great car value for money
I have a 2008 diesel koleos 4x4 in 2013 for $13000 love its done 112,000 km no problems at all, live in the country so its used on dirt roads and 3 hour trips to Melb.
I test drove a diesel X-Trail, VW tiguan, mazda cx5, and the Koleos was my pic on price, and safety (it has the shortest stopping distance of all the SUVs of this size) with ESP, EBD, EBA ABS as std
More features than the others and love the split rear tail gate .

It has the best car price vs quality ratio
Before I bought this car, I did a really massive research on SUV, I got a really good bargain for this car, it's a 2013 bose version demo with only 15kms mileage and I got it for $6k reduction, make sure you bargain when you buy it. Dealer is very important, make sure you compare before you buy it, the quantity of car never runs out, dealers always like to use phases like "if you are buying it today, I will give you a good bargain", just turn away when you hear this. This is not suppose the way it works~!!!!!!

dies two months after the battery warranty, I called national Renault, no one told me that it's expired already and said that it will be replaced if required, they sent someone to check it and said that there were no issues at all. One day later, I could not start the car, so I called Renault Service at Peter Warren, got the car for check up after one week, then turns out the battery is dead so they needed to replace it. Then they want to charge it for three hundred something (of cuz it's higher than market price). Now my time is wasted and I need to pay substantially more since I don't have a choice, my car can't even be started.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Almost the best car I have had
I purchased the diesel Koleos in late 2012. I have now done 75,000 klm without any problems, save a couple of punctures that needed complete tyre replacements. The Continentals apparently are hard to repair - One went back 5 times before I gave up and I now run Pirelli P7s on it.
Because I now average 5000 klms a month, the fuel efficiency is critical and with 75% on highways, I am averaging 6.8l/100klm - not too shabby.
Driving position is good and after 3 hours in the car, I don't have the usual stiffness. Sitting up high and with light st...Read more
eering, makes driving a joy. Even on dirt roads it holds its own. Very airtight - not much gets in. I looked at all the alternatives, and coming from a complete Nissan family for the last 15 years, (Patrol/Navara/Pathfinder), it was a surprise to find out how good this was. All round good little SUV. Dealer service was average. Since moved to an independent. Bluetooth has some hangups. - can be annoying.

Follow-up Review
It's been more than a year of owning a 2012 Bose SE Diesel and I'm still very happy with it. Last month my Koleos was involved in an accident with damages to the front panels and headlights. The repair workshop could get all the parts from Renault within 4 days and my car was repaired like new within a week.
I disagree with some other reviewers in regards to Korean vs Japanese quality. I previously owned a Mazda 3 which was built in Japan and the finished quality of my current Koleos is similar or slightly better in all aspects. During the ...Read more
time my Koleos was in the workshop, the insurance company provided me a rental car, latest model RAV4 which has done just 8000km. The build quality of RAV4 is very average and with poorer finished quality than the Koloes. Bits were falling apart if I was not careful when lowering the back seats to increase cargo area. The driving position of RAV4 is not impressive either and engine was screaming for most of the time, not as smooth as the Koleos even though Koleos' engine is diesel. Also, my 1st service after 12 months at Renault dealer was capped at $199 and it'll capped for the next 4 years. There's also road side assistance and manufacturer's warranty for another 4 years. Previous review: I bought the Diesel Bose edition in October 2012, very nice interior and comfortable driving experience. The finish quality is excellent and practical, very good value for what I paid. Fuel economy is about 8.5L/100km city driving. In the past, Koleos diesel owners complained about the particulate filter warning light for short distance driving. I've been driving short distances in city for 6 months and no such issue, Renault seems to have fixed this problem. Fast part delivery from Renault nothing that I should complain about, still a bargain and a pleasure to drive after 1 year+Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Early days, but lovin' it!
New 2013 Koleos Expression 4x2 petrol CVT. Had it 10 just days. Compared many including Honda's CRV -initial first choice and CX-5, but simply couldn't pass up the overall value in the Koleos and from Renault. Moving from a Japanese assembled Mazda to the Korean built Koleos. Although like anyone I have brand experience preferences, I'm not closed to change and car's aren't an emotional buy for me. It's just a car!

ys driven manuals, but as the Toyota ad from 1972 sang, " When I was 25 it was a very good year..." Hell we can't even remember 25 any more! The Koleos is one bang or the buck feature packed vehicle even at its entry level, or should I say particularly at its entry level in the Expression! Lots of plastic, but that's all cars in this class today. Quality of the upholstery is as good as any, and I prefer fabric to leather trimmed. I didn't want AWD or diesel. 2WD and 126kW for the weight of the 2.4litre petrol Koleos is more than adequate for our usage. I have realistic expectations. So far, this vehicle has exceeded all of them. Of course time will tell, but the acid test for me is being able to say honestly upon reflection and without the silliness that is 'owner pride' would we buy this vehicle again right now if we could change our choice or get our money back? An unequivocal yes. CVT, 5 year warranty, 3 year capped servicing, it's an SUV, did I mention CVT?, power to weight balanced with fuel economy from 2.4litre engine, its acceleration, braking and ride, comfortable seating, safety rating, and that it's feature packed. Cruise control, TomTom, Climate control, many proven cross components common drivetrain & chassis from X-Trail Panel fit/alignment shows off its Korean heritage versus our Japanese Mazda. But I don't care. So far, nothing wrong with it, just differences -pro and con- between our Mazda SUV and this (Koleos) one.2 comments

the exact same style model new again. I ended up loving the drop tail boot in particular, and it's a feature I'd really miss in the new model Koleos. My wife loves it as a utility bench for sorting for easy loading shopping. In particular, I will never buy another car without CVT. Arguably the favourite car of all we've ever owned, and we've had some beauts. i.e. early Japanese made Celica coupe, FIAT Pininfarina Spyder, and early adopters of the initial SUV styling back in 2001 with our Mazda Premacy.Similar opinion? Good good
Got a 2009 second hand for 18K drive away. 40000 KM only (not AWD)
We are very happy, for such price it ticked all boxes.(6 air bags and all safety )
I will probably use the car for another 6-8 years so the second hand price doesn't matter to me.
I wouldn't consider Koleos if i have the budget for a new car, however, 18K wasn't enough for a Japanese SUV (with 6 airbags)
X trailer Engine and Renault body. The body is very solid
CVT gear box....

What is it that don't you like about the Koleos' CVT? Or are you implying that you would have preferred a manual shift? Just a minor but accurate technical point - CVT isn't a "gear box" -as the acronym self-evidently implies.
The car was crashed last month on a 80KM /hour highway. The chassis and built were so solid. The family wasnt injury nor even felt impacted. Big thanks and farewell to my koloes as both car were total loss (the other party was a falcon)

Great family and practical car!
Very happy with the car... bought a Dynamique model 2012 model. Practical car with loads of features French owned company, designed and engineered in Japan, assembled in South Korea.
Love Tray tables, air con, and curtains at the back. Capped service for 3 years $299 with 24/7 roadside assist for free... great drive, cheers
European car features and compact but enough practical space
Leg room at back is good but not generous... Can recline back seats though

Save yourself the trouble!
I have had my Koleos 2 years. I bought from a dealer, executive driven demo. Diesel, panoramic sunroof, Bose sound, only 9000k. Seemed a great deal.
It has been nothing but a problem! The hands free did not come on this model so it was included on sale. They installed a system that did not work. Put in new buttons and a system that was incapable of functioning with the cars sound system. This was eventually replaced with another aftermarket unit that required a separate screen to be installed.
You would think Renault would know all this!...Read more
! I now have redundant buttons and a partly functional hands free unit. Problems started when I got heavy shaking through the steering wheel four months later. I took it to the Renault service centre where I purchased it and they told me it needed a wheel alignment. This was done free of charge and I took it away for the weekend. Same problem. Took it back in when we returned where they tested the car and 'needed it to have a look over'. In short, they had the car 9 weeks! It was leaking oil from the engine, required a full drive shaft replacement amongst so many other things. All warranty repairs but they refused to give me a report of what works were undertaken. All I was told was that it was 'Significantly major repair.' !5 comments

lems with inaccurate fuel gauge which is still not repaired and I am now out of warranty. I also have been without my car for approx 6 weeks while they try to diagnose the faults and fly parts in from France. I have been given no compensation at all, not even in the way of a free service. To add insult to injury, I was forced to take a loan car from the dealer as they were unable to identify the fault and was in an accident. I now have to pay $1000 excess when my own insurance excess is only $400 and Renault Australia have told me that I will just have to wear this expense as they have no control of the dealers insurance excess charges. I have now asked for them to refund me the current market value of the car as it has never been fully repaired and I am really concerned that the major problem I had last year where the car engine would cut out while I was travelling at 100km on the freeway has not been fixed properly given the fact that they have never completely repaired the fault with the fuel gauge. Renault are trying to tell me it is normal for a fuel gauge to fluctuate, even though mine will drop by about a quarter of a tank and then go back up again, even when stationery. The long and the short of it is, DON'T buy a Renault. They can not diagnose the faults, cost and arm and a leg to service and their commitment to customer service and quality is non existent!!! I wish everyone else out there who has posted positive feedback good luck when they start to have trouble with their car and are left stranded by Renault!!I had few things go wrong in the warranty period and they were fixed, without too many issues, by Renault. better than the original. They also replaced central radio/temp display and sensor although it made no difference to the wildly inaccurate temp reading! Love this car, great to drive, still haven't figured out the aircon properly though. Great sound system. We bought the very first model, so unfortunately no sat nav. I fell in love with this car the first I got inside. It ticked all boxes I wanted and even more. Excellent
This is an excellent car, and one that anyone purchasing a small 4WD SHOULD consider. It is based on the Nissan X-Trail so the 4WD credentials are good. The car is designed in France and features some unique design elements and functional ideas. It is built in Korea at the Renault-Samsung plant, which appears to be excellent in quality control as evidenced by the quality finish of this vehicle.

Update on previous review
We've now done 16,00km on our Koleos and remain very happy with it. The fuel economy improved a little, and since I started using 91 octane instead of PULP, improved slightly more. Waste of money using PULP (dealer suggested trying 98 when I complained early on about the poor economy!). One pleasant surprise was service cost at 10,000km, under $200. For our previous SUV (a larger vehicle with a Mercedes-origin diesel engine) the cheapest service over 80,000km was $250, the dearest- $1250! The latter was at 60k, and did not involve a timing belt...Read more
change as the Merc diesel doesn't have one... So, although fuel economy is a little worse with Koleos, servicing costs are markedly lower. Apparently there is little difference between "A" & "B" sevices for the petrol motor at 10k intervals- only the aircon filter is changed at a "B". The local Nissan dealer can't do warranty work- but all the car needs is attention to the ambient temperature gauge which is erratic and inaccurate. The cruise control is quirky and mildly annoying, but you get used to it. Less so the stereo controls which are a long reach, poorly labelled, and difficult to use whilst under way. Volume controls behind steering wheel, where cruise should be. Pretty much everything (except we didn't get the colour we wanted!) Cruise and stereo controls April 15th 2022 Update: Comfortable and stylish A terrific car, very happy we bought it. The Koleos is unique and different to the usual run of SUVs. Our initial choice was the VW Tiguan, which has better rear seat legroom but poor luggage space and only comes with a space-saver spare. The Koleos has a full-sized 17" spare wheel. We also liked the Koleos Privilege "Camel" i.e. beige and light grey interior. I have a strong dislike of dark interiors for Australian conditions. We got the sunroof with our car and hardly ever use it: a waste of money.2 comments

, unfortunately more arose once warranty period expired. These include- driver's side sunvisor broken, ends of scuttle (below windscreen, behind bonnet) disintegrating, and leaking rear shock absorber. I might expect these problems on a $20 Chinese car, not a $50k French/Korean one. Parts aren't cheap, and if not in stock have to be ordered through France despite being made in Korea. Another issue is resale- the new price has plummeted though discounting, knocking thousands off my value.I think you'll find that no matter how much you pay for any new car, in few years they're all worth about the same (not much) unless it's a dealer price which doesn't reflect any real market value what so ever.

Better than you think
We looked long and hard at the compact SUV's available and read many reviews before actually getting out there and looking closely at the cars themselves. This one surprised us with its luxury and practicality without the big price tag from some of the "luxury" brand cars.
We almost did not buy the car though....the first dealer we went to visit was rude, and sarcastic. We then relooked at the other cars available before coming back to the Koleos and another dealer. We recommend you do NOT buy the car from Ringwood Renault dealer in Victoria.

Its common or all new cars to throw a real whammy when the battery is down on power or needs replacing. My sons Cleo had messages for gearbox and ecm and a new battery fixed the faults.
