Overpriced policy
Vehicle insurance is so overpriced. I was able to get the exact same cover $400 cheaper with RAC. I have stayed loyal to SGIO for over 17 years but the renewal this year was just ridiculous.

SGIO Car Insurance
I am having a runaround with SGIO right now. Someone hit my vehicle and the person was at fault, the person did the right thing gave me his details and the SGIO claim number and he paid the access fee already to SGIO. I am still chasing it with SGIO, I have been hanged on several times by staffs, I have been promised to get a call back and I have taken a lot of times off work to call SGIO and until now it’s not resolved. I haven’t received a single call back.
I am giving them this week if is not resolved, I am going take it further;

Way overpriced
After 6 years having two vehicles and our home and contents insured with SGIO I decided to ring and inquire about a better deal on our insurance, after being quoted a considerable amount less by a reputable company. f crock. If it blew up what would there be to assess? And how do they deterring premiums if they "don't know" the market value. When I told her I was looking elsewhere she put me on hold for ten minutes then offered a pittance of a discount because I am "such a good customer". We used to have our boat insured through SGIO but cancelled that well over a year ago after buying a boat twice the size and insuring it elsewhere for half the price of what we had been paying. People - take notice of the ads on the TV - shop around. Our premiums have been going up and up and it's my own fault for not looking into this sooner. Today I saved nearly $1100 by ditching SGIO and going elsewhere. I honestly thought the State Government Insurance Office would be looking after WA residents best interests. I now think all they care about is profit. Their call centre is overseas, so if they are saving money on not employing Australians, why aren't the savings being passed on to us. e insurance company who I am now insured with (which was as per the Glasses Guide), I was quoted roughly the same price I was already paying, less the few dollar discount. You cannot provide a quote on market value if the software you are using does not have an estimate of the value of the car. Or is that why SGIO charges twice as much?

Poor Customer Service
After 35 years and being told I am a valued customer I discovered that I was being over charged. When I complained through their official online system their response was dismissive and certainly did not make me feel like "a valued customer". I am now really annoyed that I have probably paid too much the past 35 years.
I have now cancelled my policy and with another service provider which is over $100 cheaper, lower excess and higher agreed value.

SGIO have always being excellent to deal with but this time forgot to mention to me that the invoice had to be paid up front and then I had to be reimbursed and then sent an outsource company fr repairs that could not be done in my hometown

Sneaky like a lot of insurance companies
Initially terrific premium but every year it went up, more than doubling in 3 years even though I had no claims, my car's value decreases yearly, I didn't change any conditions on the policy. I feel they give me a good quote to get me in then simply up the premium every year. Changed to WOW ins. but if they do the same, they're gone too!

Horrible joke of an insurance agency
I've been chasing the payment owed to me for 4 months now. I spend 1/2 hr a day on the phone to them and get nowhere. I never asked to be hit, I just want my money. Terrible terrible service!

SGIO is a thieving company from its clients
It took over 8 months for them to get a basic repair job approved. Then they tried to scam me by only approving a patch up the job instead of proper replacement of parts from my new car.
I had to report them to the insurance ombudsman, then they got the repairs approved for the specifications.
Although it was not an at-fault claim, they then ripped me off and applied excess. I had to threaten legal action, then they removed the unwarranted excess.
It should have never come to this. Their staff are really friendly when they sell insurance but when you want to claim, they are rude, arrogant and simply unprofessional.

I was very satisfied with clear and polite customer support. My phone contact regarding a quote met my needs. Communucation with the call centre was informative and helpful. The call resolved my questions.

What happened to this company. I had a home claim for a robbery. The level of service initially was appalling. I had no follow up and no service. The entire help Centre is located in South Africa and you have no one assigned to your claim. The staff are distant and generally very poor.
My dealing with [names removed] was however outstanding. Once the matter was referred to a manager I started to get a service that is commensurate to the companies claims of care and professionalism. I have 5 SGIO policies both home and motor and do hope something is done to improve the level of support and over all staff professionalism.

considering cancelling my three policies after 16 years
Because after 2 weeks and many phone calls there is no sign of resolving a clear claim. There was a collision, the other driver was at fault, accepted it and provided us with his insurance details. We passed this on to SGIO, took the car to an SGIO recommended panel beater which provided a quote (replacement of the side door with a second hand door). We were told on a number of occasions that the quote was waiting to be authorized by SGIO, however we have now been told that they never received any paperwork from the panel beater and that Prudance, the assessor, needs to see the car. Not good enough.

Absolutely appalling service
Business customer for over 10 years. Ineptitude of call Centre staff when just trying to insure a new vehicle is breathtaking. Multiple phone calls taking hours over the simplest of scenarios. Avoid like the plague. Quoted one price - invoiced another. Cannot get details correct. Not enough time in the world to deal with this company! Imagine trying to make a claim.

Good value policy and fast efficient repairs when I had to claim
I have raised 3 claims with them and they always action these immediately. My car was hit by someone and the smash repairer they used, midland smash repairs were excellent.
SGIO are easy to deal with and haven’t tried to dodge claims

I can live without them!
I have changed all of my policies away from SGIO this year they use auto default to increase profits instead of giving loyal customers reductions they hike up the prices. Make sure you check the competition for a better price.

JUST LOST A CUSTOMER OF 22 YEARS !!!!
Ditching Australian jobs for more profit - South Africa is in no way connected to our "State Government" Insurance Office - they do not ring back even when they say they will - took two days and three phone calls to get a claim number - saving over $500 pa by going to RACWA (4 policies) PLUS better coverage - Ring RAC and find the difference for yourself - I'm sure you'll be glad you did.

Avoid if possible
Recently had a car accident. The car was towed and it took more than 2 weeks before my car could be accessed by SGIO. Reason? SGIO claimed that the towing company (TC) didn't send the invoice over. After being on the phone 3 days with both parties, I had to get the TC to send the invoice to me, and then forwarded it to SGIO!
Tried emailing them with comment. Got a respond that said I'll be contacted within 24h. Well, still waiting.

Arrogant and uncompetitive
A 21 year holder of 5 SGIO policies is offered a reduced renewal premium which is still 40% greater than a comparable policy. If you are a loyal customer, do yourself a favour and check the competition when your SGIO policy is due for renewal. You too will find that you are paying way too much for the same or lesser benefits. And when you give SGIO a last chance to compete, you will find SGIO displays a level of arrogance that beggars belief.
