I have been baking cakes for over 40 years and when I finally got a new kitchen I chose the smeg FS61XNG8 free standing electric oven and gas cooktop. Love the gas cooktop but I have been trying to bake cakes for the past year and have not had any success. Have read the manual over & over also went online for tips but trial and error hasn't worked either, so terribly disappointed, so is the family!

I was considering getting this stove but am alarmed at the number of bad reviews.
SMEG used to have a great name but wondering if this is still the case.
I'm a food technology teacher and cook a lot so want an excellent product with reliability and long term satisfaction.

My previous stove was Smeg but over 15 years old and was great. Stove very difficult to clean oven. It’s as if residue from cooking gets into the enamel and cannot be cleaned. They are unfortunately made very cheap.

Can you kindly email: [email protected] with your full name, address and a contact telephone number please mark this information to the attention of Kylie. Kind regards, Smeg Australia.
We were also considering purchasing an FS61XNG8 but concerned at the bad reviews. Has the quality that SMEG was known for dropped? Are they still made in Italy?

Trying to remove the door for cleaning. Inserted a 'pintle' into the hinge but it actually prevents you lifting the door off. Any suggestions?

re replacement decals available for the markings on this oven? We have only had it for 5 months and all the markings for temperature and function are rubbing off. Not impressed! Only used damp sponge to wipe over the panel.

Can the oven for this appliance be connected to a standard 10 amp power point or is a larger e.g. 15 amp power circuit required?
2 answers
The plug won't actually fit. You need a sparkie to chop the end off and hard wire it. I found this confusing as well.
Lesley R.Smeg
Hi Mike I would like to advise that the plug MUST be 15amp - kind regards Lesley @ Smeg

We purchased our smeg free standing electric oven and 4 burner gas top in September 2015. We have rarely used the oven, to be exact 4 times in three years. This evening I turned on the oven to roast a chicken and it kept short circuiting our power, and then stopped working altogether no heat and no fan working. Do we require an electrician or a smeg appliance repair person, to fix the problem? Also like many other reviewers we have had no success setting the clock. Instructions in the manual do not work.

How do you reset the time? Please advise as the instruction manual is incorrect

Lizzyawatsons
Thank you for your enquiry.
To change the time of day you need to press the 2nd & 3rd buttons from the left under the clock together then release them straight away and press the plus + sign to get to the right time.
If you go over the time press the 2nd & 3rd buttons again then the minus – sign.

how do I clean the flame spreader crown without scratching it please? I only have this cooker a month and alreadythey need cleaning, the instruction manual says use a non-abrasive detergent but I am not sure what to use and I dont want scratchs on it

Hi Shelia use Gumption and a green scourer, the oil marks are baked on at high temperature and will take a bit of scrumming to get clean.
Regards Chris
Steve C.Smeg
Hello Shelia,
The best way to clean the burner skirts to first soak them in hot soapy water, then you can use some Jiff and a soft scourer.
This method of cleaning will not damage the burner skirts.
Just make sure the detergent that you are using does not have any bleach added.
Thank you but do you not think jiff or gumption will scratch them. I want to clean them wuthout scratching
