Miele W 5965 Washing Machine - Our machine is a dud!
After using Miele products in the past and being very happy with them, we purchased this model. My sister has an identical model and hasn't had any issues with it. Whereas, our experience has been completely different. Miele has been onsite on multiple occasions to address the issues, and while they look after us with the service pricing, the issues started after 12 months (I didn't realise we had a 2 year warranty) and have just been continual. Their customer service has been quite good, but that doesn't help you when you're trying to use a lemon.

Disappointed but resolved in the end...
We have had this machine since 2013 and now need to replace it because of second faulty motherboard in which the first one was smoking through the top of the machine! The first repair was under extended warranty (just) and the machine has never been the same since. The promise was when it was sold it’ll last 20 years! If you spend over $3,000 you expect quality built on a trusted name in the appliance industry. Also have a dryer which needed a thermostat change after 12 months. It’s not worth the money in my view.
Purchased in April 2021 at Harvey Norman.

Won't buy another
Everytime I wash my sheets, the washing powder doesn't dissolve no matter how little detergent I put in it or even when I wash immediately after the load with no detergent. I have tried liquid and powder. I don't overload it (usually it says 75%). So the sheets come out with white marks all over them. Would never buy another one.

Used to love Miele but everything Miele we buy is failing
Granted this washing machine is six years old now but has an Error 53 and will require replacing as the parts are likely to be more than the machine. I reckon Miele has been out 6 of 8 times for either the washer or dryer, mostly in the warranty / extended warranty period. Random faults they mostly can't explain but one definitely our fault where laundry bag cord left hanging out door and triggered leak sensor. Dried out fine by the time technician was due so cancelled that one. Dryer randomly drying for 4-6 hours on 30 min setting that they co...Read more
uldn't solve (too intermittent) and three visits on 6mo Miele microwave before replaced under warranty. Service is actually great and the staff are amazingly helpful and friendly but we got 13 years out of a F&P washer before without a single fault but have had a multitude of faults from every Miele appliance. I suspect their quality management is failing. They don't have a break-neck product cycle and most models appear to be around for 3-5 years before being replaced so not sure why the build quality / reliability is so bad.Purchased in February 2021 at Miele for $2,000.00.

Very happy.
Works well and has moved to a new home with out misshape. I like that it is quiet and takes a large wash. you can get a lot of water out of the cloths which is excellent for using a dryer. Love the light inside. Some of the features I have not used. lots of options.

This is the Dux nuts of washing machines.
This is by far the best washing machine I've ever owned with its large 8kg capacity I can keep up with my family of four. I love that it has a quick cycle and a hygienic cycle but still offers a long cycle for extra dirty loads. Every wash comes out clean and not to creased. Easy to operate, the kids can put on a load and it's silent. Would definitely recommend front loader over top load, clothes are never damaged and don't fade as fast.

Excellent washer
This is a brilliant, reliable washing machine. We had no need to call for service in the last 2 years we had it.It has many programs to choose from including short 20 and 30 minute ones. It washes clothes really well even on the short programs. It is gentle on the clothes and very quiet however it has a "quiet mode" which I have not had to use.
This machine is my best helper in the house,it is exceptionally easy to use and does the job perfectly every time whether it is a large piece of blanket, heavy towels or some delicate items. I love the...Read more

A great washing machine
We are very pleased with the performance of our Miele washing machine. It provides an efficient washing action whilst giving economy in water and electricity use . The clothes look cleaner and need less time to dry on the line after the spin cycle has finished. Would recommend the Miele washing machine to anyone

Was pretty happy until I had a problem and Miele couldn't give a damn
I bought my Miele washing machine with excitement thinking I was buying the best in the market.
I was pretty happy with the washing machine. Worked well. Had the further extras which I really liked also.
I haven't had it long now maybe six months. Then one wash I noticed water pouring out the front. I'm like what is happening. Open it up and a bit of rubber from the front bit has broken off. I was a little surprised seeing I've paid $2500 for this machine and have had it less then 6 months that this has happened. Since I've had a washing ma...Read more

Faulty installation, leading to property damage
Purchased this unit last Friday, delivered / installed the following Tuesday and left for a business trip the following day returning on the Friday to find that water had damaged our laundry cabinets due to defective installation by the technician who delivered the item (water inlet mechanism and hose were crammed in a difficult position causing a breakage in the pipe which lead to subsequent local flooding in the room. Miele have yet to call me back about how to resolve the matter..disappointed in the lack of professionalism on installation / contacting me about having this issue resolved.

Disappointed: Small, neat holes appear on T-shirts!
I was divided between the Asko and the Miele with the Steam Function. Having used the Miele for 6 months now, I do about 2 loads every few days, sometimes 4 loads on a sunny day of the weekend. The average load is 75%. I have found that :
1. The Steam Function is really Not necessary unless you wash a LOT of shirts on their own cycle. I understood it also refreshed (odors & dust) difficult to wash items, clean clothes from a suitcase etc but it just damps them down.. Waste of money in my case.
2. The Cottons programme, which would be ...Read more
the most useful as it takes the full 8kg load and allows you to choose the max. temperature range and spin speed, puts SMALL HOLES into t-shirt material (old and brand new!), and TEARS the odd towel. It features the Intensive "A" Wash Rhythm, so I avoid it and search for an alternative programme (from Normal "B" to Hand Wash "F" wash rhythm). However, spin cycle is then restricted, depending on programme choice! I've called service regarding the rough treatment, and the young woman was understanding, but they will only send someone with the proviso that I pay a few hundred dollars IF it's not a fault of the machine. It's still under warranty. I'm not happy with the lack of information on why holes happen on the Cottons cycle, (I've read other similar reviews so am not alone), and that I may have to pay to find out. 3. The Doona cycle was an important extra, however, my Queen size down doona OVERLOADED the machine, so that feature is also useless to me!! 4. The Asko had a lovely wide and thin front opening, without a rubber lining that collects water and catches clothes, plus my sister and a friend both love theirs and highly recommend it. In hindsight, I wish I'd bought it instead.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Fantastic, quality built product
It's your classic story - after 23 years using my solid, quality built Gorenje Pacific washing machine (amazingly still going, but behind the times with programme choices, power/water saving, etc) it was time to upgrade. As Gorenje no longer have agents in Australia, my search led me immediately to Miele - who I have always considered to be on par with my quality old machine.

its aroma. However, being a practical woman, I had to look beyond the emotive aspect and look at the functionality of Miele's entire washing machine range. I was immediately attracted to the 'steam care' function for my husband's shirts. This lead me to a comparison of the top W1 machine WKR 770 WPS and the W 5965 WPS Aus (the older run out model), as they each have steam care. As a general rule, I conduct washes for whites, darks, cottons, delicates, hygiene, sportswear and shirts. All of Miele's current washers have these programmes.Similar opinion? Happy with the washer-follow up from previous post
Update.. After i follow up with Miele Customercare Advocate, they replace new machine, which has no dirt in drum rubber seal, however the next day noticed there is a big gap between the top lid and the control panel. I contact them again and they replace again with brand new W5965, finally i am happy with the machine, there is no gap between the lid or no dirt/stain in drum rubber seal. As of 3rd machine i am very happy and thanks to miele customer advocate team,

Good machine but some issues...
So I decided on a Miele 5965 after having.a Bosch.FL.for about 7 years. Was looking.for a machine that would wash.delicates gently as I spent too long handwashing! I.was.very disappointed and surprised to find the Miele really tough on clothing, even.hubby complained about his shirts and he's not fussed usually. Tried Delicate and Silk cycles, extra water, low spin, low detergent, small loads with no.improvements. I called Miele thinking, this can't be right, to.their credit they sent a technician right away and he went.thru.the settings, findi...Read more
ng.that a number of them that would influence wash and spin action were set to.Off rather than On. Once these were adjusted along with water levels, there is definitely.some improvement. However I.do.still find clothing.is more stretched than I would like on.the gentle cycles and pilling is still more prevalent than on my.old Bosch. Clothes are very clean and I love the way it washes items such.as trainers, doonas, towels etc, but I can't agree about it.being the gentlest on clothing, which is how it's marketed. Either that or there is something.amiss with manufacturing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Ruining clothes.
The washing machine has ruined our clothes. Our clothes that are Cotton/Polyester mix blend, were perfectly fine in our old Miele front loader - are now pilling like crazy with this new machine. After 2-3 washes, they look so worn, ball-y, and old! We were so excited to get this machine, and invested a lot of money into it. It is so sad and frustrating.
They claim that the HoneycombCare drum makes your clothes last 4 times longer - it is the complete opposite! We are throwing out ruined clothes at an alarming and expensive rate.

point, I actually have more trust in a laundromat over this machine. We've tried all the different settings and options (and there are many) and I only use delicate liquid detergent. I also use fabric softener. I haven't found an option that works yet. These new machines use limited water, however, it seems the limited water does not provided enough lubrication between the items, causing them to rub against each other creating pills. There are settings that allow "Water Plus" but pills still develop. It's rather ridiculous that with all the bells, whistles, and price tag the machine comes with - there isn't one option that doesn't pill clothes. We know it is the machine, not the dryer, because I hang dry majority of these clothes.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Terrible Installation & Customer Service
Maybe I'm expecting too much, but for $3.6k I'd like a washing machine that is correctly installed and doesn't 'walk' out of the cupboard each time I use it. I'd also expect some customer service. I've called twice now: the first time I spoke to a rude guy who said he couldn't pass on any messages to the installer as I would need to speak to him in person. After the installer 'fixed' the issue of the machine shifting during the spin cycle it happened again. This time I spoke to Tracey who advised that the same installer [who had done a shabby j...Read more
ob the first two tomes] could have another look, but I would be unable to request a different installer. I advised I was not happy with this so she said she would call me back. Four days later and I am still waiting for the call... Also the machine collects water in the rubber seal of the door. For the amount of money spent I would really not expect such a troublesome product and woeful customer service. Customer service / machine shifts when in use / water in door seal2 comments
If you are not happy with your Miele you can return under their 30 day money back guarantee. It is normal for some water to collect in the seal.

Great machine
We had our previous front loader (samsung) for around 5 years before it packed it in and thought that wasn't a bad machine except for being quite noisy.
This Miele is just a brilliant, solid piece of work. The wash quality when compared to our last machine is far better, along with it being virtually silent from outside the laundry.
My partner wears quite thick business shirts and the steam function doesn't seem to do a great deal for those but does improve ironing required for thinner type shirts.
As mentioned in other posts, we have a towel...Read more

No complaints - it washes, it's quiet, it steams :)
I am a proud owner of the Miele W5965 WPS. It was installed by Miele technicians who had to carry the 100kg washing machine up a flight of stairs as the laundry closet is located on the 2nd floor of my townhouse. This thing honestly is built like a tank!! The machine is particularly quiet and simply gets the job done! What more could you want?? Yes, it's an expensive bit of tech, but the steam function means I literally no longer need to iron my business shirts, thus saving me time, and to some extent energy on using a hand held steam iron tha...Read more
t I would have otherwise had to purchase. Yes, some items may need a little ironing but its true, it reduces ironing by up to 50%! Honestly, you get what you pay for. I personally hate washing as laundry day is an unsexy thing, but this Miele 5965 makes it an absolute pleasure and joy to use! Steam function reduces the need for ironing. Quiet operation. Clothes come out clean as it should. Built like a tank! Water collects in the rubber seal. You'll need to ensure you use a sponge to soak up the water that collects in the door seal to reduce any damp smell. The price is rather steep for a washing machine!Similar opinion? NOT HAPPY, JAN!!
BUYERS BEWARE ... I recently took delivery of my Miele washing machine and its 'matching' dryer - however, I am, as yet, unable to use either due to installation issues. Why? No-one, from retailer Harvey Norman, nor Miele, informed me that these stacking appliances (replacing a previously stacked washer and dryer) could NOT be installed by Miele on our existing plinth due to Miele's policy. Their Technical Manager quoted policy/OHS issues associated with installation on a plinth, asked me whether our plinth could withstand 300kg of downward pr...Read more
essure, particularly when both washer and dryer are simultaneously in use, and asked did I have an Engineer's certificate to this effect. Our 'custom built' laundry was installed about 12 years' ago to take a Kleenmaid 'stacked' washer and dryer on a plinth as we have a slate floor and uneven surface. The Miele installer noted that they are not allowed to install appliances on a plinth, but only on a level concrete or tile floor. He also said this was not the first time that they were unable to perform an installation due to plinth issues, so others have also been caught out. The installers had to remove the existing appliances to prepare for the installation but failed to notice that they were sitting on a plinth. They had also removed the packing from the washer before checking that the installation space was up to Miele's 'standards'. This was an urgent purchase as my Kleenmaid washer 'blew up' last Sunday morning, and, following research and the fact we have another Miele appliance, I chose this brand for its reliability, endurance and positive comments from other buyers and headed to my nearest Miele agent. You have offered to refund the $50 installation fee, but now I'm up for a cabinetmaker's inspection/problem fix and a plumber to install the appliances. It's nearing the end of the week and everyone is busy, so I'm still waiting ... So, come on, Miele, your website looks slick, but you need to publish appliance specifications, including installation/OHS matters on your website and training up your agents. Star Rating - one star only for installation, because I can't give it no stars. Meile - publish ALL specifications, including installation/OHS for your appliances on your website and train up your agents!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Hi.. Best cycle for Towels for my W 5965 Miele Front Loader?
Thanks H.
1 answer
Hayley it depends how you dry them and how you enjoy your towels to end up. Drying in a dryer you just do cotton as the dryer will take less time and take all the wrinkles out. If you hang them on a line you do minimum iron or the dryer if you want them extra fluffy . I personally use cotton even though I use a cloths line because they take no time to dry they almost come out dry, and I generally have lots of wind at my place. :) hope I have been of some help.

How do I clean the dark mildew on the front rubber door seal....and why does this happen? It looks very ugly and is now making my clothes dirty but I can't clean it off

Always do maintenance cycles once a month! so 95degree cottons cycle with no clothes in the machine and always make sure you leave the door and detergent drawer slightly ajar to dry out once not in use. Don’t leave it closed when not in use
