N520H Kelvinator Fridge
We bought our N520H Kelvinator Fridge in 2003. After two years, we had to have the motor replaced. Last month, the bottom shelf lug of the inner door panel which holds the bottom shelf came off. I had ordered a new inner door panel which cost $66.10. I could not see how to fit it on as it had no screws. So I had to call their 1-900 number at around $2 per minute only to find out that this part no longer works due to a change of assembly process and I was then forced to buy a whole door at $257.40. I felt this was totally unfair that consumers ar...Read more
e forced to pay so much money because Kelvinator changed it's assembly process by foaming in the door inner panel so that it is no longer a seperate part. For what! savings of a few cents in screws or maybe a dollar in the assembly time! Secondly, these door inner panels lugs have a design fault in that being in a weight bearing area, they have not been reinforced. Why could they not design a few simple ribs in the lug to prevent this sort of thing happening? The problem I have now is the door will not seal properley as it cannot be aligned correctly. There is not adjustment in the pivot pin area, perhaps again to save cost in the assemby process. I would keep on looking for another Fridge Good for about two years1 comment

OK
This is an uninspiring fridge that does what we need. It keeps food cool in the fridge and cold in the freezer. The biggest downfall is that it not frost free. For our family it is really not big enough. We have not had any of the failures that others have mentioned. Nothing has broken, nothing is loose, and everything has worked perfectly for the last five years. If I were in the market for another fridge I wouldn't buy this one for the reasons stated above, but we got an excellent price on this fridge and it has never missed a beat.
Reliable, keeps things cool/cold
Does not self defrost.

Excellent
The glass slide in shelves are wonderful for cleaning and the roller operated drawers easy to remove for cleaning. Vegetables seem to last for weeks in the vegetable drawers at the bottom and the deli section under the top shelf keeps food fresh and moist. I am very happy with this model fridge and would highly recommend it to anyone purchasing a fridge.
Good size, reliable, easy to clean shelves and slide out drawers. I have had mine 4yrs and had no trouble with it. I am pleased I selected this particular fridge.
The only thing I can say is...Read more

Terrible
All the plastic shelves have cracked. The door has always been a problem since the start. Kelvinator just kept packing the door, when in fact they should have changed the base on which the door hinges.
Given this experience I will never buy a kelvinator again.
Cools fast
The base assembly on which the bottom door hinges cracks. However you cannot see this because of the front plastic cover at the bottom of the door. Hence the door does not align. In my case the bottom right foot on which the door is hinged finally broke and now I have to find a way to fix it. Do you know where I can get a spare part, if there is one.
Regards,
Carl.

w door each time luckly I took the extended warrantry. The door seals have now gone and I am told you have to buy a new door for $300.00 as the seals are part of the door itself. What a silly design. I guess we have to buy a new fridge as the motor could go again so no more Kelvinator fridges for me...They used to be a great brand go for 20 years plus...Similar opinion? I may have a solution to your problem. I have a N520J-R. The drink holder on the bottom of the fridge door was hitting the bottom of the fridge which caused the door not to close properly. If you ha... Read more
ve a look you may see that the seal on the opposite side to the hinge there may be a gap letting cold air from the fridge. I too thought it was the door that had dropped. I took off the freezer door then the main door and had a look at the plastic insert in the bottom of the fridge door. It looked a bit worn but not to much. I had a look at the black metal door pivit that is goes into and that to did not look that worn. I took the plastic insert from the door and took it down to the parts supplier. After getting little advice he said it was the metal pivit attached to the bottom of the fridge. I went home not believing him as I thought that plastic would worn out before metal. When I got home I changed the plastic fridge door insert for the one in the freezer door even though there was not much difference. Just before I replaced the door I gave a tap to the outside of the door pivit plate. Guess what? It moved a few millimetres. And that was enough for the door to be out of alignment at the top and causing the opposite side of the hinge to drop letting the bottom of the door to hit the bottom of the fridge. I got my son to pull back the fridge pivoting on the rear wheels and tightened the two screws holding the pivit plate on. IT WORKKED!!!!. The door is now aligned. The door does not hit the bottom the fridge any more and it closes like it should. So before you take off the doors give the black metal pivit plate a tap on the side. If it moves just slightly then that may be all the problem is. No need to take off the doors. Hope this assists others. Cheers Bob.
