Hi Daniel, it’s best to consult with your doctor before trying Optislim due to the affect it can have on your body and with other medication. Most people start on the intensive stage: 3 products a day (there’s shakes, bars, soups, deserts etc) and a 3 cup limit of non starchy foods such as broccoli, cauliflower, carrots. Beans, corn and peas are not permitted. Most intensive stages are for up to 12 weeks. The second stage is two products a day (this is what stage I’m doing due to medication interactions). I do a shake for breakfast and a shake for lunch. Snacks in between are for the given dairy (250ml skim milk, 39g hard cheese, 150ml low fat yoghurt. Only choose one not all of them), unlimited fruit/veg (cucumber, carrot, tomatoes, strawberries, celery, broccoli and cauliflower), carbs (2x vita west biscuits, one piece of white bread, 30g potato, 30g sweet potatoes or 50g pumpkin, again only one a day) and protein (depending on your bmi is your allocated limited. Mine is 100-125g raw meat so generally 100g cooked or roughly the size of your palm.). Water intake should be 2-3litwrs daily. The shakes aren’t included in your water intake. Diet soft drinks are allowed also but I keep it to a minimum of one a week. Another way to get your water in is using the diet cordials or the infused water ( the only ones accepted are the Gatorade active water in berry, lemon and orange and the Lipton infused water). You can also have diet jelly, one per day. A box generally does 4 serves. Hope this helps :)

I've been using Optislin for just over 2 weeks now, ideally I'd love to lose 5-8kg. I currently weigh 70kg and I'm 5'4. So even though I'm not severely overweight I don't feel comfortable at my current weight. I have 2 shakes per day, and a small meal at night and snack on 1 piece of fruit and nuts in between. I exercise and walk regularly. So far I'm disappointed as I haven't lost any weight. Does anyone have an opinion?

I'd probably have a chat to your GP Aly.K. There might be some other problems at play as to why you're weight is not budging. When you only have a little bit to lose, it doesn't obviously drop off, but if you're following the instructions in the packet, you would think you would be losing even a little bit.

You are not meant to eat any carbs whilst on Opti slim .
Also you may have gained muscle that may be the reason you haven't noticed any weight loss.
Have you been keeping up your water intake? That is very important while on the opti slim program.
Inside the box you will find a booklet with all the information you need to lose weight.
Personally at the weight you are now, it sounds like you really shouldn't be on Opti slim have you talked to your doctor about it ?

Yes you can replace one meal a day, although it will take longer for the weight to shift .
There is a booklet inside the box that tells you how long you need to stay on it .
For instance if you were to go the intensive stage ( that is 3 Shakes a day plus 2 cups of vegetables, nth is stage is for 3 months and gives the fastest results. Depending on your start weight the booklet give you all the information you need .
They do recomend you see your Doctor Incase you have blood pressure diabetes E.C.T
you can also go to their web site for more information

It's best to check the box or the instructions inside as it depends on how overweight you are and how much you have to lose.

Hi, I've had problem with my weight for a long time but over the past couple of years I have put on quite a lot of weight that I want to lose, mainly because I cannot exercise due to a neck injury. I also have a 3 year old, I was 70 kgs before the baby and was 82kg at the time of delivery. Three years on I am now 80 kgs and also planning to have another baby. I want to lose some weight before I get pregnant again or I am going to end up close to 100 kg by the end of it and will be so much harder to lose the weight. I am having neck, back and knee problems due to my weight.I am seriously considering starting the optislim program and wondering if it is safe to go on if we are planning a baby. Thanks

Hi there. I really think you should consult your GP. Very low cal diet depletes your body of minerals / vitamins, may make you lethargic and you may have other side effects which wouldn't work in your favour specially if you trying for bubba. You want the bubba to start healthy as much as possible. All the best.

I really love Optislim and have used it many times over many years when I've had an issue with weight. I compared several brands before I chose Optislim. It was the closest to the brand they use in hospital and half the price.
I use My Fitness Pal in conjunction with Optidlim and was very surprised to see how easy it was to exceed RDI in some vitamins. So take care especially if you take a multivitamin or other suplements. Like other consumers I play around with frozen fruit/ice/essences and also add selium husk for added fiber withh little change to taste....... don't let it sit too long after preped because the husk swells incredibly......

Before you start any sort of diet I recommend you see a your Doctor first to see if this ok for you .
It has been clinically tested . Good luck on your journey.

Hi Adi1975, You should be asking them on the Optifast & Optislim websites. I did not have any snacks except for a cup of tea, coffee or (forbidden) fruitjuice. I had 3 small pieces of fruit after the evening meal - ie soup & vegetables. Perhaps if you don't need them after dinner, you could have your piece of fruit for midmorning & midafternoon. Go to the Optislim website. Drink lots of water! Good luck & keep up your multi vitamins

Hi, for breakfast, eat cereal and milk and drink optislim, for lunch, eat a healthy salad and drink optislim, and for dinner, eat anything that is healthy like fruits or nuts. If you do this for 3 months you will loose a lot of weight. I used to be 79kg and I done this for 3 months and now I'm 38kg . But before you do it, see your doctor to see if it's suitable for you and if you can use it. I hope this is helpful for you. Thank you

I'm 53 years old and after a total knee replacement my weight has increased from 114kgs to 123kgs. I am a type 2 diabetic which was under control but has now increased to a HBA1C of 8.0. My Doctor now wants to put me on Insulin unless I can lose some serious weight. I am a little restricted with walking after my knee replacement so I'm looking at taking on these shakes for a while. Has anyone had real success with this and should a diabetic be doing shakes? Thanks in advance.

Antonio if you have the resolve to do the VLCD properly your BSL will drop like a stone. I did the Opti diet for 17 days prior to bariatric surgery ( primarily to reduce the liver size for the surgical process) and lost around 12kg but my BSL went so low I had to cease my medication glyclizide/metformin completely. Stay off carbs and you'll lose weight and BSL. I've never resumed medication post surgery and remain high 4's low 5's. Doing my first A1c 3 months post op soon and expect to see some numbers I've not seen for 15+ years :-) Cheerz Wabster.

I started optislim shakes twice a day and having light dinner. Its been a week and i just lost 1.5kg. Is this normal or am i doing anything wrong as many people r saying they lost 4 to 5 kg. Can somebody please help me.

1 answer
wabster
wabster

It would be dispiriting to do this VLCD with little result. The answer possibly lies in your "light dinner" as the key to success in doing this radical diet is going into what is known as ketosis, please google it for more information, and this is done by eating close to zero carbs. After a day or two/three of ketosis the hunger goes away. I did this diet for 17 days prior to bariatric surgery and lost 13kg in that time. I believe you can have a small amount of protein on the diet (I didn't, was on 3 x Optislim and up to 2 cups of veggies per day) but you have to have non starchy veggies. My suggestion is to check to ensure you are not having starchy or carby veggies with your evening meal. If you have carbs you'll drop out of ketosis and the weight loss will stop. It is a tough regime that works usually if it is followed rigidly. Hope this help, cheerz Wabster.

Hi Everyone,
I am currently 80kgs and desperately want to lose about 15 kilos before my wedding in 4 and a half months.
Am I best to have 2 shakes a day (breakfast and lunch) and then a lean cuisine meal for dinner? I freak out about not having food so is it okay to rely on that main dinner meal?
Is it okay to have almonds to snack on and carrots during the day?

1 answer
Margy120
Margy120

You will have good weight loss even replacing 2 meals a day but be careful having a lean cuisine for dinner as it probably has pasta, rice or other carbs. This diet is strictly no carbs. I went on Optislim in April last year (after gorging myself on chocolate over Easter). My start weight was 80kg and I wanted to get down to 70kg for my daughter's wedding on 21 August. I was 68kg by the time the wedding came around and looked fabulous (if I say so myself). I replaced 2 meals a day with the shakes and just had meat and veges or salad for dinner. I also made up salads or veg soup to have during the day but rarely ate anything as the shakes really are all you need after about a month.

Platinum has less nutrients so milk might be needed.
After I lost 11kg 1 plateaued far a month.
I finally started losing weight when l changed my diet. I stopped optifast etc. I also got help from a naturopath
I am losing well and body is happy to get that diet gunk out of my system
It works for a while. Now I've lost 15 kg
