2011 sorento
Our 2011 was a terrible vehicle, purchased new in 2011 from dealership in Regine, Saskatchewan, Canada. Lemon from the start, hvac problems, bluetooth problems and tranny trouble. Dealership would do nothing with the tranny saying the hard shift was normal. I should have been given another vehicle. The dealership is not knowledgeable and I would strongly recommend not buying a Kia at that dealership

2012 Sorento 2.2, Diesel, Manual
We bought our Sorento 2.2 diesel manual new in 2012, now have 62,000km on the clock. We tow a Jayco poptop weighing approx 1950kg quite a bit, fuel economy is fantastic, towing & not. We can fuel up in Logan City & drive to Sydney, over 1000km, now thats good!!

Terrible customer service
I had a warranty claim when my MY08 Sorento diesel developed an engine problem. I was left without a vehicle for two months and the dealer and Kia Australia were unwilling to offer any replacement vehicle. To add insult to injury they did not even extend the warranty for the two months that they had the car. I would never buy another Kia.
Great car
Let down by lousy Australian customer service and servicing

A dream to drive! And a Kia ... who would have thought?!
Bought our demo (5,000k's) 2015 Sorento Platinum Diesel a couple of weeks ago and have been in heaven since! Never thought I would end up with a Kia, but after reading all the reviews, decided to take one for a test drive and loved it. Was a little concerned that the side and back visibility was going to be an issue (compared with my previous Holden station wagon which had brilliant visibility from every side), but the big side mirrors (love those big side mirrors!!) and reversing camera certainly make up for it.

lls and whistles that make this feel like a real luxury family vehicle. It's a dream to drive and the whole family love how comfy it is, even on longer drives (took it for a 6hr round trip last weekend with no complaints!). In normal steering mode it becomes a zippy town car that is easy to manoeuvre wherever you want it to go. But throw it into sports steering mode on windy long roads and highways and it sticks to the road like glue! Solid, well built, performs beautifully and with plenty of grunt in the diesel engine (be careful when accelerating as it's so effortless it's easy to go straight past the speed limit!). Early days yet but I'm in love with everything about this car. If you're after a beautiful 7 seater for the family with plenty of pizazz, make sure a Platinum Sorento is on your list!!

Simply the Best
Purchased the vehicle new in February 2014.I have driven the vehicle to work (a round trip of 100klm) 6 days a week and now have 42,600klms up.In that time I have found the fuel consumption to be as good and sometimes better than my wife's small sedan and can fit more people. There have been no issues whatsoever and the ride is fantastic. In the first year I saved just over $5,000 in fuel costs alone.I thought the diesel I had was good.....but this one brilliant.

Warranty Great ! Until you need to use it.
We have a 2014 platinum. At 80K front seat has collapsed and foam crumbling. I have been told this is normal wear and tear, and not covered. I see now they are offering an 7 year warranty. Sounds great until you need to use it. Then watch them duck for cover with every excuse under the sun.

Timing chain failure after 5years and 16 days and 95,000 kms
Without warning the timing chain on our MY08 Kia Sorento 2.5L diesel failed, causing catastrophic damage to the motor. The incident occurred on the 16th day past expiry of the new car warranty. Kia Australia and the dealership we bought it from (our second new car in succession from that dealership)) don't want to know, and are saying it was caused by inferior oil. We've had the vehicle serviced at authorized service centers according to vehicle specifications, so that is a lie. Repairs cost $8,800.00. It was the third significant mechanical fa...Read more
ilure since we purchased it. For previous repairs we've had to wait for long periods of time for small parts to be forwarded from Kia Australia or from Korea (to WA). They haven't heard of air mail. Has anyone else had similar issues with the timing chain or combustion chamber, or know anything about the US class action against Kia for camshaft problems?Similar opinion? Koreans rival the Japanese for quality.
We bought a 2010 Platinum as a demo and had it for nearly 4 years before trading up to a Prado. It was a very good car which towed our Jayco pop up eagle effortlessly with the gutsy diesel engine and was very confortable. The suspension was a bit firm as we felt almost every bump, something that was noticable once we test drove a Prado which was a more comfortable ride but I'm told Kia have addressed that issue since. Up til then it was the best car I've owned. As much as the Prado is a nice big rig, it's overkill for what we need.

Kia Sorento - a good solid performer
I have had the turbo diesel Kia Sorento since new. My wife has mobility issues, and we did the rounds of similar vehicles looking for best option for entry end exit, automatic, and turbo diesel, and the Sorento ticked the boxes. Runs smoothly, enough torque to get out of trouble. Only issue was towing capacity restricted weight of caravan that I could buy. Had the car 5 years still happy with handling and comfort. Only additional cost was replace battery at just under 5 years. Would buy another!!

So much to love
I never thought I would buy a Kia but after reading reviews on this site I decided to take a look and am so glad I did.
It is packed with so many great features - seat warmers/coolers, doors automatically lock when you start driving, push start, moonroof, sun shades on rear windows, I could keep going on forever!
The drive is also very smooth and comfortable.
Only things that could be improved are middle seats don't get a lot of aircon- this is fine once car has cooled down, if 3rd row is in use no room in the boot and we have had a few minor problems with the sat nav (which I will let them know about at the next service).
I have had the car for 6 months and very happy with it.

Worst car ever
I bought this car almost 2 years ago, only had 105,000k's on the clock, full service history, ran nice for the first 6 months, I did buy a warranty and they did fix the front brakes and the fuel sender unit, but when the engine started leaking oil and running very hot there was no warranty to cover the things that were wrong anymore, replaced the tappet cover gaskets and the valve seals and the top tank overflow bottle and then the rear engine seal, radiator, hoses and plugs and leads, computer had to be reset 4 times until they got it right, n...Read more
ow a month later it started stalling for no reason, complete electric stall, the car yard where it bought it from cant fix it so off to Kia, now it is getting a new crankshaft sensor and a cam shaft sensor!!!!!! WHAT NEXT I ASK !!!!!!!!!!!. Total cost to me so far, just under $7500 on top of what I paid for it but to add insult to injury I went to trade it in on a almost $30,000.00 car and was told my trade value was only $4500.00 to $5000.00, I paid $16000.00 not 2 years ago. Not a happy camper. This was going to be the car to tow my van around Australia in my retirement. Don't think this will happen now. When i first got it i loved it for it comfort and power, leather and wood finish, looked brand new when I got it 20ltrs per hundred around town2 comments

Good SUV
I tossed up between a Subaru Outback Diesel and the Sorento. They were both the same price. Previously had a Subaru outback, 400,000km, 13 years and no problems. Car still nice to drive and using little oil when traded. The Sorento is not as refined as the Subaru but it is spacious, comfortable, very economical (7.4l/100 around the city, 6.3 on the highway) and has good torque. Subaru is better regards quietness, smoothness and in a higher league for roadholding. Things I didn't like about the Subaru were the interior styling and lack of space....Read more
Bought the Kia because I didn't agree with the Japanese whale hunting. Done 12,000km in the Sorento, like driving it, wife loves it, uses a bit of oil, half way between full and low at 12,000km. early days yet. Performance, economy and space. 3rd row AC stopped and uses abit of oil. Handling a bit agricultural.6 comments

w. Fuel economy continues to impress as does performance. Getting good life out of tyres, half worn at this km. Brake pads have only lost 10% at this time. Brilliant car with all the capability needed
Have owned a 2009 (manufactured 2007) Sorento diesel Auto from new. Have done 105k Km. At least 75k of it towing a 2200kg caravan all over Australia. It has been superb. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong. I do change the oil every 5000km though, and check it over very thoroughly often. It has towed in 45 degree heat across the Nullabor, and 5 degree cold in Canberra and the temp gauge stays in exactly the same spot. The fuel consumption whilst towing is exceptional. We get about 650km on one tank (79) liters whilst towing! We don't travel at mo...Read more
re than 100kph except if absolutely necessary. I have had to overtake a greyhound bus at up to 120kph and flew past it with plenty of power to spare. The gearbox is fabulous, and seems to know exactly what gear is needed all the time under all driving conditions. We have done some extreme 4 x 4 trips and even extracted a Landcruiser V8 Troop Carrier in the Bungle Bungles, much to his disgust. There is not a single rattle in the car. The only negatives I can think of are: The last 10 liters in the fuel tank take ages of stop start to fill up. Very annoying if other people are waiting for diesel. Ride can be quite bumpy, but usually because of the higher pressures needed for towing. Paint is a little soft and easily scratched. But I use a good wax every 3 months and generally the scratches come out well. My wife has put her feet up on the dashboard and scratched the plastic. Nothing that Armorall protectorant can't disguise. The Kia towbar was sold to us by the salesman, and I specified that I would be using the weight distribution hitch, but the bar arrived with a sticker on that specified that a WDH could not be used. After a great deal of huffing and puffing, Kia produced a document saying it could be used provided the requirements of the Hayman Reece bars are adhered to. Ie no reversing, or sharp corners or humps. So we disconnect the bars on entry to caravan parks and only reconnect them when outside the park.1 comment
How to choose between this, Honda CR-V 2.4 and Suby Outback 2.4 ..... I would have loved petrol but here we only have the 2.2 Diesel. And our Diesel quality is suspect...water, grit, etc.

Best of all worlds
KIA Sorento 7 seater, 4x4 Diesel, 2.2 L. Big, reliable, fuel efficiency is ridiculous.
Can get 800 km comfortably on a tank. The car may be 7.5 out of 10 for looks but when all the other factors are taken into account it is surely the belle of the ball.
They have thought of everything.
Third row doesn't have much side viewing window.

Best in its class... 7-Seater... Most fuel efficient in its class... Amazing Features... Love the smooth drive and it's the most affordable of all SUVs that can seat 7!!! Great suspension, better than Kluger and more responsive than both Toyota Kluger & Mazda CX-9. Am very happy. Have owned a Honda Odyssey previously and they are a nice car too, and I rate them the best people mover... but Sorento SLi is a great 7-seater SUV package. And didIi mention the 8-year warranty which includes 5-yrs manufacturer and then another 3 years if I service with the dealer at capped price service!! Excellent use of space, Great interior, Nice steering feel, suspension, silent engine, fuel economy, and warranty!! The Kumho tyres could be bettered...i will get them replaced with softer Bridgestones; And audio speakers could be better too...decent but not the best...am thinking of putting in Pioneers all over.Similar opinion? I spent a couple of weeks going around car yards
I spent a couple of weeks going around car yards and surfing the net looking for a 7-seater diesel with good fuel economy and leather seats. (I'm sick of constantly filling my 2001 3.8l v6 commodore).
I looked at Toyota, Jeep, Mazda cx9, Territory, VW, Hyundai, Captiva, Dodge... but they were all wrong: either too expensive, not big enough, too big, wrong engine (v6 petrol).
I was about to give up when I saw a Kia dealership and thought, why not? I test drove a 2011 Sorento Premium and was immediately hooked. I cleared the purchase with t...Read more
he missus and went back to buy it, but it had been snapped up. Ended up buying an ex demo 2013 Premium with 2,200km on the clock for 10k less than sticker price. Bling? Yup, it's got bling and panoramic sunroof and all, but for me it's all about the engine! Once you get up to 40 - 50 km/h and above it smooths right out. It has way more useable grunt than the commodore, and even though I can't help putting the boot in and taking the long way home (it's such fun to drive), I'm still getting good economy. It is a very stable, sure-footed vehicle on the road and I'm looking for a reason to take it slightly off road to see what it's like. The only quibbles I would have are the console screen catches too much sunlight and becomes unreadable sometimes, and the fact that there isn't a lot of headroom. I'm 5'10 and I'm fine in front and rear seats, but I wouldn't want to be too much taller. 5 year warranty, 5 year service, 5 year roadside assist, Kick-[censored word removed] engine, great ride, FUN Not much headroom, console screen glareSimilar opinion? Fantastic SUV
We bought the Sorento Platinum about 5 weeks ago. Love this car, exceeds everything we wanted. The seats are fantastic, even more comfortable than my Honda Accord. The power in the little 2.2 turbo diesel is amazing, overtaking is a breeze. The fuel economy is even better, i'm down to as low as 6,6lt / 100 klm's. Would recommend to anyone wanting a value packed all rounder.
Power, Fuel economy, Seats, Sun Roof, Build Quality.
Plastics scratch easily. Nothing else.

it hovering around 8.5L/100km at about 8,000k's, but not concerned any more. Fuel tank seems to last so long now! Acceleration, over taking and highway driving is sooo effortless and I always feel safe driving this car, wherever we may be. Last night had to break hard and quick for a deer crossing the road and it responded beautifully. Felt very firm and secure under hand and foot. Only minor complaints (if I have any) would be it's a little loud and noisy in the cabin sometimes (depending on what surface you're driving on) and high beam lights are really not so great, so we added a small light bar to the front bull bar and now we can see everything :)
