Disappointing
Had been with SGIO for over 30 years. can't comprehend why my premium kept increasing despite being a safe driver and the value of the vehicle depreciated.
Got two independent car insurance quote for similar coverage. Very disappointed after being a loyal customer with 65% bonus discount & 12.5% loyalty bonus and your premium is still higher.
After some consideration, had no choice but to drop it.

Worth the premium
My mistake, petrol in a diesel car. After dark, 110 kph zone middle of nowhere. Called SGIO, found the right option. Recovery vehicle, lift to a hotel, hire car next morning, all sorted. That simple.
Excellent outcome, ultimately with the fuel system completely serviced and guaranteed by the mechanic of my choice.

Does not follow up progress of costumer claims
I have been involved in a car accident with an SGIO member. I have been trying to contact them for several weeks to follow up the progress of my car with a very high weight time on the phone. During the time i have been passed on to multiple phone lines giving the same details over and over again. I have been told that my car was to be assessed on a monday(25/09) and that they will only insure the cost of the holding of the car til then, when the day came i called the towing company and have been told that SGIO has not followed up for my car. I...Read more

A nightmare experience
I had been a customer of SGIO without claiming for several years .
On my access driveway at suburban home a vehicle drove from a completely blind spot on my neighbours lawn and crossed my path .I sent photos and descriptive sketches and texts to SGIO and when they appeared to not understand I was not at fault I appealed for an assessor to visit my home ( 5kms from CBD), to be acquainted with the scene at first hand . They refused and I paid an excess, cancelled my policy and will never have anything to do with SGIO again.

Caravan Insurance - wouldn't insure with anyone else
After rolling our caravan in extreme weather and leaving it on the side of the road, we drove to the nearest town to report the accident to SGIO and to see what we needed to do next.
Being distressed, I was amazed how caring and compassionate the lady I first spoke to was and she took care of everything, finding a tow trucking company to pick up the van and sorting out the claim. I didn't have to do anything more - I was so surprised. I was also super impressed that the call didn't go oversees and I could understand everything I was being to...Read more

Overpriced Premiums and no regard for customer loyalty
I have just cancelled my comprehensive car and house and contents insurance with SGIO as their premiums were consistently going up and there was never any help to find a way to reduce them. I have since reinsured with RAC with a $500 saving on my car insurance and a $900 saving on my house and contents. I have been a loyal customer of SGIO for many years, not any more!!

Totally over priced
Check out other options online as sgio can't offer reasonable comparisons. Premiums were double + what others quote and call centre made no suggestions on how to lower premiums.

Don't bother
SGIO took two whole weeks just to make their minds up on whether or not they were going to repair, or write-off the car, they took a further month to repair it after that.
The assessor did their absolute best to keep me in the dark over progress, (it was glacial), and they missed every deadline they offered. The assessor asked me if I wanted some other bits and pieces fixed at the same time but when I asked for quotes, they never got back to me, so that is obviously part of some rort they have with the repairer.
Still waiting for an offered refund on part of the repairs and it's 7 weeks.
Car returned to me but the steering wheel scrapes so will have to go back.

Was involved in a hit and run.
Took over 3 months for claims to settle. Found the claims department very difficult to deal with.
The communication was very poor. Their claim assessor was sneaky and lied about material facts. Won't reply to emails when question when what he told me over the phone.
They seemed more interest in finding ways to delay/avoid the claim then helping you with your unfortunate situation.

Over promised and under delivered
I was told the repairs would take 5 days. They took 8. I was told SGIO would provide a taxi from the repairers and back to pick up up my car. What I wasn't told was there is a $50 limit on the taxi fares so I found myself having to pay extra for the trips both ways. I would have been better to have I chosen a repairer close to my home.

Great insurance
Great service from start to finish. Brought a car 5 years ago and had it insured with SGIO from the start. Every year I would check my premium against other insurers and SGIO had the best price by far every year.
9 days ago I was involved in a car accident. I lodged a claim online and that day was called to provide a bit more information and was informed that someone would assess my car the next day. Appalling
Absolutely ridiculous and needing to take my problems with the claim to someone higher up in SGIO. I have had quite complicated issues with my claims which the call operators were unable to help with, there has been "miscommunication" (or lying- I don't know) between this and other person's insurance company. I have sent numerous emails voicing my concerns- none of which have been acknowledged. Do not go with this company please! You're meant to pay insurance for security not for further problems.

Chat customer service
Contacted them through their chat system, asking to give me a better deal since I've been with them for 6 years. We chatted for few minutes and gave a new info, bla bla bla... customer service's last reply was "Kindly bear with me as I update that for you." Waited for 15-20 minutes to get a reply and suddenly a new person, asked me the same questions. Here is the funny story... I didn't get any reply from that person. A new person came and we had to go through all through again. Guess what?! The previous customer service went out for LUNCH!!! HAHAHAHAHA... what a joke...

Poor value for money
We have many vehicles, some of which were insured with SGIO in the past, we have moved away from SGIO because of cost.
I recently was seeking a quote for a Hilux SR5. It was difficult to obtain, the operator had issues with finding the car and the eventual cost was some $700.00 more expensive than others.
They seem non-competative.

SGIO Great value and customer service
Compared to other quotes SGIO was by far the best value
The website is user friendly and contacting Customer Service
Custom Support phone contact was excellent. The team member was helpful, willing, good sense of humour and knew the products and best options for the individual, her English was clearly spoken with an English or Australian accent.
I read the previous reviews - I thought that there was an option for selecting SMS or mail hard copy to receive your documents if you don’t have a mobile phone. i am sure if you emailed SGIO they would be able to accomodate your preferred option for contact.

Going to cancel my three policies (home, contents and car)
SGIO values the cost of doing business over responding to the customers as individuals.
It's website requires a mobile phone number, a number must be entered. SGIO then sends all communications by SMS to that number. It does not allow a customer to not provide a mobile number; it does not allow a customer to choose how they are communicated with, for example, if they prefer email.
The renewal notices for my policies were sent by SMS. My policy documents were sent by SMS. I do not have a mobile phone. I know many people who do not own a mobile or have one only for emergency use.
SGIO makes it abundantly clear it does not want customers like us.

t supplying a valid number for a mobile phone. A landline number is rejected. There is no provision on your website to choose the method of communication, SMS, email or mail. Your competitors do and I have now switched to a company, Woolworths, which accepts a landline number and whose website asks which method of communication I as the customer want. Thirdly, SGIO does send policy documents as attachments to mobile phones. A relation, whose phone number I gave in my application, received both renewal reminders and the policy document after I foolishly renewed my policy. Full marks to your call centre though. The lady in the Philippines immediately arranged a full refund when I asked.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
