Great van, poor fridge
We purchased a new JAYCO 17 foot EXPANDA touring van in May 2018 but on our first trip away in June 18 found the fridge did not work. Jayco took the van away to fix it and on our second trip in Sept 18 it worked. On our third trip away in January 19 the fridge stopped working again and we then had to take the van/fridge to be fixed. When we got it back, we double checked to see if it worked and guess what ? It still did not work.
We demanded Jayco replace the fridge this time but they blamed Domedic for the fridge problem. In the end they repl...Read more
aced the whole fridge and so far it works. Jayco Sydney were great and the van as a whole is great but the Domedic fridges seem to be a problem. If the fridges are no good get a better make of fridge. It’s Jayco’s Reputation not Domedic that’s on the line.Purchased in May 2021.

Happy camper
Just thought I’d add a review on my older version of the Expanda . Purchased second hand in my local area (horsham ) was originLly from horsham jayco. I read lots of reviews before I committed to buying and I’m glad the horror stories didn’t cone back to bite me. Maybe older vans were built with better quality materials I’m not sure but our Expanda is as solid as a rock. No problems with anything other than aging canvas ends as expected. Everything inside is well built and durable. For an 11 year old well used van it’s held up well. Tows like a...Read more
dream on the back of my 2014 Prado, wouldn’t even know it was there. kids love it, very spacious for our family of 4 and with the awning out and walls down it’s a really big area. I will eventually move up to a newer hard lid model in the next few years. I’m over all impressed with The Expanda a big van when set up but compacts down enough to fit in my shed for storage.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good floor plan but beware of Jayco when it comes to after warranty help
Love my expanda but whenever i have had to deal with jayco for advice or spare parts i get a different story. Spoke to Jayco head office about sourcing new locker door and they said they couldn't manufacture one for caravan that was 4 years old. Spoke to a dealer and they said no worries and ordered the part from jayco and I got it few weeks later. Also had an electrical problem which i now know is just a moisture issue which seems is common but Jayco head office wasn't interested in helping to diagnose the issue.

Excellent
We are regular campers and have had our Outback Expanda 16.3 2006 for over 2 years - without any problem whatsoever. I'm a little staggered that there are some who report so many issues - are they really genuine??? Got to wonder... We camp with 3 other Jayco (Swan/Flamingo) owning families, and they are all very envious. At least 2 are looking to convert to an Expanda.
Great concept. Huge inside, and with all the mod cons. Great layout. Easy to set up, and pack up. Easy to tow. Easy to keep clean. Plenty of storage. Fantastic resale valu...Read more

The Van is the 16 footer with bathroom, full stove, air and all the bits that make a jaco great, Oh, did I mention it was the outback, tows like a dream, Heaps of room, easy and very practicle, I find the quality is fantastic, I reall can,t complain about anything about our New Van, wife and I love it

Check the weight ratio on tyres if it is a single axle and the springs are not 7 leaf also when tanks are full you can not take any food as you will be over weight.Sorry but this is fact.
Sorry Lance07 - what do you mean weight ratio on tyres? I thought you could carry the difference between the ATM and the TARE mass - which should be around 350kg??

Perfect Family Van
I bought the 16.49.3 (shower toilet model) HD. I bought it a year old, but with only 1 short holiday under its belt. I love it, I had the Jayco swan camper before, but found on my own with 3 kids under 5 really hard work, but this one is so easy for me to do on my own. I tow it with a kia grand carnival and its does just fine. I did take out the table as it takes up too much space. Cant wait to go on my next holiday!
Not to heavy to tow and quick set up
They are built to a price, so you need to be gentle wih them.

OK
Our reiew is on a Jayco expanda 2005, model 16.49/3 we ordered midyear and took delivery in November. After the run-through with the dealer there were already a few dissapointments, Marks (faults) in the formica of the Table top and kitchen splash back and a totally different bathroom interior than we had seen in the show model, this one had an ugly large basin that was a far cry from the elegant little fold-up basin in the show model.) The dealer explained that jayco could made changes to the layout and they didn't have control about it. A cal...Read more
l to jayco that we were not happy with mis-matched vanity basin resulted that Jayco agreed to replace the compete vanity unit and would send new panelling to the dealer to fix the back splash and a new table top. (I can not complain about the service - Jayco was prompt to rectify the problems, but I was less impressed with the pre delivery checks and quality control.) But there were a lot of little anoying problems, Gas regulator placed in the wrong position, resulting in gas blockage, Water connections placed wrong (cold water from the hot tap and hot water from the cold water tap) leaking drain - screws popping out, drawers falling out of the rails and that was only on the first trip taking the caravan home. Part of the anoying and recurring problems were the dealers being sloppy, some are just bad quality control issues. In the year following we made several trips back to the dealer to have problems fixed, as water seeped in the caravan from the front seal of the bed-end, water running in the caravan as drain connection popped of the sink, Bed ends comming loose when driving. In the end all got fixed, but after 12 months comming and going back and forwards to the dealer we decided to trade our expanda in for another brand (and an onother dealer) - It was not only those little faults, as it is a relative cheap caravan with good value for money it is just the finishing of that is so anoying, all that putty on the roof and around all the seams - the dirt sticks on all that putty is difficult to clean and spoil the finish and otherwise sleek look of the caravan. Overall it is not a bad caravan but would not buy it again, especially now there is a fair choice of family caravans back on the Australian Market. Light weight, easy to tow, very roomy living space when set-up. Good value for money, clever design, good looks limited window space. (when whe bought the caravan on a nice sunny day, all the canvas bed ends and the windows of the poptop were open and created this very comfortable and airy space within the caravan, however when camping on a colder or windy day the bed and poptop flys are closed and makes the caravan feeling akward with not enough window area. Also the van is noisy due to the canvas fold out beds and camping sounds from neighbouring campers are easily heard and vise versa. Quality control and pre-delivery checks dissapointing, roof not of one moulded piece and has many joints with putty. Bed ends can come loose when driving, some minor water leaks around bed-end seals. Wiring untidy, under bed storage space not accesible unless bed-ends are opened.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Wonderful for short breaks. Wonderful for a couple who want space. Terrific for familys. Yes I agree if and when it does rain and we have top close the zipped windows it is a tad dark, but.... how often does that happen in queensland. Not a problem for us. Terrific value for money, terrific design, an over all sensational investment, that I wont give up for many many years.
This van is nothing short of fabulous. They are terrifc value for money, light weight and easy to tow. The interior space is sensational. What you tow (16ft) is your actual ...Read more
