HELP! My release button will not open - I have tried everything including putting my whole body weight on top to try and budge it, but it won't open. Any tips or tricks? I love this vacuum but this is really frustrating given my vacuum needs emptying desperately.

I'd ask the store where I bought the vacuum to demonstrate how it opens. Is it squarely attached, or at an angle? It may be faulty if it's totally jammed. You can call Hoover Australia customer support on 1300360845, who may be able to guide you through the problem. I hope you find a way to empty your vacuum.

I bought the 5210 in November and after using it for just over a month, we are finding that dust and hair collect in the nozzle leading from the brush to the vacuum unit which isn't full. It picks up general stuff but now it keeps getting blocked without the dust container full. This means we have to take the head off and pull out all the hair which is just like matted dust. What can we do?

If it was me, I will take the product to the shop where you bought it and ask the sales person for help and guidance. Its could be a fault and they should replace it if possible or repair it. Good luck.

The problem was actually caused by my wife not understanding the machine. I gave her the instructions to read but she did not realize that the cyclone filter had to be emptied. I took the brush off and made sure that the nozzle was clean, then did a full vacuum. Everything worked perfectly and the cyclone filter was full and had to be emptied. She did not appreciate being told it was her fault, or was it my fault in not reading the instructions first and showing her how it works.

I cannot release the dustcap from my 5210 heritage vac. My hands are not strong enough - my 82 year old husband can with difficulty. Do you have any suggestions to overcome this problem for me and many other customers please?

I would take it back again and insist on a new unit if it happens again after that. Surely the cost for them to keep repairing it for you is more than the cheapest price I've seen them sell it for which is $89?? Good luck. These units are so good though that I wonder if you should bite the bullet and buy another one when they are $89 or $99 again. Maybe you got a lemon?

Where can I buy it at the cheapest price?

I bought mine at Godfreys. They had a sale where it was reduced from $200 to $99. I think they have this sale from time to time as when i was researching this vacuum i saw online that people commented they got it at godfreys for $99. When i looked at godfreys they were $200 so i signed up to their newsletter and literally within days they had a sale and i paid $99 for it. I remember it was AFTER mothers day. Good luck.

I've had my Hoover for nearly 2 years and love it. For some reason whilst I'm hoovering the brush seems to stop and start all the time. I check it all the time for hair and cotton strands, etc. but nothing it's all clean. Does anyone else have this problem?

The answer might be in the fact that you've had it for 2 years. The brush only turns due to suction so there must be wear that stops the brush rotating freely. That's my guess.

The brush has a separate motor, belt driven. I can assure you that the batteries are dying as it starts good then after a short time the brush will top running. This protects the motor from under-voltage damage and guess what? Try getting the batteries replaced...you will get a shock at the result.

Craig

The brush is driven by 12 volt motor in the head of the vacuum. the motor has a thermo cut out protection.
on the motorised head the green light turns when there is power being drawn by the motor on the motorised head. If the light turns on for about 5 seconds then goes out it indicates that the thermo cut off protection has been triggered. When the motor cool down the power will be restored till the thermo cut off triggers the over load protection again.

things to check

is there hair in the wheels?
can the beater brush turn easily?

the chance are you got hair inside the pressed bearing assembly attached to the motor.

Step 1 Remove the beater Brush with a screw driver.
Step 2 Remove the 2 large rear wheels with a flat screw driver.
Step 3 remove 6 Phillips head screw and separate the upper and lower cases.
Step 4 unplug the motor from the over load protection indicator board.
Step 5 gently with your finger un-attach the motor and drive belt from chassis.
Step 6 remove 2 Phillips head screws from the motor drive belt sub assembly.
Step 7 gently remove the motor from the sub assembly and check the belt for wear and broken teeth, make sure the motor rotates freely.
Step 8 with a large bladed flat screw driver prize the black drive wheel from the spindle.
Step 9 with a small punch drift the alloy shaft from the bearing
Step 10 with a larger punch drift the black bearing retainer / shim from the bearing .
Step 11 drift the bearing out of the sub assembly.

now you can clean all the hair and threads around this drive bearing and lubricate the bearing as well

assemble is the reverse proceedure

Is it ok to just leave the Hoover on the power supply all the time or must I switch it off and recharge each time I use it?

In the instructions it says to turn it off once it is fully charged and that it should also be unplugged but if you do this, when you go to use it there is little or no charge left. I have to think ahead and turn it on to charge when I know that I want to use it later.

When I first got it I unplugged it every time after charging it. Now I leave it on all the time and it seems fine. I probably use it for about 10 to 15 mins. at a time and it takes about the same amount of time to recharge, though I haven't really timed it. Hope this helps.

I unplug mine when charged. My last rechargable vacuum lost power eventually, but it took about 5 years before it is noticeable.

How long does it take to charge the heritage 5210 and how long should it work for?

The book states that it should take 6-8 hours to charge. I would say that is probably how long it takes to charge but now when I use it I am lucky to get 10 minutes out of it

mazray
mazray

It may take 6-8 hours initially but after that I suppose it depends on how long you use it for. These machines are meant for small clean ups in between a proper vacuuming, and I think they are great if used for that purpose.

I use mine to do my lounge and about 5 rugs which takes about 15 minutes and it charges back up in less than an hour.

My Hoover Heritage 5210 was fine until few weeks ago. It starts and then stops, though the battery is fully charged. Cannot use it as it wont stay on. Every now and then it decides to stay on but that was only about two times. Can there be fault with the battery and what must we do?

Sue I would be having a look at the warranty and service paperwork that came with the Vacuum and make contact with the nominated service agent or contact Godfreys or where ever you purchased it..
As a matter of interest the battery is housed in the detachable hand vac section. Are you seating that into the main unit after use. It gives an audible click when it clicks into place.
We clean the filter and housing of fluff and dust after each use.
All the best.

jantes
jantes

That is what I would suggest also, check if still under warranty. I also clean it out after every use as well as the filter. It sounds like there may be a problem either with the battery or a connection somewhere

Thank you so much!

Hi,

I am no expert, but if the brush isn't locked into place properly after removal it won't turn. Otherwise it sounds like it could be a fault.

The current model 5210 (2014) has the charging light on the vacuum unit itself, unlike older models which have a seperate charging unit cord attached at the base of the stand to the powerpoint with charging light at the powerpoint.

Hi, yes you are correct, the red light is on until it is charged, then it turns to green. So, you go back and tell them.

Would pay you to ring Hoover as Godfreys don't have a repair service.
