Like Emily A said, I buy my coffee pre ground from the supermarket. It lasts me for ages if I only have one or two cups a day. I buy a big bag and then put it in an airtight container in the fridge along with the scoop/tamper. It will pour hot water if you don't put any coffee in the cup part that sits under the device. You could grind your own coffee beans but that's personal choice.

If it's where I think you mean, that's to hold your porta filter when not in use & the second filter. Hope that helps.

Elaine, Is this a new machine or have you been using it for a while? It the latter then try doing an internal clean as per the instructions and jing713 below.
I have to say though, that the instructions are rather lacking. I have had my machine for several months and have only just found out that the chrome milk spout extension comes off (twist anti-clockwise and pull it down). The little rubber-covered spigot that pushes into the machine is also removable for cleaning.

Can the machine make big cups? I tried to click 2 times and then 3 second push that you then turn off when it's full (if I understood it right)? Still only fill tiny amount, same with Cappuccino. I have to start 3 or 4 times for a mug of coffee.

Anna, I have the same problem, I mean who wants a small coffee? I pack the large filter up to the MAX mark and then double click the cappuccino button and when it stops single click the cappuccino button. I have the froth control on low (I want coffee not a mug of frothy milk). This gives me an acceptable mug of fairly strong coffee (but that probably depends on the coffee you use). The level in the mug is a bit erratic from one mug to the next but I can live with that because it is so much easier than using the Delonghi Latissima. If I was really feeling a caffeine deficit I could top up the mug using the small filter and the espresso button.

We are following instructions but the water is not heating and neither is the milk, what are we doing wrong.

Hi Rosemary. I'm only a user, not an expert on this machine. The only thing I can think of is the machine isn't working properly. My understanding of the machine is that the milk doesn't heat directly, it is heated by the steam. The steam also extracts the coffee from the grounds so that if the milk isn't hot neither will the coffee be.
If you are waiting for the blue lights to stop flashing before trying to make coffee then I would suggest taking the thing back to Kmart with the receipt.

Thanks for that Jeff. My husband put warm water in the water thingo and that seems to have been the problem. After much swearing and cursing I finally got a very nice cup of coffee. Thanks again for your help.

Which coffee is best to use with the kmart semi automatic coffee machine

Marge, Use the coffee that you like (I am using Lavazza No5 because I like it but might look for something more intense). This is a fine grind and seems to work well in the machine. If the coffee is too coarse the water just passes through. I am using a double cappuccino plus a single cappuccino with the large filter for a mug of coffee. It works for me.

I just bought this machine and it isn’t working. I’ve tried fine grade ground coffee which might be the problem so I’m about to try a courser grade bean as suggested. What I would like to know is how do you get into the filter area and what coffee are others using?

I'm using Lavazza #5 and find it works fine and also I like the taste. I don't know anything about the internal workings of the machine, just the end result.

Sorry Ann but I can only suggest sticking it in the microwave for 30 seconds. I had the same problem with the DeLonghi Latissima.

Try doing a cleaning routine with half a tank of vinegar in the water tank as per the instructions. I think it's helped mine achieve higher temperatures (?)
I got this tip from a Mr Coffee Cafe Barista review on Amazon US FYI.
