Does any one have a drawing showing the Stellar water heater pilot assembly can be removed? I think that it is block due to been unused for a while.Looks like spider or insect has built a nest inside and block it as I cannot get the pilot light going again. How do you clean and unblock it.

We have had our Rheem Stellar for nearly 11 years (installed 32/10/2007) and have not had any problems until just recently. Called a plumber out yesterday, to fix another problem and while he was here I told him that the hot water coming out of the bathroom sink sometimes surges out and makes a screeching noise. He suggested opening the valve on tank to release some water every two months which would release pressure and stop the problem. Hoping the problem is fixed, but does this solution offered by the plumber, sound right?

Kind regards,

I'm not sure if it would fix the problem but you would assume that the plumber knows what he's talking about . I do know that you should release water out of the system every few months, so I would do as he suggested

We have a Rheem 360 unit which is leaking a continuous trickle of cold water from the expansion control valve - the unit was installed to our brand new house and we only got the handover less than 1 year ago. When I lift the lever the water gushes pretty well, then back to a trickle when released. Otherwise we have had no problem with the unit - Although perhaps a pilot light problem that was fixed before and now all forgotten about. Have we got a serious problem for such a new unit? (on a side note, I notice that there is no insulation to the hot water pipe going into the house, unlike the info in the manual, and there is an external pipe connecting the incoming cold water pipe and the outgoing hot water pipe - is this normal for installation in Perth?)

Where's the flue terminal, is it where the front vents are? Mine had a lot of steam coming out while it's heating. It stops after the tank is full and heating is complete. Note I am not affiliated with Rheem, this is just my experience with the product.

I really dislike the standard answers from Rheem Official. The purpose of these public questions should be to help other people straight away, without asking them to call for exactly the same question.

For the Rheem Stellar 360, 5 star, 160 liters, model 850360NO. The model can be found by removing the plastic door (there is a big plastic label on the inside).

This model has two anodes, which are accessible from the top of the water heater. Under the top plastic cover (held in place by a screw), there is a rounded metal dome which has to be removed as well (I used my hands with leather gloves to lift it from its sides) and there are two anodes underneath.

The user Zeiter has provided advice about the anode replacement on https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1251999

Unlike other people, I could not be happier with how this model performed in the five years since we installed it. The flame never turned off since then and we always had hot water. I use the release valve for a few seconds every few months.

Good one Nick, i was trying to work out what was holding the cover down. Ill look for this screw.
Agree with generic responses being of no use.

Has this issue been rectified with the pilot light on these models after 3 years? I can see around 50% of these product reviews have the same problem. Has the warranty been adjusted or has the pilot light issue been superceeded so the pilot light doesnt cause flame out all the time.

Just got off the phone with rheem I have the same problem and I is getting worse I spoke to their technical support and they told me that it has been rectified in the newer models so to me that is them admitting the product is a substandard product. When I said that to them they told me that it's my problem. My old hot water service was rheem as well it never went out I wouldn't buy anything rheem ever again I build commercial kitchen and will always suggest people don't install rheem even if it is specified

We go away for several months at a time and turn our gas hot water system off so it won't keep reheating. The problem is, it takes forever to relight. This time we arrived home tired from a very long plane trip and all we wanted was a nice hot shower but as usual my husband is out there late at night trying the ignite the system to no avail so we went to bed without a shower. This morning he is back out there and started the system within a few minutes. He didn't do anything differently, it just decided to ignite. Question: how does one start these systems after having them turned off for periods of time?

Hi there! I have a Rheem Stellar (about 5 years old), it doesn't seem to be heating the water very hot. Even if on max setting of 7. When you run water, the burner lights up and heats water - just not getting through to the house (lukewarm at best). Bur if you flush the pressure release valve at side, the water is very hot.

Any suggestions?

I'm not a plumber, so I'm not the best person to answer your question, but at a guess, it sounds like you might be having an issue with the tempering valve. This is the inline valve that mixes cold water at the system outlet so that people inside don't get scalded. They cost a couple of hundred dollars, so if you add the plumber bill to that you're likely to be looking at a $400 bill. At least your water will be hot and you can save some gas by turning the dial down as well.

What is it like at the kitchen sink? They don't usually have the mixer valve there or the laundry as you need hotter water there.

Rheem Stellar dimensions are as follows Height 1630, depth 600 and width 470 without fittings and 630 with fittings, fits perfectly into a Russian bomber to be dropped on an ISIS stronghold, but not much chop as a hot water system, makes noises as if a mad bomber is trying to get out, if you haven’t purchased anything yet think about a Gas instantaneous Rinnai Infinity, does an absolutely brilliant job. I threw my working Stellar in the tip and purchased two Rinnai infinity’s, one upstairs and one down stairs. Rheem will be as handy as a door on a canoe when it comes to your hot water problems.

I have a Rheem Stellar 360 HWS. It was installed just 7 months ago. The problem is that the pilot light goes out and the first we know of it is when we experience a cold shower. The pilot light goes out even if there is no wind. I noticed today that the hot water is now slightly cloudy. How do we stop the pilot light going out? I have a Rheem Stellar gas outdoor water heater system. How do I turn off the hot water supply from the water heater to change my kitchen tap? Is there an outlet valve I can turn off without having to turn off the water heater? Thanks, Dennis

2 answers
Pippo

You should have a stop valve on the cold water inlet of the HWS. Turn that off first, then turn on the tap where you wish to replace the valve to release any built up pressure. Replace the tap valve and turn the HWS cold water inlet back on. If you don't have a cold water inlet (you should), then you'll have to go for the mains valve instead..

Turn your pilot light back on. Your pilot light went off because you turned you gas off. Google how to turn pilot light on and you will see.
