We booked a 7 seater through vroomvroomvroom a week before pickup to go up to Mount Buller. Our pick up time was at 8am. Our flight was delayed on that morning and couldn't reach Melbourne and pick up the car on time. As a courtesy, we rang them up to tell them that we will pick the car up at midday but the Chinese lady on the phone was very rude to me and said that you need to come ASAP otherwise we will cancel your booking and give the car to someone else. You have to come ASAP because there is a booking at 10am so if you don't come before 10...Read more
am we will cancel your booking. So we managed to ask a friend staying nearby to pick the car up for us and by the time he was about to depart, the Chinese lady called again and told us she has already given the car to another customer. We understood that 7 seater is very limited in the Melbourne city so we booked it a week earlier and now you tell me I can't get the car even though I have booked for 2 days????? And what if the customer who booked at 10am come pick the car up, and found out the car has been given to the customer who came earlier????? Lesson: Next time I would pay more to get a more trustable service.

Horrible Scam, Tourists beware. Call police !
We are from US first time traveling to Australia with two minor children. We rent the car at Sydney for only one day. Our credit card was changed $4400 for a "scratch". When we call the rental office immediately told them when we returned the car there is no damage whatsoever. The rental office at Victoria street give us their claims department number which is a non working number. We have to go to the rental office in person asking the rental agent calling the the number given by him. Not even the leasing agent is able to reach him own claim d...Read more
epartment. We asked him to show where is the scratch worth $4400. He declined to show the car we returned. Only stated that they found "scratch" on the car the next morning. I told them this kind of business practice is not in good faith because we are not afford a opportunity to see where is the damage before being charged this large amount money without permission. We were not given a walk through at the time received the car and was not notified when they found "scratch" and charged our credit card for $4400. We we contact them the gave our a erroneous phone number. When we went to the office in person they did not show us where is the scratch. I filed a fraud claim immediately and considered to file a police report. This is my first impression to Australia.

Excellent Service
Only slightly down side was it wasn't so simple to locate them (ie. not well sign posted). The office is in the car park at Sydney domestic terminal. Having said that the booking was easy and the contract was laid out in simple terms. The car was great, clean and ready to go. They were professional, up front, and honest, plus return was hassle free. I was very impressed and would definitely use them again.

Pretty Poor Service
I rented a car in Darwin and the air conditioning didn't work. I was too busy to run around trying to get another car so I sent an email and didn't get a reply. I mentioned it again when I dropped the car off at the airport and got a blank look with shrugged shoulders. I received the invoice via email today and realised I have still be charged full rate for the experience.... WOW!

Great Car, Great Service
After reading reviews about how bad this car rental service was I expected to be ripped off somehow. However nothing could be further from the truth. They were awesome. I booked online and when we got to the rental office they had the car ready to go with the 2 child seats we booked already installed. Also as they didn't have the car we ordered they upgraded to a better car at no extra cost. The car was clean inside and out. I was asked if I wanted the pay for the full tank option which I thought sounded like a good idea, but the person who served me asked us where we would be going and after telling them our plans, they said that it would be better to just fill the car prior to returning the car as it would be cheaper. They were right.

Amateur scam artists hiding as a car rental agency
I rented the car in December 2016 through Enterprise with whom I had previously had an excellent experience (in the U.S.). I arrived and noticed that Red Spot Melbourne (Downtown) was a partner of Enterprise, but had no problem picking up car with my family and drove 500+ km over 2 days, filled up the tank, and returned the car. Sounds like a dream... but wait. The nightmare starts after returning the car:
Within 24 hours of dropping off the car (12/2), I received an empty email (12/3) with an attached receipt for $550 in ADDITION to my ren...Read more
tal fee --- ALREADY charged to my credit card! The extra $550 was due to their claim of vehicle damage [Note: the vehicle was fine when I returned it with a full tank and they provided no details, photos, or evidence of the flat tyre at the time of their claim]. After sending them multiple emails outlining that we did not damage the car during our rental and we did not accept their phony charge on our credit, they finally responded 12/6 with photos of my rental with a flat tire -- the photos were taken 12/4 with a Canon IXUS 175. They refused to respond to any of my emails or claims (including a Hirer Indemnity Form). We disputed the flat-tyre charge (AUS$550) with our bank. The bank issued a temporary credit to our account for the fraudulent flat tyre while they were investigating they charge. We thought (and hoped) that was the end of Redspot threats. Then, two months later (February 5th), while our bank was still investigating disputing the claim, we get a new letter from RedSpot demanding and a new $139.77 due to "loss of service"+"repair"+"admin fee" from the rental. I emailed them asking for clarification but got no response besides one generic email on 2/6/2016: "Thank you for your email. Please get back to me as soon as you can. Payment required in 14 days from 06/02/2017" We contacted our bank on 2/6 who claimed that RedSpot received from the rental fee and that they were finalizing the dispute with RedSpot. After hearing from the bank, I emailed RedSpot back on same day letting them know about my dissatisfaction with their mafia tactics and never heard from them again. We received a letter from our bank on 2/26 stating that they had completed their investigation and made our temporary credit for the flat tyre charge permanent. We didn’t hear from Red Spot again…1 comment

I have reviewed your case and note the vehicle was returned prior to our opening. The vehicle was checked in by our team as soon as the locaiton opened and unfortunately the vehicle did have a flat tyre. Rather than charge the full accepted damage liability, the team have processed the claim and secured a value to cover for the tyre replacement (if necessary) until the tyre was inspected and claim completed by our claims team. The tyre was found to have a puncture in the tyre. Unfortunately as a chargeback was issued, we were unable to process your claim and therefore a letter of demand (standard document) was issued for the cost of repair and associated costs. The claims team have made the decision not to pursue with the outstanding funds and now consider this matter closed. Regards Allison McLeay Customer Relations DepartmentSimilar opinion? Ripped off
I rented Kia 3 doors car for 8 days. Last day when i returned the car i used up quater of the fuel. I wasn't able to fill it up because there was no fuel shop near the airport. After i returned the car i was charged $36 for the quater of fuel. The fuel was e10. I could fill up the whole tank with $36. I understand that i was meant to fill it up before i return but there was no fuel shop nearby and i only used quater of the tank and they charged me $36.

Horrible Customer Service
Hired the car 19 days ago on the 15th of June from Melbourne tullamarine and had to put a $1000 bond down, called up wondering where my bond is on the 29th of June, the customer service representative said it will be transferred the next day, it is now the 3rd of July and still no refund. I called up again today only to get a rude manager, he told me he was new, took my name didn't explain or tell me anything about what was happening with my money and just hung up the phone. It is an awfully long time to be keeping peoples money from them. I strongly recommend that people never hire from this company.

I believe you have spoken with numerous team members within our company regarding your rental.... Read more
Unfortunately we are unable to offer larger vehicles to drivers under the age of 25, nor put the vehicles under a driver over the age of 25's name and permit you to drive. The team have advised there were no mechanics on site to test the vehicle on your return however today the vehicle has been given a full service by a licensed mechanic and found to be in perfect order. We take safety seriously and have an uncapped budget on the service and maintenance of our vehicles. Tyres are changed when 3mm above the accepted legal tyre tread allowing for additional safety for our customers. Please note: A) The team suggested you call road side assistance if you were at all concerned with the vehicle, a suggestion you chose to decline. B) The fluid on the ground was water from the air-conditioning unit, perfectly normal. The vehicle provided to you was a mechanically sound vehicle that had a full service history. On your return, the team have offered an exchange vehicle for your piece of mind however this was not accepted. I note the vehicle was returned 2 hours prior to your original return time and the manager on duty offered free fuel as a gesture of goodwill. I am more than happy to call you at a time that suits you if you would like to discuss your rental further. Kind regards Allison McLeay Customer Relations DepartmentHi Allison,
We would like a call from you asap. ... Read more
We actually brought the car back at 5pm, which was 4 hours prior to the time we were supposed to bring it back. We did not ask to put the car in someone over 25's name, it was a joke between us girls and your employee used it as an excuse. My grandmother does not even speak english, let alone possess a license. I am absolutely appauled that someone could make false accusations like this. All four of us girls come from a family of mechanics and we are aware of what a car with safe brakes drives like. I do not believe your "mechanic" has given a correct report, as we are perfectly aware that the brakes on a Hyundai should be touch sensitive, meaning that the smallest touch should allow the vehicle to begin braking. The vehicle was not in a safe condition to drive, and we will be taking matter much further with legal action, as your company put our lives in danger and is trying to justify their actions. Thanks for nothing.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Overcharged and lied to and still waiting
Hired a car on the 16th of June at Sydney Airport for a total of 2 days. Returned the car on the 18th of June full tank no other issues.
On 20th June I get an invoice for 5 day hire charge with date of hire 16th and date of return 21 June at 9.23am! This was on the 20th! So charged for 5 days!
Additionally because I have Green P plates I put a bond of $1000. 5 phone calls later with promises made that the mistake has been corrected and my bond refunded, I still don't have my bond back or an accurate invoice. So still in the same position 12 days later! Totally dishonest and lack integrity. Never hire with them!

Had a CONFIRMED booking via vroom vroom (and had confirmation copy) for a car ex Brisbane. Counter person then slipped into the conversation that there was an extra charge. Sadly late time of day combined with time pressure to meet family gave no option to accept and wear this mystery $55. Total Scam - $1000 Bond Not Refunded Until I Complained & Expess Charges
Hidden fees, poor service and a great reluctance to return bond money. $1000 charged to my card, not returned until I left a bad review and an extra $40 deduction (I'm still waiting to hear why). Car was also in a poor condition (and not what I'd booked). Was told I would hear from a manager to discuss the issues - still waiting for this too.
I rent cars frequently for work and this is by far the worst company I have ever used. First and last time.

We hired a car for a weekend in Tasmania. It was a Toyota With 55,000 kms on the clock. It had a few scratches etc. Redspot do not have ground staff so you pick your keys up from a generic desk and find your own car in the parking lot. We returned the car as hired with a full tank of fuel. 3 weeks later we have an additional $5000 dollars on our credit card? Apparently there were scratches on the rear panel? After requesting proof we receive an email image of a different car? A very basic invoice for the repair with no details what so ever not even a number plate? We are taking legal action. Seriously unpleasant

What a joke!!
We rented a car from Redspot. While we had it a bus threw up a rock and cracked the windscreen-fair enough accidents happen-we had taken (we thought we had $4,400 insurance which well and truly cover a new windscreen. Also there was a small patch of green paint on the rear wheel cover. When I returned the car the lady at the office who was already flustered by another customer tried to tell me that the windscreen and the green paint would be over $5,000 damage. I rang Windscreens O'Brien and they quoted me $653 for the windscreen and we got 3 quotes for the paint damage from local repairers and none were over $1,000. Redspot did not ring us at all they just charged our credit card and sent an invoice. We are taking legal action.

I am sorry to hear of your disappointment and would like to clarify the charges processed upon your return. Your rental agreement stipulates a damage liability amount to be charged in the event of damage. In most cases this amount is $4400. I am not aware of your rental agreement number to verify such inclusions in your contract and should you provide this to be I will be able to be more specific to your situation. Therefore in the event of damage the full liability amount is deducted immediately. The vehicle is then taken off Fleet and sent for repairs. Once the vehicle and the repair invoice has been received, our Claims Department will process the Finalisation letter and email this to you along with a copy of the repair invoice. Any unused portion of the liability charged will then be refunded to match the costs and charges associated with the damage claim. If you would like to provide your rental agreement number I can follow up on the Claim process and provide you with an update. I do hope this information clarifies any misunderstanding and should you require further assistance please contact Customer Relations Directly at [email protected].
