All the windows in my town house in Canberra have been double glazed with Magnetite. It is now time to replace three sliding doors. If I were to use Magnetite for the doors which I am inclined to do, would you recommend a particular company to replace my wooden framed doors?

Hi, I am thinking of getting this product for my two front windows which face a busy highway. What might be a problem is that i have a wood/fibro cottage which is quite a thin material as opposed to brick. Has anyone had magnetite fitted in a house similar to mine and if so, does it still work?
Thanks

Loyal customerasked

Hi there,

We live about 30 metres away from a very busy train line and due to a slight curve near our home, the trains produce excruciating noise/wheel squeal that has made our daily life unbearable. To get help reduce these noise levels, I have the following questions:

- Can Magnetite solution (acrylic panels) be slided/glided just like normal glass window? We wouldn't want a panel which is easily removable. Therefore, something that can be slided/glided horizontally would be most preferred
- How is Magnetite different from Soundtite? How much noise reduction does Soundtite provide in comparison to Magnetite windows? Are there any test certificate that can be sighted to show standard high-frequency noise like ours?
- We need a solution to minimise high frequency noise such as train wheel squeal which is different from normal traffic noises. Please advise if Soundtite is more suitable in this instance.

Could you please get back to me on this at the earliest to help us take an informed decision?

Thanks & regards

Yes the panels slide. I do not take them out of place.

I dont know the difference between Soundtite, best to call them and ask. I can say it has cut out a massive amount of traffic noise for us. If I had to guess nearly 80%. It was definitely worth it for us.

Hope this helps

Hi Loyal customer, thank you for your enquiry. Our double glazed window solutions are customised to suit your specific needs and requirements. This means that our systems can fit any shape or style of window. We do have Easyglide and Slider system if you wish not to remove the panels. Both our Magnetite (acrylic glazing) and Soundtite (laminated glass) system come in various thicknesses that would help to reduce a range of noise including high frequency noise. While windows are typically the greatest source of noise entering a room, it is important to understand that a room has other building elements that can allow unwanted noise inside for example walls or roof. We try to create a large air gap between our system and the existing windows to provide maximum noise reduction. Please visit https://www.magnetite.com.au/benefits/noise-reduction-technical-data-and-results.html to learn more about technical data and results for Noise Reduction. We suggest you take the advantage of our free in home assessment service. Our estimator will assess the situation and recommend the best solution that suits your need. We have heavy condensation during winter, will this help reduce moisture. We have a noise prob as well

1 answer

Magnetite A.Magnetite

Hi Dennis, thank you for your interest in Magnetite. Yes, Magnetite can help to reduce condensation appearing on existing windows as well as reduce noise coming in through the window. Magnetite uses optical grade acrylic glazing, with draught seals and window frames that limit heat transfer, to improve the insulation performance of the window. This reduces the likelihood of condensation forming on the glazing surface. Being a secondary system, Magnetite creates a maximum air cavity, which is the essence of double glazing. Generally, the larger the air cavity means better noise reduction. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions. Otherwise, you can take advantage of our free, no-obligation in-home assessment. To book the appointment, simply call us on 1300 738 763. Regards, the Magnetite team.

Hi
I live on the flight path of the main runway of Perth Airport and have a huge problem with aircraft noise especially early mornings. Most of the reviews that I have read recommending Magnetite are related to street level noise - just wondering if Magnetite is effective for aircraft noise as well please? Furthermore, my windows have venetian blinds so can Magnetite be fitted in these windows please? Would appreciate any comments and suggestions please. Thank you.

Hi Lillady, thank you for your enquiry. Magnetite offers a range of secondary glazing system to suit your concern. Both our Magnetite and Soundtite system come in various thickness that would help to reduce a range of noise including aircraft noise. While windows are typically the greatest source of noise entering a room, it is important to understand that a room has other building elements that can allow unwanted noise inside for example walls or roof. Re blinds, it will be subject to the depth of existing window reveal and where the current blinds sit. We try to create a large air gap between our system and the existing windows to provide maximum noise reduction. In most cases with blinds, we can relocate the blinds to accommodate for our secondary glazing system. It is best to take advantage of our free in home assessment. My best answer would be it depends on how loud the noise is. Louder noises sound further away but you would still most likely hear some sound if it's loud. So generally noise levels are reduced not cut out

Hi Kate08, thank you for your enquiry. Our secondary window systems can be fitted to windows or doors that have plantation shutters subject to the depth of window reveal or the gap between shutters and existing windows. In most cases, we relocate the shutters forward by creating a box out. This will allow us to install our system at a maximum air gap which will give you with the best noise reduction. It is best to get one of our estimator to do a site inspection. Our estimator will assess your existing windows and design a solution that will suit your requirement. It is free and no obligation. Please don’t hesitate to contact us on 1300 738 763 if you have any further questions or if you would like to arrange for the site inspection. Regards, the Magnetite team.

Hi Magnetite
Thanks for your reply! I had an inspection of my windows and yes, the shutters are in the way and need to be moved out. However, magnetite don’t do this anymore so I would need to get someone else in. Unfortunately this seemed like a lot of extra work and multiple trades. Just wanted to let you and others know. Thanks again.

Hi, Did anyone who install magnitite to keep cold air out, noticed difference in electricity bill? Or it is more for comfort - not depend on heater in winter or air conditioning in summer. I don't have noise as an issue so I want to estimate how many years I have to stay at this place to get back on electricity bill.
Also how the installation looks like - does it add value to the house or reduce it due to ugly looking second layer of glazing? I only see a vague pictures with installation so can't judge by them.

Definitely doesn’t look ugly, our new magnetite windows are very clean lined and blend well with windows and rooms.
Can’t help re bills as we had the system installed as we moved in to new commercial premises so have no comparison.

Hi Binaj, thank you for your enquiry. Both of our secondary glazing system, Magnetite and Soundtite can reduce noise up to 70% through your existing window. Generally, for high-frequency noise, a thicker glazing would provide a better noise reduction. We offer a FREE window assessment to help determine the best solution for your requirement. Should you be interested, please contact us on 1300 738 763 to book the appointment. Regards, the Magnetite team.

I have had a quote from magnatite and also a quote for a full window replacement from another company. For an extra 15% (approx) you get a full window replacement using argon gas in place of air, fully sealed aluminium frames that wind out and a built in fly screen. On demonstration the sound proofing seemed very good. Can you convince me on why your system is better than this and how it justifies he price?

I've had several issues ( please also see Magnetite facebook review it has photos of the issues) with my Magnetite installation here in Canberra as you'd be aware assuming you read my review.
But i cant speak for all Magnetite franchisors in other states as each is as i understand it a seperate business.
To fix the issue of the mismatched colours colours on my panel frames the local Magnetite installer has offerred to upgrade five of my windows from the original style Magnetite to the easyglide this will cost me $100 per window.

If you can get new Argon double glazed windows installed for 15% more then I would go with the Argon double glazing. .

Dear Dave,

Thank you for your question. We will need to understand a bit more about your situation before we can answer. Can you please advise if your main concern is for noise reduction, thermal insulation, condensation or a combination? Can you also please advise if your existing windows are aluminium or timber-framed. If you could also please expand on what was quoted in your Magnetite quote that would assist (glazing thickness 4.5mm vs. 10mm, system (Classic removable vs. Easy Glide vs. Slider) and if any carpentry work is quoted.

Assuming that the other window company is a member of the Australian Window Association they should have independent ratings on their windows which may help in understanding the performance of the different options. If you could let us know the acoustic rating (Rw) on the other window and the Window Energy Rating (WERS) of the other window that will allow us to more accurately comment/answer your question.

Should you feel more comfortable asking questions or sharing information privately please email to [email protected]

Sincerely

Hi. I'm in WA and I have been given a quote for Magnatite for noise reduction. I can see in your reviews a few customers mentioned soundtite?? Can you please tell me a little more about this? How is it different to Magnatite? why wasn't it mentioned to me? is it done here in WA?

Any info is appreciated.

Hi Mars, thank you for contacting us. Soundtite is a secondary aluminium system. Similar to Magnetite, it is installed to the inside of your existing window frame, creating a maximum air gap to provide the best noise reduction. What makes it different to Magnetite is that Soundtite uses laminated glass and can be designed to slide horizontally or vertically to match the existing aluminium window function and design. In some occasion, Soundtite may not be suitable due to limited space in the window reveal. If you like, we can get our WA team to review your quote and see if Soundtite would be a suitable solution for you. Please send us your contact detail via email to [email protected] so we can look up your quote detail in our system. Should you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. All these reviews are about sound-proofing. Has anyone had Magnetite installed for insulation from the cold? I would love to know if it works!

Yes I can confirm it does help with insulation. I am on 3rd level apartment with my window facing a main rd. I used to cop a whole heap of cold breeze especially at night during winter where my face would go numb. Now I can sleep without covering my face.

I would recommend to keep your existing window and install a Magnetite double glaze behind it if your window recess permits.

Best of luck.
