A waste of $600
A waste of money cable broke in the first week sent me around in circles in Sydney and the off road software is not easy to use. I am back to using the old Garmin Nuvi with tracks for Aus or ozi explorer no more Hemma rubbish for me, at $600 I expected a better product

NOT User Friendly for off road or TOPO Maps
Worse GPS I have owned, and I have owned quite a few. It is not user friendly and have to relayer the maps every time I power down, if it goes to sleep you do get the screen that you were on, BUT if it asleep to long and internal battery goes flat then start again, If I have the map on screen and the way points are not showing even though it is an active layer then when you access the the left hand screen slide and select waypoints then go back to the Map then you are shown a blank grid.
Way points do not show on maps whilst mobile, sometimes...

Heap of crap
this has been a headache since i purchased it, to delete maps i have to do a factory reset as it messages me and says it has stopped working. Maps take forever to download, you get bugger all space on the internal memory. Hema tell me they cant grant it access to the SD card for maps to be downloaded too, that is utter crap. I've gone on the Explore maps and roads that are on it are actually not there. while the theory is ok the use is not. Maps are way out dated and there is never an update. biggest waste of money i have spent, utter crap product. i want to rate this ZERO
Extremely Disappointed
Drive Navigation software is terrible & should be replaced,
Explore mode better but would prefer the old oziexplorer system instead of this slow layer system.
The fact you have to pre load maps or sections of maps is a pain. Why can't the unit store more maps off line or even the micro SD card. Don't get internet in lots of places.
Buttons on top menu Explore mode too small. Hard to select when driving
No where is the time shown when in navigation mode in Drive or Explore modes - this is annoying.
Navigation bar on bottom Explore mode way too small to read. Need a microscope:(
Overall this is an overpriced, overcomplicated mess. I was better off with my separate Oziexplorer GPS & Navman GPS.
Extremely Disappointed

POWER PROBLEMS
Since new unit become very hot, now will not hold a charge, will run when plugged in but not when disconnected. Have to have a good idea where you are going or you could end up in the front room of some ones house. Hema reckon 2-4 weeks to fix it. Not a good buy.

Hi-1 Useless complicated rubbish
The HX-1 is a complicated piece of garbage it does not have all the sites that the latest hard copy of camps 9 has and the battery goes flat even when the unit is switched off. It has trouble finding satellites and won't connect to its server. Absolute waste of money

Complicated piece of garbage
I wish I had never bought this piece of crap, it must be the most user unfriendly and complicated device I've ever used. The online tutorials are so fast and confusing that make you want to throw the thing against the wall.
On a straight road, on my way to Collie, WA, it told me to take a right turn, then left, if I'd done that, I would have gone through someone's house as I was passing a small town!.
I found that by using my on board GPS and WikiCamps app, ($7.95) I could find things so much easier.
I even spoke to a fellow that has a HX 7 unit and also couldn't figure out how to use the HX-1
I'll sell this piece of useless technology on Gumtree.

Definitely not happy Jan.
I agree with all the bad regarding the drive mode. A trip from Toogoolawah to Nanango the machine warned me of six different speed cameras. We were in the bush. There were no cameras. We were on occasion being closely watched by a couple of kangawallabies. I'm sorry if capitals are considered shouting but HEMAs response is as already mentioned 'not our issue you will need to speak with IGO.' Q: Are the maps accurate and reliable? A: No definitely not. Q: Can you easily update the device. A: there has been no updates for drive mode in six months...
Read more. Q: was it easy to install in your vehicle. A: Yes. Well for the price 1 out of 3 isn't good it's terrible. We paid lots for what we thought would be a good investment for our travels in our van but support is basically non existent. august 6th 2017 Update: Update on previous review. After four conversations HEMA told me that you can update the maps via the website NAVIEXTRAS. I have downloaded the toolbox program and when we get back home in 3 weeks I will download the latest update. I have been assured the issues with incorrect warnings has been addressed. If I had been given this info to begin with my gripe would not have been as bad. Unfortunately we are still waiting on IGO to get their act together in order to be able to install Camps 9. I'm not holding my breath but if it happens I'll give another update.- 7 reviews

agree with the others - not sorted enough to be worth the money
a rather expensive and frustrating device. I have not encountered too many problems with the drive section - however I shut all the warnings off as they are distracting. The speed limits are sometimes wrong....
In explore this thing is utterly depended on wifi. The base hema explorer map has very scant detail until you download the maps. This is best done at home before you leave as you need plenty of time - the average maps I downloaded were more than 200mb and the device is VERY slow and takes up to an hour to download . You have to s...
Read moreync it after each download as it becomes dysfunctional without syncing - and for a bit more data eating it then uploads your maps to the cloud - making it a double dip for your data, there is no choice in this - you cannot delete tracks or routes without syncing as well. The operation "buttons" on the top of the screen in explore are stupidly small and impossible to use on the move, even the most dextrous passenger will have no hope unless you stop and even then it is fiddly there is also no north up when in track/course up mode the manual does not cover many of these things - all in all too fiddly and way too dependent on an internet connectionFind out how Hema HX-1 Navigator compares to other GPS Navigation Systems

Out of dates maps and terrible software
Outdated map files in IGo on road maps which needs to be addressed. Driving on portions of the pacific hwy and sections which are years old don't show up or detour you through side roads. Speed camera alerts are way off. Don't waste your money until Hema take some initiative and fix these issues

Software slow and separate for an update
Almost $700, why? for a headache, the processor is heavy, it takes sometime to clear the screen, when deleting maps or data it stops. Speed and speed cameras is very messy, and not accurate, And you cant turn the unit off while on charger. The first time i held the unit i didn't feel any build quality.

Hema HX 1 navigator with outdated maps maps and information
After purchase I tried the drive navigator and found the maps are extremely out dated. It kept telling me there were speed camera where none have ever been installed, Speed zone was 60 KPH in 2 year old 110 KPH roads. Contacted Hema and was informed that there were no updates available for the navigator. They explained that they had requested the supplier, iGO, to provide updates but had not heard back from them. The HX 1 has been out for a while now so I expect that update would be available.
The Explore section fairs slightly better but the...

Stay away from this unit.
Navigation system is worse than an Aldi unit. Time zones do not update between States and are often wrong.
Speed zones are often incorrect - beware. Shuts off navigation when using, audio stops working.
School zones do not operate. Storage for downloaded maps is totally inadequate. No auto updates of navigation side - Drive.
Save your money, buy a dedicated sat navigation unit and use an app such as Hema 4wd or similar, depending on what you need for off road use.

HEMA HX-1 Weather Radar Overlay not working
For those who are trying to get the weather map overlay working, I contacted the HEMA support and got this reply.

Read more--- Regards Robert Taylor Senior Technical Consultant GPS & Digital Products HEMA Maps Tech Support Team" So no timeframe for a fix and no HEMA notices anywhere on their website, nor email, that I could find! It was frustrating me and I thought there was a problem with the HX-1 itself or operator (me) error!! Hope this helps others who are looking for the same! Cheers, CDGUpdate needed
Purchased the HX1 Mayember 2016 and in my opinion is not ready for full release, nor has there been any firmware updates to resolve these glitches:
- GPS time does not work when travelling between different time zones, my Toyota navigation, and all other GPS brands update them self with no issues.
- VERY sensitive to over temperature when left mounted on windscreen (No other GPS's I own are that sensitive). Placing the unit in front of an air conditioning duct for about a minute will make it work again.
- Not enough storage to down lo...
Read moread area specific topo maps without having to delete currently saved areas. Why cant we access the SD card storage to do this? The device storage memory is pathetic, the SD card seems to be only usable for photos, I have a smart phone with much larger memory and MUCH better resolution for this, I purchased a mapping device NOT a camera. - Unit decided not to switch on for no reason during a trip fron Sydney to WA, returned it to my place of purchase and they did a hard reset. Apparently you need to hold the power key for 15 seconds to do this. Luckily I had my other brand of GPS (which I intended on fully replacing with this Hema in the glove box) to actually get me home.- 3 reviews

Great unit
The HX-1 met my needs perfectly, it did get a little glitchy at times requiring a reboot but i found it easy to use the mapping system, the only real complaint i have is the phantom speed cameras every 3 kilometers, this is something hema need to sort out it nearly drove me bananas until i turned off speed camera alerts! Other than that its definitely a great alternative to paper maps and you'd be lucky to get lost with it mounted to your dash !

Beware: Hema HX-1 Explore Mode OK but Drive Mode very low utility
UPDATED AND UPGRADED REVIEW
I have left my first review below to document the problems I had with the HX-1. All of my comments about documentation and the poor Drive facility stand. However, after a lot of mucking around the freezing problems with my HX-1 in Explore mode eventually resolved themselves. I have found that, even though I am on broadband, it takes a LONG time for explore maps to download. If you try to do anything else with the unit while a map is downloading it locks up. When I say a long time I mean the best part of a who...
Read morele day. However, once downloaded, the Explore mode does work very well and pretty well as it is intended. The standard Hema map that does loaded at purchase is quite good for most uses. I have downloaded a section of the NSW too at the maximum zoom which I find very helpful round my local area. Overall ....upgraded from 1 star to 3 stars. If they can fix the issues with the speed limits in Drive mode, which I believe is a major flaw in the HX-1, it would get 5 stars. FIRST REVIEWAn expensive completely useless piece of
I've always used Hema paper maps and have wanted a navigator for a long time.
We purchased the HX-1 just over 3 weeks ago, prior to our annual leave holiday to the Eyre peninsula for a 3 week trip.
Unboxing it, I charged it then registered it and began to familiarize myself with the settings and download the smaller scale maps for our destinations.
The unit had some glitches while zooming in and out but i put that down to being inside until i put it in the cruiser and that's when it stopped working altogether.
I left it plugged in while ...
Loving it!
New map detail is awesome compared to my hn7 and really cool that it has a camera to geotag my photos. Just wish there was a reversing camera input on it.
