The advertised fuel consumption for Honda Civic is a joke.
The actual fuel consumption for Hybrid Honda Civic is 120 percent more than the claimed one.
9.3 lires/100 km rather than 4.6.
Honda has so far not give or cared to my several request for a technical explanation on the matter.
I have been writing to local authorised Service Center, Australian head quarters and even Honda Japan.
False advertising for fuel consumption and poor customer services

Honda Civic VTi
I have a Honda Civic 2008 love the car till recently. Starter motor/solenoid playing up grinding sound when started... sometimes. Called Honda today only to find out to replace starter the cost would be $1750. Disappointing that a car which I bought new and have had only 5 years has cost me $350 a year to start. For a 5 year old car very disappointing. I would only look at cars that have longer warranties now. After 5 years I would only expect to still do regular services. and replace the obvious brakes tyres and so on. I though Honda would be more reliable... Hope this is not the start of many problems!!!
Love the fuel efficiency !

Trouble-free motoring
Bought my car in 2008 and NEVER had any mechanical problems; no squeaks or rattles with plenty of room inside. Honda cars however need regular servicing: can be a bit expensive though! The 1.8L engine holds it own well in traffic and putting the auto in D2 will keep the engine spinning with a good pick-up when needed.
Well screwed together; drives well; comfortable!
Nothing really!

Superb!
After test-driving dozens of low-mileage used cars, I eventually found a superb 2007 Honda Civic. It's a revelation: quiet, smooth, comfortable, quick, and superbly bolted together. A credit to Honda. Only time will tell if it's as reliable as it seems, but so far it's a delight to own and drive. It thoroughly deserves the accolades given it by the cynical but honest 'Dog & Lemon Guide'.
Everything.
Rather expensive new, but a superb bargain if you can find the right one 2nd hand.

Love this little UFO
I have a 2010 Civic Si in manual.
I get very good fuel economy(about 7L/100km), it has the power to over take when you want to and driving this thing in a spirited manner on twisty country roads is quite fun.
The gauges light up like in a plane which is cool, the digital speedo that is mounted above the dash so it is in your sight is good so you do not have to look down to know how fast you are going
The small issues are just the water based paint honda use which is soft as room temperature butter, but syncos on the manual(mainly 2nd gea...Read more
r) is a pain. The clutch master cylinder is prone to having its seals fail but if you are firm but still polite with the dealer and show them evidence(in the form of a Honda UK TSB) about the issue you can get it fixed. This car is very unquie since not many were really sold, and not many cars have a UFO like design inside and and outSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great car, brilliant
We purchased the 8th generation Civic (late 2009 model) which included stability control and curtain airbags as standard. The car is well built, solid, and great to drive. The Honda engine is very zippy (1.8L) and is more than capable up inclines and on the highway. The auto transmission is extremely smooth and the drive quite comfortable. Reliability is the key reason we chose a Honda, and so far it hasn't missed a beat.
Zippy, reliable and well built
Road noise is a little high but comparable to other makes

Still looks good even after 5 years of neglect
The wife's car and it gets washed twice a year if it needs it or not. Our 19 year daughter wants to buy it from us, but it means buying a new one and watching the neglect start all over again. Service it regularly and it will last forever. It's a Honda and it just works
Looks, even after 5years

Defective brakes on Honda Civics
The brakes on my 2011 Honda Civic has been starting to wear down and screech. I am very surprised as with my previous car which was a Toyota Corolla which I had for 14 years and never needed to change the brakes as I am very gentle on it. I googled Honda Civic brakes and found that their 2008-2011 model have defective brakes and wear out prematurely and in the US there have been multiple class actions taken out on Honda. I spoke to my dealership and they insisted it was the way I drove the car despite my previous Toyota Corolla not needing any brake changes for 14 years. Shame on Honda for not recalling these defective vehicles.

14 years and never needed to change brakes, you must be kidding. Brake pads need replacing on ALL vehicles, they wear out. I bet you hardly serviced the car either.
And furthermore to let the pads down to the point where you heard screeching means you had worn them out, regular service woulod have advised you to change the pads, so you didn't get the Honda serviced either.

Honda Civic Hybrid acceleration
Hi guys. I used to worked for Honda. The Hybrid is equipped with a Smart CVT gearbox. It will read how you drive. If you want performance. In "S" mode. 100% kick down, then lift pedal 50% up and full kick down again. We try dragging it on Barbagallo race track at W.A against a 1.8L VTI Civic and it is almost similar in acceleration from 0-100km/h. We also achieved 206km/h in the hybrid. So it is not slow.
The design, quality for the money you can buy. I also used to worked for Audi, Benz & BMW. etc. Honda engineer is almost on par with German cars.
Battery only last 6~7 years and will cost $1950 including installation.

A car for serious enthusiasts
The Honda Civic Type R is a pleasure to drive. I have owned a Toyota, Subaru Impreza and a Honda Integra in the past. Out of all cars I've owned in the past, this has got to be my favourite. The car has a free revving engine which screams as you push it over 8,000RPMs which switches to the more agressive VTEC CAM profiles.
The car packs a 148kw engine which is plenty of power for a naturally aspirated 2.0L engine and is fuel efficient at the same time.
The driving position of the driver seat is excellent as you are placed in close proximi...Read more
ty to the wheel, the gear shift knob and your visibility of the road in front. If you are a bit of a car enthusiast and happen to take your car to the tracks, such as Eastern Creek or Wakefield here in NSW, for a front-wheel drive set up, the car is great in handling the corners and power through them with ease. You will experience severe understeer if the car is pushed to its limits. The Civic Type R is definitely one for the car enthusiasts. Although the handling and suspension is nice and stiff, it can be a bit too harsh especially for those who enjoy a comfortable ride.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

A great car, and a great hybrid... We need to see more of these on Sydney roads. People need to give up huge fuel guzzlers to use these hybrids for their long distance travel, we will save on fuel and CO2 emissions and will still enjoy a good smooth drive. Worth every penny spent.
Excellent car, smooth, sturdy, good mileage and great drive all together.
Suspension al et down as the interior gets very noisy over the most littlest of road bumps. Batteries do get discharged very quickly on a hot day when A/C gets used a lot. Also, the spare is a temporary not a full size alloy which is annoying. God knows who started this stupid concept of a temporary spare!

Should be a "great car because" but is really "an ok car but"
A very 90's car. The Honda Accord is a comfortable car in Summer but in winter it is terrible. The outside temperature may be 15C, climate control set at 24C but persists in blowing freezing air into the cabin. Be back to Honda a number of times, the final time was told that is just the way they are and to use manual temperature control, but this still doesn't overcome the problem.
Also no speed alert, a tiny low fuel warning light (no audible warning), no trip computer etc.
The old Magna was a more modern, better appointed car.
Reasonable fuel consumption, comfortable in summer
Climate control that blows cold air in winter

Love it
This car is very safe and reliable. Very easy to control. It has heaps of boot space and is easy to park anywhere. I am very happy with this car. The only downside is there is a rattle somewhere around the dashboard and it is pretty annoying. Also some of the panels came off inside the car and when u push them back they don't satay put. This is a bit dodgy for a new car. But I can overlook this to some extent as its a nice car to drive.
Reliable
Cheap manufacture and fit of indoor panels

New in 2006 and now done 70,000km. Love it! Great on the highway or in town. Fuel consumption - we can achieve the combined cycle results on the highway only. ie. combined cycle cannot be achieved - it is more like 6.5lt/100km than the 5.2 claimed by the mandatory sticker provided on new vehicles.
Honda servicing second to none!

Great car! Dream to drive, handles perfectly around corners and wet roads. the seats are so snug to sit in, you don't get thrown about. The back seats feel so spacious! The customer service and repairs go without a flaw, they are only to happy that your happy with the car. Performance is GREAT, over 5500 revs the Vtech kicks in, the sound makes it all worth the money, launches off.
Downside is that the spoiler intrudes the rear view mirror, the iPod connection is a waste, you cannot control the iPod and hard to find a particular song.
FAST, SMOOTH, VTECH, COMFY
Spoiler a bit awkquad to see around in rear viewonly 2 seatbelts in back

Good
It has taken me almost twelve months to really like this car. We had a V6 VS Commodore wagon previous to this and it was very handy, mainly because of it's ground clearance, interior size and load carrying. If you keep in mind the Civic is mainly a town car or a two people type car that doesn't like large rear passengers or loads in the boot. It will bottom out over bumps with a couple of suit cases in the boot on all but billiard table smooth highways. And the standard Dunlops are noisy I'm hoping a set of Bridgestone RE92's will quieten the r...Read more
oad noise down. It's been a reliable, fuel efficient, user friendly little car. I would buy another Honda, just not sure it would be a Civic, and I would take it for a longer test drive to be sure there was no little niggling characteristics. 2006 VTi, the styling has grown on me, love the interior styling, the ease and light positive feel of the manual gear shift, the ease of the cruise control I use it when ever I can around town, it feels well built and as the Honda ad says "everything just works". Unfortunately no car is perfect, the accelerator is not smooth at light throttle opening it feels like it starts at about 5% open when you just touch it, can create a jerky feeling at low speed and makes the cruise control feel jerky especially on a slight downhill. Honda says thats how they are and can't rectify it. Match that with the distance the clutch has to come out before it engages and it took some months to master the take offs and not look like an amateur even though I have been driving for over 25 years. The A pillars are too thick and can hide cars, quite dangerous. A car of this price should have 60/40 split rear seat and boot release on the key fob. The rear suspension is way too soft put two young kids in the back and you'll have to watch that you don't drag the arse of the car entering or leaving driveways, I will fit higher harder rear springs soon.Similar opinion? Cheapest hybrid on the market, a quality car when cheap running costs. The low down acceleration (or lack of) is concerning and takes getting used to.
Features, comfort and easy to read digital readout on the dash.
Restrictive boot size, no folding rear seats, jerky engine when driving slowly in carparks. Can be very dangerous if you need to pull out into traffic and accelerate quickly because the car doesn't believe in accelerating quickly!

Great car. I drove a base model Toyota Prius for the first time the other day (rental car). The Honda Civic Hydrid is just a better car all round. Looks better inside and out than the Prius. Handles better. The IMA system on the HCH is less "clunky" than the Toyota's. It has better equipment levels and costs less. A real no brainer. I can't work out why Honda don't market it better? A lot of people I speak to don't even realise Honda has a hybrid?

Have driven this car for over 60000KM now without any problem whatsoever. The level of comfort and rear leg room is suppressing for a smallish car. This backed with HONDA's great after sales service makes Civic a winner.

Great car, I will buy another one again! I hope that soon will be available bigger size hybrids for Australian needs at a realistic price. It is a pity that Aussie automakers are so slow in building petrol efficient cars.
It is a great car to drive, well built, good quality and value for money. Hi everyone, I’m looking to buy this Honda Civic model and was wondering if anyone knows if the 2011 model has this engine mount problems that the older models are having?

Has anyone heard intermittent weird noises whilst driving their Civic?
3 answers
How bad is the noise? It could be a number of reasons but do not forget with the age of the vehicle these noises will emerge.
Is it like an intermittent low grinding that only lasts for a few seconds particularly when you’re either idling, about to take off from a red light or reversing down your driveway on a cold morning? That goes away once your car warms up and/or you accelerate? If yes and you’ve got an 8th gen Civic then you’ve got broken engine mounts - particularly the lower right hand mount. Google it, I’ve had about 5 now replaced and still they break, so have by the looks of what’s on google every single 2006-2010 civic owner worldwide. It’s a known design flaw, but don’t bother going to Honda to get it fixed they’ll just tell you you need it replaced but when you go back and back to them saying ummm it’s broken AGAIN and this are your hideously expensive $600 a pop OEM parts you’re gouging me for they’ll just pretend they don’t know why but due to the age of the vehicle its not covered under warranty...interesting how they can still claim that given there’s thousands upon thousands of owners reporting the same fault, I guess it’s all only “anecdotal” however, if the manufacturer doesn’t admit there’s a manufacturing flaw or compelled to provide transparent reporting of data about what problems a specific model and year vehicle is consistently presenting to their service centres then what do you do? Oh...if you were thinking hey maybe I’ll just get a non-OEM but compatible engine mount and fit that that should fix it, with any other part I’d say yeah go for it but not the engine mounts, fit a non-genuine Honda one of these you may find yourself with a bigger issue than just some cracked mounts
Also have the same engine mount issue. (Done 170Kms, Civic VTI-L 1.8 Sedan Manual) 2nd time its happen, but this time is not vibrating the whole interior when cold like it did before. But Honda dealer still says i need it replaced again. But it doesnt vibrate so i didnt bother. Got even bigger problems now though. Cant get it any gear while engine is running. It goes in gear when engine is off, and when i try to start it with it in gear and clutch all the way in, it tries to pull forward. So i think the clutch isnt disengaging when i push the clutch in. And also power steering fluid is leaking. Been leaking for last 6months. Just been topping it off. I think its just a worn O-ring, but still another headache to worry about. Not sure if its even worth fixing at this point. Cost to repair is probably gonna exceed the value of the car...

Our honda 2007 civic's paint is failing in multiple places on the bonnet, roof & a few minor patches on other panels . After reading the usa forums where various models have been recalled for similar problems, i believe it to be a clear coat failure . Our car is always garaged & well maintained . A nice care with a very very poor paont job . Anyone else experienced similar ??

My 2008 Civic has never been garaged and it's paint is still good. Perhaps they changed the formula for mine or yours was a unique case?? Either way I'm not sure if you can do anything about it now, I think paint warranties are very short.
