Who needs a panda when you have this. Working as intended
Was looking for a mulcher/shredder to cut down neighbours bamboos that were invading my yard. After looking around decided on the Ryobi RSH2445S model.
Heard people struggle with adjusting the blade but i found no issues with it. Followed the instructions regarding adjusting the blade until seeing metal shavings which then adjust again for 1mm and it worked fine. Cut down 100s of Bamboo sticks/branches with no struggles. If it did struggle, it would rev up the power. Self feeding is also good.
After two month of using, i'm quite happy with it. ...Read more

Does a great job.
I read some mixed reviews of this shredder but I thought I would give it a go.
The first thing is to get the adjustment right, do this with the motor running as when its stopped you can turn it too far and it will jam. Run the motor and look down thu the unit and you can see the gap, get it 1mm or so. Then it chomps and shreds really well. It self feeds (mostly) so there isnt much effort required to use it, I had an older shredder that you had to push everything thru and it was a lot of work to use. This is great.

good, you can see when its filling up. You need to open it and spread the much out every now and then. The tub is a bit flimsy and it can be fiddly to get installed sometimes but this is a minor gripe. The shredder worked great on dry timber and fresh cut stuff. Dry timber made better woodchips as it tended to shatter into small bits whereas some green stuff came out as discs. If you are making chips for the garden dry the timber first. If you just want to shred stuff and chuck it in the green bin then its fine with green stuff. I shredded a lot of big stuff that only just fitted through the inlet and it just chopped it up no problem. Never jammed once. Its a good unit and worth the money.

Does the job
I have previously owned a decent petrol powered chipper/shredder that I put a lots of stuff through but decided this time I wanted something quieter and simpler. The Ryobi does a great job, as other reviews say it chops rather than shreds. Just what I wanted. Works great on long straight stems, branches, canes, palm fronds etc Not so good with crooked or wide splayed branches, you have to cut them into fairly straight lengths so they fit the chute. That’s about it, very pleased with what it can do for the price paid ($399)

A chopper not a mulcher. This does not mulch
It goes well, is very easy to use and a simple way to reduce your tree waist.
What it is:
It’s a chopper. It chips and chops your trees and branches into one to two inche pieces.
What it isn’t:
It’s not a mulcher and really doesn’t shred either.
it works best when the material you’re using is not fresh. I chop my trees and then leave it for a week to dry out. ...Read more
It does chop/ eat trees into a smaller enough size to either dispose of or pile up on the garden. It’s not mulch and it doesn’t shred. It’s bacially and electric cutter which does a job very well. Just don’t buy this if you want a actually garden mulcher.Purchased in December 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse for $449.00.

Doesnt seem to last that long though appears sid
I went to use it yest and it started and did few branches and then it stopped..
That was about three times in total ive used it since we bought it ?about 2yrs ago ..
We bought it from bunnings like we do nearly all tools.
It appears solid.,still looks new but we believe that the quality of items hve really deteriorated since being manufactured in china..
Honestly things seems to break dwn easily and made purposefully to break dwn just after bit of use..

Surprisingly effective!
I bought this to shred three cubic metres of freshly cut Cammelia tree, after my Ozito wouldn't do the leafy stuff. From reading reviews here, I was prepared that green leaves wouldnt be shredded, but was okay with that, as long as it didn't jam it.
Oh my goodness. This thing ate the Cammelia tree like the Langoliers from the Stephen King movie. I started by trimming branches from the main trunk. Absolutely no need. I was feeding entire 2.5m x 40cm braches in there, leaves and all, and it would pull everything in and chew it all up.
It jamm...Read more
ed a couple times in the first 5 minutes, but it's obvious why it jams: leaves ball up above the wheel that pulls down the branches, and instead of pulling them in, they just spin against it. Its easy to fix, throw away the paddle, it makes it worse. Get a stick and poke the side that is pulling down (while it is running) and it unjams usually first go. After I figured that out, the next hour of shredding was completely jam free: If leaves were starting to collect in the hopper, I'd just break off a stick from one of the branches to be shredded and pushed the leaves into the pulling side before feeding the next branch in. Not all branches were turned into chips, but were instead one long chain of big chips that weren't fully cut through. Adjusting the gap might have helped, but as I was disposing of this, and not using it as mulch, it didn't matter to me. The 3 cubic meters fit (just) into a standard sized wheelie bin, so compression ratio is pretty good, about 10:1.Purchased in February 2021 at Bunnings Warehouse for $399.00.

Really good, except...........
My Ryobi Silent Shredder worked perfectly, it shredded all I wanted big and small branches. However, I did wonder why the wood came out 'connected' with remaining bark. When I cleaned it after use, I found the pressure plate which is against the rotating blade was put in reversed, exactly as the manual says be careful NOT to do.
The overall performance was otherwise perfect.

Simply set up and works with little or no mess
My previous mulcher died and one of the things which irritated me was the mess. The Ryobi 'shredder' has a very useful catcher which keeps the mulch in one place and saves having to sweep it all up. It requires minimal assembly. It's fairly easy to move around. It is quite heavy and so having it in a permanent position and taking your material to it may be best for some people.
One thing it wont do well is mulching leafy ends of material. I mulched up Hibiscus branches and it worked a treat until I began to put too many leafy sticks through....Read more
It gets blocked up. Mix up the leafy stuff with the woody stuff and it's fine. Diameter of material is pretty impressive considering the size of the machine. If it fits in the top, it will eat it up. I was mulching stuff 30mm and more without any issues. If it was too large, I used a hatchet to split the wood - I mulch everything! Adjustments are straight forward - if it doesn't cut correctly adjust with the allen key. If it cuts worse, you're turning the wrong way! Safety - the catcher also acts as a safety catch. It wont work unless the catcher is in place and this covers the blades. Price - well, it's not the cheapest around $400 but I find that buying a cheaper version will get a cheaper product which wont mulch up anything larger than your little finger. Save you $200 until you have enough for this and you wont be disappointed.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Unsatisfactory
Product just over two years old stopped working because of a broken cutter blade.
Had very little use and no big stuff. Just out of warranty. There is no service centre within 60 Kim's even though I live in a large regional area.
Now have to wait some time just for a quote to get it fixed in Melbourne.
No more Ryobi products for me but staff at Bunnings were very good.

It’s a mulcher not a shredder.
Great mulcher. Good for shrubs and bushes as well as palm fronds. It’s does not shred leaves it’s not for that. It made short work of 2 dead 8 foot pittosporums and a stinky Prostanthera bush called “Minty”. Good construction and easy to adjust. Recommend this if you have a medium to larger garden.

Adjusting blades
I am sorry to be agreeing with the negative comment here as I am having the same trouble. It seems that other comments have mentioned adjusting the blades. Yes I have read the instructions, but unfortunately I don't understand what I am undoing with the allen key?? Simple suggestions would be gratefully received.
This is likely the user at fault (me). I wasn't going to give a star rating because at present I am hating my new purchase, but if anyone can explain what I am doing with the allen key and how I adjust the blades so I can shred into small pieces I would be more than happy to rate it higher.

Why Didn’t I Buy This Product Years Ago
After reading mainly good reviews about the Ryobi Silent Shredder RSH2445t on ieatwords.com.au I bought this shredder yesterday and gave the thing a real workout today. Heavily pruned four 20 year old camelia trees and apart from a couple of very large branches the Ryobi munched it all with ease. Like others have said the blade adjustment takes a little working out but once I found the right setting the machine never missed a beat. Got tricked once or twice when the shredder would not switch on but one time I had the bin wrong way round and...Read more
other times not locked in. Leaves on branches sometimes clog the cutting shute but a quick poke with a good stick gets them moving again. Also clogs if the bin too full. About 3/4 full then needs emptying. I got all those trees into two wheely bins. Unbelievable!!! I don’t want to think how long the job would have taken cutting and sawring by hand and how many weeks of wheely bins to remove. An excellent product. Why didn’t I buy this product years ago.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Only squashes and mangles
This was useless. Tried for an hour and adjusted blade at all settings. Did not cut or shred anything, had hedge clippings and just flattened and mangled them. Complete waste of 6 hours of my life as 2hr drive to go buy this Product from Bunnings as live rural. I have no idea how anyone could give favourable rating, I was shocked to see people do so. I wanted this to shred plant material to make mulch, did not do anything remotely like that.

This is the ducks guts!
Bought it yesterday and worked it hard today. Once you work out what the stupid Japanese cartoons are trying to explain and you set the paddle depth, it is the best muncher I’ve used. It is very quiet and slowly grinds whatever to a compostable mulch. If you see a negative review I suggest the writer didn’t open the instruction book. Brilliant, buy one!

Very Happy.
Had a large shrub to dispose of so i got a saw and garden shears.
That took a few hours to cut to a manageable pile. Was wondering about chasing up a trailer and taking to recycle yard.
Decided to buy myself the 2400W Electric Silent Shredder and within half hour of screwing it together and plugging it in the pile was gone.

The best
I had a pile of prunings that would have taken weeks to put through the recycle bin and I don't have a trailer. This machine is good and solid. Nearly went for the Ozito but thought this would be more stable and the bin is really worthwhile. All the favourable comments below are true, the only negative comment seems inaccurate, - maybe an adjustment problem.
One year later.....
8 months stores with no use........
Still good, just did a pile of prunings. Didn't block up but then you don't want to go stuffing fine stuff in there - it does long stems and branches even with attached leaves better. Leaves and small stuff should just go straight into your compost bin as they will break down quickly anyway.

Great value for money product
This is a great shredder that will eat anything that fits down its throat and I have not experienced any blockages at all. In reviewing a variety of shredders on line I was concerned with some of the adverse comments regarding large mulch size and incomplete shredding with this product (mangling branches rather than shredding). I brought this up with the bloke at Bunnings and he gave me some good advice regarding blade adjustment. His advice was not to rely on a visual estimation when adjusting the gap between the mulching cog and backing plate...Read more
. Instead, he suggested starting with a generous gap adjustment before switching the shredder on then very gradually reduce the gap until you just start to feel the cog blades touching the backing plate (its a very slight bump, bump, bump). At that point cease further adjustment and lock the adjustment in place as per the instructions. I did that and have been delighted with the results.Similar opinion? Constantly amazed at what it can eat
We purchased this shredder 4 months ago having purchased a property with a poorly maintained garden that needed restoring.
Having looked at a number of smaller units we were advised to get this Ryobi due to it's larger shredding capacity and bin. It has been an excellent choice. Basically any branch that can fit into it will be eaten. The amount of space taken up is way way way less than trying to fit uncut branches into either a skip or the wheely bin.
Dry branches are a little more challenging as they have to be pushed through whereas ...Read more
the freshly cut ones tend to just flex on their way into the shredder. A word of caution - use loose fitting gloves and glasses when using the shredder as branches will twist and turn as they are consumed. You don't need to cut small side branches off first - so long as the branch (or even small tree) can fit into the top slot it will go through! BTW it isn't silent, just not as noisy as a chipper. Certainly not suitable for use before 10am. Final point - the safety switch on the bin actually works - so the shredder won't operate unless the bin is fully pushed in and the slide pushed upwards in full. This is good.Similar opinion? Which shredder is which? Your picture and product code and review descriptions seem to mismatch. Bunnings is advertising two at the moment with $90 between them.

I shredded some branched and then moved the machine with the power on. Now the machine will not turn on. the safety switch is all the way down. Can you comment on how to check for other issues.
Also if it can't be fixed, the machine is built in 2016 and i do not have the warranty papers as the machine was given to me by a friend. what is the warranty on this machine.
Can i take it to bunnings to be repair by Ryobi on a warranty.

Remove the steel front cover . Remove debrua from blades. There is switch in there and if it get to packed with green fine wood like confer then it trips the housing switch. All works well then.

Does anyone know how to get the blade out to sharpen it ? I've looked it up on youtube but they only show 4 small blades were as mine looks like a wheel of blades, and its hard to get to the blades.
