Review form
On the survey form there needs to be space for comments.eg. With the assessment of people, I would give the repatriation dept 10/10 but much less for others - especially overseas staff. We couldn't contact Sydney office on most occasions which was frustrating.

"Agreed Value" as determined by SGIO meant my car was under insured!
Your premiums are what they are and you would think that by paying them that in the horrible and unlikely event that you have an accident and your car is written off that you'll be covered to replace like for like. It isn't until you need to make a claim that you realise how important it is to question every little detail and complete your own research on what your car is currently worth before renewing your policy. Don't take SGIOs word for it. My car has just been written off, through no fault of my own and unfortunately, i am not going to b...Read more
e able to replace like for like as the "agreed value" as determined by SGIO each year when I renew my policy is significantly less than what it will cost me to replace like for like (not including all the aftermarket extras). Yes, you can negotiate your agreed value but I didn't think to do this because my renewal paperwork states that the value is determined by taking into consideration the year, make, model as well as relevant industry data. So one would assume that SGIO has done their research! My advice... do your own research people and read the fine print. SGIO clearly does not have your best interests at heart. NB: SGIOs response to this (before I published my review) basically said that I should have taken out a market value policy because a) it’s cheaper and b) I would have got a better payout. I’m not sure where this original response went?? Likely deleted after I complained about how utterly ripped off and unvalued as a customer of 14 years that comment made me feel.3 comments

February). I’ve taken my concerns to the FOS and hope that they can support a fair and just outcome to what should have been a very straight forward process. Regardless of the outcome, I can’t wait to have it all finalised so that I no longer have to have anything to do with your pathetic excuse for a company. Its not been a pleasant experience and the current catch phrase on your website “from the Kimberley to Albany, you know we’ve got your back” rings absolutely no truth in my opinion. I certainly will not be using nor recommending your insurance policies in the future.

Great product Terrible call centre
The call centre was noisy and difficult to hear
I had to request every little detail
The person was very polite but very poorly trained
Did not tell me I would be charged on the day when the policy was not required for another month

Been obscenely overcharged for years
With a new car I took the opportunity to get new quotes for my Mum's car, home and contents. We find out SGIO have been obscenely overcharging her for years. So much for "loyalty" that only works one way in their favour. They rely on long term customers to just pay the premiums - never looking at how circumstances can change or lower premiums. It's often called "the lazy tax". Well my Mum is far from lazy but she is elderly - she just assumed a company that she has loyally supported for years would do the right thing by her. That was very ...Read more
far from the truth. All the new quotes, with comparable cover, were less than half the cost and some had better excess and more generous cover. Never going back to this company. If you are being persuaded to stay because you see the "loyalty" discount on the policy or think other companies won't cover you as well - don't be fooled. Get some other quotes. You will save thousands of dollars.1 comment

Increase in premium of 11%
First of all let start to say that I have made a claim with them before and that went smoothly (used their recommended service centre). SGIO was always more expensive than the competitors out there and generally their increase in premium was ok I guess..but in the last couple of years they have been jacking up the price a lot...got my renewal for a lesser value and an icrease of 11% which considering being a customer with 4 products for 5 years biw would have made a difference but unfortunately no. Punished for where I live...
Policy premium went up for my car because the raised premium was based partly on where I live. Once again the actuaries at SGIO are up to their usual gouging tricks. Their explanation lacks credibility yet again. How about a bit of honesty and transparency.

Excellent home/car insurer
My policies with SGIO are great and competitive. I have enjoyed a discount for multi-policies for many years. Now they can be managed online - that's flexibility and convenience. Raising a claim was just as easy with their very helpful Customer Support Team. For example, a MV claim earlier this year went smoothly and it closed with a refund in my bank account after I paid a $1200 excess. In my case I have no hesitation in recommending SGIO insurance for homes and family cars.

Price increase of 30% 14 days after cover note expired
They sent me an email with the policy and as is life I forgot about it as I thought they would send a mailed copy. Remembered that I might not have paid 14 days after cover note finished "they should have contacted me for a reminder". Phoned them and the price went from $407 to $$620. Wasted 1 hour on the phone to be told you have to wait 48 hours for a resolution, bad service. Been with them for over 25 years and this is how you get treated.

Don't waste your time, this company is no more!
Same as most of the reviews below, WAKE UP SGIO, what you are calling service is lacking and your not so helpful call centre needs to be put back in Australia! Had multiple policy's with these guys, just about to cancel my last policy (car, $130 per month) as they increased my renewal by $20 a month, when I asked why they could not give a clear answer but provided a scripted answer that pretty much implied we do not care about you or your car anymore. Took all of 2mins of my time to find a better deal for cheaper on-line. I cannot stress enough, SGIO will be gone in the near future due to poor customer service and greedy policies which increase per year rather than rewarding loyalty.

After being a customer for decades. First of all cancelled my policy because was unable to pay on 11.58pm 24.12.16. Christmas day in other words. Then increased the price by over $10 per month. Reason being is that the vehicle is older and valued less. Namely 2006 model costing around $38/month. Previously around $25/m which is an average for other insurance parties. Will be swapping for sure.

that we do not appreciate your loyalty as we absolutely do. It is correct that as vehicles get older prices can change due to certain rating factors and we do re-evaluate rating information quite regularly so for example a quote you got 4 weeks ago may have changed price drastically based on environmental risk factors.
