Stay away from these hot water heater
My experience is like many for these model hot water heaters. It just never works for any length of time. The pump does not seem to be able to work for any length of time without freezing up or otherwise stop working. It flashes green and red pretty much all the time. The money I have spent using the electric boost to heat the water (like now), I could have replaced this with a water heater that actually works. Contacted our local repairman again today.
Do NOT purchase one of these systems!

Circulation pump failed 6 years and will cost $500 to $800 to replace
If this pump were to fail every 6 years it would probably negate any savings. Also when you consider the extra cost of the system you would have to ask why did you switch from an off-peak system in the first place. I was told that pump failure is frequent so why doesn't Rheem offer a superior replacement pump or indeed have such a troublesome pump in the first place.

UPDATE I decided to dismantle the pump for a closer look at the problem. If you do this be careful, unplug the pump and bleed the excess pressure both from the tank and the PANELS, if is a warm day ex... Read more
pect surging steam driven boiling water. (The bleed valve for the panels is located just above the point of entry to the tank for the hot water coming back from the panels). Once you have done all this, it is safe to dismantle the pump and remove the impeller. My impeller was not rotating due to a build-up of calcium etc. Fortunately I was able to clean the unit by soaking it in CLR (Calcium Lime Rust cleaner available from Coles) after removing what I could by scrapping and then hitting it with a pressure cleaner to get in under the impeller itself. Once the impeller is rotating freely reinstall it and see if it works. Mine did and this simple fix saved me the $143 call out fee plus a $200 plus part. Note if you need to replace the impeller you can source one from Solar Parts for $169 or buy a complete new superior pump unit for $235. I plan to dismantle and clean mine every 3yrs and replace the entire unit with a better pump when needed. This is not intended as advice or instructions for you to follow but merely an update on my problem.Rheem A.Rheem

Another house using boost electricity alone
Wow buyer beware i wish i had read this review before we got one. At the moment we get a constant red led flash and cold water on a hot Brisbane day. Had our electrician look at it and he tells me its the circulation pump and tells me that this is a constant problem and has recommended using after market pump and was very sympathetic that these pieces of junk are every where and no one has ever got real support from Rheem just the contact for their recommended repair,s that they wont you to use so they can put their original crap parts back in ...Read more

Find out how Rheem Solar Loline (Electric Boost) 511430 compares to other Solar Water Heaters

Replacment pump
I am a plumber who is fixing solar hot water incl. Rheem .There are simple and in material component not special. More marketing then technology .Replace the existing pump to an Grundfos up 15 -14b when damaged .I have seen so many rusted shaft in the original pumps, that is a joke to produce that rubbish still .And hurrah the same pump is in every Rheem system included head pump.If you use the Rheem Service you get the same stuff .Find a good plumber and he will do it for you.

Cold hard truth-this product is terrible
We have not had decent reliable hot water since we purchased this (very expensive) cold water tank. We got the largest tank to meet our family's needs. We've had to get a plumber regularly to fix its various ailments-and there have been many. Our plumber has explained that they are just a bad design and a flawed product. Will be doing more research next time and steering clear of Rheem. Will also ensure that I pass on my view of Rheem to anyone who cares to listen. When I add in all the electric boosts, parts and plumbers fees as well as d...Read more
ays without hot water-it's been a very expensive and very frustrating journey. And before Rheem tell me to ring to discuss this further-I am not prepared to waste any more time or money on you. You'd be better placed to stop manning the phones and start designing decent products. My advice to consumers is to steer clear of Rheem-there are so many better choices out there. Expensive, needs routine parts replacement, is faulty and badly designed. Doesn't work.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

My solar loline display reads solid green and four red pulses. The technician changed the impeller in the pump which led to hot water briefly being pumped from the roof but nothing since. Has the pump completely had it? Was paying to get an impeller changed just a waste of time and money. The readout is still the same so I am relying on the electric booster for hot water.

Unfortunately in my opinion these pumps and electronics are not built to last. Probably cheaper in the long run to replace the whole unit. You can do this yourself or kind hearted friend. I got sick of replacing storage tanks. Three in 11 years and pumps. Also solar panels leaking and rusting due to faulty materials. I have now replaced my solar system with a Stainless Steel Storage tank and switched back to off peak heating. Regards Bob
I am starting to think along those lines too. I've already replaced all the plastic fittings in the panels with brass ones. Even the Rheem technician told me to simply forget about solar and leave the booster turned on. Overall not a good advertisment for solar hotwater.
