Truly great connical burr grinder
Bought one of these 5 years ago it worked every day for 5 years without a real problem had to add spacers when required. Decided to get a new one when it no longer grinded fine enough. So happy I went and bought another one. The other worked many times a day every day for 5 years. Your coffee machine is only as good as the grinder you use.
Great grinder, good fine grind.
If u don't watch what your doing, it can get a little messy to clean up.

Never missed a beat.
Had this for six years, and don't clean it as much as I should, but it has never missed a beat, other than a new shim washer or two due to constant regular use. Things that grind wear slightly.
It has lasted two expresso machines and still can't fault it!!
Love it !!!!
Reliable, easy to clean, easy to adjust
The auto button and group head support could be a bit closer to the dispensing nozzle, it can be a bit messy...

Sunbeam EM0440 coffee grinder
The Sunbeam EM0440 is a conical burr grinder supplied with the Sunbeam Café Series espresso machine.
There have been significant problems with the operation of the grinder.
• The bean hopper is almost impossible to remove without a degree of force
• The grinder vibrates when grinding and does not remain on calibration
• When a finer coffee grind is required the machine is unable to produce a consistent flow of ground coffee; adjustments have to be made whilst operating the grinder at the same time
• Initially the grinder had to be operate...Read more

Very good untill it started grinding very coarse
I have read other review that someone found how to fix my problem. I love my coffee in the morning but a few months ago my grinder started to grind very coarse even though it was on the lowest setting for fine espresso. so when I make the coffee the water always comes through my machine very fast and no crema on it at all. I called sunbeam and they told me something about how to fix the burr but I'm not so technical and I didn't fancy putting a screwdriver in the machine to tighten it up as it's very sharp in there. Anyway at least I know there...Read more
is a solution now after reading it here. I have found that if you press down on the top while it is grinding that the coffee comes out a lot more fine like it's supposed to but it can make your arms ache a little bit. Normally I found that setting number 5 or 6 worked the best for my espresso and made a nice crema depending on how fresh was the coffee bean.2 comments

Can't get the grinder to spit out any ground coffee. How to fix that!
UPDATE:
After digging around the net a little more, we came across instructions for "how to add shims" to this grinder's gubbins. Shims, it turns out, are very thin washers used as spacers. My technically-minded husband, who knew what a shim was, figured that if you could add them you could also remove them, so that's what he did, using the very useful home-made illustrated guide for adding them mentioned above. Lo and behold, we now have coffee! Hubby came to the conclusion that everything was just too tightly locked down, so removing the ...Read more

disappointing
Bought my EMO480 in Feb last year and it worked well, if a bit messily, for 18 months- then it just died - no sound at all from the motor. I paid $170 for it and made less than 1 cup per day so this was certainly not good value for money. I'm guessing the cost of repairs will make it not worth fixing.
It worked well until it didn't.
Working life too short for the price

Great once you know how to use it
Got the grinder via redemption after purchasing an Em7000 coffee machine. Worked brilliantly for one week then started grinding the coffee very coarse. The wonderful [name removed] from Sunbeam told me exactly how to fix it. She proactively found my contact details after I posted a bad comment on their Facebook page. That's the sort of customer service that every company needs.
Looks good

Nice reliable grind, but...
I've been using this grinder for a few years now, generally espresso grind (setting 6-8) at least once a day using fresh local coffee beans. It produces a good reliable grind, but it is painful to clean especially now the alignment arrows on the burrs have long since worn off and reassembly is a case of trial and error (tip: a spot of liquid paper on the outside of the removable burr helps to get it right). I occasionally run a cup of rice through the grinder to help clean the build up of oils from inside the grinder which would otherwise req...Read more
uire removal of screws and the luck of the gods to clean. It is also very messy, it tends to spray the grinds out of the nozzle diagonally at times making it near on impossible to use the auto switch let alone the group handle locator. Fantastic coffee grinder
Had it now for about 5years and love it. It produces the best and most consistent grind you could ask for. It is very well built beautifully easy to use and adjust from fine (almost powder if you want) to coarse. It is used a lot so always has coffee in it and doesn't appear to need cleaning while in constant use. A pleasure to find an appliance that works better than you expect.
Attractive and easy to use.
Not the easiest to reassemble after cleaning and if its not done properly you will only get a course grind. Also a bit noisy but I haven't found a coffee grinder that isn't.

Great machine
I bought this new from Harvey Norman after buying my EM6910 on ebay. Have found it great so far, grind settings producing promised results, and coffee tastes absolutely fantastic. I have been nailing the bean pressure on my machine every time i.e. getting the slow dripping followed by a caramel colour.
I have read on a few reviews about the mess this machine makes. I had that, then I realised I wasn't using it correctly i.e. the correct holder on the machine. Use the wrong one and it does go everywhere.
Does as promised if used correctly. Instructions are very clear

Terrible Grind
I have returned the grinder three times for a replacement as the grind is too coarse even on the finest setting. One of the machines worked ok for a while before failing to grind fine enough, the other two would not adjust fine enough from the start. Because I bought the grinder as a package with the Sunbeam espresso machine (which has been excellent), I cannot get a refund. Don't buy the grinder.
Grinds too coarsely even on the finest setting.

works great...but
On the good side, this machine is well built and solid. The adjustable grind settings are good for the variation of coffee making styles. The bean container holds a good quantity of beans so there's fewer refills. Once you've got the grind on the right setting the grind is consistent. The pulling apart, cleaning and correct re-connection of the unit can be fiddly, which can result (if not done right) in only course grinds being produced. This is our second unit of this model (first one packed it in after many years use) and the same problem...Read more
s plagues this model as well. Despite having an attachment to 'feed' the grind into the container, invariably a fair amount of grind ends up on the bench-top for a couple of reasons, firstly the grind is shot into the container with a fair amount of force, as there's no sealing lid on the container around the grind chute (when in use) grind tends to fly out, secondly a static charge seems to be created during the grind process compounding the problem. Note to Sunbeam - Change the container lid design to seal around the grind chute! Solid construction, reasonable value for money, adjustable settings, Some basic design flaws make this a messy unit to useSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great Coffee Grinder
I recently purchased the Sunbeam EM6910 Cafe Series Coffee Machine and was smart enough to go the whole package and purchased the EM 0480 Conical Burr Grinder. Sooo glad I did. Grinds beans perfectly. Have had no experience before so was a little nervous about how I would go producing my own coffee at home after using a pod machine for so long. Great little grinder. Highly recommend it.
Easy to use. Sits nicely on the bench next to my new coffee machine
Can't think of any.

Sunbeam Cafe Series Coffee Grinder
I thought buying pre-ground coffee was ok until I found out it keeps fresh for nine days and goes off after a month. A grinder was the answer taking price and performance into consideration, I went for the sunbeam. It has multiple settings from coarse to fine. Has a pulsing button if only filling the group for one cup, constant on for grinding larger amounts. The hopper holds more than enough coffee beans.
It's no louder than many home use grinders and half the price of a Rancilio Rocky grinder. Also learning that the weather can affect the gr...Read more

Works well now
Could not get any crema until Sunbeam help-desk (Phone 1800 025 059) took me through resetting the conical burr grinder after cleaning. Simple and easy and resulted in excellent espresso.
I was ready to throw my EM6910 into a back corner of the shed thinking it was the problem.
The setting we use is #6 but will continue to try others.
Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to re-calibrate after cleaning
Messy - sprays coffee all over when loading the group head basket direct. Answer - use a container.

Does not grind properly - requires calibration!
This machine seems to destroy the beans rather than grind them. As several reviewers have already said, the grind is WAY too coarse to use. Changing the grind settings makes absolutely no difference. I phoned the customer service line and requested some spacers and calibration instructions (after reading what other reviewers had done). The rep on the phone suggested that I just take it back to the store and exchange for another machine, but I explained to him that many other people had the same problem, so a new grinder may be no different! Don't waste your time and money!!
Worst kitchen appliance I have ever purchased! Got one, didn't work. Replaced it... didn't work. The coffee grind comes out way to coarse to be able to use. There was barely any notable difference between the finest setting and the most coarse setting (it all came out a consistency close to sand). As well as the grind being terrible the little plastic gates on the bean hopper kept getting stuck inside the machine and were really difficult to get out. After wasting $200 on this item I thankfully finally managed to get a refund on this product. W...Read more

Grinds perfectly for our coffee machine
This grinder has an adjustable grind setting and grinds a good, even size grind which makes for a coffee with a reasonable crema when on the finest setting. It has a good sized hopper and the versatility of grinding directly into the group head of the machine or into a storage container with the option of an automatic switch. The downside of this machine in my opinion is that it is very messy as it shoots ground coffee beyond the edges of the receptacle, over the machine and around the bench top, compared to grinders which dispense into a clos...Read more

I can’t be sure what is the cause of your problem but I had some issues with my grinder cutting out and just cleaned, refitted the coffee basket and it worked. Please check if your PowerPoint is working by trying a working appliance if so follow the manuals cleaning instructions make sure when refitting the basket it has been firmly replaced. You can also ring Sunbeam they have staff who can give advice and access their technical database. Best of luck

dgm308asked
For those getting too coarse a grind, it is poor quality control. To adjust the grinder for a finer grind beyond what you are getting spacers need to be added under the lower burr. These spacers cost about $3 each on ebay, but should really be in the box with grinder along with the instructions to remove the burrs. It is quite easy to do, but you shouldn't have to and I have read where people dismantle more than what is needed and never get it back together. As a matter of good customer service Sunbeam should send everyone who owns their grinders free spacers. They will email you the instructions if you call them, but they should do more. You may have to mention the spacers etc or they may not want to bring it up as it shows they know your grinder is not fit for the purpose as supplied.
If you do it just add one spacer more than what is there and start on coarse grind setting and move to a finer setting the first time you use it. If not fine enough add another spacer and repeat. (Max 4 spacers)
This adjustment is to counter burr wear and adjustment should be built into the machine external settings.
