Love my mixmaster!!!
I bought my sunbeam cafe series 9200 in the hope of making my life a little easier. I own a small cafe and bake all the slices and cakes myself. This mixmaster meets all my expectations! It has timer with memory, pause button and broad variable speeds all while not making a heap of noise. Highly recommended for anyone that loves to bake!! Oh and if you want perfect pastry or meringue.. this will be your new best friend!

Rough and Noisy
This machine has a high pitch squeal from day one under no load. The bowl had metal swarf inside and is very roughly machined inside, glass would be safer. The scraper attachment bounces in and out of contact with the bowl. It looks the part but lacks quality materials and finish. I suppose it's better than a spoon!

Just what I was looking for
I purchased this unit specifically for mixing and it hasn't let me down. For what I want it is excellent. I love the pause button and that it tells me how long its been mixing. I also love the graduating of the speed increase and decrease. Like I saide it absolutely suits me for what I want and it's not overly loud.

A bit disappointed
While we were away looking at other appliances I purchased this machine.
I wish I had done some research. It's not strong enough to do what my previous mixmaster (sunbeam too) did easily on half the power.
It sounds like it is really struggling with a double batch of biscuit mixture (3 cups of flour)
It also seems to get flour everywhere even with the protective cover on over the top.
I like it when it is running well ( no double mixtures) and I like the timer but overall I am disappointed in this product. I think if I lived closer to where I purchased it I would return it.

No value for money
I bought this appliance to make cakes and bread. I was told it would do this job, but I have since returned it as it was no where near strong enough to manage even soft bread doughs and it didn't mix cakes properly either, leaving about a 1cm of mix around the sides of the bowl. It was also noisy and moved on the bench when mixing dough. It is quite heavy, so this surprised me. For the price tag of over $800 it was a total waste of money. I am disappointed as the old sunbeams were great.

Surprised that it didn't last
Had my first one for a few months until it kicked the bucket. The resistance and speed was gone! Like it was spinning in neutral?! I got a replacement under warranty. The replacement is really noisy and its mixing seems inconsistent, IRT its speed. I just want a refund this time. I'm not willing to try a third :( The best thing about the whole machine is the timer.

Wouldn't buy another Sunbeam
Bought this in December 2012. Within 9 months the whole thing holding the beaters had slipped out of its housing. Took it back to David Jones who (after an hour of discussion and waiting) gave me a new one.
The old Sunbeam Mixmasters (my mother and grandmother owned them) lasted 20 or 30 years and I would expect that it would not be unreasonable to expect at least 7 years out of the modern ones. But this replacement lasted just under two years. And when I rang Sunbeam they just said it was well out of warranty and just bad luck. ($90 of b...Read more
ad luck according to the repairman). But I think it is bad manufacturing - the first one fell apart in less than a year and the second one of the same model had a failed circuit board within 2 years after that. And don't even get me started on the very unreliable Sunbeam electric blanket.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Buy something else
Husband thought he was buying a quality piece of equipment. Which it was until the brass cog that turns the bowls chewed itself out. The machine now makes a god awful screeching noise and wont turn the bowls. Tried to get a replacement part from a Sunbeam repair agent but after only a few years this part is unavailable making the whole machine useless. Really annoying because the mixer part works well. Wont buy Sunbeam again if they're not going to support their products for longer than 12 months..

The Icing On The Cake!
Ive used many a MixMaster over the years (including KItchenAid) and this new Sunbeam MixMaster is AMAZING!
VERY user friendly and makes fabulous cakes and biscuits! I got mine in red and looks so sleek and sexy on the benchtop.
The Balanced head is so good. You can lift the head with a finger thats how easy it is.
I have kneaded doughs in this machine, and it hasn't bounced around or rock ed back and fourth, adjusting its power to suit the load.
I have spoken to sunbeam, and they say that some new attachments for the POWER DRIVE are on there way. WIll have to be on the look out for these attachments when released :D

NOT A GOOD PRODUCT!
I bought this 2 years ago in February, by November the motor started growling and stopped working. I followed the limits of dough/batter and speeds but that did not matter. I took it back to the store purchased and could only exchange it for the same kind. Less than 9 months later the new one started doing the same thing. If it had anything more than beating egg whites it makes terrible noises. PLUS the replacement mixer has a bad bowl, the bottom is dented which causes my mixing blade to scrape on the bottom and making the paint coating or w...Read more
hatever is on the blade to come off. I'm sure we like eating that!!! Because the product only had a one year warranty on the first machine I cannot take the second one back. But it's not like I would want to replace it with the same thing, it would just break again! This is a piece of junk and waste of money! I am quite disappointed because the Sunbeam company has been around for such a long time and I thought their product could be trusted!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Major manufacturing issues : product must be recalled
Received as gift in July 2014. Used perhaps no more than 10 times. During this time two things happened:-
1. The metal from die cast beater, chips off when in use. This is incredibly dangerous as metal chips are incorporated into the dough/mixture. You may not be aware that this has happened if you are mixing a dark coloured dough/mixture such as chocolate and/or Parisian browning.
2. Steel mixing bowl got stuck into base of unit and could not be removed. When trying to unlock the bowl the handle broke off the steel mixing bowl. This r...Read more

Its a dud!
Second machine in two weeks and it appears the second gearbox gone (presume this is the case due to noise).
We previously used a Bosch hand mixer with dough hooks that outperformed this failure.
The first machine failed after mixing two cake mixes and the second after attempting to make pizza dough on its first use. From all the other similar comments I think sunbeam should look at recalling the product due to major fault.
We have generally been pleased with other sunbeam appliances but now will have to consider another brand.

Used it once and it's gone
Bought it a few days ago, used to knead bread dough. Less than 15 minutes, overheated and motor stopped working. Not sure is out of luck or this is a poor quality product for $400:-(

Worst customer service ever
We bought our planetary on june 2012.
on the 6th of September we brought our machine to the local repair shop. Once they told us the problem was the gear box, we had to call the sunbean customer service to get the code of the piece and communicate it to the shop. Then it seams like if the wrong piece has been send. End of the story: we were suppose to receive a call from sunbean 3 weeks ago ( this is what the repair shop told us ), as we didn't hear anything we wrote an e-mail to sun bean... Still waiting, and still without planetary. Wrost customer service ever!

Died
Had my mixer for approximately 15 months and used 2-3 times a month. Set up one day to make a sponge for a special occasion and nothing happened. Power on, pause button off, turned dial and mixmaster never worked again. Considering the age, use and care given to appliance I would not waste my money again. 5 year guarantee on motor means nothing. Extremely disappointing - although now I don't cook special treats I am losing weight - so that is the only good point.
Heavy, Didn't seem to mix right to the bottom of the bowl, expensive considering how long it lasted.

Makes cooking faster and easier
After years of using a smaller mixer, I decided it was time for an upgrade. Initially I tried a friend's KitchenAid mixer but it seemed to struggle with doughs, so I decided to look for planetary mixers with 1000 watt motors. So after much research I decided on this unit, the price was good and it felt extremely solid.
After several months use I am extremely impressed. I was surprised as to how quickly mixtures and doughs came together. At first I didn't find the timer all that useful, but now I have learnt to use it to allow better mult...Read more
i-tasking when cooking. It also helps with doughs, since you can ensure that it is kneaded consistently every time. The scraper attachment is great for icing. The machine has numerous classy touches, like the cable storage and the way the timer gently fades off when unplugged. The bowl locks firmly into place and the whole unit feels sturdy. Overall, this makes cooking a lot quicker and easier. With my old mixer I had to pay attention, scraping down the sides of the bowl, where as with this one, it is just set and forget. The solid construction and large motor give me confidence that it will last years into the future. I couldn't be happier. Great for doughs, can set and forgetSimilar opinion? Was great while it worked - Terrible Customer Service
I'd bought a whole range of the Sunbeam Cafe series equipment. Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I've had nothing but dramas with all of it.
The Mixmaster worked great at first, but It always had a quirk, that sometimes you could turn the dial at the side and it just wouldn't mix. But more often than not you'd turn it off then on again, and it would start working so I suspected the bowl wasn't on tight enough or some kind of safety sensor .
I've probably had 5-10 hours of use out of it and it's stopped working all together. I called customer ...Read more
care and the guy there just didn't want to know. (This was a STARK contrast to LG who have always been super if ever I've had a problem with a TV or an applicance) They didn't run through any kind of fault finding with me or any questions. Just a lazy Friday afternoon attitude and when I said to him, come on mate you haven't even gone through any questions about this with me, he hung up. I was gobsmacked. This mixer was like $500, I'd have expected a bit more courtesy and help from someone like Sunbeam. Very disappointed. It was great while it worked Terrible support.6 comments

My baking has been revolutionised!
I received my red 9200R mixmaster for Xmas from the family and I'm thoroughly delighted. I haven't owned a mixmaster before as I relied on a little portable hand mixer. I love being able to set the speed and timer then work on other things while it is happily mixing away. Thrilled with the dough hook attachment, it works well with yeast dough and scones. (Though I have learnt that dough mixing is better on a low setting when you are mixing a large volume as the machine will wobble a bit if on a higher setting). It takes barely a minute to ...Read more
whip cream. The more I use it, the more I wonder why I never got one before! It's very easy to clean and bowl and attachments can be put in the top drawer of the dishwasher. Why is this dysfunctional not taken out of circulation. I had to return mine due to its inability to mix anything well. Absolutely useless for creaming butter and sugar. I am using my 20 year old Sunbeam mixer which is just perfect. Christmas cakes, pavlovas, sponges and cakes all beautifully mixed.

Hello Libby,
Thank you for your question...
All mixers no matter how expansive they are will at times need to have the bowl scrapped down with a spatula, especially when there is a small quantity of ingredients on the bowl.
All recipes that usually begin with butter and sugar will instruct you to scrap the bowl and mix again because most mixers will need that help at first and then will be fine when more ingredients are added.
This is not a satisfactory answer. My old Sunbeam creamed perfectly. I see many other comments re this problem in reviews of this mixer. I also have quite a few friends who have also returned their new mixers. Thank you for your reply but this model does need to improve.

Hi. I have a sunbeam cafe series mixer. The mixer attachment will not come off as it should. Has anyone experienced this and if so, how can I get it off.

No but I returned this mixer as it would not cream butter and sugar. The paddle did not scrape the sides of the bowl

Hello Kiwi,
To remove the particular mixing attachment, push it upwards, turn it anticlockwise, then pull it downwards (Figure 8; on page 8): https://www.sunbeam.com.au/Root/Specifications/InstructionBooklet/MX9200_ib_1.pdf
Hi Sunbeam
Thank you for responding. If it worked as above then I would not have a problem. The attachment does not want to move around to the point that allows me to pull it downwards. And yes I have done the usual push it up and turn anticlockwise. I love my sunbeam products but I must say this one is a bit frustrating as I also find it does not cream properly. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Ive had the Mixer for under a year and haven't used it very much but now its not working. The machine turns on, the LED light turns on but when I turn the dial to make it mix - nothing happens. The timer on the LED begins and then 4 seconds later the LED goes blank and then appears with this ( -- EO ) on the screen. Nothing i do will change this, i just have to unplug it. It seems like an Error code or maybe its referring to something but there is no information about what this could mean in the manual or anywhere online. Please help!
