Good entry level grinder
Have used this for 12 months and it's a basic, reliable grinder. Its probably not something you want to be churning high volumes through but I've been using it to grind a single dose at a time and have not had any problems. It grinds to a decent consistency according to what you specify and it will come out, albeit a little messily, into your group handle.
I have noticed that some beans do get a little bit sticky inside the unit and you'll get clumps come out, instead of consistent grounds but it's only been with one specific bean so far.
For the price point though, it's hard to complain much about it. It's a good little unit, just not a great one.

Bought a faulty product
I bought this grinder very recently. I made the unusual mistake of not reading product reviews or doing my homework before buying this product (whoops). I got it home and the very first grind was faulty, the grind was very coarse. I called support and they said it is a common problem. I am returning the product today and am seeking a full refund which I will use to buy a superior product.

Worked fine for about 13 months then won't feed beans onto grinder
I am totally fed up with Sunbeam products. The Sunbeam Conical Burr EM0480 grinder is fine in theory but just keeps failing to grind...why, beans do not fall into the burr section from the hopper. Have taken it apart, cleaned the burrs, put back...no difference. My old Kenwood does a better grind and allows me to get finer results...and never fails. I know there are people who say they have never had a problem with the EM0480, but a short search on google shows plenty who do.

Inexpensive & has a few problems
I decided to go for this model after using a friends.
My Delonghi grinder broke today. It never ground as fine as this model.
Pros:
The drop tray is good.
Container seals if you grind too much.
Easy to dismantle grinder mechanism to clean.
Easy to grind coffee beans by pushing the collecting container into the body of the unit.
Sometimes it is easily pushed when not in use and coffee comes out. But not too much of a problem.
Inexpensive.
Static makes tipping the coffee out of the holder messy as it won't empty without constant tapping on a hard surface.

Great Entry Level Grinder
As a user of a manual burr grinder it was a pleasure to use the Sunbeam. It does the job it is built, with all the different types of grinds. Don't expect a powerful machine. If you are some one who will grinder their coffee more than once a day then consider the next one in the series.

Great machine, very reliable.
I've had my EM0480 grinder for about 8 years. I've never had a problem with it. I make 3 - 4 coffee a day on average (I'm a caffeine addict!). I roast my own coffee from green beans.
It's been producing excellent pours, allowing for tests on each new batch of beans (the grind will vary depending on humidity, roast and water content - yes, beans have varying water content). No problems adjusting the grind which I had set at about 10 for my espresso machine. (If you want tips on making great coffee, Google it. There's plenty of vids showing how...Read more

Great Grinder for Price
I am somewhat surprised by the comments. We bought ours 5 months ago and have no problem. Yes, a bit messy. My friend has a professional one paid over $500. It does the same - messy. Any better not really. We clean ours every 3-4 weeks as instructed. Maybe the people that are having problems are not cleaning regularly as I would imagine there would be a build up. No problem with adjustments. Very happy with the product and would recommend.

Great Grinder for the money
I use this grinder daily and have found it to be reliable and good value for money. I have had my grinder for 3 years and it's still running well. I do find I have to adjust the grind but I think that has to do with the freshness of the beans and sometimes even the humidity

Ok but definitely not great !
I have bought two of these now. First one had a problem where I had to change out washers in the grinder to adjust the grind setting. I should have taken it back but was led through the process by Sunbeam tech just after I bought it. I had a lot of trouble with consistency of grind and the machine often blocked which eventually caused the machine to fail due to breaking of some internal plastic parts. The same day my son kicked a ball in the house and knocked the coffee grinder off the bench, breaking it, so I couldn’t return it.

OK but static is a huge problem
I have had this for a couple of years now. I have tried others while this was put away as a back up and still haven't found an economy priced grinder that does a better job. The main problems are that this model retains a lot of grounds and needs to be tapped on the counter after each use to get them out. It also has a really bad static problem, spreading grounds all over the prep area.

Great grinder for a great price!
This grinder is at the bottom end of the price scale but it does an excellent job of grinding coffee. It's easy to use and easy to clean. I would recommend this product to anyone that wants consistently ground coffee. It's a sturdily built quality device and I'm very happy with it.

Not bad & not great
Bang for buck I expected a little more from this unit. It does an OK job of the grind however one of the negatives is the mess it makes. I am continually cleaning up the mess it makes. Even with the small extender I expected a cleaner finish.
I was expecting much more from this unit.

Ok value for money, but very variable at grinding
This is my first coffee grinder and is ok and seems to grind ok too, but the grind is very variable. The rotational grind setting adjuster could do with a locking mechanism as it moves very easily and a few times I have ground expensive coffee and found that the grind setting has moved (operator care/error yes maybe but a locking mech would be handy). I have also found that with the same brand of quality beans that the grind varies, even on the same setting. For what it costs it represents reasonable value but I wish I had paid more ($480) to get a better quality grinder.
Ok no dramas, you get what you pay for, does the job fine but not brilliantly.

Just Rubbish
Always had trouble with the quality of the grid. It seemed to grind course and when adjusted it didn't seem to maintain the grind consistency very well. Had to place washers in the burr mechanism to achieve a fine grind, but I seem to have worn the thing out totally now.
Waste of money and better off using this as a deposit on something good like a Macap flat burr grinder which I am off to buy soon.

Bad material choice in design
The "designers" of this device have never heard of static electricity. If the grind is set to espresso the coffee will stick inside due to static and not dispense! If you tilt the machine 45 degrees forward and rattle it on bench a perfect grind will emerge which then covers the outside of the machine, occasionally dropping off into container.
I'm using it until my constant banging and rattling destroys it (hopefully soon).

Adjusting grind setting range
I have the same problem with my grinder from NEW. Fine (espresso) grind was only achievable on 'Course' 21 setting. For some unknown reason after 6 months non-use this same setting now produced clogged grind - no grind being dispensed through spout. Eventually worked out the grind was too fine to expel. Strange snce I was using same brand fresh beans as before. Adjusting grind setting to coursest (25) on scale was not enough to expel grinds. Further investigation of mechanics showed I could adjust courser to 'off the scale' to get a grind that ...Read more
would expel, but no idea what the setting was. Following your post, I set about removing all four shims from underneith the bottom Burr. I now get a fine grind on 'Medium' 16 setting but can't go below 13 before clogging (burrs too close together). Therefore I assume I could not get a course enough grind for plunger or drip filter. Has anyone got a solution to set the burr- gap to 'touching' on the 'Fine' 0 setting to get maximum range of settings across the range of dial settings. I would assume the options are: 1. Lower the mount base of the bottom burr 2. reduce the thickness of the bottom burr housing (machine off 2-3 shim thickness from base) 3. Raise seat set height of top burr by 2-3 shim thickness. As there appears to be a large variability between indiividual machines for this grinder's 'factory setting' burr-gap, and wear will increase this gap, any solution would need to be variable by small increments.Similar opinion? Stopped dead.
Mine also ran daily (6 shots) for roughly two years then stopped dead. It's apart on the kitchen bench now and the power cord is in good order (tested with a multimeter). The main switch and the dead man switch at the top are both OK. So probably not worth repairing. If it failed after 5 years I wouldn't be as disappointed.
Whilst it was working it was perfect for our french press but barely satisfactory for our espresso press.

I bought this grinder with an espresso machine, it turns out the grinder doesn't grind the coffee fine at all, sometimes it produces very course and sometimes just a little fine.
so disappointing..!!

I can’t be sure what is the cause of your problem but I had some issues with my grinder cutting out and just cleaned, refitted the coffee basket and it worked. Please check if your PowerPoint is working by trying a working appliance if so follow the manuals cleaning instructions make sure when refitting the basket it has been firmly replaced. You can also ring Sunbeam they have staff who can give advice and access their technical database. Best of luck

For those getting too coarse a grind, it is poor quality control. To adjust the grinder for a finer grind beyond what you are getting spacers need to be added under the lower burr. These spacers cost about $3 each on ebay, but should really be in the box with grinder along with the instructions to remove the burrs. It is quite easy to do, but you shouldn't have to and I have read where people dismantle more than what is needed and never get it back together. As a matter of good customer service Sunbeam should send everyone who owns their grinders free spacers. They will email you the instructions if you call them, but they should do more. You may have to mention the spacers etc or they may not want to bring it up as it shows they know your grinder is not fit for the purpose as supplied.
If you do it just add one spacer more than what is there and start on coarse grind setting and move to a finer setting the first time you use it. If not fine enough add another spacer and repeat. (Max 4 spacers)
This adjustment is to counter burr wear and adjustment should be built into the machine external settings.
