Ticks many boxes, very versatile.
With baby on board we decided to upgrade the Impreza to a Forester as we needed the extra space and enjoy heading out on camping trips. The sedan wasn't cutting it any longer. I've been generally unimpressed with the performance of previous cars so this was an opportunity to pick up something with a bit more oomph. I test drove the current version and whilst nicely packaged, the performance was lacking and reminded me of the Impreza and some engine whine. With a bit of searching and test driving, I managed to pick up one of the very last XTs fu...Read more
lly optioned for a great price down at Subaru Docklands. Good sales process overall. About 3.5 months in now, the car is going well. I ensure to warm it up each time and most of the driving has been city based which is not great on the fuel efficiency side TBH. Over 12 litres per 100, with some motorway driving into the high 9s. Have had a couple longer country trips and this brings the fuel consumption into high 7s. So I think the official numbers are not accurate but that's usually the case with most cars from what I've read. But on the other hand, the performance is there on demand and it really goes. Not many cars in this category and price range that can complete. Also it's very sturdy and a comfortable ride on rough roads. Lots of features in the XT premium category. I like the adaptive cruise, lane assistant is good, autonomous breaking a little too sensitive but has helped me on a couple occasions at the start. Excellent sound system. Great outward sight (including huge sunroof) and easy to judge dimensions so it feels like a nice and compact SUV. Stepping up to a proper 4WD would be a bit too much for city parking and was not preferred by my partner. Overall, I really enjoy driving the car and it's perfect for a small family. Time will tell but the experience so far with Subaru has been positive and their cars seem reliable.Purchased in May 2021 at Subaru Docklands.

Safe, Reliable and wonderful car to drive! Highy Recommend!
I have a my18 XT Premium Forester, for the uninitiated that’s means a petrol turbo charged, symmetrical All Wheel Drive vehicle with leather interior. I owned it since new for nearly 18mths with over 32,000 km travelled.
Coming from a Highway Patrol background and presently being a National Road Safety and Compliance Manager for a global company, I have over 30 years experience in road safety and collision investigations, I cannot give a higher recommendation than I personally entrust this vehicle to convey my most precious cargo of two kid...Read more
s 9 and 7, .... alright and the minister for war and finance (wife) as she’s hovering around me as I write. It is often brushed over or dismissed by reviewers that don’t understand crash dynamics the actual benefits of “Symmetrical” AWD that only Subaru offer standard from a general road handling and holding in all conditions but it seriously rises above all others in adverse conditions where the traction is second to non. Add to this all the safety technology and wizardry and you have an amazing vehicle for the money. From a safety background it’s the attention to detail to safety that makes this car a true champion of champions. The seating position and driver ergonomics are in a word “brilliant” giving excellent all round vision even to the placement of side mirrors to minimise obstruction in usual blind spot at the front in some other brands. The “eyesight” features along with all the other multifaceted safety features come together in concert to deliver a premium safety package far beyond the price paid delivering true value for money. I must mention here that impact forces in collision are massive that I’ve seen Subaru handle in real world collision situations extremely well protecting the occupants from potential serious or fatal injuries. This is due to Subaru’s clever design and impact crumple zones again often overlooked by reviewers. Let me explain, they have a boxer motor (flat) that it actually designed go under the vehicle not into front seat occupants as normal raised engines do in frontal impacts, as I’ve seen previously in serious or fatal collisions. I would not dismiss this fact, seriously clever and smart. You only need one collision whether you are in the right or wrong the laws of physics and impact forces come into play and it is always better to put the odds in your favour as you can’t have a dress rehearsal. I have also been towing an Adria caravan since December 2018 that’s 1.6 ton fully laden albeit to my wife that appears to be trying to impersonate a gifted prophet of carry enough food to feed as well as clothe the 5000 whilst allocating me enough space for 1 pair of underpants, singlet and socks...although I still waiting for her to turn water into wine for medicinal purposes only to no avail! So, I recently towed it for 4,200 Klm over 3 weeks up steep hills in extreme temperatures 45 degree heat and all terrains and with the turbo model these hills were not noticed. It is extremely comfortable for all passengers and my two kids under 9 love it, especially albeit perfectly their back seat driving techniques vide watching all instruments inciting entertaining back seat driving conversations genetically passed on by the mobile handbrake aka Clayton driving instructor that has had more prangs than Evil Kaneval in front passenger seat (wife)- but seriously they all love the seat and door pockets. It has the perfect carry space for our “soccer” kit.... yes dad.... alas our AFL gene was not dominant here compared to the dark side (in-laws)! That said, the Forester has never failed us for room.Purchased in October 2021 at Trivett Subaru Paramatta for $47,500.00.

Very Disappointed !
Extremely disappointed after purchasing new XT Premium 2016 model.
Very very annoying CVT transmission, jerky, you cant able to control the slow speed.
Very very bad steering and poor handling, have to hold steering with both hands all the times because it always shaky.
Bad Fuel economy
Bad road control, vehicle shakes alot on highways.
Sat NAV is totally useless
Herman Cardin speakers are not impressive, it sounds like pretty standard speakers.

MY18 Forester XT - best decision ever
With Bub arriving, it was time for an upgrade. This was the best decision ever. The seats are really comfortable, especially sitting at the back with Bub. I am easily car sick and the forester was sturdy enough for me that I wouldn’t be sick in the back even if I was travelling for an hour. Favourite features are the front arm rest in the middle, leg room at the back, and keyless lock and unlock technology.
Only negative I can say is the GPS isn’t great and sometimes gives a route that doesn’t make sense. Otherwise we’re very happy

Great features, drives superbly
Pros:
• Excellent steering, acceleration, braking and suspension.
• Looks brilliant!
• Roomy interior.
• Quality construction as you would expect from Subaru.
• Wonderful safety features inc. eyesight camera which alerts you about things like lane departure and collisions ahead.
• One of the best 4wd’s in its class, IMHO.
Cons:
• Cannot program automatic central locking after driving at a certain speed (eg, 10km/h).

Over technical, loaded with rubbish
Great car if it was less technical, the push button is a joke, how many times I’ve left the car running because of the stupid ignition system, the electronic rear hatch is stupid, the eyesight system is a joke and turns off when sunlight is in your vision, the collision braking system is also a joke. In hindsight the base model is a better car without all the crap, I only got the xt premium because it was the best, what a fool I was.

What a machine!
Awesome Car... I have the 2017 XT Premium... Family sized, unassuming on the road but for an SUV it goes.
It drives more like a car than an SUV and the interior is excellent, sure there is too much plastic but unless you're spending $80k + that's what you get these days.
I love it, this is my first Subi but won't be my last.

Turbo fuel consumption
Sold my deisel colorado for a 2013 turbo Forester. Absolutely perfect for me around town and the occasional dirt road. However I find the fuel consumption a lot more than specified. Also the boot liner sold for the car is crap. Doesn't fit the boot properly at all and slides everywhere. I love the turning circle and the power of the turbo if u do have to over take. The sports button s# is not really needed for me but nice to hear the noise of the engine every now and then.
All up it's just me my hubbby and my two yr old. I have to take a cheap stroler when shopping because the big pram is just too squishy but small issue for such a great car

Forester Turbo XT Premium - Great Fun to Drive
Believe or not this car was a replacement for a drivers car (a BMW 330c convertible) which though much loved was no longer practical and the repair bills just kept mounting up. The Turbo XT premium has really surprised me and we both enjoy the driving experience - it really surges when you need to put the accelerator down! Accessories and Features are state of the art but overall, its' simply great fun to drive, has great visibility and overall the other contenders are boring, boring!

perfect suv for me
I have been looking forna suv in the range of mazda tribute cx5 Rav4 Xtrail Hondu crv vw tiguan and compared all models in that range for about 6 months.
i looked at youtub comparison and diffrent writers opinions.
i picked the forester because it was the most reliable high Ancap, most features for the money.
most of the features are made by the same Japanies companies that make the Mercedes features.
The big draw card was looking back inside the vehicle you have a clear alround view.

Great to drive.
Had my Subaru Forester XT for 6 months and find it a great drive, good handling, wide vision, great acceleration when needed. Comfy interior with plenty of leg and head room especially for tall teenagers in the back. Cargo space a little small. The infotainment system is great, but the navigation program is a little hard to get used to. Fuel economy is fine for a turbo engine. Overall a great car.

I love my XT forester
Went the 2015 XT forester over the 3.6r Outback for the turbo and fun appeal. The sound system is amazing and enough room for the whole family of 4. Nice low down torque and just a hell of a lot of fun to drive. 7 inch screen is great. Only gripe is some vibrations in dash but will get that looked in next service. Simply the best car I have ever owned.

One year on with the Forester XT 2014
The engine is too quiet!? Have to look at the tacho when in manual mode. It is very good otherwise, dare I say better than the 2.5 engine.
The CVT in this car does have fixed ratios when in manual mode with 6 speeds in I or S and 8 speeds in S# (sports sharp) mode. When in drive mode the paddles can be used to select gears and the box stays in that fixed gear for a while - pretty good - but still little engine braking with an auto.
The adaptive cruise control with the cameras is very handy when it slows you down the speed of the car in fr...Read more
ont. I miss it when in another car with ordinary cruise control. Make sure you get windscreen cover with your insurance when you have adaptive cruise. Not only do you replace the windscreen, but you have to have the cameras realigned for the next glass. The reversing camera works but would really like it to be able to show a projection when turning of the expected course - even a Holden has it?Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Very happy with my choice
I wanted to leave my review for couple of months so I could get the full impression of what the Forester is like to live with. After driving 5,500 km's in 2 months I've got to say I'm very happy with the Forester as my choice of vehicle.
I find in XT Premium form it has all the luxury and safety extras I could want in a car along with plenty of power. I live in a rural area and ride quality and quietness were both important for me, and while assessing that is more of a subjective opinion, for me the Forester easily has that covered.

Great SUV.
I've have my 2014 Forester XT Premium for about 18 months.
What I like:
Great car to drive. Overtakes easily. Handling is excellent. Great acceleration. Very easy to go too fast. Has a full size spare in case you get a flat. Overall well put together.
What could be better:
Infotainment system is average for a top if the line car. Stock Bridgestone tyres are rubbish. I got about I year before needing to change.
Would recommend to any WRX drivers who are a bit too old to keep getting pulled over

Great car
My second xt premium with an Audi in the middle! Standard of appointments and power alone are enough to convince me. Easily tows a horse float or a caravan at freeway speeds. Service experience 2nd to none (eastern Subaru lilydale) oh the Audi .... Never again! Purchased new, great looking, fun to drive and capable of reasonable off road work

Subaru Forester XT Premium Review - Honest Pros & Cons
We were deciding between Forester S or XT, decided for a 4k extra we opted for the more powerful engine. Love the acceleration for an SUV, the looks, as powerful as a v6, fuel mileage expected around 9-9.5 on 95ron, can do between 8-8.5 on freeway. haven't revved hard on the suv yet but 7.5 secs to 100km is definitely achievable, probably more if use S mode. Back seat can alter angle - great for long trips. heaps of leg room for rear, slightly smaller boot compare to others but enough for use
Disappointments include poor screen resolutio...Read more

2014 Subaru Forester XT Premium
So far my only problem is the low beam headlights. The halogen units are designed to throw light out to the sides, so visibility directly in front is poor. Also once dark the Eyesight constantly disables (as it can't even see), which also disengages the cruise control, which can be very annoying.
For example, I travel a 100km round trip to work everyday, 20km is unsealed roads. Whilst on the unsealed road (before I had sidesteps fitted I was only doing a max of 40km/h) I had a very large kangaroo sitting in the middle of the road in front of...Read more
me. It wasn't moving so I turned off the high beam lights in case the bright light was stunning it, and I was shocked to discover the kangaroo only 3 metres in front of me disappeared! I had the vehicle back at the dealer the next day. They are currently still looking into this, but have suggested I use high beam at all times where possible. Hopefully this is rectified very soon. Everything else I love! We went to Sydney and back last weekend and not one problem! Went awesome on fuel, was averaging 8.2l/100km (which was a huge concern for before purchasing vehicle as a lot of Subaru's have a reputation for using a lot of fuel) but it uses less fuel than my last vehicle (2013 Kia Sportage) and performs better, is more comfortable, better quality, overall better vehicle (you get what you pay for). Comfort, performance, ride, fuel consumption, looks and finishes Low beam head lights - poor visability2 comments

Many drivers also know how irritating and dangerous it can be when there is an oncoming vehicle or a vehicle following you that fails to dim their high beam lights. SUV that excels
The 2013 Subaru Forester XT Premium is the most sure footed powerful SUV in its class and price range. It might be lacking the boy racer bonnet air intake but you soon release the XT can get you down the road very quickly with its 177kw turbo 2 litre engine with CVT transmission. The eye sight safety technology is a great feature but my only issue is it will turn its self off if the sun is directly effecting the cameras and like wise if raining very heavily but will turn on again automatically once the eye sight can read the road.
