Tough piece of machinery
Bought my Mulcher second hand off ebay and have been happy about my purchase ever since. Tough and robust I have fed in branches way too big with 3 people feeding them in for 2 days continuously. Keep the blades sharp and it just keeps on going. Blades are expensive but you get what you pay for. They last a long time and can be sharpened and turned around with a second cutting edge which means they last double the time. Needs a strong arm to get the flywheels spinning to start but starts easily. I have had it for 4 years now with out any issues, Other machines would be wrecked and worn out with the amount of use i have given it, but I expect to have this machine for years to come.

Robust high volume chipper.
Had the Piecemaker for 5 years and used it for many hours. Makes great mulch. Yes you need to correctly feed the waste into thehopper to avoid clogging. I also keep a pile of consumable sticks on hand to prod any waste that has not moved through the chipper. All in All a great help in converting garden waste to usable mulch on our 1 acre garden. Easy to start when serviced annually and the petrol is not stale. Must chip green and non hard wood. I never try to chip dry and hardened dead oak branches. The hardened oak will be chipped but the blades will blunt very quickly. Recommend the Piecemaker where you have a large garden.

Not even first tank of gas. Fail
My son did not get through the first tank of gas. Then he just stuck it in his shed. Dads a mechanic so a couple of years Had strip it all down repair motor and fix spots of rust. Runming good now. Manual needs a decent exploded view of engine and chipper. Included bolts and washer sizes.

Handy to have.
It is great to have around to get rid of small branches and such things to make mulch. Briggs and Stratton motor starts easy blades easy to sharpen or replace. Has a good catcher I found it easy to take place to place not to bad on fuel simple to use. I have borrowed this machine.

Greenfields Shredder, the piecemaker.
Motor not the best to start when warm. As for shredding will not feed correctly, sticks with leaves twiggs with leaves, none feed correctly we have cleaned, we have made a push rod but it should self feed as other makes I have used do We purchased the unit from Stanford Mowers on Main Nth rd nth of Adelaide and on demo it looked to be the answer and we liked the robust design ( Purchased by Lockleys Bowling Club S Aust. )

Just an outstanding machine
Very well made, handles palm leaves, green or dry with ease. The briggs and stratton 850 motor is easy to start and service. The cleaning is very simple, just remove 2 wing nuts and brush out, the machine pretty much cleans itself when you dont use the catcher .
It chips to a very usesble, recycleable size.

Really good machine, solid as a rock!
I bought the biggest machine Greenfield made at the time, it was new from a dealer. Since then I've done about 60 hours with it and I really can't fault it. It gets fed on pretty much anything I can't just chop up with a shovel and stick in the compost.
I've put through iron bark branches as big as I could possibly fit through the chipper tube, fed slowly it handles it fine - branches too big in diameter I just rip in half and down they go. Softwood it just devours.
I don't use the catcher, I have a mulch pile where I let it sit for a few w...Read more

Greenfield Chipper - Love It
I bought a used Greenfield chipper with a Honda motor. I have had it for about 2 years. It is a well designed machine that make the job of chipping/shredding a breeze. I believe that this machine is made in Australia. It is strong, sturdy and hardly requires much cleaning after jobs.

Solid but not brilliant
My view is that the machine is solid and strong, but I find the shoot very hard to use, it often clogs and I can't get the branches down into the blades. I am tempted to cut a shoot into the back of the existing shoot which would make it much easier to use. My neighbour has a cheap Ryobi mulcher which gives much better access to the blades, rips through work quicker. Of course it was heaps cheaper but it just keeps on going on and he could buy many for the cost of mine. Mine is more solid and stronger and will last much longer but his purchase decision may have been better.

Replacement Parts
Try as I may to buy Mulching Blades from multiple Greenfield dealers and even tried head office without success.
Keep getting the run around.
Four (4) Days of phone calls and waiting for phone calls without luck.
What the hells going on?
If I could get enlightened as to get a set...even after market would do!

One of my favourite tools!
I bought one in 2002 when I lived in Toowoomba. I mulched through two separate gardens (jacaranda trees, oleanda, pittosporum..... Took anything up to 50 mm diameter). Moved back to NZ with the Piecemaker, went through two more overgrown, neglected gardens, plus my daughters first garden. The mulch makes a fantastic soil conditioner, so I get all the smaller clippings from my neighbours. it is now 2015. The paintwork is still great (except in the cutting area), have never had a problem starting or operating the "beast". I agree with the c...Read more
omments regarding the chute - it tends to block unless you load it lightly. while putting your hands into the chute is not a great idea, there would be few people who could get their hands near the blades. On my model, the exhaust is on the same side as the branch chute - would be nice if it was on the other side. If your chips are getting long and "twiggy", it is a sure sign that the blades need sharpening. I sharpen them myself using an oilstone and simple jig to get the angle right - a therapeutic 30 minutes or so. Don't let the blades get blunt - the chips won't be what they should be, it makes more noise, extra load on the machine and just takes more time and effort to get the job done. I have never blocked the cutter unless I don't empty the bag in time. All in all, a great tool. Compact, well-built and does the business! I would buy another one, but somehow I think it will outlive me - rather depressing thought.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Two failed crankshafts!
I bought the Greenfield 45 Peacemaker about 12 years ago and after about 6 months of light work it became noisy with much clunking at start up. When I investigated the source in the drive assembly, I discovered the main crankshaft bolt was missing!
The unit was returned to the dealer for inspection under warranty.
After spending about $1400 on this Honda GCV160 motor equipped machine I was disappointed with what appeared to be a production quality control issue. Crankshaft bolts are critical and should NEVER just fall out.
With a new...Read more
bolt fitted by the dealer I noted the clunking noise Did not improve and suspect wear had taken place in the drive mechanism. While the machine did a reasonable job of mulching light material it was not inspiring to use due unpleasant clunking noises requiring high quality ear muffs to tolerate the din. I rate the mulching performance at 6/10 with a lot of effort spent with a push stick to feed material through the hopper that regularly blocks up.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good but….
I had a second hand MTD 8hp and the problem with it was that it was hopeless at dealing with anything "green": leaves, palm fronds, banana leaves etc. It just clogs and I'm told that's pretty normal with a flail type chipper.
I decided that I would get a piece maker, based on the reviews I have read. I bought a second hand 10.5 hp machine which has had little use. It is exactly the opposite of the MTD! It deals with all the green stuff really well but is not very good at dealing with hard wood twigs put through the hopper, they are really not ...Read more

Great Machine
I bought this one second hand (2008 model) and it came with the Kawasaki 6.0 HP engine......does a great job on just about everything from palm fronds to hard wood, although the odd long 20-30 twig does get through occasionally without being chipped. Catcher is a great idea, I had an 1995 era Cox 8hp shredder once before which was good but not as good as the Piecemaker nor as fast. Blades need to be in optimal condition like many other brands but at least they are reversible. Kawasaki engine is smooth and runs extremely well although the oil plug location under the engine for oil changes is a pain in the a#$e to drain....side drain would have been easier to work with. Over-all I'm very happy with the machine

Second machine we have purchased. Just brilliant, easy to move around, gets through most cuttings/ prunings easily.Motor starts with a chock set- up.All parts seem to be made with quality components.easy to service, blades can easily be sharpened with an angle grinder. This unit seems to be much quieter than our previous one .We had that one for 10 years without any problems.
Strong engine,easy to move around

Greenfields piece maker starting
I have been content with this machine. We cleared hardwood trees for a house and everything up to 50+mm went through the chipper with no problems. Recently had trouble starting the B&S motor which takes some muscle at the best of times. Realizing my unleaded fuel was probably too old I added a little fuel stabilizer then let it sit for a bit. Started fine. Unleaded fuel apparently starts to go off after six to eight weeks.

w, cannot really recall when. Last weekend after being in storage a couple of months, the rope start refused to budge. It was jammed. Same problem I had with a single cylinder motorcycle years ago. Removed spark plug, one pull to rotate crank, plug in and a couple of pulls.... woohoo! Strong machine. Works hard and cuts everything I have pushed into it. Blades and cutting disk need to be cleaned for storage.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

very disappointed
I bought the bigger motor version. It didn't do palm branches as advertised and Greenfields were not interested. The machine is not easy to move around. .no towing facilities and leaning it over to wheel makes the B&S motor very difficult to start. .the shoot clogs very easily and difficult to clear. Not a user friendly machine and mulch is not good quality with too many long twigs and leaves getting through.
against cheaper imported machine there are no obvious pros at all.
Difficult to maneuver, mulching misses many leaves and twigs. Doesn't do palms as advertised.

Some flaws but best on the market for my needs.
I bought the 11.5HP Greenfield Mulcher after my 20–year–old 8HP MTD reached its use–by date.
Advantages:
It has a catcher (easier than raking processed mulch from the lawn).
Its design is simple, with no belts, and the two cutter blades are easily accessed for sharpening and servicing.
It will handle stringy materials – there are no screens to block or hammers to tangle.
It’s easy to move around the backyard by hand because it’s well–balanced on the wheels.
Its storage footprint is small.
Problems:
Branch chute: Because of the layout o...Read more

Every garden should have one!!
Decided this was the only home garden shredder/ mulcher to buy after reading lots of positive online research and a visit to local dealer. Very powerful 10 HP Briggs & Stratton engine does all garden waste even palm & banana fronds....but make sure they are green. Also I think it is preferable to buy the larger engine as I think they perform a lot better with palm/ banana waste.
Unfortunately had to wait approx 12 months to find a good second hand ones as I couldn't afford to buy new.
Simple design that works, easy to free up a clog if happens or change blades, very heavy duty construction, ample power
Expensive new

Great addition to the tool shed
After trying a cheap Ozito from Bunnings and returning it because it was, frankly, not fit for purpose, I put off buying a chipper for some time - until I came across the Piecemaker. It was one of two brands at the same mower place I bought my blower/vac from and was very impressed by their service. But then, they are selling gear that is supposed to last.
I got the B&S 850 engine because it was easier to start than the 650. Otherwise the smaller engine would have been fine, based on the amount I have to shred (on a normal suburban block).

I am looking for a garden waste shredder, small branches and leaves etc.. Anyone have any ideas for me.. It will be me using it, so It needs to be woman (strong) friendly. I do not read instructions.. (like most women) :)
The Greenfield Piecemaker with a 850 I/C Briggs and Stratton engine is a brilliant machine
and since 2012 they have dropped in price
I have them on special at Mowers Galore Hoppers Crossing for $1299 inc GST
I thought I would update this after three years with the machine.
Still works perfectly. Starts easily and cuts everything.
I had to put some quite large eucalypt branches through it in Spring - down ... Read more

I have a 18 month old Piecemaker with 11.5hp B&S. extremely difficult to start. Heavy to pull start and will not catch. I have only used it on about 6 occasions due to the problem of starting. It is advertised as easy to start, no prime and no choke, however it seems it needs it. Does anyone else have the same issue? I am at the stage of going back to the dealer and have them resolve it. It is also a heavy pull and my wife would have no strength to get it going.

I have the 8.5 horse power version with the Briggs and Stratton motor and mine is also heavy to start. Almost to the point of needing someone to put a foot on the opposite side while I pull start. However it will start easily once I get some momentum up with no priming just setting the throttle on start.
thanks, have tried that. Success this morning. Used Start ya Bast&*$ and it went first go.

My unit has a Briggs and Straton engine 8.5hp and the drain plug is a stud at the bottom of the engine on the side directly beneath the dip stick. Underneath the petrol tank. It has a square head. I used Penrite 20w-60 Cheers Graeme
