Out of five one snapped this week
Evo1 PrevailOne blade just snapped off and hit the wall before falling to the floor. Fortunately my wife who was in the room escaped unhurt. I got them installed in 2010 they were working okay until this happened. I am not sure if Beacon Lighting can replace it, of course at my cost, through their electrician.

Fixing the Remote Receiver
Evo1 PrevailMechanically the fan has performed beautifully for 4+years, super quiet and vibration free. However the light has been malfunctioning, turning on and off randomly. The receiver is expensive to replace out of warranty so I investigated for myself. Turned off the power and removed the receiver unit (the small white plastic box secured by two small screws and two plugs) Opened the receiver box to find the circuit board embedded in grey silicon rubber type padding. The board has two very obvious large electrolytic capacitors (50Volt, 1000 uF) and

The local electronics shop had replacement capacitors for about $2.50 each. 20 mins work had the old capacitors desoldered from the board and the new ones installed(I replaced both just for economy of effort), paying careful attention to polarity. I replaced receiver unit in fan and the light now works perfectly. Total cost $5 plus 20-30mins at the workshop bench and a trip to the electronics shop. Hopefully the fan won't throw a blade like many have reported but we mostly use it on low speed only.Looks great and I like it, but a few practicalities I don’t love
Evo 1 / 2 / 3I bought two fanaway Evora’s last year. They look great and I do like them. What I don’t love is that they are quite noisy when you turn the fan off and the blades shut away with a BANG - this isn’t great in the middle of the night when people are sleeping.
Also the lowest setting is still quite fast - probably because the blades use centrifugal force to open. It’s too strong when you just want some light airflow in the room.
Hi, thanks for your feedback and you are correct that there will be noise when the blades retract and settle back in once turned off however this should not be a bang, but a slight noise as they need

Whisper quiet they say?
Evo1 PrevailInstalled 3 fanaways in Nov 2014 2 evo prevail and 1 endure. 1 prevail was faulty & replaced by Jan 2015. Their whirring noise gets progressively louder over time, speed selection also goes. 4 years & out of warranty only solution/support received is to buy new ones. Why would you?

Evo2 EndureWe have 5 Evo2 Endure fans through our home, all installed by a licensed electrician. How these fans have performed over the last few years has been acceptable, but this opinion has now changed. 2 Days ago one of the fans suddenly had a blade brake off and fly across the room. We are too worried to turn on the other fans, at this very hot part of the year. We went to Beacon Lighting with this and they have tried to get in contact with Fanaway for the last 3 days with no reply to either phone calls or emails. We have had many types of fans

Poorly designed control switches.
Evo2 EndureRecently purchased 3 x Evora and 2 x Evo2 Endure fan/light units. The control switches are not standardised across the fanaway range, one style has a fixed plate and the other unit has a removable cover plate to aid with painting. Both units have combined light and fan control switches, however with separate light switches already existing in the home, a 'spare' blank cover plate that has a fan control only option should have been a normal part of the installation kit for both unit styles, particularly given the cost of the fan/light units.

Fanaway
Evo1 PrevailWell it does work. That is true. But very soon after a year use. (One summer). It started to clunk when blades retracted. Clunking has is still the same three years later. Didn’t register my receipt with Beacon so they can’t do anything. AND... the cover has gone yellow!!! The other light in the same room hasn’t turned yellow, but the fan cover is so yellow it’s embarrassing it looks a hundred years old, and they don’t make this model anymore. It was very expensive as well when we bought them. So what can we do.

Loud closing noise
Evo1 PrevailWe have three of the fans and at first they were fantastic but we have had all of the same problems as mentioned by other users except for the blades flying off. Some problems were fixed under warranty. My problem is the very loud noise when the fan retracts. At first it was a quiet noise that you hardly noticed but now it is so loud it makes you jump.

Dangerous - Turned fan on and blade came off
Evo1 PrevailJust got home today and turned my fan on in the kitchen and walked away. Lucky I wasn't standing at the sink because I heard this alright crash and very loud clunking noise. Came into the kitchen and blade had snapped off and landed on the kitchen bench. Luckily I wasn't standing near the kitchen sink. I also had the covers go yellow and got them replaced at a cost just 2 months ago. I also had to replace the ballast on them as the old one's they do not make anymore, so of course I had to pay for a electrician to come and do it. I love the look of them, but most likely will not get them again.

Can't reverse our retractable fans
Evo2 EndureWe bought 2 very expensive retractable fans from Beacon but we can't find where to reverse them. So when our aircon is on we turn them off as in summer they make the room hotter !! How ridiculous !! So we can only use them in the winter to help circulate the heating ! How ridiculous - our $50 Bunnings jobs are way superior - can't believe it!!!

Evo1 PrevailPurchased 5 fans and have been very happy with the stylish fans in the first 18 months. Unfortunately 2 of them now have a problem. One doesn't turn on or off and the other one was stuck in the on position over the weekend. When I rang Beacon Lighting's Warranty department, like most of the reviews here, they have advised that the Receiver is most likely gone. While the Fanaway Evo series of ceiling fans with clear, retractable blades sounds innovative and chic, reviewers discover it has a dangerous design flaw.
Potential to cause injury
At least six reviewers were in the room when the fan blade snapped off and fell to the ground. Sometimes the hurtling blade hit and damaged furniture or walls along the way. In one case the blade collided with a lamp in a child’s bedroom and then proceeded to hit her in the face, leaving her with marks and bruises.
Other reviewers reported these problems with the Fanaway Evo models:
- The fan often simply stopped working or slowed down to the point where it became ineffective
- The noise level was difficult to put up with, even with the fan on a low speed
- The casing/ underside of the light discoloured over time, becoming yellow
- Overall this was an expensive fan to maintain, as reviewers racked up bills to replace faulty remotes, receivers, ballasts and bulbs
- Once the product fell out of warranty, there was often no respite from the main retailer, Beacon Lighting.
