I have a large hard wood floor that was stained with mahogany and finished with a water based polyurethane coating. The majority of the floor is still well coated however, some high traffic areas have worn through the poly as well the stain. As a result I will be doing some restoration in these areas, retaining and attempting to blend the color.
My question can I apply your cfp product directly to the newly stained area as well as over the existing polyurethane. Reading about your product I would think the answer is yes.
Any advice would and guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Regards Gary

Cheers - Team Cabot'sHi I'm having trouble with this varnish over pine flooring. It went on beautifully but after two weeks when we cleaned it (with very minimal water) it went cloudy. This cloudiness hasn't gone away after another two weeks. It's very disappointing. We used satin in the bedrooms and gloss in the living but had the same trouble with both. Any idea why it's still absorbing water and going cloudy? The temperature has been over 25 degrees for the whole time. Will this cloudy appearance go away?
After several months ours is STILL cloudy and has a satin finish. Would not recommend this product to anyone. Extremely disappointing!

Hello Marion,
We don't recommend applying the CFP using a spray gun. ...
Read moreThe reason for this, is that a spray gun will only achieve a thin coat - and we cannot guarantee the overall durability as we do not know the film thickness. Using a pad applicator will disperse the correct film thickness the coating needs to ensure the durability of the coating for a walk on surface. I have got cypress pine timber floor,
Is cabot's cfp floor water based the right product for this timber?
Hi Guss,
Thanks for your question! The Water based CFP does sound like it would be the right product for you! ...
Read moreThe Water based CFP does have a non-yellowing formula - so the coating will not yellow over time, unlike an Oil based flooring coating. If your flooring is bare timber, take a look at the preparation instructions below; Sand the surface smooth using 180 - 240 grit sandpaper. Sand only in the direction of the grain. Remove all traces of sanding dust If the timber has been coated before, take a look at these preparation instructions; Thoroughly clean the surface with Cabot's Floor Clean and allow to dry. Apply one coat to a small test area. Allow to dry for 3 hours. Press sticky tape firmly to the surface and pull off quickly. If the coating comes off, sand back further to a sound surface. If the coating does not come off, you will be fine to coat! If you would like to discuss this further, or need any advice on an up-coming project, give our Help & Advice team a call on 1800 011 006. Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 8:30am to 3:00pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm AEST. Cheers - Team Cabot'sHi, I done the first coat last night in my bedrooms and hallway. How long do you recommend leaving it before I can walk on it to apply the second coat?
Good Morning Rocky,
We recommend a minimum of 3 hours in between coats for the water based CFP, 12 hours if you're using the Oil based CFP. ...
Read moreFor best results, lightly sand in between coats to remove any grain raise using 240 grit paper. Remove all sanding dust. Apply the 2nd & 3rd coats as above. As for being able to walk on the coating, if you're using the water based CFP, you can walk on the flooring with light traffic after 16 hours after the final coat. Resume normal traffic 72 hours after the final coat. If you're using the Oil based CFP, light foot traffic a minimum of 24 hours after the final coat, and normal foot traffic a minimum of 72 hours after the final coat. For both the Oil based and Water based CFP, the full cure time is 7 days. For this reason we recommend replacing any furniture after this timer to avoid indenting or damaging the coating during this curing process. What is the cause of this?
Hi Stivat,
No need to be sorry at all! ...
Read moreThe cloudiness in the coating does indicate that moisture is present in the coating. This will eventually go away as the coating fully cures - which can take a minimum of 7 days. You can help speed up this process and remove the cloudiness by using a hairdryer on the lowest heat setting - making sure that you keep the hair dryer moving so you don't damage the coating. This will help any moisture evaporate out of the coating. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call on 1800 011 006. Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 7:00pm, Saturday 8:30am to 3:00pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm AEST. Cheer - Team Cabot'sHi,
I have just finished 25 tables for my restaurant and found that most have a cloudy white finish in some areas which doesn't look good. How do I get rid of this cloudinesss?
Hi Mark,
This could possibly moisture trapped between the coating or the timber. ...
Read moreYou could try using a hairdryer to try to draw out the moisture. It is important to have the hair dryer on a low heat setting and keep the hairdryer moving. As the coating gets warm, the white marks should start to disappear as the moisture evaporates. Alternately and provided the surface is fully cured (Which does take 7 days), you could lightly wipe the area with a clean rag or cotton wool with methylated spirits. The methylated spirits may draw out the moisture from the coating. The cloth must only be damp, and you must wipe gently, otherwise you run the risk of damaging the coating. However that being said, the cloudiness should subside by itself once the coating fully cures. If you would like to discuss this further, give our Help & Advice team a call on 1800 011 006. Hi DJ,
Thanks for your question. Unfortunately the CFP cannot be tinted. ...
Read moreHowever to change the colour of the timber prior to coating you can stain the timber with the Water based Interior Stain and Varnish to the desired colour depth. Once the stain is dry, you can then coat over the top with 3 coats of the water based CFP to create that durable walk on surface. If you choose to stain the timber first - make sure the timber is bare and un-coated so the stain is able to penetrate the timbers surface. Hi Candice,
Thanks for your question. If you would like to change to the Oil based CFP you will need to sand the flooring back with 180-240 grit sandpaper first to a dull surface. ...
Read moreWe do recommend to do a small test area first to ensure the coating will adhere well. Apply one coat to a small test area. Allow to dry for 12 hours. Press sticky tape firmly to the surface and pull off quickly. If the coating does come off, you will either need to sand the timber back to a bare surface or continue on with the water based CFP.
