Loving the V8 Power!
I never thought I would buy a Commodore however when I heard that Holden was discontinuing the great Australian sedan and closing their manufacturing plant I could not resist looking into buying a top of the range Commodore SSV Redline. I was familiar with the Commodores of the past as my Dad used to have a VH and VN when I was a kid living at home. All I can say is that the humble Commodore has come a long way since then. My wife drives a current model X3 BMW 20D and the quality of the interior of the VF is pretty good in comparison. The BMW h...Read more
as better quality rubber dash vs the harder plastics that you get with the VF however it does feel like you are in a very nice car when you jump in and I have had multiple passenger comment on how impressed they are with the Commodore. I went the manual transmission as going auto with a V8 didn't sit well with me. There is plenty of power but you don't really get a sense of its potential until you get the revs above 4krpm. If you want more on the low end maybe look at the Clubsport LSA or GTS which are both supercharged but that's a fair hike in expense. Maybe I'm just used to driving my wife's diesel X3. Cabin space is amazing and boot is even better. There is just so much space in this car that it dwarfs my wife's X3. I just don't understand why people don't buy these cars anymore as from a practical standpoint I just find this much better than a SUV as there is more usable boot space and rear seat room which is great if you have kids with child seats. Because my SS-V Redline runs 6.2 litre LS3 it does use a bit of fuel. I commute to work each day and I'm averaging 18l per 100km running on 95 or 98 ULP. I could get it down but I'm having so much fun giving that V8 a good squirt where I can. The sound is amazing on this car from the factory. It sounds like a proper V8 in and outside however she only makes noise when you put your foot down. This means you can drive comfortably under normal conditions without sounding like a hoon or annoying your neighbors. Overall a great car with a magnificent engine. Such a shame that we are not making cars like this anymore as I wish I had one earlier. I have given this car 5 stars as for what I paid (56K) I feel you get so much car and fun at the same time. And to my surprise its super practical too for the family owner.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

The best Aussie car ever
Sold a VE 2010 Omega and got a 2015 SV6 Storm Sedan, it handles beautifully a little tyre noise on rough roads but less than the Omega, the interior is very upmarket and the Sat Nav works great. Not had it long enough for reliability tests but up to now it runs perfectly.

They say it's perfect, it's not. It's good.
I've always wanted a SS, ever since i drove my mates VT SS in 1998. It was 220kw of power the likes of which none of us had seen before. But the quality issues with Commodores kept me away. That was until the VFII. After watching every review on the internet and seeing how much praise there was for this car, i decided to take the plunge and buy a SSV Redline.
The engine is amazing! That cannot be understated, and paired up with the bi-modal exhaust it gives you a true V8 experience. You cannot argue with the performance, it's simply exhilara...Read more
ting. The front and rear Brembo's, and the FE3 suspension make braking effortless and handling amazing for a big car, although it still feels like a big heavy car. So far so good. But it's not all good. My biggest issue is a clunking sound that the car sometimes makes when you shift gears without accelerating. The service technician said it's just the "play" between the tailshaft and the diff. Regardless of what it is, i hear it, so do all my passengers, and in a $55k car which is top of the line, you expect better. There are also issues with getting the car in 2nd gear or reverse when the car is cold. You have to try a couple of times before it goes in gear. The sat nav was out of date on my trip home from picking the car up from the dealership, and has not been updated during the first service, it remains unusable. All the fancy front collision alert, lane departure warning, and rain sensing wipers don't work like they should. Lane departure warning goes off even though I'm still in my lane and front collision alert sometimes picks up parked cars on the side of the road. Having said that the blind spot monitoring is perfect and very handy when changing lanes. Finally the car is thirsty, very thirsty, but i knew that buying a V8. The claimed 12.6L combined fuel usage is achievable, but must incorporate a bit of highway driving to do so. Realistically your probably going to achieve around 15L. Really spirited driving can increase that substantially. This car could have been amazing if it didn't have the issues that shouldn't exist in a car like this. Nevertheless it is still a good car with power for days and a luxurious and comfortable interior.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great car but a few niggles.
We have our Calais V 6.0L V8 on a lease. We are now wondering if we will pay the ballon payment and keep it or not after the lease expires. There is good and bad about this car.
Good:
•Looks are great. We opted for no-frills on the exterior in white. Glad we did. It looks like a proper luxury car. It looks great from any angle too, especially from the side.
•The 6.0L V8 has all the power we'll ever need and then some. Living in the country, we have to pass a lot of road trains and tourists towing housing units with their asthmatic urban ...Read more

It has cost me a fortune but yes I have the car I wanted.
Yes there are issues with all Holden's they are built to a price like any other vehicle.
Yes they are loud but I have noticed that the SV6 people are complaining a lot SS drivers tend to like the noise so no foul there.
Yes there is wind noise over the side mirrors but you don't notice it. But I had this noise in the cabin drove me insane, had the dealer check it still there it was actually the keys...the cabin is pretty quiet comparatively...check what is rolling around you'll fin...Read more

How to reset the "Change oil light" on the dash.
First with car off, Push and hold Start / stop button on for approx. 10 seconds or when dash lights flash. Then push the accelerator pedal to the floor in 3 quick motions and then push start / stop button again to turn off. All reset.
Holding the button down the 10 seconds is important. The Holden dealership wanted to charge $20 to reset this. What a joke. It took 30 seconds to reset. This may be needed if you get the car serviced before the oil change reminder light comes on.

I am happy with my 2015 SV Storm SV6
Having had a power steering rack replaced in a 2013 VF Calais, I am very happy with the 2015 Storm SV 6. No excessive noise either
Interior is wonderful. Better than the Calais except that I don't have push button start/stop or electric seat adjustment. Leg room is ideal for me
So far reliability is fine.as is fuel consumption.
Satnav is a welcome addition to the SV6.

COMMODORE 2016 SV6 BLACK EDITION DISAPOINTING
This latest offering from Holden will soon take the smile off your dial when you hit the course chip, very poor noise suppression, flimsy door seals, and missing underbody protection panels that were on previous series
these panels known as the aero package.have been removed exposing unpainted chasis rails and wiring to the elements they also helped reduce the road roar from the very noisy Bridgstone Potenza tyres fitted as standard.
The government fuel usage figures would now be invalid as these panels would have been there for the tests as they improve the fuel consumption with the the smooth underbody they created
Before you buy an SV6 BLACK look underneath it may have a Holden badge but its actually a Fraud

Great value car
Purchased our Calais March 2014. Great fuel economy for its size on the open road however it does suffer a little in traffic.
Towing our caravan is a breeze with the Holden heavy duty tow pack and load equalising bars
Only issues we have had were both fixed by the dealer, no questions asked. First issue was the rear passenger door was not aligned correctly which was realigned. The second was a bluetooth pairing issue with my wife's iPhone which was fixed with a firmware update of the Mylink system.
I think having a good dealer makes a difference,

From Old to New
After I sold my 2004 BMW 5 series, I bought an Sv6 in Nov 2014. Best decision I made. The interior is sophisticated and has a sporty feel to it. I honestly couldn't fault the car besides its A pillar blind spot. Great car. Very quiet inside aswell. It is a bit heavy on the fuel, but, I don't really care. Perfect family car. It handles really well with its 3.6L V6. I'm 6'3 and I've got plenty of space to relax inside. As a family man, this car fits all the categories I could look for in a car

Buyer BEWARE - Radio Issues with all Commodores Sv6 2016 Confirmed by dealership!!! [2016 SV6 VF Se
I bought my first Holden in 2011 and this was my 3rd (don't know why) - But, It will definitely be my last.
Vehicle purchased has had continuing radio problems since day one. The radio stations all have very poor reception in most areas around Perth. If the channel is clear, it seems to fade in and out making it very annoying to listen to the radio. Stations such as 92.1 / 94.5 / 96.1 / 97.7 are poor most of the time with heavy static/crackling.
What is strange and frustrating is that my previous Holden (2011 SV6) did not have these pro...Read more
blems. Apart from the high fuel usage (expected, so fine) and the horrible radio. The car is not too bad, I liked it that's why I bought it. Holden do not realise that my company turns over $6million+ a year and we plan on buying more and more cars in the future; these will not be Holdens. The service from the dealership was also poor and a review for that will be submitted in the relevant section.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Not much different from a cheap Asian car.
With mild, excited anticipation, I rented a SV6 whilst away on business - dissapointed.
The motor is unrefined & noisy. Panel work seems to be exceptionally thin which presents a very 'tinny' sound when raining. Interior is gawdy, poorly finished with cheap looking plastics.
Fabulous boot space. Plenty of acceleration, reasonable ride/handling. Spacious interior.
Don't think Holden are making an effort on their final cars!
My 8 year old Audi A4 is streets ahead of this Commodore in all areas!
Spend the extra on an Audi! If you test drive one you'll want one!

Steering went at 20,000km!!.
Great car, this is my 4th Commodore. Noticed a tight feedback & squeal coming from the steering after 20k's. Took it into my local Holden dealer & turn's out the steering rack had worn,20,000k's & this happen's!!. Not sure if Holden are aware of this being frequently brought up,but the dealer said mine wasn't the only one they've seen, with the same problem. All in all though,a beautiful car to drive & probably the best Holden have ever made.

Nice car but a lot of issues - check ALL the recalls and search for the EPS issue
One thing to say...Holden have said straight to my face- the will risk a fatality rather than replace power steering racks in cars...I ask you if this is the manufacturers mentality how can you buy one of their cars
Read all the comments and then spend your money elsewhere - their care factor, customer service AND CONCERN FOR YOUR SAFETY is NON_EXISTENT

2015 Holden Commodore SSV VFII - Loving being back in a V8 Manual!
Almost 2 months in and and just over 2,000kms and love it! It's so much fun to drive!
We had to have SUV's for several years - and you can't get a manual in a luxury SUV so love this new beast! The bi model exhaust sounds so good. Loving the little extra's the V has like heads up display and leather interior.
Looks sexy inside and out but is also amazing to drive. I was a little dubious going from a SUV to a sedan with 19' wheels as we were rather silly buying a car without driving it first (thought it was going to ride rough as guts like...Read more
our previous similar vehicles). The ride is on the same level as our last vehicle which was a top of the line Forester. Very impressed! Considering we did opt to purchase a V8, i'm also pretty happy with the fuel consumption. We are getting 14L/100km in town (compared to our four cylinder turbo Forester that i couldn't get any lower than 12.5L/100km in town). Only reason's i don't give this car 5/5 are:1 comment

Also a Ford XR owner who bought the SV6. Question safety of this car
As a general comment- yes agree with other reviewer, the interior is better than the Falcon and key arrangement by wheel is a bit of a blob.
The SV6 goes ok but only if whipped. The Commi has nowhere near the torque of the Falcon. Falcon has instant pull and punch at almost any speed whilst Commi needs to be at right rev range to get going.
Commi SV6 handles better than the Falcon, Falcon has way better brakes!!!! The Commi doesn't as quickly get its weight forward and down over the front axle when on the anchors, so it feels a bit hairy wh...Read more

Are timing chains still an issue in the sv6 my17 series 2 sedans? As mine arrives next week. It has only done 34,000 km. And how much do they cost currently to repair if need be?
2 answers
Cost depends on who does the job Holden dealers. Lube mobile. My car ( kmart tyre & auto) ultra tune. will charge 10 times more than a local independent mechanic Yes timing chains are still an issue some are failing at 50,000 km
Timing chains are *not* an issue in VF Commodores as they were in the VZ-series, where a faulty batch was mixed up with the correct chains, thus causing elongation and stretch, typically around 50,000 to 70,000km. The VF (SIDI DI) chain metrics are similar and same number of chains, but do not have faults. They should easily last the life of the engine without changing, provided service intervals are adhered to. Where VZ chains required replacement, it was a $3,000 job and 2.5 days.

Occasionally If I do a long trip on a hot day the fuel gauge stops working. The next day after a trip the fuel gauge works normally. Holden put the scanner on the car and the gauge corrected itself. can you please provide a possible explanation or is this a known problem. My car is a 2014 SV6 with only 70,000 kilometres.
