My Dyson D37 power head makes a poping noise when engaged. I have checked for blockage and checked the filter. Any suggestions?

A popping sound usually indicates an obstruction within the airways of your machine. We encourage running through the checks outlined via the link below which should help get your machine back up and running as it should:

Hi Guys, I bought the Barrel Dyson DC37C origin some time ago from Aldi - the only thing I don't like it to a point I am going to give it away is it makes an horrible noise - very loud squeaking - when used on tiles. That is in both head positions. And my house is mainly tiles. Is anything I can do or just put it in the bin?
Pls reply also to my email address [email removed]

We certainly wouldn't expect any of our machines to make a loud squeaking noise when in use.

We would kindly ask you to forward your details and the serial number of your DC37C to [email protected].

Hi Adrian,
I’m having the same issue with mine in a new house I’ve moved into which has tiles and no carpet. Loved my Dyson on carpet but it’s terrible on tiles :(
Which tool is the one you use on floors? Mine only came with the little corner one, the small area one and the little brush.
If you could point me in the right direction that would be great thanks!

Hello, is there a way to clean the dual floor tool? Ours seems to be stuck on the carpet brush and does not switch to hard floor mode even after pressing on the button. I have to push the carpet brush up with my fingers, but it seems to fall down again. We’re thinking there is some debris stuck in there. Is it safe to wash under running water?

Hi Sammi,

Thank you for your message.

Sorry to hear the Dual Mode Floor Tool isn't locking into the Hard Floor Mode.

We wouldn't anticipate this to happen, and unless there is visible dust or debris in the mechanism, this shouldn't cause an issue.

We would kindly ask for you to email your details (and if possible, photos of the tool) to [email protected] and our Dyson Experts will be more than happy to help.

We look forward to hearing from you.

I am so disappointed in this vacuum. To top it off other issues the cord retraction has been broken for months and I've just finally gotten around to waiting in the phone queue to book it in for repair only to be told it's 3 weeks out of warranty and so I will be provided a quote to fix it, but only after I go to the trouble of dropping it off. Is it worth getting it repaired? Am I throwing good money after bad? The last Dyson I had lasted 10 years with no issues.

I think you’re throwing good money after bad if you pursue this because I believe the model itself is riddled with issues..... My son has a much older Dyson and it’s still performing really well at every level with NO issues whatsoever, which was the reason I bought my Dyson. Regrettably..... I note with interest that the model I purchased from the Dyson online website was dramatically marked down ( by $200 ) which suggests it’s a model they’re trying hard to get rid of.

Not an easy question to answer. If your capers is flat/depressed by age, etc I'd suggest not. If it's lying flat due to regular use the Dyson has great suction and will assist the pile to rise, but can't fix an old carpet.

Dyson
Dyson Team ..Dyson

Hi Helen,

Thanks for your question. The suction on a DC37C is very strong, however it's hard to say if the carpet will look new again. That would depend on the type of carpet as to whether the pile will stay lifted, and how much wear and tear it has undergone since installation.

Hi, I have a Dyson DC37C and it works great but there is a blockage right at the end of the pipe right before it goes into the dust bin. I have watched all the videos and they show that you unscrew the piece over the top and then you should just be able to twist apart the hose but no matter what I do I can't get it apart. All my housemates have tried too. Are we doing something wrong?

Hi Aria,

Thanks for your question.

Twisting the hose from horizontal to a vertical angle should enable this to come free, the seal can be quite firm, especially the first time you remove the hose. This is the official video for this technique, starting at around 50 seconds in:

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out.

While there is a valve in the ball on the machine, it is highly unlikely for there to be a blockage in the ball. This sound normally indicates a blockage somewhere else.

I would encourage you to run through the checks outlined via the video here, and you should be able to find what is causing this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PheQ00a_urU

Hi, we purchased a Dyson DC37C last week and have just opened, assembled and started using today. It is assembled correctly, however we have found the suction doesn't seem strong enough to pick up hair off carpet! This being our daughter's long hair not a pets. Is this normal? If so does that mean we need to buy the Turbine Head? If this is the case we are extremely disappointed as we would have paid the extra and purchased the more expensive one that already has a Turbine Head included.
I look forward to hearing back from you.

Hi Louise,

Thank for your question.

Your machine should have no trouble picking up hair on carpet, but for the best pick up of hair we do recommend to use a turbine head http://shop.dyson.com.au/spare-parts/turbine-head-912969-02

To ensure your machine has no blockage that could be affecting the pick up please go through your machine as shown on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PheQ00a_urU

If this does not resolve the issue, please send us an email at [email protected] and we will be happy to help.

Our Dyson has no problems picking up hair. We don't have the Turbine Head.
If it is new maybe return it for a replacement as maybe there is a problem with the vacuum you have.
New machines shouldn't be blocked.

Hi Louise,
Our Dyson picks up both pet and human hair off the carpet without a problem and without the turbine head. Ours is a low pile wool carpet though. I'd contact Dyson and trouble shoot with them. :).

I've had my Dyson DC37C since December, but noticed that the dual mode floor tool that comes standard is always scratching my boards. I figured it wasn't designed for floor boards, but after finally getting around to reading up online (and no other tools compatible with this model for floor boards) - it appears it is. Is it likely that the tool is faulty? We've just had our floor re-sanded and polished, and really concerned about using this tool as it might scratch my floor again!

I know exactly what you mean! It sounds terribly like it is scratching my floor boards as I vacuum, it is like the bristles aren't long enough to cover the hard plastic underneath or something? This floor tool is lousy.

Kat, did you end up calling Dyson and getting the combo floor head fixed or replaced?
Ours was scratching our floors so we ended up having to duct taping/rigging up an old vacuum cleaner head to fit the DC37C (doesnt work very well). I would love to have a proper vac head to fit the end of our cleaner and am not willing to pay for a new head that shouldn't have scratched my floors in the first place.

There is definitely a Turbine head available for your DC37c, you are correct - it is the Turbine head designed for the DC23 which is compatible with your model. This Turbine can be purchased for $129.00 AUD by contacting our 1800 239 766 helpline, or by using the quick link below:

Almost certainly. Ours worked for a while, but then started to vibrate and become so noisy I had to buy 3 pairs of earmuffs: one for me, one for my wife, and one for the cat. The cat didn't like hers so we just let her outside.

Dyson
Dyson Team ..Dyson

Hi Nina,

Thanks for your question.

It is not normal for a Turbine head to not rotate, nor is it normal for it to become extremely noisey. For both issues we would recommend to get in touch with our customer care helpline on 1800 239 766 so that we can offer support moving forward.

Be mindful, that a Turbine head will not spin if the airflow in the machine is poor, as these are powered by suction. We would also recommend to check over the machine entirely for blockages by following the link below:

Our helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm and over the weekend from 8:30am - 4pm.

Is this model Dyson vacuum cleaner good for picking up hair and powder?

3 answers
Pierre
Pierre

It has no trouble picking up human hair. However, I have tried Arctic Fox and Canadian Muskox, but they just get clogged. It has no trouble picking up my hair, because, damn it, my hair fell out ten years ago and never came back. So, human hair is fine. Having said that, I wouldn't like to be vacuuming the place after say, Xie Qiuping has visited. I just don't think the Dyson could handle that. Plus, it would get caught up in that useless non-rolling roller mechanism in the head unit and you'd just have to spend all day untangling it. I also don't use powder, to answer your second question, although my wife does, and it seems to suck up powder without a sneeze.

Anita
Anita

Thank you very much for answering my questions. I am pleased that my Dyson should be able to cope with sucking up normal human hair.
Have a good day.

Dyson
Dyson Team ..Dyson

Hi Anita,

Thank you for your question.

Our DC37c model comes standard with a Dual Mode floor tool, which you can adjust for use on both carpets and hard flooring. For improved performance on carpets, we have also designed a Turbine head which is compatible with this model. A Turbine head contains a rotating brush bar component which separates carpet fibres as it spins, providing better pick up in the depth of the carpet. A Turbine head would be a better tool for hair pick up, and it will require general brush bar maintenance from time to time.

We do not recommend to use any Dyson vacuum for the collection of carpet cleaning products, renovation dust, liquid, or fine powders such as flour.

We hope this satisfactorily answers your question, but please don't hesitate to reach out to our helpline on 1800 239 766 if you require any further assistance choosing a machine. Our helpline is open Monday to Friday 8am - 6pm and over the weekend from 8:30am - 4pm

We do indeed have a floor tool compatible with your DC37c barrel vacuum which boasts a rotating brush bar. A Turbine head can be purchased online via our website for the price of $129.00AUD. There is no charge for shipping within Australia and the part would arrive within 5-7 business days via Australia post.

The DC37C Multi-floor will come with a Musclehead tool which adjusts automatically between carpets and hard floors.
