Hi Amna, i used to clean machine's bottom part where wevput water for steam every month with citric acid and it cleans out all nasty buildup and leaves inner part clean and shiny. You just put the macimu amount of water by measuring cup and then put 1 tablespoon citric acid into bottom part and run the machine for a full cycle. After that throw any remaining water and clean 2-3 times with soapy water and water. If you look inside then you will see clear steel lining inside. Keep repeating this process every 4-6 weeks.

You can buy citric acid from coles or wollies. It super cheap and comes in a powder form you can store this in container and use it for cleaning purposes. Good luck.

Hi Amna, good that you've reached out about this. We could definitely see that after such a long period of down time the machine has sort of a strange smell. We'd recommend to check all the maintenance steps in our manual: http://philips.to/2wqv2G3. However if that doesn't seem to solve it, please contact us on 1300 363 391 (AU) or if you're located elsewhere through http://philips.com/support/.

In any case, we do hope you'll be able to use it soon again. :)

Hello,
We bought Avent blender and steamer a few days ago. Today I used it for making some sweet potato for my baby. When I opened it at the end, the upper white part had some orange stains from the sweet potato! I tried washing it with some vinegar, baking soda, and oil but the stains are still there! What shall I do?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to us with your question. We hope we can comfort you by saying colourisation can occur due to dyes in the food. This could happen during the process of steaming but also when washing it in the dishwasher, for instance. Good to hear that you've tried cleaning it with vinegar, though, as this helps in some of the cases. We do like to emphasize that the stains aren't harmful in any way! We hope this answers your question. Please know that you can always reach out to us on Facebook or Twitter (@PhilipsCare) as well.

Hi there. I had just bought one yesterday. When I cleaned the parts, unfortunately the silicone valve fell down the sinkhole! Would this affect its operation? I still steamed and blended some food but nothing bad has happened. Do I need to buy a silicone valve or is it not necessary? Please advise. -- Czar (Philippines)

Hi there, thanks for your question! The Avent Steamer and Blender is indeed not suitable for hot ingrediënts. Could you tell us a bit more about the issue you're experiencing with the blender? Does the knife unit seem to be blocked? If yes, this could be because the blender contains too much food. Let us know if processing a smaller amount of food helps. We're hoping to hear from you. :)

How can I clean the bottom of the jar?

Philips S.Philips Avent

Hi Hermann. Please find the cleaning instructions for the Steamer and Blender here: http://bit.ly/2qXiVwT. We're not sure if this answers your question, as we're not entirely sure what you mean by the white bottom. Please be aware we do not advise you to immerse the motor unit in water. The white lid of the jar however can be removed en thoroughly cleaned. In case food residue has built up in parts of the appliance, immerse the parts in warm soapy water for about half an hour to soften the residuals and remove them with the help of a brush. If this doesn't help with cleaning the jar, we kindly ask you to get in contact with our support team. You can reach them on 0800 658 224 if you're based in New Zealand or on 1300 363 391 if you're based in Australia. Alternatively, you can contact us on either Facebook or Twitter (@PhilipsCare), where we'll be to help out 24/7. Kind regards, The Philips Australia Team.

Thank you for your fast answer. I've read the whole documentation before posting the question. It's not the white lid, it's exactly at the opposite side of the jar. (Not with the machine ...)

I want to make smoothie with nuts, veg (like brocolli, leafy veg ) and protein powder and fruits, for adult not as baby food. I like the steaming feature so that I can steam the vegetables to kills possible germs in raw vegetables. Is the blender useful for this purpose?

1 answer

Philips S.Philips Avent

Hi Deepak,

That's a very good question! The Combined Steamer and Blender is ideal to steam fruit and vegetables. The appliance is intended for preparing baby food, however you can use it to prepare other foods, for example sauces and steamed vegetables as long as you adhere to the instructions for use enclosed with the product.

Hope this helps!

hi. I have only use the machine a couple of times to steam veg. I notice the green parts (the core which the blade is attached and the honey comb part) are stained lightly brown. is this normal?

1 answer
Philips Avent
Philips S.Philips Avent

Hi there Sara,

Discoloring may occur and is common to all food preparation appliances. Some foods with strong colours, as tomatoes or carrots, can discolour some parts of the device. This does not affect the quality, hygiene and performance of the product and you can keep using the product safely. If the stains are difficult to remove, use some (cooking) oil. Apply some drops of oil on a towel or tissue and rub the stains. Hope this helps!

Hi, just recently i have noticed that the base of the filling compartment has turned brown probably has scale built up. So i did the cleaning using 50ml vinegar + 150ml water. Unfortunately; the scale or more-like-rust looking is still not completely removed. Appreciate if you could advise further. And is the food prepared from this machine safe for me to feed my baby with brownish scale? Feeling guilty for my baby for have not noticing it earlier. -Amie, Malaysia

Hi Amie,

Thank you for reaching out to us. Have you tried cleaning the jar with a sachet of citric acid yet? Adding 10g to 200ml of water and following the same steps you did when descaling with vinegar might help to get rid of the buildup scale. Furthermore we'd like to advise you to always check if the water tank is empty and open after use, to avoid any bacterial growth. There's some more cleaning tips that might come in handy here: http://philips.to/2qrJbQd. If none of these work, feel free to reach out to us on Facebook or Twitter, where our team is available 24/7 to help.
