Hardly Used-Customer Service Response "These are made in the millions 1 or 2 break its not our fault
Hardly used, Appalling, Should be called "New and Busted". Owned for about 14 months stopped working after about 10 months. As with other customers the light comes on and nothing else happens. Customer service was worse than the cooker...spoke over me and basically told me to go away...”These cookers are made in the millions and you cannot hold us responsible for 1 or 2 breaking besides as you’ve owned it for a year it's out of warranty”. They offered to sell me another faulty unit at a discounted price which is mystifying (why would I buy some...Read more
thing that I know already doesn’t work. Having lived in the US for 7 years I saw the inroads Breville had made in the US and was very proud of what they achieved in the US and in Williams Sinoma. I was once very proud of this company. Things change and their corporate culture definitely seems out of alignment with that offered by Williams Sinoma. Owning an Oracle Cappuccino machine and having been really satisfied with that I was really surprised at how I was treated. Sadly next time I have a couple of thousand to spend on kitchen appliances it will not be spent with Breville.

Yep have tried them. Apparently it seems you only expect your products to last 12 months max. Not in warranty = not interested, but we can sell you another one. No thanks, big customer service fail Breville.

Stopped working
We've been using MultiChef for 10months and had used all features very happily. Unfortunately it stopped working, the light is still on but the heating plate is not working.
We still have the warranty but we did not have the receipt because it was a gift from a friend a

Rice to water ratio leaves rice uncooked
The rice to water ratio is definitely wrong, the rice was either hard or dried out (followed instructions). My advice is to experiment with water depending on how you like your rice I almost doubled the water.
Slow cooked meals and whole meats turn out tender, I use this function all the time just place in the cooker and leave for 4 hours - yum!

Not worth the money
The rice cooker stop working after just over a year. The light still on like others people said.
It is cook well and quick when it is working. But for the cost. It is not worth it. I have not use it much and rarely used other function. Not sure if it works good or not. One year old rice cooker break is not reasonable.

Worked for half a year.. Then it died.
We only used this probably few times in a month just to cook some rice then the heating plate stopped working, the light still working fine. Given the price, you'd expect a reasonable longevity. A much cheaper rice cooker would last longer. It's a pity that we've lost the receipt.

Perfect for 5 months and... Died
After buying 2 cheaper short lived rice cookers decided to invest in a more expensive fancier one. In the hope it would last more than a year... Well it was even more short lived than the cheaper ones, 5 months and as my kids have left home not even under intensive usage! Rice cookers should last, just like kettles do.
Utterly disappointed, more useless landfill.

Perfect While under warranty, breaks down suspiciously quickly after 1 year warranty ends
I loved this product, used it approx once every two weeks to batch cook warm hearty meals. I only used the slow cook and rice functions, they worked perfectly for me. Some of the coating began to peel away but wasn't too bad. However at the 13th month (1 month out of warranty), suddenly it doesn't work. The buttons were lighting up like normal, but wold not get hot. My Uncle has had a similar issue with a different Breville product. Seems like the computer chip in some of their products are designed to break pretty quick after warranty despite seemingly no other issues with the product.

Beautiful start, short life
Everything was beautiful at beginning, I cooked rice, slow cooked beef soup, clean was easy too.
Sadly the coating of the inner pot started chipping away just after 12 months, warranty ended too.
It does not justify the price tag, nor the name of this brand either.
I'm not interested in any of Breville products now.

Was great until it died!
I really liked this unit, easy to use and worked efficiently. I purchased it because it was reasonable priced and thought Breville had a pretty good reputation. What also sold me was that it had several different cooking functions. I have regularly used all the cooking functions and made many a delicous meals from this unit.
Unfortunately it's just died after having it for 2 years. Believe it or not I have got a much longer life span from the cheapo rice cookers I've picked up from cheap shops. I'm really disappointed.

Stopped working one month out of warranty.
This is the second Breville Multi Chef I have purchased. I really love making risotto for my kids with this product, it's very easy to use but unfortunately my second Multi Chef has died just ONE MONTH out of warranty. A product like this should last more than 13 months. Very disappointed :(

Not working after 5 months.
I had the earlier model from this, the rice and risotto, and absoultely loved it so bought a Multi Chef for my sister for Christmas. She loved it too, so many great dishes you can cook and so easy to clean but sadly it is not working after 5 months. Very disappointing and I can't find the receipt to take it back for her.

Cheaper rice cooker better!!
Ok Breville so I used to have one of your really basic rice cookers. We used it everyday almost and it cooked rice to perfection for a solid 8-10 years. Faultless. When it finally died I thought time to get an upgrade and went for the BRC 510. On first use I followed the instructions to the letter and expected perfect rice as before. Nope the rice came out only partially cooked. We tried it several times until eventually I took it back. I then decided for some odd reason to get the BRC600. I don't know, thinking it had better features like slow...Read more
cooker it would be better and the rice would cook better too. But alas no, it did exactly the same thing. The rice only cooked partially. Even when you leave it on the warm setting as per instructions, the rice was hard on the bottom. So back it went to the shop and I got my refund again. We ended up buying a cheapo rice cooker from Woolworths. It cooks to perfection, just like the old basic Breville one I had. Breville I think you have a too powerful element in these models. They cook the rice too fast so the water evaporates too quickly. Leaving encrusted rice on the bottom with some soft on top. Shame because I really like the old cheaper model.2 comments

Worked great up to 2 years of use....
I dont think a rice cooker of such great expense should stuff up after only 2 years. I accidentally cooked rice on the "slow cook" function and ever since, it wont cook rice. It moves to the "Keep warm" far too quickly. I thought it was possibly a software problem. but there is no hard reset for the device. Breville have offered me a new one at a reduced cost, though to have it stuff up in another 2 years, Im thinking... having a go at a cheaper slow cooker makes more sense.

Appliance good - LID SMASHES EASILY!
Was in Love with my MultiChef, had used all features very happily. Then 2 weeks after purchase, lid slipped off counter on to the laminate floor in my kitchen and smashed in to hundreds of pieces. Have dropped many a lid before (from much cheaper appliances), and not once have I had one break. Surely this had to be a fault I thought. Contacted Breville, they said was not covered under warranty, but would happily send me a new one, if I parted with $32.00 :( Also said I would have to wait over a month for one to be available. Very unhappy customer, will not be purchasing any appliances from Breville again if that's how shoddy they are. What a waste of $109!

Amazing machine
Had this machine two months and have cooked curry, soup, rice and risotto in it. They are some of the tastiest, easiest meals I have ever made. So easy to clean too. Don't know how it will be in a year or two but ATM I can't recommend highly enough.

Excellent slow cooker
I love this slow cooker. As a working mum, I love being able to cook when it suits me and not rush when I get home from work. It's wonderful how the appliance allows you to sear inside the cooker rather than use a separate pot for this step.
The only feature missing is a timer.
The only element I'm a little disappointed with is the aluminium-non-stick insert. I'm super vigilant with my insert, I only use the implement provided with the product to scoop food out of the slow cooker, but in spite of this after 1 year of using the slow c...Read more
ooker 1-2 times per fortnight, it is still scratched and damaged. This makes me concerned that the non-stick surface is coming off in my food which makes my healthy meals a lot less healthy. So the next slow cooker I buy will have a timer and a ceramic insert so that I avoid these issues.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Use it most nights, perfect product
We have used this almost every night for 2 years, we LOVE it! From steaming veggies, cooking rice, slow cooking with searing option and risottos. Its brilliant. I have recommended to by mum and she also has one which she uses all the time. If this product was to ever stop working, I would go straight out and buy another!

Died just after 1 year of use
We really liked its functionalities as it could be used for slow cooking, risotto and rice. But just after 1 year of use it suddenly stopped working. The cooker gets power and all the indicators are lighting up, but not heating. Not worth for just 1 year of use.
Bought from Myer.

So convenient!
So let me make this clear - it's the Better Half a.k.a Missus who primarily cooks in the home. All the feedback here is based on her experience and my taste buds :) After a bit of research and feedback from reviews here, we decided to take the plunge as the deal was too good to resist.
We primarily cook Indian cuisine but are big fans of its risotto and rice cooking modes. One of the most challenging aspects of Indian cuisine is cooking legumes & lentils; like chick pea curry (chhole), dal makhani (black lentil dal http://bit.ly/1MORMoi), re...Read more
d kidney beans (rajma) etc. The key to cooking these pulses / lentils / legumes is to wash them in warm water and soak overnight then pop into the cooker the next morning before you head to work (ideally). When you return - you shall be rewarded with creamy delicious dals! - Chicken curries are great with thigh pieces - the recipe in the book is pretty good and accurate. - the sear / saute function works really well - easy to get the caramelisation on the chicken before cooking the curry. - Risotto cooks perfectly - so many times we've come home from work and just put the risotto on - perfectly cooked every time with mushrooms et all. - we've tried steamed veggies for our 2 year old and she has loved it. Why did I rate it 4 stars instead of 5? Simple, the pan material is quite thin, literally no thicker than a standard rice cooker and the non-stick coating too is quite thin. We tend to be extra careful when hand washing the pot as it's thin and we don't want it to get bumped in the sink.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Questions & Answers
Nigel M.asked
I just bought a new Breville Multi Chef BRC 600 from Domayne Two days ago . looks good. I have had a Breville Rice cooker before with a steam function . So thinking this New one would be a little better with stainless steel steam tray . But after one use i am so disappointed with it, it steams up ok, but the steam and all the Moisture comes out side of the lid and Runs down all over the side on to the Control Buttons,, do you have any suggestions how to stop this occurring, i thought i had to much water in the tray but not as its was only 30 mm depth of water in the bowl . i was cooking cut up Potatoes, i hope you can have some ideas to fix the problem, or just go back to my old Breville rice cooker Cheers Nigel
1 answer
We are using the old one as well, (plain old rice cooking) and its still going strong. The Multi Chef BRC600 we only did risottos and rice - didnt tend to overflow but it still died on us after very little use,. Good luck...

Instructions say to add liquid between min. and max indicator on bowl for slow cooking. Can you cook a pot roast for example using just a small amount of liquid so that the roast is not stewing?

I am on to my 2nd multi chef and do love them but about to get my 3rd it seems as the same fault seems to happen....after a period of time (about the time of the warranty) it will turn on and light up and make beeps when i press the buttons, but not heat up! (i see this described above also). Is this a common fault? why is this continuing to happen?
