We have submitted a car insurance claim on the second of March. To this day, we haven' heard anything form RACQ. We called them several times, and they say that they are trying to get in contact with the other insurance company. Is this delay standard?
I have been an RACQ/NRMA member for 25 years and an insurance policy holder (of various types) as well. I am seriously considering cancelling my other two policies if this is the service i will receive when i need them.

No this is what RACQ does.
They stuff you around for months on end hoping you will go away.
Report them to AFCA.
AFCA are VERY aware of RACQ and currently have a number of complaints against them.
Email me at ashj644@gmail if I can be of any assistance.
I'm a former investigator and have lots of experience with rogue insurance companies

I caused an accident where only the other car (mine, which was an old car, is a wreck) was damaged. I have only a Motor Third Party Liability Insurance with RACQ . I called RACQ and lodged a claim unaware that CTP covers only injuries and thanks God there was no serious injuries. I sound pretty stupid I know but I was thinking that I'm doing the right thing. The only thing I knew about CTP that it doesn't cover my car. I never caused any accident and I just didn't know what I guess everybody should now when paying or choosing an insurance. I have $600 excess to pay on my policy and RACQ accepted to pay it in installments. I asked RACQ that do they cover the cost of the repair of the other car? And I got the answer, yes, they do. I've just realized it now, reading and reading again and again about CTP insurance that they don't! Now, I pay this $600 for nothing? Can I cancel my claim? I am a pensioner. What should I do?

Hi Absurd,
From what I know of these sort of circumstances you have done the right thing, CTP is compulsory when you register your car, it covers injuries your correct, how bad was the damage too the other car? Did they have insurance? Usually the insurers will deal with each other about the claim depending how bad it is, I would call Racq and talk too the claims department about it and explain the situation, I don't work for them but I work in insurance so I know how it works racq are really good and will understand just take it slow on the phone and don't be afraid to ask, questions, you should also be getting a pensions discount on you Ctp ect, hope this helps :)
You do not have to pay any excess for CTP, you indicated you have no other insurance for damage, so you are NOT covered for any damage, and you indicated you were the cause of the accident, so any repairs that need to be done has to be borne by you.
Thanks very much taking time to answer me. Especially Gerry, you're right - RACQ is really good and the people are very understanding and helpful. I don't know how bad was the damage I was and I am so very grateful that I didn't kill the driver! Geoff, I think I made a mistake yesterday. You're right as well, now I know. So I apologize for taking your time with my question - my problem is resolved. I am still in shock - and pain - because of the accident so I just wasn't aware that I have an other insurance which covers the damage I did to the other car. I feel really absurd and irresponsible as I just neglected to look up what insurance I have and what they cover. I never caused any accident. Anybody who is reading that please take your time and as Gerry says, if you don't understand something regarding your insurance ask and you will get the answers. Don't wait for an accident. Thanks again.

Sorry, i can't advise you on this.
I would not insure anything with RACQ I have been a member for over 50 years and they ripped me off. I would not believe them.
Racq have always been really helpful to me in my 25 year experience
