The Wife Loves It
I'm so glad we upgraded to the XV last November. Now with 18,500km on the clock, we've had no complaints, no rattles, no oil consumption drama's. that I've read about here. Not a thing wrong. 3 trips to Sydney from Brisbane fully loaded, the car performs really well on the highway. Zupps were great too and let us take the car on an extended test drive before we bought it.. The extra height seating positon over her 2010 Impreza was the selling point.. Better fuel economy with the 6 speed manual and stop go technology even though its a heavier ca...Read more
r, Our 5th Subaru and 7th in the family. Haven't had a dud one yet. Still have an old 1998 Impreza as a family spare car that everyone uses when they need it. Can't wait for the delivery of my new diesel Outback in July.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Very poor quality
I had seat repaired 6 times in less than 3 years, front doors fill with water when it rains, engine out for two days for oil leaks, GPS changed, squeaks and rattles Wrote to Subaru and even went to fair trade, Subaru Customer care is very poor, they never replied to my letter even after Sales manager confirmed and shown me email of the fact he passed my letter on. The build quality is poor very poor and I would recommend if you was to purchase a Subaru to stay away from the XV.. Bull buckle (The dealer was also unhappy with Subaru)

Great SUV Subaru XV 2.01S CVT
My husband and I bought this car new in March 2013 and love it. It is very easy to drive. It hugs the road and corners very well. It has very good all round vision and also comes with a very accurate reversing camera. It has blue-tooth connectivity which allows me to just push a button on the steering wheel if my phone rings and speak hands free. I can ask it to call people which I find very convenient.
It comes with 7 air bags and sat nav which is not live, but it gets you to the right destination. The seats are leather and are very comfor...Read more
table with good back support. They can also be warmed. The fuel consumption is approx 700km with mostly city but some country driving. We have so far had no problems with this car and are not expecting any. First service was $340 at our local Subaru dealership. The only downside is the size of the boot which I don't care about but which was initially an issue for my husband. Our other car a Mazda 6 has a huge boot so he was comparing cars. We just fold down the back seats if lengthy items need to be carted. We bought the Venetian Red and paid extra for paint protection. We both think this car looks great Great car, drives well and looks good.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Best SUV out!
Bought myself a new car for my birthday and i must say, my choice was the right one!
Drives like a dream, i get close to 700km per tank which is about 200-250 kms ( i drive suburban/hwy on my commute to work which is about 70 km round trip so i get about 10 days of travelling per fuel tank fill) more than my old car so pretty impressive.
It has everything in it that your would have to pay extra for in another model (ie reverse camera, handsfree in steering wheel, bluetooth etc) (but its all inclusive). The reverse camera is good, stereo...Read more
is loud and good quality. The graphics are clear and the engine has enough power for its size and weight, and responds well to putting your foot down. The usability of the controls is simple and the start stop engine is so effortless, you barely notice it. Oh, and the heater/air con heats and cools the car so quickly! Another thing that is good is that the steering is light so you don't feel like your turning a semi trailer around a corner, and the car is so roomy but doesn't feel like a truck. I can reverse park it easier that my old focus and find it fits just as easy in small CBD parking spots/lots. And it looks sexy!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Thankfully it was a courtesy car
Thank God it was a rental...
I was given the Subaru XV as a loan car while my Kia Optima Platinum was being serviced. It was a 2014 2.0i L with the CVT transmission.
Interior space was ok, but the boot wasn't really that much larger than an ordinary hatchback.
During my time with the car I found it easy to maneuver around town, and through car parks, I also found it to be reasonably comfortable on the freeway soaking up many bumps. All in all this car is ok to drive. But I wouldn't call it rewarding.
It seems like a lot of owners ...Read more
complain about excessive oil usage in this car, I can't comment on this as I don't own the car. Having said that, I found the car did run a bit rough, especially on start up. Additionally I was not a fan of CVT gearbox fitted to my loan car. It was very inconsistent and tended to hover around 3,500rpm for prolonged periods of time before deciding to shift up a ratio. When driving in manual mode, shifting up often caused the car to jolt forward. My mate has a current Impreza and his car also suffers from this issue. The car is equipped with automatic engine start stop technology. While this is a good feature to save fuel, they system only activates if you press the break pedal very hard while stopped, if you release the pressure on the pedal even just slightly the car restarts.Similar opinion? I got one
Well I wasn't sure at first but know i am certain that we made the right choice in this small SUV market. It looks good, it goes good (sure its not a rocket but hey they will even tell you that), its got all the stuff you need right down to sat nav and color reversing camera. The car drives smoothly, no rattles, feels like a car and not a truck, has excellent handling. It is very easy to see out of on all corners. economy is close to what the manufacturer says but if you lead foot it then things go down hill fast in this category ( but what ca...Read more
r does not?). Service to date and regular calls to check if all ok by the dealer has also been first rate. The car appears to not be using any excessive oil to date as per some owners reports. All in all i am very happy with the car and expect to have it for some time on its current merits which i cannot fault for the price. Good all round package that actually looks good in an otherwise very bland SUV market. Needs 98 octane to get the best economy results. Seats could/should be more supportive.Similar opinion? Exactly what I expected when I Bought it!
Test drove pretty much every small to medium SUV on the market before buying a new XV 2.0i-S in Sep 2012. The reason for purchase was equipment level (has every option) available as standard, great deal ( $38k drive away with tow bar and mats) and most importantly I loved how it felt on the road. After two years I haven't been disappointed and a few things have really surprised me! Firstly, after been really disappointed with fuel economy in the past with my 1994 Subaru Liberty Wagon (12L/100km at best), my XV is surprisingly frugal! Not unusua...Read more
l to get 6.2L/100km on a trip and around 8.0L/100km around town. Also surprisingly capable off road within reason, ground clearance is really good, traction is great and will run rings around most big 4 wheel drives in soft sand. Obviously leave heavily rutted tracks and water crossings to deeply treaded, snorkel equipped ladder framed 4 wheel drives. I've read lots of reviews that note significant problems with oil consumption, however I have had no issues and to be quite frank I've had absolutely no problems at all in 2 1/2 years. I've noted a few complaints about performance and boot space, quite surprising noting that I would expect that everyone would have looked at an XV closely and taken one for a good test drive before buying one. My view... yep... it's no power machine, however on our highly regulated roads it's more than adequate 99.5% of the time. Yes the rear hatch isn't big (knew that when I bought it), but as empty nesters, with the rear seats folded down, if needed there is plenty of room and have no problems throwing a couple of mountain bikes. At the end of the day I bought exactly what I paid for, what I expected, plus a bonus with outstanding fuel economy and great reliability :-)Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Brilliant Car
Purchased the 2.0i-S model for my wife - replacing a Volvo V60 Wagon. This was our 4th Subaru and we have never had a moment's problem with any of them. Since we bought our XV we have also purchased a 2015 Subaru Outback 3.6R so we are an all-Subaru family now.
We started out looking at the Mazda 3 (having owned a previous model - but I could not get comfortable in the car), Mazda CX-3, VW Golf (my wife values reliability above all else and the Golf has a lingering poor reliability record), and the Subaru Impreza. As soon as she saw the XV she...Read more
was sold. All the virtues of the Impreza but with a funkier look and easier to enter/exit due to its higher stance. We ordered the car and then I started reading about some owners having trouble with oil consumption - both here and in the US. Started worrying! Now, after 12 months of absolutely trouble-free ownership, we have no regrets. THE CAR HAS USED NO OIL. Why are some people having oil consumption problems and the majority have not? Have these troublesome vehicles been run in according to the manufacturer's instructions? Our XV is great to drive, performs well for its class, is comfortable even for someone my size (191cm) and has been utterly reliable.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
XV Excessive Oil Consumption
I purchased my XV new at the beginning of 2013. Within the first 4 months the oil light came on. I took it back to the dealer for its first service and was informed this was normal for this engine, some garble regarding the oil sensor.
It sounded like a rehearsed answer, so I refused to take it back to Subaru to service. I now use Auto Masters, who have informed me that the oil consumption is excessive. Up to now I have added an extra 4 liters of oil in total to this vehicle, 1 liter between each service, and when the oil light came on aga...Read more

Excessive oil consumption
A new xv. Car used excessive oil. To carry out an oil test the dealer changed the oil to a thicker and not manufacturer recommended oil. Denies this makes the test invalid. Off to consumer affairs for help. Don't give them time as they will give you a run around and not even conduct a true oil consumption test. Also wont allow anyone but themselves to do the test.

Honest, reliable car though a tad underpowered
I purchased my Subaru XV brand new. It is a six speed manual version.
I kept an eye on the oil usage right from the start having read a number of comments about it. On my car this doesn't seem to be a problem. Likewise with petrol consumption, I get 7.5L - 8.5L commuting around town which is not bad for a car this size, engine capacity and weight.
The boot is very shallow but it's something you can easily see before you buy so if you often carry a lot of gear you might have to look elsewhere.
The "fuel saving" engine stop feature is a...Read more
nnoying and hardly saves any fuel so I just disable it the moment I get into the car now. The engine feels like it's underpowered for the car's weight, especially down low. You get used to it after a while, but it really could use a bit more power through the low rpm range.1 comment

Subaru XV Oil Consumption
I bought my Xv in July 13. Has been using oil since the beginning. I just keep getting the same response from the dealer. They just use alot of oil at the start. I now have 32000ks. Im sure they do as when I requested they emailed the correspondence they had regarding my car with Subaru they would not send it thru. Xv oil consumption
2012 xv using excessive oil,ran out of oil once,on third oil consumption test. The first test Subaru over filled by 7mm on dipstick,so how trustworthy are they when they measure oil burn, 1st test used 800ml over 3000km,2nd test 650 ml over 3000km, local dealer said its normal to burn 1litre per 2000km, been dealing with this for 9 months, it's a joke, time to start making people accountable, very dissappointed with response, they also want to look hard at their slogan all for the driver,

Worst car I have had the pleasure to own
This car uses oil, like you would not believe, we dont even make it to the next service.
Apparently in the USA there is a law suit over it!!
New Car Buyers be warned!!!
Subaru will not take responsibility and keep saying in will stop at 1000, then 10,000, then 25,000 we are up to 30,000 and it is still using oil!!!

XV-L owner 2014
Love the car and its features BUT a steering fault has appeared. Juddering/shuddering felt through steering wheel and heard. Can be a light judder or severe depending. Low speed turns, up hill, car park turns.
Research shows some XV's do this but others don't. We have two in the family, both 2014's. One does one doesn't.
Dealer service dept. says "characteristic of the model." Not happy Jan. Will try another service dept. One owner (NSW) had power steering module replaced- end of problem?

Horizontally Opposed Piston Engine in a SUV
I have just test driven a Subaru XV Sports 2014. During an emergency braking exercise I have noticed that the whole Engines shakes and I felt like something is going to fall apart.
I wonder if that is due to the centre of gravity being higher in a SUV than a Sports car where similar type of Horizontally Opposed Piston Engines are used by some manufacturer.

Best car ever owned
Drives like a dream, and excellent handling for the size of vehicle. We traded in a lemon of a Mazda 2 for it, and have never regretted it. The fuel usage is around the same, for a much bigger car. The GPS stops itself from being set when the car is moving - even with a passenger. I understand the safety feature, but it should work with a passenger in the front.
AWD, Reliable, comfortable, reversing camera. Suprisingly we like the sunroof, where we thought it was just a gimic.

Subaru XV and maintenance costs
Purchased my XV in 2012 and I can only say that I am really happy with it. This vehicle is my third Subaru but my first SUV. In comparison to my sporty Impreza, I found it very stiff in the chassis but that is to be expected I guess. The XV has good fuel economy and to date has been problem free.
However, for anyone thinking of buying a Subaru, whilst I absolutely love Subarus, I have to warn you that the service costs and parts charges for these vehicles - and this includes all fluids - is absolutely off the planet and totally unrealist...Read more

My 2012 Subaru XV is tomorrow getting it’s 3rd engine in less than 50,000km. I brought the car new and have nothing but issues - never again. I guess my question here is has anyone else had as much drama??

why has it been replaced each time?
Mine had an oil leak under warranty needing to remove the engine to resell the cam carriers. After that it had a ticking noise that was found to be a bent camshaft. Engine out again and new camshaft installed. Now running well at 80,000 kms
We bought our 2012 Subaru XV in March 2015. It ran like a charm, clocking up 110,000 ks without a hitch until four weeks ago when it shuddered, lost power intermittently and flashed about four different messages reporting engine trouble. We've been waiting all this time for the problem to be diagnosed, and now onto our third hire car at great cost. We bought Subaru on the expectation of reliability and thought we were winning the game. Nooooot sooo. We are waiting for some satisfactory answers Subaru!

Hi
We have a dilemma with our 2012 Manual Subaru XV which threw up all warning lights one evening driving home. Subaru dealer told us we needed a new battery, quoted us 750 including diagnostics test, we had it replaced for half price with a local mechanic. Drove away, and discovered all the warning lights on dashboard again. Second diagnostic test at Subaru dealer (more money:( and now we are told a problem with ABS system which cost 6500 to fix. This knocked me off my feet. Has anyone spent such enormous amounts on this problem, or this car, in one hit? Very angry at this point as I feel there is no guarantee that this may be all that is wrong with the car.

Bought a used 2012 XV and days after buying it, it did this exactly. Turns out it just needed a new o2 sensor.
