Don't understand the hype
We honestly don't understand the hype around the Ergo Baby. We bought it as it was the highest reviewed carrier and are massively disappointed with it; it is not easy to use, it is hot and uncomfortable for the baby. Also, when we bought it, the makers claimed no front facing baby carriers could ever be safe, yet they released one just one month after we purchased this one, leaving me serious doubts of the technology behind the Ergo Baby
Uncomfortable, hot, not easy to use, expensive

A little disappointed
I bought the Ergo Baby carrier after all the great reviews, but I am rather disapointed with it. The first thing is that it advertises it can be usd in 3 positions - front, hip and back. The only practical position I have found is using it on the front. Trying to get the carrier and your baby into the other 2 positions is pretty complicated and requires some contortion skills. But even in front position, my baby doesn't sit well. She doesn't look comfortable (she is around 6.7kg) and the carrier just seems way too big. It might be that its bett...Read more
er suited to bigger children, but the manufacturers should just say that instead of trying to force the issue with smaller babies. I also don't like the way the straps are arranged - like you need a third arm to tighten straps. I have a bjorn and my little one is much happier in it as it can be fully adjusted to suit any size, and she can also be forward facing. The bjorn is, in my opinion, a superior design. It has a hood and is easy to carry in a bag Not well suited for smaller babies, and hip / back wearing is complicated

Funny! Must depend so much on the body of the wearer and the baby. We found the Baby Bjorn terribly uncomfortable and it never seemed to work for our baby either. Only ever wore it at airports when hands free was worth the discomfort.

Like it, but consider the durability and lack of pocket.
After starting out with a Baba Sling, my newborn quickly stacked it on and at around 3 months old I needed a new carrier. My back was killing me as all the weight bearing for the sling was in my shoulders. So after asking around, many friends and family recommended the Ergo baby carrier with the advice of 'Go for the lightweight model so that bubs doesn't get too hot!' So when I hit the shops, I went looking for the lightweight version. Unfortunately for me I went completely on the knowledge of the sales staff when they advised that the Sports ...Read more
was the only lightweight carrier (it isn't!) in the range. I'm kicking myself as now as the store assistants extent of knowledge on the Ergo baby carriers revolved around reading the side of the box (derr I can manage that myself!). I managed with with infant insert with my small bub, which was cumbersome. As you need to lie your baby flat to safely place them into the insert. My baby felt quite secure once in there, but it was such a task to get them in there especially when you are transferring them from the car. When the additional padding of the infant insert was not longer required I used a rolled up towel under his backside to boost him higher in the carrier until her grew large enough to fit without it. I've happily used this carrier over the last 3 months as my son is now 6 months old. The weight bearing and comfort are all there for me. So why am I so disappointed? The fabric quality is a complete let down. It attracts every tiny piece of dust and fluff to it and looks shabby within minutes of being out of the box. The waistband has pilling on the inside and the band itself has a small roll (i.e. Is no longer firm) in the foam, resulting in it looking out of shape. It's only been in use for 3 months!! I'd hardly call myself a heavy user either. I feel cheated not having a pocket too, that would be so handy. I sincerely doubt that it will see me through to a second child too, if it's showing such signs of wear at 3 months old. If I had my time over again I'd go for the more sturdy canvas models. The sports doesn't justify it's price tag and is very much inferior to the other carriers in the range. Breathable slit on babies back to avoid over heating. The fabric quality doesn't stand up to it and there is no pocket for bits and pieces.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

We love our Ergo! Best thing we bought
I used my Ergo with my son until he was nearly 2 - He was big and I only stopped putting him in there becasue he just got too heavy after a while for my little self. It was the easiest, most useful and comfortable for both my son, my big husband and small-framed me. Easy to adjust each time another person used it. I loved the way my son was positioned in it, he never complained of being uncomfortable in it like he did in other carriers, in fact often he went to sleep, even when he was older. It rolls up quite small for storage and carrying too,...Read more
my friend used to watch him while I worked, I would get home from work, change into my running clothes and jog over with the ergo rolled up in one hand, and walk my son home on by back with it. It is the best carrier we owned, and we are big into baby-wearing and did lots and lots of trekking with it. We used it tons for years, and it is still in fantastic condition. Get one, you won't regret it! comfortable for all involved, excellent value, passes the test of heavy use and time! babe can't face outwards, but that wasn't a biggie. Good Product and good quality
I've bought the ergo baby carrier 3 years ago for our 1st daughter my husband and I used it, also with our 2nd was great as the oldest was on the shopping trolley and bub in the ergo baby, for our third bub I've been using it as she goes to sleep on it.
One of the best purchased that we had done for our kids.
Easy to wear and adapt

Good for smaller/normal sized babies. Not long enough in the back for chunkier babes/toddlers
I have baby-worn all of my children, the eldest now being 17! In that time I have used many carriers, both soft structured carriers and wraps.
The Ergo is a very good quality carrier. It worked very well for my very petite middle child and I genuinely think the Ergo is good for what it does. I also wan to point out that the back is reasonably short if you have a chunkier baby/toddler. My youngest was able to lean backward and make it very uncomfortable for me. I ended up needing to source a custom made carrier for comfort while carrying my big baby.

Comfy and cozy
This carrier was the best suited for myself and our little one
our bub seemed most comfortable in the ergo carrier and it was the easiest for myself to put on when it's only me
Now that bub is bigger i wish it had a world view at the front but apart from that I preferred it over stoke and baby Bjorne
Comfy easy to use Bubs looked most comfortable
Very long straps

The BEST baby carrier by far!!
After borrowing an Ergobaby from a friend, I just had to have one! My newborn would not sleep very well in her bassinet or baby swing, but in the Ergobaby she would happily sleep for hours. This carrier has been an absolute lifesaver as I have still been able to play with my toddler and do housework whilst wearing it. Love this carrier!
Bought this carrier with the infant insert when bub was 6 weeks old. Whilst I didn't love the insert (wasn't always sure she was positioned right) she loved it immediately and was the only way I could get her to sleep sometimes. It did not place any strain on my back & I'm only little & she is a big bub so I was very happy with this fact.
Honestly, using this I didn't need the pram for the first 6 months especially because we live inner city so you don't have to worry about stairs or escalators like you do with a pram. Now at 12 month old we still comfortably use it.
Just about everything!
It is expensive & wasn't confident with the infant insert.

Disappointed as heard so many good things about it
Purchased the Ergo from Toys R Us and regret buying it as the carrier is uncomfortable. I was told later that I should have purchased the original but no one at the store could offer any advise nor does the packaging specify that the Sport is suited for larger people. In addition, the infant insert is horrid, my baby screamed each time she was put in it and only tolerated the carrier without the insert. Waste of money, now buying a Beco Butterfly, as baby loves back carry, and prefer something more secure when back carrying.

This carrier is the best I've tried. It carries the weight of the baby on the hips, not the back, so it's very comfortable. After watching a YouTube video, I found it easy to put on and remove. It was useful for quick trips to the shops. Also, I found it useful for juggling two kids at preschool activities. I could keep up with my older son while keeping my baby strapped to me. is mouth instead. They were just at the right level for him to do that. There is a zipped pouch on the front that I found very handy for keeping items such as my purse and mobile, and I would keep my baby's dummy and bib. I didn't use it on my back as that looks hard so I didn't try. I didn't use the newborn insert either (which I didn't purchase) as I found it unnecessary. The only negative is the price but I guess it's worth it for the convenience. I waited till it was on sale. Very comfortable for both mum and baby, feels safe, very handy A little pricey1 comment
Hi, I'm just wondering that if you get the infant insert, how heavy/what age was your baby when you started using the ergo? Any issues with getting a newborn in there, particularly with poor neck control? Thank you.

One of my best buys!
I love my hugabub but I needed a carrier that can been used on your back. I bought this carrier second hand and it's brilliant! My little guy is 18mo and 10kg and he LOVES it. It doesn't put ANY weight on my back, all the weight is on the hips. I will definitely be buying the infant insert for when we have another bub. It's probably pretty expensive brand new but worth every cent, and there are definite bargains out there (I got mine for $30!).
light weight, comfortable for me and bub, extremely ergonomic.

Not great for a 6kg baby
I bought the Original Bundle of Joy and happily used it in the newborn phase with the infant insert. It was great, I could have bub sleeping in there while hanging out the washing or taking a walk, and it provided reasonable back support (though not as good as my plain fabric wrap sling). It is easy to use, especially if only one person is using it and you can keep the straps and buckles at your preferred setting. I liked the head cover feature, which I used for baby's sun protection.
Unfortunately when my little one reached 5 or 6 kgs ...Read more
he no longer fit into the infant insert and is too small for the carrier without it. It is quite wide across the front and his little legs have to stretch way wide to fit him in - he only lasts a few minutes before he starts crying, and when I take him out there are red marks behind his knees. I tried elevating him with the cushion from the infant insert but it didnt help and he was still uncomfortable. Very disappointing to have purchased this expensive product and now not be able to use it. For now it has gone back in the box and put away until he is older and then I will try it again. My husband was also very disappointed about it and emailed Ergobaby to find out how they recommend we fit our 6kg bub in it. He has had no response. Comfortable to wear and easy to use. I've had the Ergo since my son was born (he's now a year old) and it has served us well. I suffer from a bad back so especially once he got older (10kgs) I used the Ergo instead of plopping him on my hip (which caused my hips to pop out and throws my back out). As a newborn he would sleep in it (using the infant carrier) all the time. Love it!

Have ergo, will travel!
After buying just about every carrier on the market (baby bjorn, hugabub, mini monkey, etc) and my son screaming the suburb down in protest, my sister lent me her ergo with infant insert, as a last ditch attempt to get outdoors... My son was 8 weeks old and hadn't left the house without (many, many, many) tears in either a pram, carrier or car seat and i was suffering from cabin fever!!!
The ergo was instantly agreeable... Its comfortable cotton fabric, padded shoulder straps, ability to be adjusted, sun hood and support under the baby's bot...Read more
tom... My son cuddled up to my chest for ten minutes, then fell asleep, while i walked. A key feature of the ergo is its storage pockets... I can carry two nappies, some wipes, a dummy, keys, credit card and some money, leaving me with absolutely nothing in my hands at all... I've done a two hour coastal walk and lunch with this carrier and have felt completely comfortable in the knowledge that i will not be caught short. These storage pockets are compact but secure and my son isn't bothered by them at all. It gets warm after a long walk and i am certainly sweaty, as there is not a lot of air flow, but i found the same problem with other carriers (when your baby is rested snugly against you for over an hour, you'll both get warm!!!). Perhaps the padded cotton retains moisture a little longer than other carriers, but i haven't found it to be a problem... I just wear natural fibres, take it off and stand up for a few minutes. Summer would be tough, but it's not a fair criticism of the ergo, as nothing could make you comfortable with a baby snugly tucked in against you in summer! Parenting is not a glamourous showcase of high fashion! I love the ergo... My son can turn his head and watch the world, while feeling secure against me. There are a range of different carrying positions, which are all comfortable... I have found that my neck is a lot less sore and strained after using it for a few months.2 comments

ERGObaby Organic Designer Baby Carrier
We've been looking for a higher reviewed baby carrier and something lasting. We initially wanted the ERGObaby Performance, however the store in question ran out of stock and we ended up with the Designer version in the black and white spots which I'm sure might suit my partner's needs, however on a bloke like myself, its not that great.

wonder why. My partner wished that the baby carrier allowed the baby to be facing forward instead of front to the holder, but have stated that all ERGObaby carriers don't have that option available. When we purchased this carrier, the Mothercare staff were trying to remove the security tag off the packaging, only to find out that we can't use this product yet as we will have to go back to the store to have the security tag physically removed from the product itself. As it wouldn't be a good thing to set off alarms at almost every single shopping retail outlet. We didn't have to buy the infant insert, as our child is quite tall and heavy in size even though just surpassing 3 weeks. The intention of having to use this baby carrier when we travel overseas in a month or so instead of having to carry around a large pram. Easy to put on, versatile and practical Don't like the colour, an expensive investmentSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Yes but only when the baby's neck is strong enough. Maybe from at least 4 months old onwards depending on how strong your bub is.

I’ve been given an Ergobaby carrier but it’s an old one so I have no idea which model it is and if I need to buy an insert for it. The only information I have is that it’s red and has the old Ergobaby logo. Any help?

Karrie H.Ergobaby
Hi Matt and Sarah - due to the carrier being older and having the old Ergobaby logo you will need an insert to wear your baby from newborn (3.2kg). If you want to be 100% sure before you purchase the infant insert please feel free to send a picture of the carrier to [email protected] and our team can verify your carrier make and also help you to purchase an insert.
Our carriers are made to last so we hope that you and your baby will make many happy memories in your 'new' Ergobaby carrier!

Karrie H.Ergobaby
Hi Alana, Congratulations on the birth of new bub, very exciting times for you and your family. Thankyou for choosing Ergobaby as your carrier of choice. What a generous offer from your friends - an Ergobaby carrier is definitely a great gift idea!
To answer your question, both the Omni 360 and the Omni 360 Cool Air essentially work the same. However, the biggest difference is the type of fabric they are made from. We would describe the Omni Cool Air as a great all season carrier as it is made from a moisture wicking fabric as well as being designed with mesh panelling. This ensures that the Omni Cool Air is a carrier which will help keep yourself and baby cool in the Summer months. A lot of our Ergobaby parents describe the Omni Cool Air as being more comfortable to wear throughout summer.
As with any new product bought into the market there are always tweaks, adjustments and improvements made on exsisting designs. The Omni Cool Air is the newer of two to hit the shelves. So whilst the fabric is the main difference between the two, the Omni Cool Air has been designed with an improvement to the way you are able to change the carrier from facing baby in to facing baby out. We have replaced buttons with easy to use sliders. Some of our Ergobaby parents find these easier to adjust than using the buttons.
In regard to the difference in height between yourself and your husband, this won't be an issue with whichever Ergobaby carrier you choose. Both are designed to be easily adjusted to fit all body types. We have a collection of YouTube videos you can watch online which will give you a clear instructions on how to adjust the carrier to be the right fit for each of you.
Hoping this helped you make your decision. Our biggest piece of advice would be to go into one of our authorised retailers and try each of the carriers on with bub. This way you will be able decide which one feels like the right one for you and your husband. Good luck with your decision.
