Can I have coffee during the day?

My doctor said no milk but then said - just enough for tea or coffee
However I only drink coffee black
But I went off coffee because I can't enjoy coffee without real sugar
Also I feel healthier without my coffee habit
But you can drink it.
Bear in mind it is a Diuretic

Hi Dance, The coffee shake didn't taste much like coffee, so I added another 2 heaped teaspoons of coffee to the shake. All flavour, no calories, all taste. I also drank tea with lite milk & sugar (no-no), but I still lost weight & am very pleased with Optislims result.

I've been on Optislim rapid for seven weeks and finding them very convenient. l add berries in the morning shake and banana at lunch with a few crushed nuts it taste like a banana split, however l lost 5 kg in the first 4 weeks and nothing since my friend has the same problem even though our dinner is a salad or something light. Is this normal to stall with the weight loss?

Considering you're not meant to eat bananas, have you even read the instructions that come with it?

Thanks for your reply however banana is on the list to choose, and it's not on a daily basis, not giving up so l will try another way .

Bananas are not on my list. Do you mean banana shake? Are there starchy veg in your salad?
You can stall. John Dixon at Baker Institute has means of stopping the stall but I haven't stalled yet.
If you are on platinum and using milk switch to classic and use water. Dixon told me not to use Platinum cos it's not as good

Hello! What fiber supplement do you take with Optislim?

None, 2 cups of brocoli at night but I don't even bother most nights with that and been putting Sriracha sauce on it to make it edible. Sometimes I'll have a boiled egg or two (basically zero carbs) and put some salt on it.

Carlina

I don't use any but I have a really good probiotic eery day which helps a little
Also cabbage salads like coleslaw.
I use Chinese Wombok to make a delicious salad.
Heaps of fibre and quite fillling.. It's a nice delicate leafed cabbage with juicy crisp stalks.

You need to follow the program it states that you should not eat carbs ie bread .
If you are serious about losing weight you have to really go on the intensive program that a shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch, a shake for dinner plus 2 cups of vegetables yes it's hard but the results are amazing and don't forget to drink plenty of water that will help if you are feeling hungry.

No I don't think so, that is why is very crucial to have two cups of veggies every day to regulate your bowels and give you that extra kick with vitamins and minerals to help you with cravings and to go trough the day with ease. I personal put my veggies in to nutribullet and mix then with shakes or have them separately as a snack in between meals. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Hi Adi, i am no expert with what is good for u or not. I just googled what lean cuisine meals are, my personal opinion, it should be fine.

I dont follow the optislim eating plan. I changed it to suit me seeing how I know how body works. No carbs or sugar! Loads of meat n vegies.

Week two now and my stomach has shrunk dramatically and i still try to eat a lot. I have now lost nearly 9 kgs.

I know im going off subject. Lean cuisine meals.... I say go for it lol

Hope this helps in some way.

All the best

I have been on Optislim shakes for three weeks and have lost 3kg. What happens if I stay on the drinks longer than the three weeks? Will I get sick or not. I would like to stay on it for another couple of weeks - maybe include a salad or something every 2nd night - would that be ok. Thankyou.

How many shakes a day are you drinking? If you're on the full plan with no meals, you should also be having at least 2 cups of vegies every single day, not just every two days. Also, what is your BMI? This sort of VLCD is dangerous if under 30BMI, so make sure you're not putting your health at risk.

Liz
Liz

Thankyou "rochgurl" for answering my question. I really didn't think anyone would. My BMI is 25.3 and I am having 3 shakes a day with 2 cups of vegetables, a snack bar in the afternoon and maybe an apple at night after my shake.

Like I said, these shakes aren't a magic bullet and you have to make a serious lifestyle change. If done correctly, they put your body into ketosis which burns fat as a main source of energy. Your brain requires around 400 calories of glucose per day to function and limiting any glucose (sugar) makes your body turn fat into glucose (gluconeogenesis). These shakes are a simple way to transition into ketosis for beginners. I used to survive on 2 shakes a day at the start and 1 big meal (usually a big bowl of salad and some form of meat eg. tuna, ham, bacon, meatballs). The good thing about ketosis is that it doesn't restrict how much FAT you can have, just how much SUGAR, as they are very different in how your body metabolizes them.

In short, if you take these shakes you have to stay under 20g of carbohydrates (sugars) a day. If you do this you will lose weight. It also regulates your hunger so don't feel hungry and that 1 meal a day is enticing (think bacon with mozzarella and eggs, yum!) But no sugar (not even sauce)!! You would be surprised how many things have sugar in them.

Good luck!

I have a large cup of green beans together with about 6 stalks of steamed asparagus once a day. They certainly fill me up. I also have the usual vanilla shake as well. I really love the vanilla drinks. I have lost 4 nearly 5k in 3 weeks so I really recommend it.

What the difference between optislim and optifast?

Loser47

Hi, The only difference between optislim and optifast is the price and taste. Other than that there really is no difference. Optislim offer a better variety with shakes, bars ect! I've tried optifast shakes and bars and there not as nice as optislim and are quite expensive. There's also another one called proslim from the maker of optislim, it's available at Priceline. Optipharm Pty Ltd is the company that make's both of them. Good Luck with your weight loss.

Regard's,

Beverley.

Carlina
Carlina

I checked it out. Oplislim has a factory in Clayton Vic Australia. I cannot find evidence that they are not an Australian company.
However Optifast is Nestle and they don't have a great history ethically speaking.
That said, the products are much of a muchness.
Optifast has a nice pudding /mousse and their bars are moister but waxier than Optislim
Kickstart is also the same but with some interesting flavour alternatives.
Kickstart also gave me 84 free meal replacements and a real support program working with my doctor and health insurer

Best to ask the GP who has given you your current script.

Taken from their website:
"The Optislim LCD Life shakes and soups are only a food, however, there are some medications that may need to limit certain vitamins and minerals to prevent them interfering with absorption (eg limiting iodine for thyroid medication)."

Yeah i agree with Callum K. Im on medication too so I asked my GP before I started. Wish you all the best!

1 answer
Rachael
Rachael

You need to eat at least 2 cups of veggies or salad every day if you are on 3 shakes a day.

If you are on 2 shakes a day you eat a healthy meal for one meal a day (eg fish and salad or steak and veggies) plus 3 small snacks a day, 100 calories each. Eg piece of fruit, small handful of nuts, small tub of yoghurt. Aim for 1000 calories a day, the booklet says.

You can stay on 3 shakes a day for 3 weeks without medical supervision, 2 shakes a day until you have reached your goal weight. You can skip the 3 shakes a day if you like and just start on 2.

Hope thats helpful for you :)

Hi, 5 years ago I went in and had the Lap Band fitted and with some limited success have lost 28kg. Over the past year or so I have been having problems with the lap band causing massive reflux so I have had the fluid removed, but am sadly putting on weight and now have torn the cartlidge in my knee so I am limited to the amount of walking I can do. My question is, how many shakes can I have a day, what meals should I replace with shakes and what food should I have for alternate meals etc...... I have purchased Optislim already and am looking for some guidance please. Thx in advance

G'day Antonio, I'm guessing that the best person to answer this would be a dietitian. I was having two or three a day, I'm down to one now, as well as two relatively healthy meals. I'm allowing myself an occasional cheat being as it's around Christmas. I've found that I can't easily eat as much as I used to, I'm hoping that is partly because my stomach is smaller.
This may sound weird, but I also found it helped to take pride in feeling hungry and being able to say no. To feel the hunger, but still be the boss. I found that by doing this I could stretch out the times between meals.
Good luck.

Well I usually have two a day for breakfast and dinner with a light lunch. I find that if I have any more than that I'll get the runs. I know it's gross but what can you expect when it's basically a liquid diet. I've been to a dietician and Optislim was the only meal replacement shake they recommended. Wish you all the best!

It depends which optislim you are using. I couldn't drink the normal ones that you mix with water. I use the platinum which you use skim milk (less than 1g fat) I find these easy to drink as long as you mix them really well.

They say you can have 3 shakes a day for up to 3 weeks without medical supervision or up to 12 weeks with medical supervision. You can have 2 shakes a day until you reach your goal weight without medical supervision. If you have 3 shakes a day and you are over 100kg, you can have a piece of fruit and 2 cups of salad/veggies. If you are under 100kg they say skip the fruit and just have the veggies.

Hi. all im thinking about starting this diet as ive always been very overweight and over the last few years have added to my problem with comfort eating. Now i don't know where to start im very uncomfortable even walking a short distance my back and legs hurt. Went to my gp and haven't weighed myself in years and was disgusted with myself when she said i weighed 22 stone ive cried ever since. So enough is enough is this going to be any good for me????? Or im i kidding myself..

Try it! I'm so happy with it so far... I am on to week 2 and have already lost 3kgs purely from the shakes (as i have done minimal exercise). Perhaps a good idea would be to just start with the shakes and then ease yourself into exercising to enhance your fitness as your weight loss increases :) And if you get hungry in between, fruit and veggies are the way to go! Best of luck :)

Jess king

This stuff is amazing, I'm not kidding, give it a go, you won't regret it! The taste isn't very nice for the first week but after that its good! Make sure you use cold water, shake it very well (I use a $15 drink bottle blender from Kmart), smell it as you drink because that way your nose aids in picking up the chocolate and it tastes better and drink it straight away! DO IT good luck :)

Stay away from Optislim altogether because drinking all that grit will tire you out.

Go for Celebrity Slim, (embarrasing name but the shakes are TOP NOTCH), Rapid Loss or Fat Burner. I've substituted the skim milk for unsweetened almond milk in the drinks that require it.

The cheapest is Aldi, which taste wonderful.

Other than that, the OS VCLD have <700 kj and can replace an entire diet (whYYYY ) the OS Life <900 kj. The LCD needs to be made up with milk. You're aiming for no more than 4000kj a day.

I use OptiSlim VLCD. I am not familiar with OptiSlim LIFE or Optislim LCD. OptiSlim VLCD offer two types of shakes: the first are 620kj per serve and are made with water; and the second are about 720kj per serve and made with milk. I didn't like the Celebrity Slim but too each their own (they are about 1000kj per serve). I have also tried the Aldi shakes and they are nice, however I prefer OptiSlim. OptiSlim VLCD are available at chemist warehouse (in Australia). You can currently get two 21 pack boxes for $55. My favourite flavours are the coffee and chocolate (made with water). The packet recommends 200ml of water per shake, however I usually add four ice-cubes to the shaker. I have a sweet tooth and love them.

Jess king

Not sure about the life shakes! But VLCD stands for very low calorie diet and LCD stands for low calorie diet! I would suggest you use LCD if you haven't got as much to lose as it's more caloric intake and suited to people only wanting to lose a small amount

Hi my daughter and I look likely to start OptiSlim very soon. We have been advised to add some protein powder by a dietician to help with hunger. Is anyone already trying this?

1 answer

I have opti-slim for the morning shake and have a higher protein shake for my second daily shake. You can also get these little chocolate bars from the pharmacy that are high in protein. The chocolate bars are low in carbs and a good way of weening you off sweets while still enjoying a treat. Sometimes I will have a poached egg (also high in protein).

Part Two

These days I go back onto VLCD for one, two or three days every time I see the needle on the scales starting to move North. And the rest of the time I eat normally..... but I have also learned to limit my "normal", compared to the bad old days.
You should stick with VLCD - if you maintain a strict (and honest) discipline, it will reward you permanently.
By the way..... when I use it these days - because I no longer have the need to have food with the medicine (long gone), I use Two sachets of VLCD at a time with only a single cup of water. That doubles the flavour that many (myself included) had previously said was too bland..... and that makes all the flavours more enjoyable.
Stick with it Sharee..... no one likes being overweight, diabetes or no diabetes.
good luck.

Hey Sharee, don't give up. (This reply will come in two stages due to word limits).
Go read my review "The most successful diet ever" - that might help.
I too was a type II diabetic on insulin and four other drugs when I started. Since losing the 40 kgs (and having kept it off for more than two years, the diabetes is gone, the insulin is gone and the other drugs are now history as well.
You'll notice that I used to blend a banana with vanilla VLCD - that was only because at the time, some of the drugs I was taking for the diabetes had to be taken with a "meal" and the banana/VLCD shake was more of a meal than just the VLCD. It also helped to make a super delicious thick shake and was very satisfying.
