Never Let Me Down and Holds Plenty of Beans!
Love Sunbeam, and love the Sunbeam cafe series coffee grinder. We've had it for a few years now and have not had a single issue with it yet. It's reliable, efficient and does a super fine grind which we need for our espresso machine. It holds plenty of beans, which is great because I hate having to fill it up all the time.

It's a bit messy; coffee grounds tend to go everywhere...but I can't really think of a grinder that doesn't do this at least a little bit. Now that I'm used to it, it doesn't bother me.

Poorly Designed & Prone to Jamming
We bought a Sunbeam Cafe Series thermoblock espresso machine and thought we would by a matching grinder. What a mistake! We bought our grinder at Harvey Norman's - almost from the start we encountered a problem with the machine jamming with ground coffee. Long story short we ended up being given three replacement machines and each one had the same problem. We literally had to clean the grinds out of the shute after every third cup or so. Part way through we were supplied with a rubber spout attachment that sticks over the "chute" that the grind...Read more
s emerge from. This gave slight respite but the machine would still jam. In the end we gave up and bought a slightly lower spec Sunbeam grinder and have had no problems. I would not recommend Cafe Series grinder - from our experience it is a poorly designed grinder that is prone to jamming. The lower spec grinder does a better job for less cash outlay. It looked okay. Prone to jamming.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Absolutely brilliant. A perfect match to any good coffee machine
Once you learn how to grind your own coffee with this conical burr grinder, you will never look back. It is superb and worth every cent (even though mine was included as a gift with purchase with the Sunbeam Cafe series machine).
I like the ability to adjust the grind thickness to suit the machine and the coffee output you are looking for.
This is so durable. I have had mine for three years now and it is still working as though it was new.
Totally consistent and accurate grind with plenty of minute adjustability to get the coffee just right
I got one of the early ones without the guide shute to direct the coffee into the group head so I get a little bit of coffee overspill. Nothing that can't be cleaned up after use though

Best grinder under $300
I've researched it at coffeesnobs.com.au and other places - and this grinder is widely considered the best in it's price range....got it for $130 at a Sunbeam outlet store in Regent St, Alexandria in Sydney. Very happy. Easy to use, very adjustable. quite small...and looks good too. Easy to clean and comes with good instructions for cleaning etc.
Grinds very fine. very adjustable.

Good Grind
Always been impressed with Sunbeam quality, and this product is great for the price. Zero problems after a year of use. Would buy again. Suggest users who are breaking these machines are doing something wrong. If you don't feel like dropping $400 plus on a top end "coffee snobs" grinding machine, this one is a great option.
Robust, good performance.

oh for a spacer
I cannot remember how long I have had this grinder, 5yrs++ ?
It is still going strong doing 2-6+ daily coffees
From new I have had it wound up as fine as it will go which luckily has been a tantilising close to what I want :)
The grind is even
At one stage (out of warranty I guess) I discussed it with Sunbeam and they emailed the instructions on how to fit a washer
Of course I have never worked out which washer to buy and how to do that
Sending me a washer was a bit expensive I guess

Great grinder, but some calibration issues
Have had this for 2 - 3 months now and it gets lots of use..we are a family that would make 10 - 12 cups a day minimum! Had initial problems getting the right grind for our new Sunbeam cafe series esspresso maker. Manual suggests a grind setting between 12 - 16...I had to go down to 8 - 10 for some beans, and now find I have to grind around 3 - 5 for the correct texture. I wonder if this is a callibaration issue? Other than that..I'm happy with the grinder, but to wonder if at some stage soon I will be griding at 1 - 2, then nothing!!!! I do think this is something Sunbeam should look at, and I will talk with them.
Easy to use, easy to clean.
Grind setting issues, and its a messy process!!

Poor Quality Control, good machine
When I brought my grinder home I discovered it would not grind coffee fine enough for what I wanted. I was not happy. I rang Sunbeam and the lovely lady told me that it had not been calibrated properly and they would have to send me some spacers and instructions as to how to fit the spacers, hence calibrating it to what should have been done in the factory!
It was obvious that this was a major issue as she knew immediately what was happening and what to say. Why Sunbeam could not just attach/enclose an envelope with the spacers and instructi...Read more
ons with all their boxes I don't know???? I think Sunbeam should be kicked hard for this simple but painstaking problem as it does not show respect for their customers. Someone there should have the common decency to think ahead and least keep their customers happy, hence keep them coming back. The cost of supplying the spacers would be minimum as they are only washers!! Oh well, its all about money I guess!! Reliable, grinds evenly, not to loud, nice and sturdy, dual controls for use with a both a group handle or continuous grind and it has a 5 year warranty on the motor. The Grinder had not been calibrated and I was required to wait for the manufacturer to send the spacers in order to calibrate.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Another poorly made Sunbeam product.
We've had 3 of these throughout the past 3 years. Replacement after replacement. Parts break on this machine thankfully within the 1 year replacement term. With the price you have to pay you'd expect better quality than plastic parts. A positive is it does grind the coffee beautifully.
Grinds coffee perfectly.
Expensive for what it is. Plastic parts break continually.

Frankly I'm disappointed
I have mixed feelings about this grinder. I like the looks and mostly the grinder works ok. The more I use grinder the more I feel that the appearance of quality is only skin deep. After 12 months of use the motor is not as strong as before and it won't maintain the speed well enough to get an even grind. I now have to use a finer setting to get the same grind as before. I regret not spending more money on a European branded grinder.
Good looks, Convenient features make it a breeze to use.
Weak motor. Grind could be better.

Value for money the grinder is fantastic.
If you have $800 plus to spend then head for something like a mazzer.
If you don't this might just fit the bill.
Easy to switch from a fine grind for espresso to a more coarse grind for say french press.
Grind is excellent and seems very consistent.
The finish is great and helps produce a great coffee.

I have now been using this machine for over 6 months, so my review is based on a good period of assessment. I always considered Sunbeam to manufacture domestic appliances that vary between fair and good (based upon my partners experiences in the kitchen). I have owned a coffee shop and this grinder is very close to a true pro series machine. Well done Sunbeam!
The grind is very consistent. The method of adjusting the grind using a rotating ring is good. It is incredibly easy to use and to clean. You can set the grind on manual so it will fil...Read more

Great grinder
The cons look worse than they are, and are easily managed. Overall I am very happy with this after 6 months, and am happy to endorse it.
Wide range and consistency of the grind. The detachable hopper is very handy. Looks great.
The hopper gates can be left open and spill beans, and be difficult to reattach unless it is empty when removing. So mine only comes off when empty. Keep the instructions nearby when disassmbling for cleaning. Reassembling a gearbox is easy, this isn't unless you follow the instruction exactly, after reading three times. The chute holds grounds which fall out onto the benchtop. I now use a stainless dish permanently under the chute. Sunbeam could have supplied this as standard.

Excellent
Excellent grinder when operating correctly.Sunbeam's back up very sloppy, sent me parts for a self fix with no instructions.once i navigated past the left hand thread of the driven burr, was very easy to adjust
Sunbeam did contact me after reading my first review,i just told it like it was.
This product does it's job well for the price.Very easy to use with micro adjustments.
Did not come as a plug and play, had to adjust the grind texture myself with parts supplied by sunbeam, bad quality control.

Good
A bit noisy but then we are grinding beans.Would like a seal around the top container lid to keep coffee beans fresher and also the small cup supplied with the machine to save the fresh grounds.Require to be cleaned out every few weeks BUT warning, if the parts are not replaced correctly the grinds will be like pebbles even on the finest grind. Worth the 20 mins to clean. The supplied brush was not suitable so I purchased a very small artist paint brush. Better.
Many setting for grinding beans and able to adjust to a fine turkish powder if req.Easy to use.
Fresh grind tends to clock up in spout. Need to tap side of grinder occasionally.

Bad
I like this machine but having to use the double skin cup (the one for supermarket ground coffee) for my burr ground coffee sucks!
Looks great and easy to fill and collect the ground coffee.
Ever since new I have never been able to get my coffee ground fine enough! Even though it is on the finest setting it still comes out far to corse.

Terrible
whilst the other reviews suggest we have been very unlucky, having issues with all 3 machines is unacceptable and must reflect on the production quality
24 grind settings enable good variation in grind, relatively easy to clean
reliability has been unacceptable - we have had issues with 3 (original and 2 replacements) machines. with the first one the engine burnt out, the next 2 have both had issues with the grind settings - unable to grind anything except super fine coffee - too fine for my sunbeam espresso machine

Bit disappointed that the flimsy plastic burr shield broke the other day. I've had the grinder for only 5mths. I rang Sunbeam Australia who said it was not covered under the 12mth warranty as this was normal wear and tear...I have to purchase a new bean hopper ($27.95) from my local Sunbeam product store. I asked Sunbeam if I really needed the burr shield and they said yes..I'm still not sure what the purpose is anyway but I've ordered another bean hopper and that will be the last time. I don't know if the shield broke because I have to gently ...Read more

This is a good value and effective appliance, that also looks good. It has made a tremendous difference to my coffee enjoyment.
Consistently good grind. Coffee tastes great. Have only had it for 6 weeks so durability yet to be tested.
Can be fiddly to reassemble after cleaning

I really recommend this grinder, its easy to use and so convenient. Holds pleanty of coffee beans in hopper and protects them from the air.
Grinds quick when needed, even grind, huge grind size selection, can gind into container or directly into espresso filter.
A little messy, coffee ends up on counter.

I can’t be sure what is the cause of your problem but I had some issues with my grinder cutting out and just cleaned, refitted the coffee basket and it worked. Please check if your PowerPoint is working by trying a working appliance if so follow the manuals cleaning instructions make sure when refitting the basket it has been firmly replaced. You can also ring Sunbeam they have staff who can give advice and access their technical database. Best of luck

For those getting too coarse a grind, it is poor quality control. To adjust the grinder for a finer grind beyond what you are getting spacers need to be added under the lower burr. These spacers cost about $3 each on ebay, but should really be in the box with grinder along with the instructions to remove the burrs. It is quite easy to do, but you shouldn't have to and I have read where people dismantle more than what is needed and never get it back together. As a matter of good customer service Sunbeam should send everyone who owns their grinders free spacers. They will email you the instructions if you call them, but they should do more. You may have to mention the spacers etc or they may not want to bring it up as it shows they know your grinder is not fit for the purpose as supplied.
If you do it just add one spacer more than what is there and start on coarse grind setting and move to a finer setting the first time you use it. If not fine enough add another spacer and repeat. (Max 4 spacers)
This adjustment is to counter burr wear and adjustment should be built into the machine external settings.

the instructions have a typo - for most espresso machines the grind will have to be about 6. they have written the 12-16 setting twice.
