Hello, my shrimp says best if used 2 days after delivery. I've been sick and put it in the freezer on day 3. Is it still ok?

1 answer

GemmaHelloFresh

Hi Michele,

Thanks for your question!

The best before dates aren't black and white so most times the produce will be safe to consume a few days after (freezing definitely prolongs the life) however, it's totally up to you whether you want to eat it or not.

Seeing as we don't know the conditions of it after delivery, we can't 100% confirm or greenlight using it because there are always variables that can come into play here. As mentioned, normally it's okay but some people would prefer to stay on the safe side.

Sorry that we couldn't help any further! If you have any other questions, we're available 24/7 on (02) 8188 8722 or via http://fb.com/msg/hellofreshau.

Shira, I can only comment on the classic plan for two which my wife & I order. The chicken thighs supplied in one of the recipes I have just ordered is 263gms ( about three thighs) we find with the other ingredients, there is always some leftover.

Hi John,

Thanks for submitting your question!

We had some trouble finding "Mumbai Spice Mix" on our Food Info page - did you mean our Mild North Indian Spice Blend?

If so, this spice blend is a combination of dehydrated vegetables (tomato, onion & garlic), spices (coriander, turmeric, chilli, cassia, cardamom, cloves, cumin, pepper, ginger), salt, sugar and maize starch. You might be able to find a similar spice mix in the supermarket if you want to recreate the recipe!

Hi

We have been receiving hello fresh and as the meals are very tasty, lately have been disappointed in the product. last night although the chicken said it was in date the chicken smelt really bad and was unable to be eaten. Hi Nicole,

Thank you for submitting a question on Product Review and we're so sorry to hear about this!

At HelloFresh, it's our priority to ensure the ingredients arrive fresh and delicious to you so we run quality checks in the warehouse before packing your boxes.

If your chicken smells funny when you first take it out of the packaging, this is totally normal. Our meat is sealed fresh with natural preservation technology, called Cryovac, so no air can get in. This can cause it to behave a little differently than what you're used to and at times, the meat can have a confinement odour.

We always recommend taking the meat out of the packaging and letting it sit on the bench for a minute - you can give it a rinse with cold water too if you'd like. It will be safe to consume up to and on the day of expiry! With that being said, if the smell persists, then this is definitely a cause for concern.

We definitely want to report those broken containers too, so can you please get in touch with our Customer Care Team via the below options:

Phone - (02) 8188 8722
Email - [email protected]
Live chat - hellofresh.com.au
Facebook DM - http://fb.com/msg/hellofreshau

Our emails are all answered within a few hours maximum so it's very strange that you haven't had a reply if it was sent to the address above. Be sure to check your junk mail though - sometimes our replies can end up there.

Keira F.asked

How do we tell if the beef is old or new?

1 answer
HelloFresh
Kathryn L.HelloFresh

Hi Keira,

Thanks for reaching out!

Our produce arrives to our warehouse incredibly fresh from our suppliers, and should always stay fresh for the course of the week.

Our meats have different expiry dates and are fine to consume up until, and including, that day. We use Cryovac technology to package a lot of our meat products, which doesn't use any nasties or chemicals to prolong shelf life. For this reason, fresh air is trapped inside and can occasionally give a confinement odour to the meat once opened. Don't be concerned the meat is perfectly safe to consume and this odour will dissipate once the meat is left open in the air for 5-10 minutes before using it.

We recommend you eat your chicken and seafood first, and after that pork and red meats like beef and lamb. If you know you will not be home to cook, or only want to prepare a portion of your meal, all of our chicken, red meat and pork are fine to be frozen as they have not been frozen previously!

If you do not feel safe to consume any of our ingredients, we recommend you don't and report to us immediately about any food safety concerns you may have.

I hope this helps answer your question!

Should I just pop the whole meal bag in the fridge as is?

3 answers
Aurora
Aurora

Depends how many meals you get. If you've got 3 meals that you're going to eat in the next 3 days then putting them straight in the fridge should be fine. I usually get 4-5 meals, so I open the bags and take out the loose veggies (carrots, cucumber, tomatoes, but not the bags of spinach or herbs) and put them in the crisper. If you leave them in the paper bags for too long they'll go soft.

When you get the box there will be meals bags and then a larger bag with cold items like meat and dairy. I usually put the meat in the freezer and put all the dairy items in their corresponding meal bag when I take the veggies out. If I've got a spare 20 minutes I'll quickly mix up any sauces or marinades and pour them over the meat before I freeze to save myself some time later in the week. You can do the same with any salad dressings you need to whip up. If I do that I find I can have dinner on the table in under 20 minutes.

HelloFresh
GemmaHelloFresh

Hi Jess,

Thanks for your question and thank you Aurora for your answer!

We always recommend popping your meals into the fridge as soon as possible. You're more than welcome to keep everything in the bags, however, to ensure everything stays crisp and fresh, the best way to store the veggies is in your crisper drawer - extended contact with the paper bags can cause dehydration which can lead to overripe veggies.

If you have any other questions, our Customer Care Team are available 24/7 on (02) 8188 8722 and are more than happy to help!

I agree with Gemma and Aurora. As I am on my own, when I cut vegetables: like Beetroot; Onions; Garlic, in half, I immediately wrap in Cling Wrap, to stop cross contamination, ready for me the next day to make the other meal. When you get the Box, just make sure you unpack it, especially the Cooler Pack, as suggested by Gemma and Aurora. Good Luck. Enjoy the meals.

I think some of the meals do, but it's quite rare and easy to avoid. If you find the meal on this list (https://www.hellofresh.com.au/foodinfo/) it will tell you all the ingredients - look for flavour enhancer 621. Hopefully one of the Hellofresh representatives will comment on this and give you some more information

Paul08

Unless MSG is added to some of the "spice" packs [I personally doubt this], but you have full control, as you are the Chef, what goes into your meals, and the preparation of all of the components. {Suggest you get in touch with Customer Care for clarification}

HelloFresh
GemmaHelloFresh

Hi Hilary,

Thanks for your question!

At HelloFresh, we're all about fresh food and convenience, so sourcing the best high-quality products is one of our biggest priorities. Transparency is vital for any fresh food situation, not only for allergies but peace of mind too, so we always want our customers to know what they're getting in their delicious boxes.

All ingredient particulars will be printed on the label of the product, however, you can also plan ahead and find this information on our Food Info page here: www.hellofresh.com.au/foodinfo.

Added MSG is often hard to avoid in Asian sauces like oyster sauce, however, we are consciously sourcing without this additive wherever feasible. On the rare occasion that there is any added MSG to a product, it will be indicated on the product label as 'flavour enhancer (621)'.

I hope this helped! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions - our Customer Care Team are available 24/7 to support you.
