Remove the spindle....
Started off slowly using monstera and palm fronds.....quickly became jammed...however removed spindle from exit point and it transformed into my new best friend. Quickly shredded range of materials from small branches to palms, vibernum etc. It is extremely noisy - wear earplugs, eye protection and gloves. Easy to open and clear, relatively light for moving around yard

Remove the spindle and wear earplugs
Like Doug above it took me about 5 minutes to remove the stupid spindle in the output chute. After that it worked well chopping up green material to about 15mm diameter. Jammed occasionally but thats quick to fix. Wear earplugs!! Its noisey. Blades get blunt quickly and are not that easy to remove to flip or sharpen.
I managed to break it last week putting in a 15mm branch and treading on the power cord. As it stopped it threw the blade axle off centre and stuffed the belt drive housing. Upon dissection all the internals are nylon and it has a ...Read more
vinyl belt drive. No parts are available online so it was beyond repair. Off to Bunnings as I had a pile of branches to mulch. I decided on the next model up and WOW. RSH2445S crushing shredder is really powerful. IMHO spend a few extra $$ and go for the next model. I used it on 20mm Hakea branches last week and thin cane today and it cuts it nicely into 15mm chunks. It is much much quieter and the blade is self sharpening which is a bonus.

No good, blocks up
I researched this product and thought ok, seems fine.
No, 2 minutes of mulching, five minutes of unclogging.
Can't put leafy branches in without trimming them with a machete.
Ended up returning it and manually trimming plants, took about 10 minutes to do what took me an hour with the mulcher.
Very disappointed.

Kept clogging, broke after 3 uses
Kept clogging, was having to open up after just a minute of use, especially with palm fronds. Broke after a few uses, opened it up to find an o-ring snapped and jammed between the blade and the guard.

Great mulcher but remove the stupid spindle first!
This is a good mulcher. As per other reviews it did clog up within the first 5 minutes of handling green pittoposrum silver sheen hedge cuttings. I literately pulled out the spindle at the bottom of the shute, it’s plastic and gives in easily. I don’t know what it’s purpose is, except clog up the exit. It then operated without a hitch for 4.5 hours mulching green and dry branches.

Regret buying this model
This machine is certainly not a mulcher, jams consistently
.Spend more time cleaning than using, had an old Rover muncher previously, wish I had kept that.
Very disappointed as Ryobi has a good reputation

Ok for dry dead sticks up to 40cm
I bought this machine so I could prune and mulch. You can't do that, you have to dry the cuttings out for a week or so first. It handled dried out Gumtree twigs and branches with ease but as soon as I tried to feed fresh cuttings through, it clogged and jammed up and over heated. Not what I wanted should have kept my $300. First Ryobi product I have been disappointed with.

noisest machine i have ever owned
Just does the job but you must wear very good earmuffs and have very understanding neighbours.
It is only 12 months old but have put in mothballs and had my old ozito fixed.
I note that ryobi also have a Silent shredder out. Reckon they should give me money back.
Would not recommend you buy the RSH 2445B
Maybe the prefix RSH should have told me something??

Terrible. 5 minutes into using it it jammed and stopped
We got it home from Bunnings, put it together, and I had palm fronds and small (12mm) bamboo to shred. My old Ozito shredder finally died after about 12 years. 5 minutes in I could feel it was jammed, overheated and stopped. My husband thought it would be fine but we had to open it and it was totally impacted, unusable. We’re on our way back to Bunnings now. We chose Ryobi as it had a 4 year replacement warranty and the Ozito Silent Shredder was out of stock. I’d go Ozito any day.

Nail scissors would be a better choice.
The blades get blunt before all the bark from one Manna Gum is mulched. I've never mulched anything else. I turned the blades over once with great difficulty. Now they're blunt again and I've still got about a quarter of the bark remaining. Blades are terribly expensive and seem to be only available from Bunnings. I'll have to see if I can sharpen them myself. Worst tool I ever wasted money on.

Took a bit of fiddling but now does the job
I had a giant weeping eucalyptus to trim and get rid of. I often like to buy mulch but thought of how long it took for eucalypt leaves to break down (and what a great mulch it actually made) so figured why not. So I went out and bought one. Put it together (easy) shoved a branch through.....results weren't good. So did what another reviewer did and took out that plastic rubber bit that covers the feeder. Result? - it worked perfectly. Weeping branches from thick to thin going through with little issues (doesn't do that well with multiple large ...Read more
branch offs but the leaves and smaller branches fed automatically through easy.) Did jam after a bit due to a full bin and some of the weeping branches circling the blade like string but was easy to get out.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Do yourself a favour... go out and buy it.
Awesome bit of kit. I've just purchased this little rippa and first thing I did was remove the plastic bar with the 5 discs in the discharge chute to the catch bin, now I've just had this beast running for 8 hrs straight ( that's right all you haters - 8 hrs) feeding any and everything that will fit into the feed chutes, including and up to it's stated 45mm diameter solid wood, and has mot missed a beat. Do your self a favour...... go out and buy it

It's great, noisy but I use earmuffs
I don't understand why everyone had a bad experience with this machine. I bought it today at Bunnings for $287. I was reluctant initially but I couldn't commit on Ozito brand. I want something that will last. They call this impact shredder so I know that it will be noisy. The silent one was $399 and I don't want to part with that much money. Anyhow, got it home assembled it in 20 minutes and started cutting down the bottle brush. I wanted to get rid of this tree plus our now dead'sh hedge (photina). Our bottle brush is almost the same height as...Read more
a two storey house so you can imagine how much I need to shred. I have to alternate between cutting it with multi-tool (as I don't have a chainsaw or reciprocating saw) and shredding. I can only cut branches the size of my arm. That's what my multi tool is capable of. So what's left in the tree are the trunk and big branches without leaves. The machine did its job with ease. No sign of overheating maybe because I was alternating with shredding and cutting the tree It only jammed twice throughout the whole shredding process and here's the reason why. The outlet of the cutting is at the front end of the bin. When it was half full the cutting starts to build up at the front instead of sliding to the middle of the bin. So you have a scenario where the bin is only half full but due to the build up at the front of the bin, the cuttings can't exit hence the clog. you need to occasionally check the bin and push the cuttings to the middle of the bin. when I finished, I had 9 bins full of mulch. I checked the blade after and it still looks sharp. I'm giving this 4 star because it is a powerful machine it can cut 30-35mm branch with ease. Ryobi claims it can cut 40mm+ but I did not try. Besides you need an almost straight branch to slide on the chute. It is noisy so you need to wear earmuffs. I will shred the hedge next week.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Absolute waste of time and money
I concur with all the other reviews for this terrible product. Holes are pathetic, overheats, clogs and jams continuously, incredibly noisy, spend more time fixing it than using it. When smoke started to appear after 5 minutes I suspected it needed a rest. Absolute rubbish, at least that is where it’s going. Good brand, rubbish product.

Ryobi Electric Impact Shredder RSH2445B
The machine I stupidly bought was a Ryobi Electric Impact Shredder model number RSH2445B. What a pity they don't have half stars for a rating because a half out of five is all it would get from me. The machine wasn't cheap. I expected far better value for money. It jams repeatedly. I can use it for a maximum of 10 minutes before it's jammed again. It overheats. This then causes it to cut out. Stop work, go away, come back in half an hour when it's cool and decides to go again. It takes an average of 60 hand movements to undo that stupi...Read more
d screw that holds the top down. You have to undo it every time it jams so you're wasting a good 5 minutes undoing and doing up the screw just to clear stuff out of it every time it jams which is repeatedly. You can't put green wood through, it jams. You can't put dried wood through, the machine overheats. You can't put leaves through, they cause the stuff coming out the other end to stick. So if you can't put leaves or green wood or dried wood through the thing, what CAN you put through it??? I bitterly regret parting with so much money for such a poorly designed, inefficient, ineffective machine! I bought it just over a year ago and have hardly used it because using it is Mission Impossible.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

A wasted purchase.
The machine is screamingly loud in operation. It clogs frequently and with various types of materials there is always the problem that within a minute or two there is clogging and even the plunger fails to clear the problem. Instead of reducing twigs to small pieces it reduces them to sawdust. It just does not do the job. Very disappointed

Avoid it, useless product!!
Purchased from Bunnings and used once for an hour to shred twigs less than 1cm thick from a wattle. Clogged and jammed at least 6 times in that hour, cleared it each time but it backed up from the chute again within 5 - 10 mins. I gave up and took it back to Bunnings who were happy to refund my money.
Worst power garden product I have ever purchased, don't buy it!!

almost useless
A very big waste of money, going to sell it, I have used it twice and it takes ages because you can only put 1 to 2cm twigs in it any larger and it jams,by the time you manage to manipulate the twigs down the chute and use up to an hour doing it you end up with tub just a quarter full. will always check reviews from now on.

Buyer beware!
I upgraded to this model in the hope that Ryobi might have learnt something from their earlier disaster (RSH2400RG). They haven't. It's only redeeming feature is that it has a catcher box (hooray!). But located right in the middle of the discharge chute is a plastic spindle holding about 5 plastic discs. Its function would appear to be to make it clog up faster and, sure enough, if you remove it as I did (which can only be done by cutting it in half and no doubt voiding your warranty) the machine will take about 20 minutes before it clogs up in...Read more
stead of 5. I have only ever tried to use this machine for mulching the bark from a single Manna gum. Before I have even finished, it is now taking so long and doing it so badly, I've decided to just burn the remaining bark. Also, it's difficult to close after cleaning because the lock-down screw is misaligned with its nut and the electrical interlock gets clogged with sawdust.Similar opinion? I have this shredder and have to unblock it frequently do to sticks clogging in the roller. Do I need to replace the blades? Also the nut in the middle of blades becomes loose.
4 answers
I removed the roller, although not recommended by the manufacture due to safety issues, but it did help.
It does not like all green mulching !!! Have to mix a bit of dry with the green cuttings
I did the same as Peabody. No safety issues unless you shove your arm up there whilst it’s on..... the roller is plastic and pulls out easily.
Blades are reversible,
I removed the roller and threw it in the bin and the machine works fine, you still have to unclogg it every hour or so though. Never had an issue with the bolt.

Bunnings has suggested this Ryobi shredder (RSH2445B) rather than the RSH2445T model for our needs, particularly as the cutting mechanism will cut leaves rather then just squash them.
Most of the reviews of this model are not encouraging and I am also concerned about the feeding shute/method (of both models) as it seems very small and that it would take a long time to feed smallish material into it.
I prefer to buy an electric machine rather than a petrol driven one.
So my questions are:
1. Does it cut leafy material and not just mangle/squash it?
2. Does it cut twigs into smaller pieces?
3. Is it painfully slow to feed in smaller material (rather than a longish branch type piece)?
2 answers
Don't waste your time and money with these shredders, you'll just end up frustrated and out of pocket. The mechanisms simply do not handle leafy material and continually jam. Twigs are ok but it is so slow that you you try to put larger pieces in which then jams the blades. You'll spend more time pulling it apart to clear jams and blockages than you will actually shredding. I ended up biting the bullet and getting a large petrol shredder and haven't regretted it. Hope this helps!!
