I contacted breville & they were unwilling to accept blame. They were very unhelpful. Will definitely think twice before buying breville again.

Really good and reliable
Had this around 2 years now. its fantastic and so easy to use. It makes perfect rice in about 10 mins and keeps it nice and warm for a while after too. it also steams and slow cooks with 2 settings. high for 4 hours and low for 8 hours and automatically switched to keep warm once its finished cooking. we use it all the time. great size too and very easy to keep clean.

Great space saver
I bought this just for rice because I didnt want to get a dodgy cheap one as it gets used every day. It has now let me get rid of the awful giant slow cooker I had. It is the perfect size for me to cook for 4 people with some leftovers without feeling like I have enough food for an army. Just chuck it on and leave it! still going strong after a year, I have recommended everyone in my family get one too.

Only lasted 5 uses
I thought this would be really handy but it's been a complete waste of money. I've used it a total of 5 times and now it won't work on any function. Last time I ever buy a Breville product

Good when it works - short life span
Similar sentiment to other reviews in that the rice cooker worked well while it lasted but it broke down a lot sooner than I thought it would. The heating plate recently broke a month or so ago, so the rice doesn't actually cook even though the lights are on.
I called customer service only to be advised I needed to contact a 3rd party repair company. I ended up calling "Metro Wide Appliances" in Hornsby NSW as recommended, but the person on the other line seemed very disinterested so I don't think I'll go. I've decided to just buy another rice cooker (not Breville) and hopefully the next one will last longer.

Great for one pot slow cooking
It's a great one pot for slow cook. Easy to clean and easy to use. Cooked lamb shanks, beef cheek, beef shin beautifully, also due to one appliance/pot with sauté/sear function, whether on low or high slow cook. I have had difficulty cooking brown rice, an amendement to rice/water ratio is required, triple water. Risotto was good and no fuss

Fantastic Product, Very Happy
This multi cooker is amazing I've been able to steam, slow cook and also make risotto. The food has come out really good and so easy to use and the function to allow the food to keep warm after cooking is really going on too. Love this product use it all the time, really happy with it.

Fantastic
I love this appliance as it is easy to use and so versatile.
I can use any type or cut of meat and end up with it always being tender and succulent.
I have used all the many different functions with tasty tender results.I really like that I simply use the one appliance rather than having to wash multiple saucepans.

Limited Testing
In spite of some bad reviews here I bought one of these mostly for slow cooking of both meat/vegetable meals and soups. I used to use a stove-top pressure cooker but found I had too many burnt bottom failures plus you couldn't leave it unattended.
I have had the multicooker for 2 months now and it has performed perfectly well on both meats and soups and allowed me to set and forget it with no burning. I have not tried out the risotto or rice settings yet.
Others have reported here on early control and element failures - I will be more sure o...Read more

Truly fabulous appliance. Highly recommended.
After deliberating on what to buy, I chose the Breville Multi Chef to replace our rice cooker and slow cooker. It is recommended by Choice and seemed to have excellent features.
First trial was a seafood risotto. It came out superb. Used hardly any oil and no butter, but still the texture was creamy perfection.
Next trial was slow cooked whole chicken. Again, amazing results.
Finally, we tried it for rice, using the rcommended proportions. No spillage on the bench and we had fluffy rice, perfectly cooked in no time.
I love how I can ha...Read more

DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT
I bought this from Peter's of Kensington with money I received for Christmas. It is about 2 months old. I have cooked rice in it, but had to adjust the amount of water. Quantity suggested in totally inadequate. Today I decided to make a chicken curry in it. Have had to take it out and cook it using a conventional oven as the cooker keeps switching off. As suggested in the troubleshooting guide I have checked that it's plugged in properly which it is.

If 5 or 6 times is enough
I cannot believe my cooker broke so soon. It worked 5 or 6 times max. I thought maybe it was me, but reading other reviews, it is the product. Looks great and like it would be a well built product, but not at all. I will buy another cooker, but never another Breville. Terrible disappointment.

short lived appliance
I bought the Breville Multi Chef 3.7L cooker in June 2016 used it about 4 times and wasn't really happy with the results, the times in the manual did not match the results I was getting. The latest effort the cooker turns itself off after a few minutes. A bad buy.

What possible remedy is there for an appliance that turns itself off after a few minutes?

Great when it works but short life span! Second unit busted. AVOID
Like most other reviewers this multichef works fine when it actually works! We used it mainly for rice but have also sautéed onions and cooked risotto with it. Unfortunately this is our second unit and just after 12mths the heating element has stopped working. The previous one we owned lasted under 2 years. We chose to purchase the same one as it matched our other Breville appliances but we will not be purchasing this or another similar Breville appliance again. We probably used it 3 times a week on average.

Great cooker... until it looses its mind...
We've had this cooker for about 3 years and we use it frequently for rice and risotto. It has been great - once we worked out (like others here) that the water quantities in the manual are insufficient, especially for brown rice.
We especially like the risotto function but now the machines seems to have got confused and it turns to "keep warm" every few minutes with rather defeats the purpose of a "stir-less risotto" cooker!
Very disappoint that it hasn't lasted longer than this. Debating whether to get another one or go with something else...

Good... When it worked.
Good to clean, easy enough to use.
Moved house and it was in storage for just under a year- when unpacked the heating plate no longer works.
Very disappointed as I really enjoyed using the multicooker, and have now been sent back into the stone ages of using my stovetop.

Questions & Answers
Nigel M.asked
I just bought a new Breville Multi Chef BRC 600 from Domayne Two days ago . looks good. I have had a Breville Rice cooker before with a steam function . So thinking this New one would be a little better with stainless steel steam tray . But after one use i am so disappointed with it, it steams up ok, but the steam and all the Moisture comes out side of the lid and Runs down all over the side on to the Control Buttons,, do you have any suggestions how to stop this occurring, i thought i had to much water in the tray but not as its was only 30 mm depth of water in the bowl . i was cooking cut up Potatoes, i hope you can have some ideas to fix the problem, or just go back to my old Breville rice cooker Cheers Nigel

We are using the old one as well, (plain old rice cooking) and its still going strong. The Multi Chef BRC600 we only did risottos and rice - didnt tend to overflow but it still died on us after very little use,. Good luck...

Instructions say to add liquid between min. and max indicator on bowl for slow cooking. Can you cook a pot roast for example using just a small amount of liquid so that the roast is not stewing?

Hi May, I am not the Breville expert. I would suggest you contact Breville rather than me.
