Ryobi Silent Shredder RSH2445T Questions & Answers

I hope the remedy I found will help someone else.
The problem was a faulty start capacitor 60uF 450volt ac, but to replace this I had to dismantle the shredder completely.

Remove the steel front cover . Remove debrua from blades. There is switch in there and if it get to packed with green fine wood like confer then it trips the housing switch. All works well then.

I bought mine at Bunnings. Good value.

Hi there...It’s good on solid sticks dry or green. Better on less bendy stuff as this can get mashed up but not chopped. It deals with leaves on branches fine but not good with just leaves. Autum

Machine broke down just after 2 year warranty ran out. Bunnings and Ryobi dont want to know about it. Outside tool repairers allededly cant get parts for it because Ryobi has an exclusive arrangement with with Bunnings now. The cutting mechanism has failed and we only fed small material into it, nothing larger. Would advise that you buy a different brand.

There is a reset button near the start stop. You need to turn the switch to off then press the button. Then turn back on. Also ensure the safety on the waste bin is engaged. The machine has a good overload breaker so will not have burned out.

You have not set the guide close enough to the rolling cutter. It should all but touch it. When you are setting it look down the spout to see what is happening and you’ll get it. I set mine to touch each other.

It's better with larger prunings but smashes up the smaller stuff for the compost heap well

Thanks Rod. I've since done some serious pruning and it would take a week to feed the huge heap of clippings through any kind of shredder so I'll arrange to take it to the dump as it is.

It may be better if you cut down the plant and let the cuttings dry and rest.Shoving freshly cut vegetation in the Grinder will mangle and clog the mechanism.

Its a safety feature.

No it wont work without the basket in place, the basket is part of a safety system that stops anyone accessing the shredder cog from underneath while it is running. If the basket is not in place and the safety mechanism, that is built into the basket, engaged then the shredder won't start.

Try running the shredder in reverse to get rid of any excess, If that doesn't work, disconnect the power, remove the waste bin and clear the blades by accessing them from underneath the shredder, If that doesn't work you can take the front panel off and completely remove the striker plate and shredding cog for cleaning (power off naturally) then reassemble and readjust blade clearance.
After using the shredder, before I put it away, I run the shredder in reverse then forward for a few seconds to clear excess matter. Only occasionally do I need to clear the excess from underneath and I've never had a problem with caked on matter.

The answer above is perfect. You can remove the blade via the front panel. It is pretty easy.

The other technique I use is to save some dried branches for the end as those will clean it off.

Did the same thing myself! Bunnings can order you a replacement from the Special Orders desk. From memory about $30.

You can also try loosening the blade distance using the side knob and allen key - good luck

I'm sorry I really don't know. I imagine they could be, I've only just got mine so it's still goin great guns, no need to sharpen yet... It's great though I absolutely love my mulcher.

The blades are pretty tough and basically rotate up against the adjustable piece of steel that you can wind in and out depending on your depth of cut wanted. I usually find everything cuts ok wood, leaves, shrubs etc on about 1mm between rotating blade and adjustable steel.
The blades are a rotating drum and not sure yet how they would be "sharpened" but the manual did show how to get into that area thru the front of the unit in case of a jam etc. might be something on Ryobi. I hope mine lasts for some time until it needs that area opened. Oh and don't put the adjustable steel in too far, I actually hit the blades and tripped the safety switch on the house LOL. So just do it in increments not a large adjustment. After I hit steel, it still runs like a dream, these things are pretty hard wearing.

It depends on the plant material, I recently pruned a photinia tree, it crunched the branches really well but the leaves come out looking pretty much the same except they have been squashed which means they break down faster if you're composting. However branches with hard leaves like a bottle brush break up quite well even though the leaves are smaller. It really performs better on harder, drier material. Hope this answers your question.

I would first switch off the power and unplug. Then check the circuit breaker (little round rubber thing next to the on switch) to make sure it hasn't popped. Reset circuit breaker if needed. Then take the front plate off where the cutting drum rotates and check that the clearance is enough to let it turn. It may be way out of adjustment and stopping against the plate which will pop the circuit breaker within a second or 2.
If all this seems ok or needed adjusting, reassemble the unit, plug back in to power and try it again. If still nothing then check your power socket.
If these tips don't help you may have a faulty DOA unit - take it back.

When trying my new ryobi silent shredder for the first it would not run. I checked every thing like Juz and found that the bucket didnt throw the micro switch when pushing the lock up into the locked position. The shredder will not run if this is faulty. Bunnings were good enough to swap buckets so I didn't have to take the shredder back.

How to start what? It has a STOP/START button to turn it on - quite obvious on the top of the machine.

The machine won't start unless the black bin underneath is properly engaged and the lock slides up. The instructions are useless to google up a YouTube video that will probably illustrate it better. Good luck.
