This is a very good lawn mower.
This mower will not affect my mowing efficiency, but it will also greatly improve my work efficiency.
The mower is so simple to operate and maintain that if you have both hands you can maintain it regularly.
I feel that it is very convenient to use and the vibration is not great.
This should be defined according to your usage.

John Deere X500 with 48" Mowing Deck
I purchased the X500 with 48" mowing deck and it is very good. Has the Kawasaki v-twin FS730V engine, a diff lock (when required), very easy to check and adjust the mower deck level and is a real workhorse. Very easy for women to use & operate if you are wondering.
Owners need to be aware that John Deere issued (2) Operator Manuals for the X500 models manufactured in 2014. Check the PIN (product identification number) on the front left hand side chassis of the machine and then check with John Deere Australia (AU Freecall: 1800 800 981) that...Read more

Cuts Irregular
I was sold on John Deere. But for the past three years the 54" machine has been back to the dealer two to three times each mowing season to adjust the deck. It lasts less than two hours and continues to cut uneven. The yard looks like a test strip for a bad mower. The dealer's maintenance people have no idea what is wrong. They say they have check with JD and still no answer. I have asked to replace the deck and see if that is the problems, but of course that has not happened. At the end of this summer if it is not corrected and running properly, I will get rid of this machine. After paying $5000+, I expected more from the product and the dealership.

John Deere X500 - Greatest Ride On Ever!
I have owned a John Deere LX280 with a 42" deck for 6 years and thought it was a really well built, strong ride on. The 18hp Kawasaki twin engine was superb. However I finally decided to get a new beast and after much consideration and research, I settled on the X500 Multi-Terrain garden tractor with a 54" Edge Extra deck - and what a beast it is!
It has a 26Hp Kawasaki twin engine that is superb - smooth, reasonably quiet but boy does it have some grunt. And the deck has a higher capacity than the 100 series Edge decks and has much heavie...Read more

You need to check your operator's manual to see if your Kawasaki engine is the FH721 (25 HP) or the FS730V (24 HP). If you do not have the operator's manual, telephone your John Deere dealer with the PIN number (front right hand side on chassis) and they will tell you what model the engine is.
Contact the small engine warehouse with the model number and they will courier a brand new Kawasaki engine to you or alternatively courier new pistons, bearings, crankshaft, etc. Cost for new engine is approx $2300.

Thanks Jackson... your advice is very much appreciated. It would appear that the 1770hr operational work useage of my current John Deere X500 has reached the limit of its life now that the machine, when under workload is misfiring, surging, running erratically etc despite cleaning of carburettor, adjusting valve settings, new fuel line filter, new spark plugs, new air filter, new butterfly clip in carby, etc. My mechanic is at his "wits end" and knows not where to turn to remedy the problem. Cheers
